Chapter eight
Horrified, Artemis turned to the little elven boy that laid beside her. Her eyes met his and they stayed stuck on each other for what felt like hours. She found nothing in his orbs to indicate that he knew of the effects of the mysterious white pill. Tearing her gaze away from the boy, Artemis plopped down on her backside propping her elbows to the knees of her legs and sighed. When Natsu returned, he took a seat next to Artemis and began to examine the timid, frightened boy. The pink head noticed that under the warn out cloak, laid a set of clothes only befitting a slave. His toffee colored shirt frayed in every direction possible, with large holes lining the collar. His pants, were a faded grey (which were most likely black when new) that looked like it had never been washed. And there, on his very thin wrists, laid two thick black chains with large S's engraved into them.
"Shadow" whispered Natsu to himself.
"Huh?" questioned Artemis.
"Um. Nothing. I'll tell you later."
"So what are we gonna do."
"Well we still have the kid. We could still interrogate him"
"That doesn't feel right. He so...innocent."
"How can you tell?"
"Look at his eyes."
Natsu preceded to stare into the overwhelmed eyes of the little elf. Innocent.
"So now what?"
"I think, I'm just going to try talk to him" replied Artemis as she got up and headed towards the squirming boy. She held her palms out as she sat down next to him. His restless eyes began to relax and they sat together, not really sure how to start the conversation.
"What's your name?" Artemis began in a sweet, small voice so as to not scare the already shaken child.
"K-Kronus" replied the boy in a meek wavering voice.
"Oh. That's a really cool name. Did you know in my world, that name belonged to a god?"
The elf shock his head slightly.
"Yeah. He was a god that commanded the great Titans and was the father of one of the greatest heroes in Greek mythology. My name actually comes from one of those myths."
Kronus turned his head to face Artemis and asked "W-What is your name?"
"It's Artemis. Goddess of hunt and chastity."
"What's chastity?" asked Cronus with a slight tilt in his head.
Artemis blushed a little and said "Um. Maybe when your a little older, I'll tell you."
He looked at her with confusion written across his face but let his curiosity go.
"Well how old are you?"
'I t-turn twelve in two weeks" he stuttered.
"Oh my. Twelve is a big age. You mature enough to handle it?"
"Heh. I can manage" he chuckled.
"Well you'll sure be a handsome little devil that's for sure" said Artemis lightly punching his shoulder.
This time it was Cronus's turn to blush.
"Where are you from?"
"Lendora..."
"That sounds like a really cool place. Tell me about it"
"W-Well, the land is covered in sand, with skies as bright and clear as the oceans. The cities were tall, busy, and rowdy with excitement and wonder. It was all powered by a stone buried deep within the undergrounds of our city. No one knew of it's where abouts and never explored it in fear of falling into temptation of it's mighty power. My people, they were peaceful and serene and never believed in war or violence. M-My family would go into the markets every Sunday." Cronus had a shy smile and small twinkle in his eyes as he spoke, until it was clouded by a ominous and dark face. "Until the men robed in black came seven years ago. They rounded up my people with foreign dangerous weapons, and forced them into tiny cages they built underneath the city. Every day, they kept us in the cold dark cells, starving us, torturing us, taking and using our magic. They shackled us and force my people to dig and search for the Lendorian stone. Slowly they noticed my increasing magical abilities and plucked me, like livestock, away from my bother and mother. " Cronus then pulled his knees closer to his chest as the sticky fluid had already melted off from his leg long ago. He turned his head once more towards the blonde's direction, and became flabbergasted at the tear that had trickled down her cheek.
"I'm- I'm so sorry" cried Artemis as she quickly but gently reached across to wrap her hands around the little boy whose eyes still widen in surprise and shock.
"No-No one's ever cried for me before" he aid softly still embraced in her warm hug.
She pulled away and smiled while saying "Well I guess I'm the first then. Know that your lucky kid. I don't cry easily" and wiped away another tear.
"I know how it feels to loose family. Trust me I do. But to loose them in the way you did. I don't know if I could pull myself together. It's so...tragic."
Surprisingly the young pointy eared boy took Artemis's hand and gave her a look of gratitude.
"So how'd you end up here?" the archer asked after wiping away the liquid in her eyes.
"Well the men, they put us into small groups and trained us everyday from dawn till dusk to strengthen our powers. Eventually each of us were put into different quadrants. The one I was in, was paid by their leader to capture you two and your group. And here we are."
"Thank you. For telling me." said Artemis with grateful eyes. Cronus gave a curt nod.
"Well I don't know about you guys but I'm exhausted."
Natsu stared at the pair. After listening so intently to the conversation he also felt drained. Focusing for so long sure did take a lot out of him. The trio then trudged through the snow to the next town over, which thankfully, was much warmer than the icy terrain they were currently in.
(I know. I know. I prob should've included more description with the cold weather but in all honestly I completely forgot;)
