Kombat Komes to Beacon
Chap 10: Trip down memory lane and new perspectives Part 2
Coming from Remnant, we had hoped that it would be a relatively simple fix. But we knew that, given our luck, would not be the case. Once the portal was set up, it showed that we would be going to Outworld. Not our preferred pace to go to but was welcomed none the less as it still allowed us to get to our universe. My team, Team RWBY, Glynda, Ironwood and Winter all came with us. We didn't want them to come but had no choice as we owed them and this was what they wanted in exchange for their help. Now they are with us when we stepped through the portal. But we did not go to Outworld. Instead, we ended up in Edenia. More specifically the southlands where Armageddon occurred. And for some reason, the sands of time rewind and showed us the battle again. It was rough having to watch the fight again. It was not a pleasant memory. And I can tell the others were horrified and possibly traumatized after seeing it. Once the fight was over and everything returned to how it was, we continued towards the border of the southlands where a portal was that could lead us to Earthrealm. But it didn't.
"OUCH!" Yang screamed again as we exited the portal.
"You okay Yang?" I asked with a chuckle.
"Very funny Vomit Boy." She said as she rubbered her arms as she got back to her feet. This just got me and the kombatants to laugh even more. She growled when she heard us laughing which caused us to laugh even more still with Jax and Johhny bending over and with Kano on the floor laughing.
"So, where are we this time Jaune?" Glynda asked as she looked around. Looking around, we were in a space that seemed like a hallway in a sense. Really, it was just a giant pathway with giant walls on each of our sides. In one direction, it just led further down the pathway with a turn leading to somewhere. But on the other side told us where we were. It was one of the many buildings on Shang Tsung's island.
"Shang Tsung's island apparently. But something does not seem right." Raiden answered.
"What do you mean?" Winter asked.
"Everything is intact and the sun is actually shinning. The last time I saw this place, it was in ruins and cloudy and basically destroyed." I explained to her before starting to move forward towards the building close to us. "Let's go check the building. Maybe we will get a clue to what is happening."
The kombatants followed me while the others followed shortly after. They seemed a bit nervous after witnessing the Battle of Armageddon first hand. But who could blame them honestly? In Remnant, there was a lot of fighting obviously. But the academies didn't teach the ugly side of what being a huntsmen/huntress and fighting means. Having to kill and put others down and how bloody it can get. A perfect example of this is with Ruby and Beacon academy. She still thinks huntsmen are hero's that never kill and never hurt and are always standing atop a pile of knocked out bad guys with a light shining behind them when it really isn't that. And now add the fact that they just saw fighting that was extremely bloody with people killing each other in horrific ways with my past self being killed lastly by being ripped in half. It is no wonder why they are hesitant. However, we have to find out what is going on so we can't stop. Soon we reached the building and looked in. Once we saw what was inside, we immediately knew why everything seemed off and different.
"What's happening this time Jaune?" Pyrrha asked as she looked inside and saw more people fighting with an old man in robes sitting on a throne in the back with two guards with spears near him. But before I could answer, the voice that was present when we saw the battle of Armageddon spoke up again.
'A battle raged at the end of the first tournament. The forces of Earthrealm were facing their greatest challenge... MORTAL KOMBAT!' The voice said as the people inside continued fighting. The ones inside were Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Kano, Sonya, Johhny Cage, Reptile and Liu Kang.
"This was one of the first tournaments of Outworld vs Earthrealm. But this was not a regular tournament as it was corrupted by Shang Tsung to shift the odds against Earthrealm. And all hell broke loose when this was discovered. Though there was another reason why Shang Tsung corrupted the tournament other than to shift the odds. It was to get revenge on Liu Kang. And as for the fighting, they are fighting their rivals." I told her.
"Well, that explains what's happening. But you guys said something is off. Do you know what it is?" Ironwood asked.
"That is the problem. This is one of the first tournaments. Meaning that the portal not only sent us here to Shang Tsung's island, but also back in time to where the island was not destroyed and the tournament had just collapsed into chaos and everybody started fighting each other." I answer him as the fighting continued.
