No 9 & 10. "Run!" + Trail of Blood (950 words)

"Oh, you gotta be kidding me!" Leo exclaimed as soon as he caught his breath. He glared dumbfoundedly at the structure towering before them. "A maze? A freakin' garden maze, that's great!"

He couldn't help the slightly hysterical laugh that escaped him. But in that situation, who could blame him? His stepfather had a surprising amount of super villain-esque enemies. Complete with crazy world domination plans, bloodthirsty hounds – oh, and literal mazes apparently.

"So, is this a bad guy thing or a billionaire thing? Because I can totally see Big D owning a maze. Wait! Does Big D own a maze?"

Chase didn't answer him. Instead he was staring wide-eyed at the mansion they had just gotten out of.

"Leo...?" Chase said, voice shaky, as he started backing away from the building, pulling Leo with him.

"What?" Leo replied, dread seeping into his bones. Chase didn't have to answer though, because soon enough the sounds of growling reached his ears too. Right... Bloodthirsty hounds.

"Run!" Chase shoved his brother towards the maze. Leo stumbled, almost falling to the ground.

"But what about the-"

The sound of the mansion doors crashing open drowned out the rest of Leo's protest and Chase shoved him again.

"RUN!"

And so Leo did. It wasn't like he had any better idea – and, well, bloodthirsty hounds!

-X-

Leo wasn't sure how long he ran for. But once he finally stopped he'd hit his umpteenth dead end, his lungs were burning from the exertion and he had no idea when Chase had disappeared from behind him. Oh, and there was a huge dog about to eat him.

Sometimes Leo missed the boring non-life-threatening days before his mom married Big D.

As the dog took another menacing step there was a sudden rush of wind and Adam and Bree were standing beside him.

"Leo!" Adam shouted happily.

"DOG!" Leo screamed back as the dog suddenly started running.

"Oh! I love- WHOA!"

Adam instinctively threw his arms out as the dog leaped at him, sending the dog tumbling through the hedge and onto another path in the maze. Leo let out a shaky laugh in relief.

"You have no idea how good it is to see you two."

"Where's Chase?"

Leo bit his lip as his gaze flittered uselessly around them.

"I don't know, we got separated once those things started chasing us."

"Things," Bree cut in, "as in more than one?"

"Yeah, well, someone who has a literal maze in their yard hardly only has one bloodthirsty hound." Leo shrugged, before frowning. "But speaking of that. We're in a literal maze and I don't even know where we are."

"Stay here," Bree ordered before running off once more.

-X-

Even for someone with super speed it didn't take long until she came to a stop before her brothers again. She was still alone.

"Did you find Chase?" Adam asked urgently while Leo couldn't help but notice how pale she looked. Bree just shook her head, not answering them as she grabbed hold of them and dragged them with her.

After too many quick turns for Leo to keep track of they stopped. Chase wasn't there. But there was blood on the ground and dotted trail of red continuing further into the maze – or maybe it was out of the maze, Leo couldn't be sure.

A loud growling was heard from around the corner, causing the siblings to share a look. As they turned they saw another dog. Just as big and just as angry as the one who'd been chasing Adam. Except this one had a red smeared around the corner of his mouth that Leo really didn't want to think about. The road before the dog was blocked by the ruined form of one of the big statues that Leo had seen scattered around the maze.

Leo wanted nothing more than to turned around and leave, but the blood trail was going past the statue. That meant Chase had gone that way and no dog would be keeping them from following. Adam and Bree seemed to be of the same opinion and shared a few quick glances, silently agreeing on a plan.

Bree got the dog to follow her, running at normal speed in the opposite direction as Adam swiftly punched away through the fallen statue. Bree soon returned having easily outmaneuvered the dog and run back to her brothers. They only needed to make another two turned before they found their missing fourth.

"Chase!" Leo couldn't help but pull his brother into a hug as he saw him, careful not to touch his bleeding arm. "Oh man, I thought you were dog food."

"No, not – ah – not quite," Chase winced, pressing down against the wound more firmly. Adam and Bree came over to their younger brothers, glad to have found them both alive, and quickly helped Chase wrap a piece of cloth around the bite. They cut the reunion short, however, as Bree started glancing around uneasily.

"I vote we get the heck out of here," she said before frowning. "But it's gonna take me forever to find the way out of here, especially with those dogs running around. It was easy enough to find you what with the blood and Leo's girly screams."

"Hey!" Leo protested. "Those were manly screams of terror."

"Oh, really?"

"I know the way out," Chase cut them off before they could really get started.

"You do?"

"Of course I do," Chase glared, insulted that his siblings would think anything else.

"Well, for once, I do not mind that bragging," Leo declared, wrapping an arm around his brother's shoulder. "Lead the way! I wanna go home."

"Yeah," Chase sighed tiredly. "That sounds great."
