PAUL'S POV

Great. First we've got the red head running rampant all over Forks and La Push, and now we have to deal with a battle against some sort of army of newborn vampires.

I was really hoping this summer would consist of us finally killing off the red head and spending the rest of our summer on the beach with Y/N as close to me as possible to keep warm as the sun goes down, and hanging out at Sam and Emily's with the pack. But, it looks like our days of vampire chasing were only getting started.

My mind was scattering thoughts left and right- Who's leading the newborn army? How can I keep Y/N safe? Could we win?

I had been silent practically the entire ride home aside from the few side huffs I made thinking about sinking my teeth into some bloodsuckers. My Jeep came to a stop in front of Y/N's house, but I continued in my thoughts, not noticing Y/N staring directly at me.

"You knew that Chaz was a vampire." I managed to break away from my thoughts after hearing her sweet, but frightened voice. I could tell in her eyes that she was scared, and from the many stories and legends I had told her about the soulless leeches, she had every right to be.

"Don't worry, Y/N. I'll never let anything happen to you," I grabbed her hand, giving it a tight, but gentle squeeze, "Besides, as much as I despise the leech, he's harmless, according to Sam. And, he knows better than to break the treaty by hurting a human."

"Treaty? What treaty?" I explained to Y/N about the Quillette's and the Cullen's treaty and how the Cullen's only hunted animals rather than humans, which made the treaty possible.

"How does Chaz fit in to all of that? Is he a Cullen?"

"At one point, yes. When the Cullen's first moved to town, Chaz lived with them. I think Edward said that they had taken him after passing through Alaska on their way here after discovering that he was alone. At some point, Chaz decided to leave the comfort of the Cullen's home, and decided to move to La Push to get away from them. Sam has ordered us to bring him no harm, but I'm not convinced he's as great as everyone thinks." Y/N looked focused as she tried to process the information.

"Wow, this is a lot to process. Well, what happened at the Cullen's? Does it have to do with Chaz?" I knew now was not a good time to overwhelm Y/N with news of the newborn army, so I lied.

"Not at all. Alice is the weird one of the Cullen family, don't mind her. But, what we should pay mind to is the time. It's getting late Y/N. You should probably get inside before your grandpa kills me."

READER POV

I barely slept last night after Paul took me home. I couldn't get the thought of Chaz being a vampire out of my head, and I couldn't help but feel like Paul was lying to me about whatever was going on with Alice, but I trusted that he would tell me whatever I needed to know, and I didn't push for more of an explanation.

I headed over to Emily's like I had done every Saturday to go hangout for the day until the end of Paul's shift. As I turned in to the gravel driveway, I could see the pack all huddled together in a circle, as if they were having some sort of meeting.

Weird, I thought. Usually their meetings are inside, but Emily has been known to kick them out for being too rowdy on some occasions. Paul and I locked eyes as I stepped out of my car and he made his way over to me as the pack continued to talk amongst themselves.

"Y/N, what are you doing here?" He asked.

"What do you mean? I'm always here on Saturdays. Is something going on?" I tried to look around his broad shoulders to get a glimpse of what the pack was doing, with no success.

"I texted you this morning to tell you I'd be out all day on my shift. Where's your phone?" Come to think of it, I hadn't seen my phone since last night at the party, but I hadn't paid much attention to it after learning all about Chaz being a vampire.

"No, I guess I didn't see it. But, you haven't answered my question. What's going on? And, why are you going to be out all day? Aren't there enough of you to trade off?" Paul's gaze suddenly darted off to the top of the driveway as another car pulled in behind mine. I heard a slight growl come from Paul, as he and the rest of the pack moved toward the unknown vehicle.

"Y/N, get back." Sam commanded as he stepped in front of me, blocking my view of the driver who was slowly getting out of the vehicle. Emily's driveway was outlined with scattered smaller sized boulders that were tall enough for me to stand on and get a good look over the tall pack members. I moved to the nearest boulder to the right just in time to see Chaz shut his car door and lean up against the side of the hood. The scene was tense with the pack growling at Chaz, still in their human forms, but he didn't react nor flinch in their presence.

