Their first official date went well. Lena was smiling when she arrived at work on the Monday morning, and she surprised her colleagues further by being ready to leave on time. The spies in the lab must have reported the suspicious activity because the next day Lena was invited to join Lillian in her office for lunch.

The private elevator accepted Lena's ID, allowing her to travel up to her step-mothers office. After receiving the note she'd spent the whole morning distracted, worrying what Lillian wanted. The secretary looked up as Lena stepped out of the elevator, smiled and pressed a button to notify Lillian that she had arrived.

"You can go through, she'll be with you in a moment," the secretary told her, before going back to her own work.

"Thank you."

Lena walked into Lillian's office and looked around. She missed having an office like this, one with floor to ceiling windows and so much space. Lillian had filled the room with more decorations and colours than Lena though was appropriate for an office, but at least it appeared more welcoming than Lex's office. She was busy studying a small elephant statue when Lillian arrived.

"Sit down, dear," Lillian indicated the pale blue chairs near the windows, then followed Lena over. "I ordered us both lunch, it should be here in a moment."

"Thank you."

"I'm pleased to see that you didn't injure your ankle too badly at the weekend."

"About the fundraiser, I'm really sorry..."

"I understand, it was an accident. I'm sure it won't happen again."

There was a knock on the door and Lillian's secretary brought in their lunch, then left. Lillian indicated to Lena that she could choose from the neatly wrapped selection first. They ate in silence. Lena taking small bites, her eyes wandering to the windows as she wondered whether Kara would hear her if she had to call for help. It would be an interesting way to end the lunch, she supposed.

She watched Lillian finish her lunch, neatly fold the wrapper and place it on the table. Even though she was still hungry, Lena placed her half-eaten roll on the table. Lillian gave her a look that suggested she would have waited for Lena to finish eating.

"If you have questions about the quarterly budget..."

Lillian cut her off with a raised hand, "that's not why I wanted us to have lunch together."

"Oh."

"I've noticed that you've become withdrawn in this world. Lex has given us everything we could desire for the Luthor name, created a world where we can do anything we wish yet you hide yourself away from the world."

"I'm still getting used to all the things that have changed."

"You can't spend your whole life in a lab. You need to go out and meet people, show the world what you can do."

"Lex wants the spotlight, I want to create something important. Something that will help make the world a better place."

"There is more to life than work."

"I know."

"If you like I can introduce you to some very lovely people, from the right kind of families and close to your own age..."

"I don't need you to choose my friends for me," Lena cut her off sharply.

"I don't want you to be lonely."

"I'm not. I have... people. Friends."

"Oh?" Lillian smiled, "you should invite them to our next fundraiser. Poor Supergirl was a little bored by some of the guests I invited but perhaps she would like to meet your friends."

"I don't think they would enjoy that kind of evening."

"Well perhaps a private gathering then, they could come to the mansion one evening?"

"The Luthor mansion? Won't Lex mind?"

"I'd really like to meet them. I believe you used to go to Kara's place for a... what was it called? Game night? Lex enjoys games, and I can arrange to have some purchased. We can even serve an informal dinner, would they prefers pizza's or some other kind of take away dishes?"

Lena shook her head, her small lie was spiralling out of control, "I'm not sure we're at the point for that just yet."

"What, meeting your family?"

"Yes."

"Don't be silly."

"Maybe I was too hasty, calling them friends, they're more like acquaintances... very casual acquaintances, who I maybe speak to once a year. At least, that's how they were in my old world. In this new one they might not even know me."

"Lena dear, I know how hard it was for you to find out about your old friends lying to you for years but I want you to be happy. Moving on with new friends is the best way to do that. I understand if you're embarrassed, thinking I won't approve because they're not rich or important enough, but if they can get you to think about life outside of work then that is all that matters "

Lena looked at Lillian's smiling face and didn't believe her. She hadn't missed the way Lillian reminded her that none of Kara's other friends had shared the truth with her, though they must have known. If she hadn't decided to forgive Kara, she might have considered Lillian's offer to find her some new friends if only to get her step-mother to back off.

"I hear Andrea Rojas is back in the country, do you remember her?" Lillian asked when Lena failed to speak.

"We used to be friends."

"She's doing very well for herself. I thought you might like to meet..."

"No."

Lillian tilted her head, as if studying Lena's reaction, "perhaps if you took up a new hobby, you could make some friends..."

Lena stood up, "if that is the only reason you asked me here, to discuss my need for friends..."

"If you're going to be stubborn, at least take the roll and finish it in your lab. You don't eat enough, you're starting to look pale."

Lena bit back a laugh, hearing Lillian repeat Alex's words seemed amusing in that moment. She picked up the roll, thanked her for the lunch and escaped the office before Lillian could make any further suggestions.

Kara smiled as she flew into the DEO, coming to land just a few feet away from her sister, flicking her cape back for dramatic effect. Alex rolled her eyes and handed her a clipboard. There was so much more paperwork with Lex around and, while the slightly larger budget was nice, she missed the old DEO.

"I've got something to show you," Alex told her once she'd returned the clipboard, walking quickly.

"Please tell me it's lunch-related," Kara begged, "I'm starving."

Shaking her head, Alex detoured to the canteen then shepherded her out once she'd collected a couple of burgers. Kara ate them on the way, the staff were used to her appetite and they knew she might be called away at any minute.

"In here?" Kara asked when they finally arrived at their destination. "Is something wrong with the hologram?"

Alex pulled her inside and shut the door, "Brainy secured the room, so we can talk about anything we want and not have to worry about eavesdroppers."

"Oh," Kara sat down, unwrapping her second burger from a napkin. "That's great."

"You know how you've promised Lena not to keep any secrets?"

"Yes."

"I think there's one we need to discuss before you tell her."

"What is it?"

"Argo."

"But Lena knows about Argo, she met my mom remember?"

"Except that during the Crisis it looked like Argo had been destroyed, so that's what the official DEO records show. We may have avoided mentioning to Lex that it was in fact saved, especially after he tried to destroy it."

"But we've been in contact with them, I spoke to my mother just last week."

"Brainy helped J'onn create a secure connection, that's why he told you to make the calls from there instead of here."

"So we're the only ones who know?"

"Us and Clark, of course. Kara, I spoke to Alura."

"Why?"

"Because eventually Lena will need to live on Argo."

"What?"

"Remember everything we discussed during Lois' pregnancy? All of that applies to Lena now, all the dangers both internal and from external sources. Anyone who wants to get to you will target her first. Her body might not be able to handle carrying a half-Kryptonian child once the effects of the baby's superpowers kick in."

"She won't want to leave Earth. It's just another reason she won't want this child, Alex."

Alex put an arm around her sisters shoulders, "I'm sorry Kara, but I've been going over Lois' records from Argo - she gave me permission to view them thinking it' was just professional curiosity, I haven't told her about Lena..."

"But Lois fell pregnant on Argo, and spent the whole pregnancy up there too. It might be different for Lena."

"Do you really want to take that risk?"

"What did you tell my mother?"

"That I wanted to be prepared in case Lois and Clark had more children. I thought you would want to be the one to tell her about Lena."

"Thanks. How long..."

"She's still in her first trimester, but she should definitely head up to Argo before she hits the halfway mark."

Kara closed her eyes, wondering how she was going to explain this to Lena.
