Chapter 8:
Farpoint Station

The Enterprise makes orbit of Farpoint Station. On the surface, the two crew members are ready to board the Enterprise. Captain Picard have been made aware of their identities.

The two new crew members are seen by Captain Picard one at a time.

"So, Mr. Riker, how's Alaska's weather? Still cold as winter, I assume?" "Cold as ice, if not colder, sir." Picard chuckled. "Well, I hope this new adventure is more to your tastes, as you acclimate yourself to the environment." "I'll be fine sir." Picard faced the window. "One other thing I want you to do for me, as a personal favor." Riker answered, "Anything." "You'll assume, I hope, that as you read my profile, which is your duty, that I'm not a family man. Starfleet has given me a ship wide and long enough to be filled with children onboard. I would appreciate it if you'd help me not to make an ass out of myself in front of those children." Picard turned again to Riker. "I may grow to appreciate them at a latter time; but for now, I need you to be in charge of that, if you would." "I'll do my best sir." "Thank you." Picard smiled. "And now, I extend my hand to you and welcome you aboard the Enterprise, Number One!" "Thank you, sir. It's good to be here." Riker said, "You did read that we are awaiting a CMO?" "Hm-hm, someone I've known since my Academy days. I will see to her interview and induction at a later time." Picard looked to Riker, "Was there anything else?" "No, sir."

"Would you bring Mr. LaForge in, please." "Aye, sir. I'll see you on the Bridge."

Picard gives a different speech to Geordi LaForge.

After an hour, Mr. Data makes an announcement. "Bridge to Captain, Station leader Groppler Zorn would like to meet us personally." "Acknowledged, Commander."

They meet Groppler Zorn and they are amazed of the stories about products and items appearing just as the shoppers in the courtyard wanted, out of thin air.

The third and final officer to board meets her captain.

Picard looks behind his shoulder and sees the CMO. "Good lord." The CMO says, "Permission to come aboard, Captain." "Granted, Doctor." The CMO steps out of the turbolift. "If you don't mind, Captain, my son has accompanied me. He wanted to see the Bridge." "Your son?" She nodded. "Very well. What's his name?" "Wesley. You've met him before-" Picard of course remembered his friend Jack Crusher who had died in the line of duty before the Battle of Maxia. "Yes, of course." Jean-Luc looks back at the turbolift. "Wesley, you can come off the lift." Wesley, 14 years old, looks around. He approached the captain. Picard put his hand on Wesley's shoulder. "I knew your father, Wesley." "My mom has told me stories, sir." "Hm, I hope not the ones that would give the children like you nightmares." "No, sir." Picard nodded. "Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Enterprise's CMO, Dr. Beverley Crusher and her son, Wesley. We go back to my days as Captain of the Stargazer. She was married to one of my best Academy classmates, friends and a fine fellow officer, Lt. Jack Crusher, who will be missed by all. I ask that we all get to know them both, make them feel welcome aboard ship, and that everyone gets a physical examination completed before our next mission." Riker chimed in, "Here, here." Everyone else answered, "Aye sir." He introduced Riker, Troi, Worf, Data. "As you were." He looked to Beverly, "Dr., welcome aboard. It is good to see you and your son." Beverly responds, "Thank for that welcome, Captain. It's good to see you, too."

"Captain, we're getting a very strange reading on our sensors." "Doctor, if you'll get acquainted with Sickbay." She nodded and her and her son left the Bridge. "Analyze that reading and report. "