"Come on now boys, why can't we all just get along? I've done nothing to go against the treaty, I'm simply here to offer my assistance in the fight against the newborns. I would've thought you wolves would be grateful, but-"

"WE DON'T NEED YOUR HELP, LEECH!" Paul snarled.

Newborn army? What was Chaz talking about? Obviously Paul knew by the sound of his response. Was this what was going on with Alice last night?

"Help how?" Sam asked. He was seemingly calm, but assertive in his question, and I could see Paul shoot him a look as if he had just sold his soul to the devil.

"You can't be serious Sam!" Paul snapped.

"Let him talk, Paul." Sam commanded again. "Help how, Chaz?" He asked again.

"Thank you, Sam. So glad there's at least one reasonable mut around here."

"Don't push your luck" Jacob threatened. Chaz gave him a quick glance and let out a snicker before continuing.

"Well, we all know I'm no longer part of the Cullen clan, nor will I help them fight to save that human danger magnet. I can, however, be of service to you all." Chaz looked up to meet my gaze, but I quickly broke contact, looking downward at the gravel. He went on-

"Since the field you'll be fighting on is not too far away from here, you'll need someone to be here who can actually protect your…precious cargo, should I say?"

"Not a chance in hell." Paul spoke through gritted teeth, now only inches away from where Chaz was standing. "If anyone is going to protect Y/N, it'll be me."

"Fine, suit yourself, but it's not only YOUR imprint at risk. Sam? Emily couldn't fight off a hungry newborn, could she? I mean, look what you've done to her yourself." I instantly saw Sam's face drop as Chaz mentioned the large scars on Emily's face. It was all an accident when Sam had lost his temper for just a moment. Emily told me that he constantly beat himself up over what he had done, even though she had forgiven him.

"And Jared," Chaz pressed on, "Kim will most likely be here, waiting for you to come back safely. But, what if something terrible happens to her while you're out fighting? And, her parents would know that she came here to be with you, which means, you're responsible for her well-being. You wouldn't want to explain to them how she got harmed on your watch, now, would you?" I could see the features on Jared's face soften for his imprint.

"Fine." I turned my attention away from Jared's face, to see Sam reaching his hand out toward Chaz as they shook hands to seal the agreement. Paul's face was intensely livid and in shock.

"It was nice working with you gentlemen. I'll be in touch." Chaz settled himself back into his car and effortlessly backed out of the driveway.

"ARE YOU CRAZY, SAM?! THAT BLOODSUCKER CAN'T BE TRUSTED, AND YOU'RE JUST GOING TO WILLINGLY LEAVE HIM HERE WITH YOUR IMPRINT?" I could see Paul visibly shaking, and I worried that he would shift before I could get an explanation of what was going on.

"Paul, you know he's right, and if you were smart, you would let someone who can protect her be here with her while you're gone. As much as you'd like to think you can, you CAN'T be everywhere, Paul. Do what's right for Y/N." Paul's hardened eyes seemed to lose their anger as he came to the realization that Sam was right.

"Let's go! We're going to be late." Sam motioned for the Pack to follow as they shifted and headed off toward the woods, leaving Paul behind.

I stepped off the boulder and cautiously made my way over to Paul, unsure if he was still a ticking time bomb of anger. His eyes met mine, and I didn't have to say a word. He knew what I wanted to know.

"Y/N, I'll explain everything later, but I have to go. Stay here with Emily and Kim, please. And, find your phone." He pulled me into his chest, and gently kissed my forehead before releasing me from his grip and following behind the trail of the pack.

Part of me wanted to text Chaz to find out everything now, but I still had no success in finding my phone. After what seemed like forever, the pack finally shuffled into Emily's with exhausted looks on their faces. The lack of energy and fun I had grown to love about the pack was no longer present. There was worry and an overwhelming feeling of fear in the air.

I didn't give Paul even a second of relaxation when he walked through the door. I put my hands on his chest and pushed him back out to the front porch, ready for some answers.

