Chapter 10
Path of the Arcstrider
Pearl had been sent to Mars. Cayde had been teaching her how to use her knives and make them electric. So she had already reached the level of a Blade Dancer.
Pearl got off her ship on Mars. "This… doesn't look very different from the Mars in my time." She said
Cayde radioed to Pearl: "The Traveler didn't change much of Mars. It has a better atmosphere now. There are some abandoned cities across Mars."
Amanda had given Pearl a Sparrow to use for this mission.
"So this is your last test. Head to the abandoned base up ahead." Cayde said
"Alright" Pearl said and summoned her sparrow.
"Watch out for Cabal and Hive. They're not friendly." Cayde advised.
Pearl approached a large building. "This place is huge" she said.
"You're at a Cabal base, and the Cabal aren't exactly small." Cayde said.
Pearl walked up to a huge door, like a garage door but bigger. Her Ghost began scanning a computer next to the door.
"I think something is in there. We'd better get back" the Ghost said. The big door began to open and there was something huge in it.
"It's a Cabal tank!" The Ghost said.
Pearl jumped to the right of the door to avoid fire. Suddenly there was a red laser pointing in front of her.
"Get back! The tank is going to fire" Her Ghost said. Pearl jumped away as far as she could. *Boooommm!* the tank fired.
"That was too close" she said. "I don't think my sniper rifle can break through that tank's armor."
"What if we destroyed the jets on it?" The Ghost asked. The tank didn't have wheels. It had 4 jets so it hovered not far above the ground.
"Good idea" Pearl said. Pearl got her sniper rifle ready.
"You'll have to be fast. That tank will try to fire at you again" the Ghost advised. Pearl then jumped out and aimed at the tank. *bang bang bang* She fired at one of the jets until it exploded.
"Look to the left!" The Ghost said
There were some Cabal headed towards them. *bang bang, bang bang* they fired at her. Pear ducked but then threw one of her electric knives at a Cabal. One of the Cabal roared and felled down.
"Got one!" The Ghost said.
Just then Pearl saw the laser from the tank pointing at her. She quickly jumped behind one of the Cabal. *boom!* the tank fired, but the Cabal's shield protected her.
The Cabal turned, and tried to hit her with its shield. *bang*! Without even using the scope on the sniper rifle, Pearl fired at the Cabal from point-blank range. As Halo 5 would say: "snapshot!"
"Those Cabal have big weapons. I wonder how Rose would handle them" Pearl said
"I have an idea" the Ghost said. "Take a Cabal's gun and use it against the tank".
Pearl picked up a gun from the last Cabal she killed. "It's a bit heavy, but I think I can get one shot." She said
"Alright, aim for the center of the tank. Right below the cannon." The Ghost said.
Pearl walked around the corner and aimed at the tank. But then a red laser pointed at her!
"Fire Pearl!" The Ghost exclaimed
*Boom* Pearl fired at the tank, damaging its cannon. *boom* The tank fired back but missed because the cannon hadn't been able to move far enough before it was shot.
"Are y'all still alive?" Cayde radioed in.
"Yep, we've just entered the base." Pearl said.
"Head to the south east corner of the building. There's something for you over there" Cayde said.
Pearl made her way through the building.
"This place has been wrecked" Pearl said. Suddenly they heard a loud noise
*crack crack boom!* thunder!
"There's storms on Mars?" Pear said
"Yep. Not much rain, but alot of lightning and thunder." The Ghost replied.
"Is the lightning supposed to enhance my electric blades?" Pearl asked.
"Nope. There's something better" Cayde answered. Pearl found the door to the area she had been sent to. The Ghost flew towards the computer next to it.
"I'll unlock the door. Prepare to fight some Cabal. "And watch out for lightning."
The door opened and Pearl was greeted by Cabal. *pew pew pew*. Pearl ducked and ran for cover.
"Let's do this" Pearl said and activated her Bladedancer ability, summoning two electric knives. She ran to the Cabal and sliced her way through, doing her best to get around their shields. *crack!* Lightning struck the building in front Pearl.
"If you get struck, try channelling the energy, like you do with your blades." Cayde said.
"Alright" Pearl said. But then Pearl unintentionally got what she wished for. *Zap Crack* Pearl had been struck by lightning but through the pain, she charged her blades. She struck the Cabal with more force because of it.
"Great. You can handle some lightning." Cayde said. "Now go to the tall antenna on the small building in front of you."
Pearl climbed up to it. "This looks like an easy place to get struck" she said.
"Why exactly do you want us to do this?" The Ghost asked.
"For educational purposes of course!" Cayde replied. "Hold to the pole"
"Uh are you sure about this?" Pearl asked.
"When the lightning strikes, don't try to control it too much. Let it flow through you. You are like a guide for it." Cayde explained. "You'll become an Arcstrider."
"An Arcstrider? What's that?" Pearl asked
The Ghost answered "they have an electric staff instead of just blades."
"Flow like lightning. Strike like thunder" Cayde said. *crack boom* Lightning struck the pole Pearl was holding onto. She broke the pole off and held it above her with one hand.
"You can do this!" The Ghost encouraged Pearl. Electricity was all over the pole until it dissolved. But there was still a pole in Pearl's hand. An electric pole, well now it could be considered a staff.
"I've got it" Pearl said and held the electric staff in front of her.
"Good. Weild that arc energy and take out those Cabal" Cayde said. Two Cabal tanks were coming. Pearl dodged the Cabal fire as best, doing a Naruto run until she got to a tank.
*click bang* the tank fired but missed. Pearl jumped onto one and stabbed it with her electric staff.
"Watch out!" The Ghost warned. There was a red laser pointed near Pearl while she was on the tank.
"The second tank is going to fire" the Ghost said. Pearl jumped off just in time. *Boom* The second tank fired, hitting the first tank that Pearl had just been standing on.
"One down. One more to go" The Ghost said. Slicing through Cabal, Pearl went to the other tank.
Another big door opened, and two more tanks came in.
"Seriously? These guys just don't quit!" Pearl said
"Wait, what's that in the sky?" the Ghost asked.
There was a blue streak falling from the building above the tanks, falling like lighting but slower.
"It's gonna hit the tanks" Pearl said.
*boom* the tank exploded when the blue object hit. When the smoke from the tank cleared, Pearl could see a person standing there.
"It's Ratchet!" The Ghost said
"Thought you could use a hand" Ratchet said
"So that's what a Titan Striker is like" Pearl said
Ratchet went to Pearl as to prepare to fight the remaining Cabal and tank.
"I'll take left side, you take right side" Ratchet planned
"Where's your gun? Are you just going to punch your way through?" Pearl asked
"At close quarters a fist is better than any gun" Ratchet replied. He jumped out and punched his way through the Cabal with his electric fists.
"Punching things it was Titans do best" the Ghost said
Pearl followed Ratchet, and gracefully sliced up the Cabal, using her staff like Darth Maul would use his double bladed lightsaber.
"Nice work Pearl". Cayde said. "You're an Arcstrider. When you're done with the Cabal, get back to the city and meet up with your friends."
"Thanks for the help Ratchet" Pearl said.
When they finished, the went back to the city, to hear about everyone else's new experience.