"Wait, how can we be back in time?" Weiss asked stumped at the prospect of basically time travelling.
"Honestly, it's not the most farfetched thing Weiss. Past and present have collided before. Not to mention the fact that the sands of time showed us the battle of Armageddon again. So, time travel through an unstable portal can be considered a possibility." I explained to her. Well, in reality, I am just bullshitting her. I don't know how we ended back in time.
"Hey Jaune?" Ruby asked.
"Yes Ruby?"
"I recognize most of them despite them wearing different clothes but who is the blond lady and old guy on the throne. Plus, what is the green creature fighting Johhny?" She asked.
"The blond lady is Sonya Blade. She is the commander of the special forces and one of the champions of the forces of Earthrealm. However, because we are back in time, she is not yet commander of the special forces as that organization was not created yet. The green creature is Reptile. He is a saurian which basically is humanoid reptile creatures. They were native to Earthrealm a long time ago before migrating to the realm Zaterra to escape a war. But they were soon conquered and driven to near extinction with Reptile being one of the few who survived. He then pledged allegiance to Shao Kahn for a long time before changing to Kotal Kahn after Shao Kahn was defeated. And lastly is the man on the throne. That is Shang Tsung. He is one of our deadliest adversaries as he can shape shift into any other Kombatant and use their abilities. Don't be fooled by his appearance as looks can be deceiving." I answered her. She simply nodded before returning to watch the fighting that was happening.
Sub-Zero and Scorpion were fighting each other again with the former freezing the later before freeing him with a kick to the chest that pushed Scorpion away. Sub-Zero was about to continue his attacks but was punched away by Kano and then got kicked further back by Scorpion. Kano was about to help out but was intercepted by Sonya who delivered a jump kick to him hitting him in the chest. They then started to fight with Sonya launching a few punches followed by a kick to Kano but all were blocked by him. He then landed a double punch to her in the gut which winded her a bit. She then tried to strike him again but was blocked and then tossed over his shoulder landing hard on the floor. Johhny then decided to help out and called out Kano getting his attention. Johhny tried to kick him but was blocked but then ducked under Kano's attack and proceeded to do a flip kick on him which landed and sent him stumbling back a bit with Sonya getting up and delivering a spinning jump kick to him sending Kano to the floor. Johhny then got cocky and put on his glasses trying to impress Sonya. But was taken by surprise when a tongue wrapped around his neck choking him and bringing him back to its owner who happened to be Reptile. Once close enough, Reptile then unwrapped his tongue and proceeded to try and eat his head. But was interrupted when Liu Kang kicked him in the back freeing Johhny and sending Reptile to the floor.
'Liu Kang.' The past Shang Tsung said with venom in his voice. Liu then proceeded to taunt him with his hand. This pissed Shang Tsung who then gave a command to his guards to attack Liu Kang. They ran up to him where the first one basically pole vaulted and tried to slam his spear onto Liu Kang but he side stepped, and evaded the attack and countered with an uppercut sending the guard a couple of feet away. The other guard then charged at Liu Kang hoping to stab him with his spear. But Liu Kang ran up and jumped onto the spear and performed his bicycle kick on the guard before delivering one final kick sending the guard onto Shang Tsung. He knocked the unconscious guard away and slamming his fists on the throne before jumping and extending his leg to try and kick Liu Kang but failed as Liu countered with his own flying kick sending Shang Tsung to the floor with blood coming out of his mouth. Once they were on the floor, the both started attacking each other with Shang Tsung getting the upper hand with a punch to the face that sent Liu Kang reeling back to a pillar. He kept this up by sending a fireball at him but Liu cartwheeled away to avoid it. Shang Tsung then transformed into Kano and launched himself at Liu in ball form. He successfully hit Liu sending him onto his back on the floor a few feet away. Shang Tsung then transformed back into himself and jumped onto Liu Kang and then tried to steal his soul. But was interrupted when another guard kicked him away. We then heard some growling coming from behind us. Turning around we saw two tarkatans coming our way.
"What are those Jaune?" Pyrrha asked.
"Tarkatans. A species native to Outworld. They are most known for their deadly blades that reside in their arms and sharp teeth which complement their ferocious fighting style." I answer her.