We walked down toward the beach, and Paul took a seat on a large log, pulling me down beside him before he began-

"There's a newborn vampire army being led by the red head we've been chasing for months. She's after Bella because Edward killed the red heads mate, and the witch can't get over it. And, thanks to Jacob's stupid crush on the girl, we're signed up to help. I would've told you everything last night, but I didn't want to overwhelm you after everything else. It's going to be tough, but not as difficult as leaving you with that filthy leech." I placed my hand on Paul's shoulder to help sooth him from getting overly worked up. He placed his hand on top of mine and gave me a small smile. "We had a training today with the Cullen's, and I think we're ready. But, if anything happens-"

"Paul, no. Don't-" He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me in closer. I didn't want to think about anything bad happening to Paul. I wouldn't know what to do with myself. We had talked so many times about our future- marriage, a home, traveling…children. I didn't want that fantasy in my mind to disappear, and I would do whatever it took to make sure Paul would come home to me after the battle. We sat in silence for a while before deciding to head back up to Emily's.

PAUL'S POV

It was the morning of the battle, and the pack and I arrived early to the battlefield, and were in position, ready to attack once the signal was given. Y/N was still asleep on Emily's couch when I had left, and I was determined to come back to her sweet and beautiful face at the end of all this. I was worried about leaving her with Chaz, but I needed to focus. The quicker we finished here, the quicker I could be back with her.

The battle was beginning. Once the field was full of bloodsuckers, Sam gave the signal-

NOW!

I immediately snapped a brown-haired leech heading directly for one of the Cullen's, and tossed him to the side, ready to finish off more. I was on a rampage. All I could imagine was Y/N and our future together. How could that happen if we lost? Simple. We wouldn't lose.

The battle was over as quickly as it had started, and we had received word from Seth that Edward had finished off the red head and that he and Bella were heading back down from the mountain with Seth heading back to the reservation. Alice looked panicked as she began having another vision. "They're coming! The Volturi!" she shouted. All we knew about the Volturi was that they were the most feared of vampires, and judgment makers. They had heard about the battle and were on their way to see what all the commotion was about. We had to leave.

Within moments, Bella and Edward had arrived, and stood alongside the other Cullen's, preparing for the Volturi's arrival.

"Jacob, NO!" Bella screamed. I darted my wolf gaze to where her eyes were glued as Jacob leaped toward a leech we missed in battle as he tried to secure his arms around Leah's neck. In an instant, the leech grabbed Jake and crushed his ribs, resulting in a loud cry from Jake as he shifted back to his human form. Carlisle hurried over to assess the damage, and I shifted back into my human form, throwing on a pair of shorts tucked away in the woods.

"We'll take him back to Billy's" Sam state.

"I'll be over as soon as I can," Carlisle responded. We carefully lifted Jake off the ground and headed back to the reservation while the Cullen's dealt with the Volturi.

"We got cha" I comforted.

We made it to Billy's, and brought Jake into the home and laid him down on his bed. His painful cries indicated the immense amount of pain he was in, and it hurt me to see my brother hurt.

"PAUL! PAUL! WHERE'S PAUL?!" My attention was pulled away at the shouting of my name from Kim. What was she doing here? I headed back outside to see Kim, with tears running down her cheeks and her face almost pale white like she had seen a ghost.

"Kim? What's wrong?!" I grabbed her by her shoulders to try and steady her as she almost fell from exhaustion.

"It's…it's Y/N! Chaz..he…he took her! Emily tried to go after him, but he was so…..so….fast." Her tears and breathing were uncontrollable even as Jared tried to comfort her.

"No…"I whispered. I knew he couldn't be trusted, and…Sam. This was all his fault!

"YOU!" I set my daggered eyes on Sam as I approached him, seething with anger.

"PAUL! YOU NEED TO DIRECT YOUR ANGER TO CHAZ! FOCUS! WE NEED TO GO BEFORE Y/N GETS HURT!"

"WE?! NO! I DON'T NEED YOU! I'M GOING ON MY OWN. I KNEW I SHOULDN'T HAVE TRUSTED HIM WITH MY IMPRINT. IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO HER, I SWEAR -" My body suddenly snapped back as I began to shift. I snarled the loudest I had ever done before turning my back on the pack and heading for the only place I knew he might take her.

The woods.
