Chapter 16: Blake

Blake stared down the being that had killed his mother and grit his teeth as rage began to boil from within. He wouldn't stand for it. He wouldn't stand for this...this thing hurting anyone else he cared about. Observer or not, it would pay.

The sickening feeling, that had become rather familiar, began to ooze through him.

"That thing looks strong," that damned voice echoed in his head. "Maybe you should leave and let it finish those weaklings on the floor. You'd do so much better without them."

No. He'd do a lot better without an annoying voice chiming in all the time.

"Well that was rather rude," the voice huffed. "I heard that you know."

He didn't care. All he cared about was the monster in front him. He'd deal with her later.

"Not if you die," the voice sighed. "But I see there's no changing your single mindedness now. Have fun being torn apart."

The sickening feeling faded.

"Blake Ryan," the observer announced. "You are an anomaly of this realm. You are no longer permitted to exist here. As such, you are sentenced to extermination."

Blake took in a deep breath and closed his eyes as recalled his master's words.

"Combat is about control," Integra had said. "If you can't control yourself, then you can never be in control of the outcome."

He focused the rage he felt within. Molded it. Forged it. Forged it into a vicious blade that would cut his enemy apart piece by piece.

He released his breath and opened his eyes.

He was ready.

"Hit me with your best shot," Blake glared.

The Observer grinned cruelly and red mana began to generate from its entire body, crackling and flowing power from each joint until it all collected at the center of its skeletal chest. When it had collected enough, the mana condensed into a single point on its chest cavity and rippled the world around it with devastating potential.

Any other time, Blake would have shook and staggered from the utter power the point had, but nothing but calm, deadly rage came from him. The world fell away until there was nothing but him and the Observer. Nothing else mattered in that moment, except for the utter destruction of his foe.

At once, a concentrated beam of mana was fired from the point on the creature's chest and arced its way towards Blake. The blast rippled and tore through space, seeming to rip the very fabric of reality.

The diviner looked at the beam and allowed himself a bit of concern.

"Huh," he hummed to himself. "That's a pretty good shot."

Blake could feel the heat from the blast before it was even close to him and knew that nothing but his best could stop the blast. And stopping the blast was his only choice. If he dodged, Rin and Ben, along with the entire pier, would be decimated in an instant. Possibly even a large portion of the city would be devastated as well.

So defense was his only option.

The diviner drew his card.

"Oh father of the seal, grant me your strength, and protect all from harm!" He chanted. "Face Series: Father of Pentacles!"

A large, glowing white circle with a black pentagram materialized in front of the entire pier and met the blast head on. Blake staggered under the force and the shield began to crack as the planks of the pier crunched under his feet.

He couldn't hold it forever, but he had to hold it long enough.

"Oh great spirits of arcana," Blake chanted as a card slid from his deck of its own accord. "Allow me the power to strengthen my wall and defend those I care for. Mastered Arcana: Strength!"

Blake's pentacle father began to glow more brilliantly and some of the cracks mended. But it was only a short term fix. Soon the cracks reformed and his shield began to cave in.

"Not... today..." Blake groaned under the strain.

The Observer growled and put a final push on his blast.

The blast shattered the pentacle and sent Blake flying backwards, breaking a few planks in the pier as he slid along the ground.

The blast had only been enough to break his shield...

His most powerful shield...

"Definitely a good shot..." Blake groaned as he rose to his feet. His body ached and his arm was numb. "But you'll have to do better than that."

"Resistance is futile, Blake Ryan," the observer echoed in his head. "Submit now, and your death, along with the other two, shall be quick and painless."

The Observer wasn't floating as well he had been after it's blast. In fact it had sunk towards the frothy waves of the bay a little bit more.

Had its attack drained it? There was no way.

That's when he noticed it. Observers normally carried around weapons. Weapons that helped them generate more mana to keep up with how fast they burned through it. In fact, it had had a spear when he saw it from the World Room. Where was that spear?

The realization hit, and Blake looked back at Ben and Rin and smiled.

"I'd say the same," Blake laughed humorlessly as he turned back towards the Observer. "But your death will be anything but quick and painless."

The Observer took on a confused look, if skeletal faces could do so. "You seem to misunderstand your position, Blake Ryan. We were created to dispose of anomalies like yourself. You have no chance of survival."

Blake grit his teeth. The image of his mom's face flashing through his mind.

"No, I think you are the one who misunderstands their position," Blake retorted in irritation. "You killed my mother, and attempted to kill my best friend and the woman I love. There is no ending in which you come out on top. You lost your chance to defeat me the second Charlotte Ryan's life ended."

