I don't own Sailor Moon, nor did I create it. Naoko Takeuchi created Sailor Moon, this is just my alternate universe version, a sort of "If I created Sailor Moon" story...
Note: Any dialogue written like this, unless another language is specified, is in Japanese. Furthermore, any dialogue in Japanese will use Japanese naming convention, which puts family(last) name first, followed by given name.
CHAPTER 8: ENDYMION AND THE ORIGIN OF THE SAILOR SOLDIERS
NOVEMBER 16, 1986
John McCoy had just gotten home from rehearsal with his band, and had put his guitar and amp back where he usually kept them. He thought about what he wanted for lunch, and decided on making himself a couple burritos with the taco meat his mom made a couple nights earlier. He knew there would be plenty, his mom always made a large batch, and there was just John, his mother, and aunt Trish. John heated up some meat, and while it was heating up, he grated some cheese, and heating up a couple large flour tortillas, and heated up some oil in a pan for frying He made the burritos with taco meat, cheese, onions, and red taco sauce, folding them up and frying them to a golden brown. When they were done, he topped them with ketchup, and ate them with a can of Delaware Punch. After eating, he went up to his bedroom, where he heard a cat meowing outside his window. He recognized the meow as that of Artemis, the cat owned by his friend Mina Aino. He opened the window to let Artemis in, and saw Mina Aino standing at the end of his driveway, behind his red 1966 Ford Mustang convertible. "Hey John," Mina said, when he opened the window.
"Hey Mina," John said, picking up Artemis. "I'll be down in a minute."
He went downstairs, and opened the door for Mina. Just as he opened the door, his communicator went off, and he answered it. "Trouble at Craig Park," Sailor Moon said. "Everyone get into character and meet me by the basketball courts."
"Right," John said. "You know where Craig Park is?" he asked Mina.
"No," Mina said.
"I'll take you," John said. "Let's transform first."
"Right," Mina said. "Pretty Venus Soldier, Make-Up!"
John briefly disappeared, as if falling through a trap door in the floor, and by the time Mina had transformed, he reappeared as Golden Hawk. "Grab Artemis, and hang on," Golden Hawk said.
As Sailor Venus grabbed Artemis, and also grabbed on to Golden Hawk's shoulder, the three of them disappeared, as if they fell through a trap door, traveling through the dimension Golden Hawk taps into, and appeared in a puff of gold smoke in Craig Park, near where Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, and Sailor Jupiter were standing. "We're just waiting for Sailor Mars," Sailor Moon said.
As if on cue, Sailor Mars arrived on the scene. "What's the situation?" she asked, as she arrived.
"Demons in the park," Sailor Moon said. "I'd take them myself, but I figured everyone else would want to get a few shots in."
"You know I'm up for a good fight," Golden Hawk said, cracking his knuckles.
"Besides," Sailor Mars said, "we're a team, nobody has to fly solo."
"What say we cut these demons down to size?" Golden Hawk said, unsheathing his staff, and transforming it into a laser sword with a green blade.
"Is it just me," Sailor Venus said, "or does Golden Hawk seem to enjoy fighting?"
"I think he sees this as a form of therapy for some anger issues," Sailor Mars said. "He takes his aggression out on demons."
"How about a little less talking, a little more kicking the shit out of demons?" Sailor Moon said.
"Right," Golden Hawk said, rushing several demons, killing 3 of them with one swing of his laser sword.
"Mercury Hailstorm Barrage!" Sailor Mercury said, sending a barrage of hail at the demons, killing several.
Sailor Venus balled her right hand into a fist, with index finger extended, and kissed the tip of said finger. "Venus Crescent Beam Kiss!" she said, firing a crescent shaped beam of energy at a demon, destroying it.
"Mars Flaming Punch!" Sailor Mars said, making a fist which was surrounded by flames. She threw a haymaker in the general direction of one of the demons, firing a ball of flame at it, destroying it.
"Jupiter Lightning Blast!" Sailor Jupiter said, as a 3" antenna rose from her tiara. A bolt of lightning hit the antenna, which she channeled, firing balls of lightning from her hands, destroying several demons.
