Sorry for the late update! I've been REALLY busy last week, and well, it just became messy. But I'm back now!
I froze as I saw Hook, my eyes immediately darting behind him to see if Uma was there.
I almost sighed in relief when I didn't catch sight of the turquoise-haired girl anywhere nearby. But then panic hit me again as I remembered who had caught me.
If Hook was here Uma couldn't be far behind.
My eyes immediately snapped back to the pirate's electric blue eyes that had been staring at me with this a glint of victory. He looked between me and the cloak once more and all hopes of him not recognising the clothing were washed out of my brain like the ocean was washing the stones underneath as I saw his grin widening.
"It seems like yer luck has finally run out," Hook sounded so excited that I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd started giggling like a pre-teen girl, "Just wait till Uma finds out."
Despite the situation, I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his words.
Honestly, I know I joke about the pirates being Uma's little minions and blind puppy followers but this was getting ridiculous even by those standards.
"What an idiot," I whispered quietly under my breath.
Apparently, I wasn't quiet enough cause I felt Hook look at me with a confused frown.
"What?" he asked.
"Nothing," I replied shortly. I wasn't about to anger the pirate any further by telling him what I was actually thinking. Plus, I'd rather divert my energy towards more useful things... like trying to plan how to escape from here. I wracked my brain, my eyes darting around quickly as I tried to come up with something but it was of no use.
The only thing I could come up with was the most useless, most stupid plan ever...
Bluffing.
Hook looked like he wanted to press further for details but instead shook his head as he let himself grin again, "Nevermind. Oh, just wait till I reveal ye're secret. After that, I'll-"
Well, here goes nothing...
"Go ahead!" I interrupted, letting a confident smirk grace my face as I relaxed in Hook's grip.
Hook paused for a moment before his eyebrows immediately knit together in suspicion.
"Huh?"
"I said: Go ahead, tell her," I bluffed even further, mentally praying for the Devil to be on my side as I murmured under my breath again, this time just loud enough for him to hear, "This will be fun."
I didn't say anything else as I casually started picking at my nails while I am almost sure I could hear the cogs in Hook's brain whirl.
He knew he had the proof in his hand- literally- and he knew that he could easily use it to exact revenge for every single insult he had faced these past few days.
But he also remembered what had happened the last time they had been in such a position. With Hook knowing the secret but me being the more 'confident' one. And I could visibly see his hesitance.
I only hoped that the hesitance would carry out all the way.
But that turned out not to be the case.
I felt my heart sink as I saw Hook's gaze harden while his grip on the cloak didn't loosen any further.
I felt panic grip at the edges of my mind and while Hook was still distracted a bit, I let my mind go on autopilot as my hand reached out and snatched the cloak out of Hook's hand before he could react. I almost dropped it into the sea below too but then Hook caught onto what was happening and whirled me around and away from the edge so that my arm couldn't reach the drop.
I growled and immediately stomped on his foot.
He let out a yelp and his grip loosened just slightly.
I used that to try to manoeuvre my way to the front again.
He used to momentum to twist my hand behind my back.
I roughly tried to shake him off.
He tried to get the cloak back.
I unsuccessfully tried to kick him in the knee.
He grimaced as my swinging hair hit him right in the face.
We continued to fight awkwardly on the otherwise silent and empty dock. It was nothing like the fights I had seen on the isle or in the occasional glimpses on the otherwise useless tv. There was no fancy footwork, coordinated sequences or hard-hitting fists. No, the fight was just a sloppy, panicked tangle of limbs and clothes (or one cloth- the cloak- to be more precise).
Somewhere in the back of my mind I couldn't help but think that if I had been seeing this fight from a third point of view, I would have either laughed or been worried that the two fighters were having unanimous bouts of seizure.
We both paused a bit when we heard the sound of ripping fabric fill the air.
My eyes widened as I saw the cloak which had been ripped in two, one half hanging from Hook's hand while the other hung from my own.
Snapping myself out of my reverie I immediately grabbed onto both pieces of the fabric and rushed forward ("Oi!" Hook screamed). Just as I threw the cloak into the sea and was beginning to feel relieved; the pirate barrelled into my back making me let out an undignified shriek and sent us rolling around on the floor, scooting to a stop too close to the dock's edge for my liking.
We paused, Hook on top of me, the sound of both our ragged breathing filling the air as we watched the clothes fall down the dock and sink below the surface with completely opposite expressions.
I almost laughed, the only things stopping me being the utter exhaustion I felt over this whole ordeal.
I swear if Mack doesn't show me more appreciation after this I might just kill the boy myself.
Hook let out a frustrated growl, though I felt a bit of vindication fill me as I heard he sounded just as tired and worn out as me.
"What the hell?"
This time I did laugh, forcing it into a truly merry giggle at the very end as I turned to look at the source of the voice.
Uma.
"What are you doing, Harry? You were supposed to be looking for that cloaked girl. Not doing..." Uma trailed off, waving her arms vaguely as it became clear she wasn't sure what her first mate was doing.
"Of course, now she comes!" Hook muttered, annoyedly letting out a groan.
Feeling extremely giddy upon escaping a (what I had deemed to be) inescapable situation that night... twice, I couldn't help myself from letting out the mischievousness bubbling in me.
"I- I'm sorry, Uma. It was my fault. I started talking to Harry. I just hadn't expected us to get so... distracted," I giggled shyly after saying that, and looked up at the pirate batting her eyelashes flirtatiously as I heard Uma choke on air.
It took a second for the noiret to catch onto the implication though and then his widened in horror at my words that were further emphasised by the position we had been caught in.
He immediately scrambled off me and looked between me and Uma.
"Uma, I swear-"
"Nope!" Uma said, throwing her hands in the air as if giving up, "Spare me the details!"
With that, she walked away from them while Hook rushed to follow up after her.
I just lay there for a few moments with the widest grin I had ever held settled on my face, only challenged by the grin I had the next day when Mack barged into my room after his school screaming about me being the best sister ever.