"Shouldn't we do something then since they are coming out way?" Weiss asked. But was answered when the guard threw a hat that was on his back at the two tarkatans which sliced off the head of one of them. The other then extended his blades while ducking as the hat returned to the guard who quickly undressed as the hat returned to him to reveal it was Kung Lao in disguise.
'Kung Lao' The voice said as Kung Lao teleported behind Baraka and proceeded to deliver three punches and one final kick to knock him away. But Scorpion, seeing an opening, went to the Kung lao to attack him. He first threw two punches but were blocked but then flame flip kicked Kung Lao sending him to the floor and landed in front of Sub-Zero. He then tried to attack Sub-Zero again but was blocked and kicked away. Sub-Zero then grabbed the spear of an attacking guard before taking it away from him and slamming it on the head of the guard. He then grabbed the guard and jabbed his hand into the guard's body and proceeded to rip his spine out with the skull still attached. Sub-Zero then turned around and slammed the skull into a charging Scorpion making him fly back and land near Shang Tsung and Liu Kang.
"OH MY GOD!" Winter gasped as she saw Sub-Zero rip out the guard's spine.
"Nice one Sub-Zero." Scorpion complimented him.
"Thanks Scorpion." Sub-Zero responded with.
"HOW CAN YOU ALL BE SO CALM ABOUT THAT! HE JUST RIPPED OUT THAT MANS SPINE AND USED IT AS A WEAPON! Weiss screamed in horror.
"Simple Weiss. One: We are used to it. And Second: it's Mortal Kombat. It's either us or them." I answered her calmly though she did look green again.
We turned back to watch the rest of the fight and saw Liu Kang fighting Shang Tsung with the former blocking all the attacks before kicking the later away. Shang Tsung than transformed into Scorpion and launched the kunai at Liu Kang and pulled him close before delivering an uppercut to him. He then took off his mask and tried to burn Liu Kang by spewing fire from his mouth but failed to hit him as Liu Kang back flipped away to avoid the flames.
"I honestly never knew you had a skeleton for a face when you were a specter Scorpion. I always thought you had a regular face with the exception of pupiless eyes." Sindel said.
"I preferred to keep it hidden as it was a constant reminder of the monster I had become. So not many people knew that except when I took it off to burn them but that was rare when I did that. And I did have a normal face like you just describe when I was a specter but that only happens on certain occasion." Scorpion corrected her.
"Wait, so you were a demon at one point." Yang asked only to be elbowed in the ribs by Blake.
"Yang, that was insensitive." Blake hissed.
"Yes, I was. It was not a pleasant time and I have done many things I am not proud off. Let's leave it at that." Scorpion answered her in a regretful voice.
"You may have done horrible things in the past Scorpion but you have long since redeemed yourself." Sub-Zero said as he places his hand on his shoulder. Scorpion nodded in thanks before we turned our attention back to the fighting. Though from the corner of my eye, I saw Sindel step closer to Scorpion and hold his hand. I am not sure if I am seeing things so I didn't say anything about it.
Inside, the forces of Earthrealm were winning the fight. Liu Kang was evading some attacks from Shang Tsung before attacking him with some punches that were so strong that with each hit, Shang Tsung transformed into other kombatants before transforming back to himself after one last hit from him. Liu Kang then ran and performed his fly kick on him which sent Shang Tsung flying and going through a pillar. On the floor groaning in pain, Shang Tsung then moaned as he motioned towards a nearby door. A split second later, loud footsteps were heard before four pairs of three giant fingers came out and grabbed onto the door frame. And a second later, it was revealed that those fingers belonged to Goro. He stepped forward a bit before letting out a mighty battle roar and charge forward.
"What is that creature Jaune? It seems similar to that giant cat like one we saw previously at the battle with the pyramid." Blake asked.
"That is Prince Goro. He is a shokan. And yes, that cat like creature, whose name is Kintaro, is of the same race. Shokan are known for their immense strength, durability and love for fighting. They are also not that smart. And if you think they are slow then you are dead wrong. They may be big and heavy but they are not slow and their attacks can be quite fast as well." I answered her.
