Here's a brief list of the major canonical information that was released after the ending, without placement in the stories. Most came from questions answered by the original author, Greg Farshtey.
- There was a voting contest where fans could try to guess the identity of the hidden Great Being. Top picks were Helryx and Kapura, but Greg later canonized the answer as Velika.
- The purpose of the Red Star was mostly two-fold. It was a space station of its own. First, it acted as a companion celestial body, to aid the robot in take-off and landing propulsion and calculations. Second, it would teleport the bodies of beings who died in the Matoran Universe and repair them, then send them back on the principal that resources would be limited over 100,000 years, and it made sense to recycle the material. (This explains Mavrah's reappearance.) However, the teleportation device stopped working, and they could only bring bodies to the star, not send them back. The Kestora then began gruesomely dissecting and testing on individuals to see if one of them were the cause. The general feel can be summed up in a single phrase, when Greg said he liked the idea of "zombies on a space station." Some revived beings are mindless, and some operate fine, but in fear of the Kestora and other failed revivals. Turaga Lhikan is similarly revived in good health on the Red Star, along with many others. :)
- Artakha, Brutaka, Axonn, Helryx, Tuyet, Hafu, and Kapura manage to escape the fortress before it is destroyed by Velika. Unbeknownst to them, the Cursed Great Being escapes as well.
- The Matoran were at one point simple AI, but (unknown to everyone but himself) Velika was the one responsible for them developing actual sentience and consciousness.
- Angonce is currently trying to find a way to stop Marendar
- Metus is "reflecting on his past failures" and considering future actions (whether for good or evil is unknown)
- Raanu is part of a group of elders including the Turaga of Mata Nui to create a new social structure for Spherus Magna
- Ackar, Kiina, and Tahu are working to integrate Agori and Matoran societies
- Atakus and Perditus were actually secret agents loyal to Velika reporting to him the events on Bara Magna while Velika was in the Matoran Universe.
- Hydraxon, on Spherus Magna, has become a bounty hunter and helped establish a new Pit jail equivalent for criminals and evil-doers.
- The Toa Mahri were actually freed from the Golden Skinned Being's control during the confrontation with Annona.
- Lesovikk was defeated by Velika before the latter took the former's sword and used it to frame him for the murder of Karzahni.
- Lewa is taken back to the villagers' camp, where he discovers that they blamed the Great Beings' technology for the Shattering. He awed them with his elemental power, since it was not produced by a machine, and the villagers decided not to kill him immediately.
- Takanuva's destiny was for him to play a crucial role in a civil war between the Great Beings.
- The Dark Hunter codenamed Dweller escaped Order of Mata Nui custody during the Reign of Shadows and the Battle of Bara Magna.
- After Teridax was killed in the Battle of Bara Magna, the Shadowed One survived the incident (and strange damage on Xia) and immigrated to Spherus Magna. He began forming a new army around the remnants of the Dark Hunters, including Bone Hunters, Skrall, and others. He still has the viruses he had planned to use against Teridax.
- Voporak was last seen taking the Kanohi Vahi from the Coliseum during the Order of Mata Nui / Brotherhood of Makuta War. (Enough time has passed it is reasonable to assume the mask is in the hands of the Dark Hunters and returned to the Shadowed One, but this has not been confirmed.)
- Nektann has been successfully imprisoned on Spherus Magna.
Now, you know appreciably everything you should for BIONICLE's ending. Thank you to everyone for reading so far. Direct your friends here, whether they knew the story, or if they've never heard of BIONICLE before. It's a cool story. So now...
What's next?
If you read my bio, then you already know: the next goal is to continue into fanfiction and write an appropriate, long, complicated, fulfilling ending to BIONICLE. Just for organizational purposes, I'll post another story as a placeholder to continue the explanation. But I'll be gladly accepting any ideas or requests you have to put in the ending. I'll describe the project more in that story, but keep my words brief here for those who may not be interested.