"Moon Tiara Boomerang!" Sailor Moon said, throwing her boomerang at a group of demons, destroying several of them.
"Looks like there's only one left," Golden Hawk said, deactivating his laser sword, and hooking it to his belt. "Right now, I think I'm in the mood for a little overkill. Let's all hit it at the same time."
"Mercury Hailstorm Barrage!"
"Mars Flaming Punch!"
"Jupiter Lightning Strike!"
"Venus Crescent Beam Kiss!"
"Moon Tiara Boomerang!"
As the Sailor Soldiers focused their attacks on the final demon, Golden Hawk unsheathed his tonfas, and channeled energy through them, using them as blasters. All the attacks hit the demon at the same time, destroying it completely.
"Very impressive," came a voice from behind the team. They turned around to see a man with long black hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a dark blue military style jacket with a black Sam Browne belt(a belt with a strap which hooked to the belt at the wearer's right hip both front and back, going across the body, and over the left shoulder), dark blue pants with a red stripe down each leg, which were worn tucked into knee high black leather boots. He also had a sword in a scabbard that hung from his left hip.
"Who are you?" Sailor Moon asked.
"You can call me Endymion," he said. "And who might you be"
"I am the Pretty Soldier of Love and Justice," Sailor Moon said. "I am Sailor Moon, and in the name of the Moon, I'll punish you!"
"I am the Pretty Soldier of Love and Intelligence," Sailor Mercury said. "I am Sailor Mercury, and in the name of Mercury, douse yourself in water and repent!"
"I am the Pretty Soldier of Love and Passion," Sailor Mars said. "I am Sailor Mars, and I'll chastise you!"
"I am the Pretty Soldier of Love and Courage," Sailor Jupiter said. "I am Sailor Jupiter, and in the name of Jupiter, I'll fill you so full of regret it'll make you numb!"
"I am the Pretty Soldier of Love and Beauty," Sailor Venus said. "I am Sailor Venus, and in the name of Venus, I'll castigate you with love!"
"And I'm the Heavy Metal Suburban Vigilante for the 1980s," Golden Hawk said. "My name is Golden Hawk, and in the name of everything wicked cool, I'll kick your ass!"
"Six on one," Endymion said. "I don't really care about those odds."
"Especially when you've seen firsthand what we can do when we're the ones who are outnumbered," Golden Hawk said, unhooking his laser sword from his belt, and activating the blade. "But if you're concerned about the odds, why don't you and I just have a one on one fight?"
:I think discretion is the better part of valor," Endymion said, as he disappeared in a puff of black smoke.
"Sailor Soldier's meeting," Luna said. "Right now."
"Am I invited?" Golden Hawk asked.
"Of course," Sailor Moon said.
The team, including Golden Hawk, teleported to the fallout shelter in Rae Hino's backyard. Once they arrived, they transformed back into their civilian identities. "Just one thing," Rae said, just before Golden Hawk transformed. "Is there any way you can do that without the smoke?"
"Sure," Golden Hawk said, disappearing, and reappearing as John McCoy. "The smoke's just for show, anyways," John said.
"Things just got serious," Luna said. "Now that Endymion threw his lot into the game."
"Who is Endymion, anyways?" Usagi Tsukino asked.
"I'm about to tell you," Luna said. "Artemis and I are about to tell you, that is."
"Beryl, as you know, fashions herself as the rightful queen of Earth," Artemis said. "Endymion is her most trusted leftenant."
"At one time," Luna said, "Endymion was one of our most valuable allies. He was the captain of Queen Serenity's Royal Guard. He worked alongside the Sailor Soldiers, the private bodyguards and best friends of Princess Serenity."