If skeletons could look angry, this one looked furious. His speech must have struck a nerve.

"I grow weary of your nonsense," the creature sighed. "Face your destruction."

The Observer charged another blast and fired it. The diviner could tell it wasn't as powerful as his first. The world didn't seem to warp around this one, and the heat wasn't as intense on his face.

Blake smirked and drew another card.

"Oh spirit of arcana," he chanted. "Hear me and obey, take in my enemy's power and allow it to become a sword that shall thwart all foes. Mastered Arcana: The Magician!"

The blast shot towards Blake, but he was ready this time. An arcane circle appeared in front of the diviner and intercepted the blast. Not only that, but as the blast continued to hit, it didn't seem to spread from the contact point. No. Instead, the blast appeared to be going directly into the arcane circle.

The Observer raged, and put more power into his attack, but it was no use. The beam merely continued to be absorbed into the circle all the same.

Finally, the blast stopped and the observer sank lower in the sky. His mana supply was getting low.

"What have you done, Blake Ryan?!" The creature screeched.

"I'm about to send a message out to the rest of the world," Blake said in a deathly cold tone.

The arcane circle flipped so that it was facing up and sank down over the diviner, resting on the ground around his feet.

"If anyone touches, or worse, hurts, anyone I care about, there will be hell to pay."

Red mana shot up from the circle in electrical streaks and Blake almost collapsed from the pain. The power he had absorbed into the circle had been incredible. If he didn't end this now, he probably wouldn't be able to end this all.

"Foreign mana reorientation: start," Blake grimaced through the red lightning raviging his body.

The Observer began to laugh. "What? You intend to use my mana as your own?! Your body cannot contain that amount of power! You truly are a fool!"

Blake ignored it. "Retrain elemental affinities." The color of the mana touching him, began to change into black and white streaks. "Extract generated magical code. Reintegrate." All of the red mana finally became coated in Blake's own mana, and the pain faded.

"Consume."

The mana began to flow into his body freely until white energy began to glow from his skin and deep black shadows began to grow around him.

"I won't let you!" The Observer cried out as it began to charge another blast.

"Mana absorption," Blake announced as he stared the Observer in his eye-sockets. "Complete."

The aura around him died for a moment into complete silence, and then black and white electricity began to explode and arc from all over his body, and when he opened his eyes, one raged with white electricity, while the other screeched with black.

"DIE!!!" The Observer raged as it fired off its third shot.

The end of the pier exploded, but didn't reach any further.

The Observer looked around, it couldn't sense Blake Ryan anymore. The only thing it could sense was the remaining traces of its own mana. Had it wiped out the diviner?

It chuckled. Of course it had. Had there ever been any doubt. It was created to destroy things like him.

"Celebrating a little soon there, aren'tchya?" A voice came from above him.

"No..." it whispered. "That's impossible."

A card floated in front of the diviner.

"Oh Greater Arcana," he chanted. "Allow me to judge my enemy's sins and strike them down for their transgression. Annihilate everything in their being that is evil and leave nothing behind. I call forth the Mastered Arcana! Judgement!"

Clouds began to gather above the diviner as he raised both of his hands into the air. From the twisted clouds, a gigantic arc of white and black lightning danced like two dragons fighting throughout the skies.

For the first time, the Observer displayed a look of utter shock and horror. And as Blake brought his hands down, the twin dragons of black and white lightning swooped down upon their prey. Consuming it for everything it was worth.

The Observer screeched in agony as its body crumbled and its very existence was completely and utterly annihilated from reality.

Blake felt his vision blur as he crashed down to earth, landing on the edge of the busted pier. The landing should have caused him unimaginable pain, but he had used up so much power that he could barely feel anything.

His mana had been completely used up, but he had won. He had protected those he cared for and lived to tell the tale.

The diviner struggled to his feet and placed his hood back over his head as he began to look back to Rin and Ben. He could rest easy now.

It was ov-

As he turned, a blast of magic caught Blake in his chest and sent him crashing onto his back.

That attack... It was h-

"So I finally found you," an angry and familiar voice said from further down the pier. "You bastard."

Blake looked up to see two beautiful turquoise eyes glaring down at him. He was speechless.

"Now you're going tell me. What did you do with Blake?" Rin Tohsaka growled.

A/N: Face to face with the woman he loves, what will Blake do? Faced with the diviner that she's been looking for, what will Rin do? Unconscious on the ground of the pier, what will Ben do? Find out next time! And as always, please leave a review and let me know what you think. I've been excited to post this specific chapter, but I have been super busy. I hope it came out alright and I hope you all enjoyed it. Thank you for reading and I hope you had a wonderful day!
