Sam and Leah: Wedding Jitters
Today was the day. Today was the day he was getting married, married to the one and only love of his life. Sam Uley was about to wed and become the husband to Leah Clearwater. He still couldn't believe that after all the years of pain, emotional suffering, and heartbreak, it had all lead to this. And now, now he was going to become a married time. Everything was going to be perfect for this wedding, except for one thing. He had wedding jitters.
Sam rarely was nervous about anything in his life. The only times he had been were, funny enough, with certain events concerning Leah. The first time he had ever asked her out had been one of them, another time had been when he had originally proposed before phasing, when he proposed a second time and she had agreed, and when their baby daughter Elizabeth had been born. And now he had something else to add to that list. Only thing was he couldn't get over his wedding jitters. He was feeling so restless and silly doubts were beginning to fill his head.
A knock on the door caught his attention before Sue popped her head in. Looking at the young man, she smiled and stepped inside. Looking him over, she said, "You look very handsome, Sam."
"Thank you, Sue," Sam replied.
Sue looked at her soon to be son-in-law, taking in his anxious expression that he was attempting to hide behind a happily neutral mask. Frowning she asked, "Are you alright?"
Sam looked at the older woman before saying, "Kind of. It's just…I have wedding jitters."
"Oh, well that's nothing to be ashamed of. So long as you don't get cold feet, everything will be okay."
"Never, I'd never leave Leah; I love her so much. But…sometimes I wonder if I really deserve her, Sue. I put her through so much hurt, I'm still surprised to this day that she was even willing to give me—us—another chance. And her agreeing to be my wife, it's just surreal to me, that's all. But I guess that I'm afraid that Leah will end up changing her mind and she won't want to go through with marrying me."
Sue nodded in understanding and gently took his hands in her own. "Now, you listen to me, Samuel Uley. My daughter loves you, she always has. Even during your time with Emily and all the pain she went through, she loved you. Leah has never stopped loving you and I don't think she ever will. You know, she told me after finding out about you and Emily that she regretted not accepting your proposal, though I think she also understood it wouldn't have stopped you Imprinting. That was her biggest regret during that time. And when she cried her eyes out when you proposed again? It was because she thought she'd never have that chance with you again, especially after being at death's door for six years. Sam, my daughter loves you more than anything and you make her happy, and so long as she's happy, I'm happy. I understand you that you don't think you deserve this happiness, but you do; both of you do, so don't question it and simply take it. And between you and me, Leah is a nervous wreck as well."
Sam smiled and nodded, thanking Sue and giving her a hug before the woman departed, stating she had to check on Elizabeth. Sam went back to making himself ready for his wedding when his cell phone began to ring. Picking it up, he was surprised to see his fiancé's name flashing on the screen. Wondering what Leah wanted, Sam answered the call and placed the device to his ear.
"Hello?" Sam said into the speaker.
"Sam?" Leah's voice said through the receiver.
"Hey, is everything alright?"
"Yeah, I'm okay. We're all almost done here. I'm just calling because…well, it won't be long now. We're actually getting married, Sam."
Leah's voice had ended with a giggle, Sam smiling and chuckling along with her. Calming down, Sam replied, "Yes, and I'll be able to call you Mrs. Sam Uley."
"I can't wait for that. But I do have to admit that I'm having serious wedding jitters right now."
"I am too, but everything will be fine. And so long as you don't run out on me, we're okay."
"Oh please, you'd get cold feet before I would."
Sam laughed at Leah's words. "Not on your life, Leah. Besides, I've waited too long for this moment, I'm not walking away from it and never will. I love you, Leah Clearwater, and that is never going to change. And once we're married and come back from our honeymoon, we'll have Beth and be back to being a family again."
The sound of Leah's soft giggle was heard before she said softly, "I'd like that. Okay, I'm ready."
"So am I. I'll see you in fifteen."
"See you in fifteen. Love you, Sam."
"Love you too, Lee."
Sam hung up the phone and smiled down at the device in his hand. Despite his pre-wedding jitters, he was ready to meet Leah at the altar. He was ready to marry her, ready to call her his wife. And he couldn't wait to spend the rest of his life with the love of his life.
