Peeta and I wake up before dawn. We want to get into 12 without being seen as we are probably being hunted by Snow and Peacekeepers. We are going to stay in Victor's Village until the train leaves for the Capitol. Usually the train comes and goes on Saturdays meaning we should have at least two days to get more supplies before we leave.
We walk the three hour hike to 12 in silence, not wanting anyone or anything to hear us. Finally the fence comes into view. We approach the fence and I listen for the hum that signifies that it is charged with electricity. Thankfully it is silent. Probably because Snow wanted me to have access to 12 if I came back.
It's still early morning, maybe seven o'clock so only the miners would be awake and already in the mines. Peeta and I are easily able to get to My old house by the meadow without being seen.
As we walk in the door I see a dark figure sitting at my old table. I immediately stop as the figure looks back at me. I recognize him. It's Gale.
"Katniss?" he says. "Is that you?"
"Gale!" I say and run towards him. I wrap my arms around him and hold on tight.
"Ow! Don't do that!" he says and pushes me away.
"Gale what's wrong?" I ask. "Why aren't you in the mines?"
"There was an accident," he says. "Right after the last Games ended there was an explosion. I don't think it was any accident. I have five broken ribs and my leg is all messed up. I can't go back for a while. What are you guys doing here?"
"We are going to the Capitol to get Daisy," Peeta says.
"The Capitol has Daisy?" Gale asks.
"They took her," I say. "Peeta and I were taken to District 13 but Snow took Daisy. We walked here so that we could get to the Capitol on the coal train."
"District 13? It's still there?" he asks.
"It's all underground," Peeta says. "No one would have ever known it was still there."
Just then I felt searing pain throughout my stomach and I collapsed to the ground.
"Katniss!" Peeta yells and he rushes to my side.
"Peeta the baby!" I say through the pain.
"We need to get her to her mom," Gale says.
"Katniss it's going to be ok," Peeta says, trying to calm me. "The baby will be ok!"
"Baby?" Gale says as they get a board to carry me on and cover me with clothes to disguise me.
"She's pregnant!" Peeta says worriedly.
This hurts Gale a lot. I can tell. Finally they pick me up and start to carry me to Victor's Village. We are almost there when I pass out.