"So, they are fast and extremely strong and durable. So, our only option is to outsmart them. Interesting." Ironwood said.
"Yeah no. With shokan, there is no outsmarting them as while they are not smart, they will most likely being trying to smash you to pieces and kill you so you won't get a chance to outsmart them. And you misunderstood what I meant about their speed. They are not fast as in running speed as they make up for that with their incredible jumping ability to close the distance. It's their attacks that are fast." I corrected him. He nodded in understanding as he turned back to the fight,
Goro had drawn the attention from all the kombatants representing Earthrealm. He charged at Liu Kang and tried to punch him with both of his left arms but missed and instead destroyed the pillar that was there as Liu Kang cartwheeled to avoid the attack. Sonya then charged at him and tried to kick him but was backhanded by Goro who turned around and slammed his left arms into her which made her hit the floor hard and nearly knocked her out. Goro then roared triumphantly before charging at the next kombatant which happened to be Sub-Zero and tried to squash him by jumping up and slamming to the ground. But failed to do so as Sub-Zero rolled out of the way just as Goro land and break the floor. Kung Lao then tried his luck but was sent flying across the room when Goro back handed him away. Johhny then ran up to Goro before doing his shadow kick and hit him. But it didn't faze Goro who then picked him up using his bottom arms. Johhny then shouted out in panic before Goro punched him the face a few times before grabbing Johhny's head and the slam him onto the ground and flinging him across the room. Goro then roared triumphantly again as all the forces of Earthrealm were defeated. While this was happening, Shang Tsung had gotten up and went near the wall where Goro came from and proceeded to chant an incantation and summoned a portal to Outworld. He then jumped into it with Goro right after with the rest going into the portal shortly after with the portal closing as soon as the last one entered. As soon as the portal closed, the whole place started shaking with the pillars crumbling.
"What's happening Jaune?" Pyrrha asked as she struggled to stay upright as everything started to shake. But I wasn't able to answer as lightning shot down and struck the floor inside the building as Raiden teleported there.
'Shang Tsung is destroying the island. Get out. We must return to the Wu Shi Academy.' Past Raiden said with urgency as he pointed towards the exit. The kombatants struggled to get to their feet and ran towards the exit but some fell through the cracks in the floor the appeared from the island being destroyed.
"That is what is happening. Raiden, open a portal now!" I yelled out so that Raiden can hear me over the sound of everything collapsing. Raiden nodded and electricity started circulating his body as he chanted a bit and quickly opened a portal to escape.
"Come on! Let's go!" I shouted as I picked Pyrrha up who lost her balance and fell to the ground and carried her through the portal with everyone else going into it a second later with the portal closing after everyone entered it.
"Ouch."
"Ooof."
"Damn."
Those were the sounds we made as the portal threw us out to safety. I hope at least. Better the getting squashed by falling rubble. Getting up, I dusted myself off before helping Pyrrha up. I then went and helped the others up as some of them were a little disoriented from going through the portal. A moment later and we were all up and looking around to see where we are.
"Well, that was something. Now where we are Jaune?" Glynda asked as she dusted herself off and checking on the teams.
"Cloudy sky. Feeling of doom and despair. Everything basically destroyed. Looks like we came back to the present, I think. But we are still on Shang Tsung's island. More specifically the courtyard." I answered her as I noticed that we were in the courtyard that was destroyed with the dead rotting bodies of the monks and guards scattered about. With the monk's bodies located where they would sit to spectate the fighting and the guards scattered all around,
"Wait. We are on the same island. I thought it was destroyed." Weiss said confused.
"Actually, Shang Tsung just destroyed all the buildings on the island but the island itself was not destroyed." I explained to her.
"Are we back to the present?" Winter asked.
"I think so-" I started to answer her but was interrupted by the sound of lightning in the sky and the sound of blood being splattered. We turned around to face the sound with the kombatants getting ready for a fight. But we saw made us realize we were not fully back to our time yet.