"Ten thousand years ago," Artemis said, "The Moon was a paradise, more beautiful than you could possibly imagine. A Garden of Eden, if you want to call it that. However, much like the Garden of Eden in the Bible, there was a serpent in the Moon Kingdom, and the serpent was named Endymion. While we trusted him, he was secretly acting as a spy for Beryl. Beryl was the last survivor of a race of two headed beings from a planet just beyond our Solar System. She tried to take over her own planet, and when the people rose against her, she destroyed her own planet, as an example. After destroying her own planet and killing off the rest of her race, she set her sights on Earth. She knew the Moon Kingdom was the last line of defense, so she sought to destroy the Moon Kingdom, and take over Earth."
"Beryl knew she couldn't destroy the Moon Kingdom alone," Luna added. "She needed an ally, someone on the inside. She found it in a soldier in the Royal Guard. A soldier whose loyalty seemed unimpeachable, one who nobody would suspect was helping out the enemy. Beryl seduced Endymion, turned him to her side, made him a double agent, her mole inside the Moon Kingdom. Finally, it was time for her to make her move. Nobody questioned Endymion's loyalty until he showed his true colors. He murdered Princess Serenity and the Sailor Soldiers, and mortally wounded Queen Serenity. Before Queen Serenity succumbed to her wounds, she managed to imprison Beryl, Endymion, and their minions in another dimension. Queen Serenity knew Beryl, Endymion, and their minions would eventually escape, so she sent Princess Serenity and the Sailor Soldiers to be reborn in the future, to fight Beryl. She also sent Artemis and I to Earth, to monitor it, and to awaken the Sailor Soldiers and Princess Serenity when the time was right. I ended up here in Placentia, because I was able to sense the presence of three of the Soldiers new forms, while Artemis went to look for the other two."
"About 18 months ago," Artemis said, "I found myself in Liverpool, England. Somehow, I was a bit careless, and ended up getting caught by the local animal control, and placed in a shelter. A few days later, Mina comes in with her parents, she convinced them to let her adopt a cat."
"I don't know what it was," Mina said. "But when I first saw Artemis, for some reason, I could sense we were meant to be together. I know that sounds weird, but I just knew I had to have that white cat with the crescent moon shaped bald spot on its forehead."
"Just as Mina sensed I was meant to be her cat," Artemis said, "I was able to see that she was who I was looking for. I remember something Mina's father said when she adopted me."
"Something my dad always said about cats," Mina said. "He said you don't actually adopt a cat, the cat adopts you. But in this case, Artemis and I adopted each other."
"Anyways," Artemis said, "a few months after Mina and I adopted each other, I told her that it was no accident that we wound up together, but destiny. I told her that she had a power inside her, and I was to help her unlock it. I gave her the identity of Sailor V, as a way to train her for her true duty. She served as Sailor V until just a few weeks ago, she faked her death in an explosion, and I kind of manipulated events so she would find her way here, with the rest of the Sailor Soldiers. Once we were here in Southern California, I revealed her true identity as Sailor Venus."
"And I learned the final member of the team was in Japan," Luna said. "So I manipulated events so she would wind up here. As for Golden Hawk, his appearance was serendipity."
"I have something to say," John said.
"What is it?" Luna asked.
"Like Luna said," John said, "my showing up as Golden Hawk when I first did was serendipity. I was just hanging out in the park, hiding in the trees, because I had a feeling in my gut something was about to go down, and Golden Hawk needed to be there. Anyways, I've said every chance I get that I'm not a part of your team, I'm just someone who you can call on whenever you need me. But I think it's time for that to change."
"What are you saying?" Usagi asked.
"As of right now," John said, "I'm officially joining the team. If you'll have me, that is."
"Of course we'll have you," Luna said. "You've proven your value to the team on a few occasions. But what made you change your mind?"
"Endymion," John said. "Something familiar about him, and I just realized what it is"
"What is it?" Artemis asked.
"I know who he is," John said. "And I'm kind of surprised he's out of juvie."
"You don't mean...?" Rae asked.
"Of course that's who I mean," John said. "Endymion is Darien Shields. I've known that douchebag since I was 10, and I've always known he was bad news. That's why I want to officially throw my lot in with you, I want a piece of him."
"Trust me," Luna said "You will get a piece of him."
