"So, who's ready for ice cream?" I asked, more bounce in my step than I usually had when I walked up to Edward and Katie after class. It was so refreshing to feel happy after a class, instead of focusing on the pain, and I loved that this was the direction a few days of interactions with Edward Cullen had taken me. It felt like a real step in the right direction.
"Me! I am!" Katie exclaimed, and Edward and I shared a look of amusement at her excitement.
"Come on, kiddo. Let's go get in the car." He said, picking up her dance bag and leading the way out of the now-empty studio. It didn't take long to get to the ice cream shop. I got strawberry, Edward got chocolate, and Katie got vanilla in a cup with chocolate sauce and was busy getting it all over her face.
"Jennifer Newton tried to trip me today in class." She said, as out of the blue as children usually announced things, and my face scrunched up. I remembered Jennifer's parents from high school, and it didn't really surprise me.
"Really? I guess I'll have to speak to her Mommy at dance class, then." I said, holding my ice cream cone in one hand, licking a drip off the side quickly so it didn't get onto my hand.
"Do the kids usually do stuff like that?" Edward asked, chuckling softly.
"Eh, sometimes. They're kids. It happens. They have to learn it's not nice."
"Is it bad to wanna trip a four year old in defense of my little sister?" He asks before taking a direct bite out of his ice cream, making me wince.
"I mean… I see what you mean, but you shouldn't be tripping four year olds. Even in defense of your little sister. It's kind of like that viral video where the Dad is like, now we have beef with a girl named Brooklyn and her Dad. It's her Dad you should have beef with, and I happen to know her Dad. You could take him."
"I could take him? You wanna give me his number?"
"Ha! Maybe I will. I'd love to watch you try and take him down. He was annoying in high school, it might be funny to see."
"Then for you, I'll get it on video."
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I have no idea where this story is really going, but I hope you're liking it. It just kind of exists as a muse dump.
