I don't own the characters or anything but the story. First I like to apologise for how long it took for this chapter to come out for all those that were waiting there is one person I like to address who I don't know if they were trying to come off as rude but but their messages made it seem like it. First off stating that I have plenty of time when you have no idea what my schedule is like or saying I was supposed to update months ago is not something you should do no matter eager you are for the next chapter.
I would address the person privately but posted as a guest so I can't. I won't delete the comments for now however if this person continues being rude I will do so before they even get posted. Now as for why it's taken so long to update, a mixture of thing such as general awfulness of the year, sporadic writer's block, my computer breaking so now I'm using a tablet and at one point losing power where I live writing has been painfully slow.
I've been trying to get better at writing at least a little everyday and hopefully I will be able to the next chapter of A new life and after that possible another simpson one shot. I hope you all are safe and healthy and that you enjoy the chapter.
Tarzan made his way through the trees around camp while thinking about how odd his parents had been acting lately. Ever since Tarzan's run in with Sabor a few days before both his mom and dad had been more watchful and protective than usual.
Tarzan had ended up in dangerous situations before and none of them had shaken his parents as much as this particular incident. As he pondered this he was going past a couple trees where he could just hear the voices of a couple of male gorillas on the other side.
He was about to continue walking when the mention of his father's name caught his attention. "You know I never expected Kerchak of all people to accept such a pathetic creature for a son. Initially I thought he let it stay just to keep his mate happy, but no he actually seem to care for the thing."
Tarzan froze unable to will himself away as the other voice spoke up "Yeah, Losing their first kid must of hurt them more than we thought if they were willing to accept such weak thing as a replacement." They continued to talk but Tarzan finally managed to will himself to move and began sprinting through the forest while his mind raced.
What had they meant first kid. He was his parents only child, wasn't he? His parents had never mentioned anything about a sibling and no one else before now had said anything either? He changed his direction to head towards where he knew his mother was desperate for answers.
He nearly rammed right into her where she was sitting chatting with some of the other female gorillas, but managed to stop just in time. "Mom, mom I need to talk to you." He said almost frantically. Kala turned away from her conversation to gaze at him with concern "Tarzan what is it? What's wrong?"
"Mom, did you and Dad..." He paused suddenly wondering if this was a good idea but pressed on hesitantly "have a child besides me?" His mom looked shocked before saying "Tarzan where'd you hear that?" Out of the corner of his eye he noticed the gorillas his mom was talking to discreetly walk away leaving the two of them alone. Tarzan quickly explained the conversation he had just overheard.
Kala sat silently for a second before saying "Come I think we should find your father so the three of us can talk." Tarzan nodded even as he started to feel even more nervous about the upcoming conversation, before they went to locate Kerchak. Once they found him Kala told him it was urgent the three of the spoke. As soon as they were alone Tarzan repeated the conversation he overheard to his dad.
Kerchak felt several emotions run through him as Tarzan finished with the most prominent being anger and panic. Anger at knowing some of the others were speaking so callously about his family even after he had given several warning against it and panic because he had never really intended to tell Tarzan about Kamau and he had no idea what he should say.
There was also the fact the two gorillas had been right about one thing. While he never considered Tarzan as a replacement it was hard to ignore the fact that if Kamau hadn't died it was incredibly unlikely they would have Tarzan at all.
Even if Kala had managed to hear Tarzan, which was unlikely considering she wouldn't be back grieving but close to the front with the other mothers, and still chose to save him, the clan knew he would be far more resistant in letting him stay. While he truly loved Tarzan as his own his initial agreement had been for Kala sake as holding Tarzan was the first time he had seen life in his mate's eyes since their son's death.
While all this turned over in his head his son gazed at him with a somewhat anxious look on his face? With a sigh he reached out and pulled Tarzan close to himself. He glanced over at his mate who nodded slightly, so he turned back to Tarzan and quietly said "They were telling the truth that we had a child before you, but you have never been a replacement for him."
"What.. happened to him?" Tarzan asked very hesitantly. Kerchak couldn't stop the pain lacing his voice as he replied "He was killed by Sabor when he was only a few weeks old." He watched his son's widen in shock before he pressed closer to him and Kerchak just barely caught the soft "I'm sorry" that was said into his fur.
Before he could say anything Kala moved closer to them before reaching out to pull Tarzan's face away from Kerchak and brush his long hair out of his face before saying "Tarzan you have no reason to be sorry." " Your mother's right Tarzan, because you coming into our lives was the first time we both felt joyful since Kamau died."
Tarzan glanced between the two of them before saying "Really?" Kerchak smiled lightly before saying "Yes really. We both love you Tarzan, never think otherwise." Tarzan hidden hugging his father while his mother pressed against his back and Kerchak wrapped his arms around both of them holding them close.
Tarzan finally pulled back a little with a thoughtful look on his face and stated "I wish I could have met my brother." Kerchak merely nodded not wanting to mention that meeting would have likely never occurred even if things had gone differently.
The family finally separated with Kala taking Tarzan to go get something to eat and Kerchak after getting names from Tarzan went off to talk to the gorillas the boy had overheard. As he walked he couldn't help but think about what else might be revealed to his son in the future.
He was already aware that he was different from those around them so would he eventually figure out he wasn't their actual son or even a gorilla. The thought made him feel uneasy but how long could the rather bright boy remain ignorant to something that was rather obvious.
He couldn't help but hope that it was still a long way off and that he would be understanding when he found out. He also needs to make sure he didn't find out though another Ill timed conversation. He found the gorillas he was looking for and set about making sure they twice about making such comments again.