Two figures jumped into the air at each other. One with fire surrounding his body and the other with red lightning. They seemed like they were about to see who can hit each other first only for the one with red lightning get grabbed by the other and spun around and slammed into the ground as they fell from the air with the one who grabbed the other pulling out a sword and stabbing the person he just slammed into the ground before taking it out and moving back to create space between them. Soon the figure that was slammed into the ground got up and we were able to see who the two figures were. They were Scorpion and Dark Raiden.
"Crap. Look like we are not fully back to our time." I said annoyed.
"Greta Arc. How far back are we from the present time." Weiss asked impatiently.
"Judging from the fight. At least two decades from our time." Kotal Kahn answered her.
"Great. So, who is fighting this time?" Winter asked.
"Dark Raiden and Scorpion." I said to her.
"Dark Raiden? Why is he called Dark Raiden? Because of his dark apparel?" Yang asked.
"No. Not because of his dark apparel. He is called that because he became corrupted and his ways changed from friendly to extreme. Lashing out at all who he deems threats to Earthrealm. Even willing to strike down his closest friends and allies without hesitation if they don't do what he says or agree with him. And is also uncaring if any of his allies die or lose someone important to them." I explain to her.
"How did he become corrupted? And is this the only time he became like this?" Blake asked.
"He became corrupted a couple of times. The first time was when he sacrificed himself in an attempt to stop one of our more powerful enemies. But since he is a god, he just reformed later but due to the malevolent aura, and I am not talking about the aura you guys have, he was turned dark and corrupted. The second time was when he had to cleanse the Jinsei Chamber. Which is basically the lifeforce of Eathrealm to put it simply which was corrupted by another of our enemies. Raiden managed to cleanse it but in turn was corrupted himself. The third time was only brief and was due to an evil amulet and his anger getting the best of him but also due to the influence of another powerful being." I answered her.
"Is there any way to reverse the corruption?" Ironwood asked.
"No unfortunately. The only time it was able to be reversed was that one brief time he became corrupted. And that was only because during a fight, memories were unlocked that helped Raiden see that he was being manipulated and put down the amulet that was corrupting him. But outside of that, it is permanent." I said sadly. Raiden is basically my grandfather and it did pain me to see him a shell of his former self when he became corrupted. The others said nothing as they realized they crossed a line. Instead, we turned back to the fight.
Dark Raiden had gotten back up and red lightning around his body and growled. He then flew at Scorpion and successfully hit but did not stop and continued to fly with Scorpion and only stopped when he slammed Scorpion into a nearby pillar. Getting up, Scorpion the tried to hit Raiden with a flame punch followed by a regular punch but both were blocked. Through he did not stop and managed to land a third punch on him followed by a fourth. Raiden then counter with his own punch but was blocked so he then delivered a knee to the gut of Scorpion winding him before grabbing his hand slamming it onto his knee. Raiden then balled both of his fists and slammed them down onto Scorpion bringing him to his knees. Scorpion quickly got back up but was then stabbed through the chest by the spear Raiden picked up and then kicked off the spear. Raiden then discarded the spear and stepped to the side to avoid the jump kick Scorpion sent his way. He then ducked under a swing from Scorpion's arm but failed to avoid the kunai stabbing him in the gut that was followed by two punches afterwards. He did manage to block the third one and land his own punch which dazed Scorpion allowing Raiden to attack him once more. Scorpion then pulled out one of his swords and slice Raiden vertically twice. He then quickly put the sword away before shoving both of his kunais into Raiden's eyes and then kicking him before violently pulling him back using the chains attached to kunais and kicking the kunai making them go deeper into Raiden's head. Scorpion the quickly grabbed Raiden and turned him around while pining his arm to the back as well. He then stabbed his kunai into Raiden's stomach then back and finally chest turning him around as well. Scorpion then tried to take out his sword but was too slow as Raiden summoned his staff and spun around a few times hitting Scorpion with the staff four times before he stopped spinning and delivered one final strike at him which broke the mask he was wearing while also causing Scorpion to spit out some blood as well and send him the floor. He tried to get back up but was sent flying back into the same pillar he was slammed into earlier when Raiden delivered a powerful kick to his chest. Raiden then teleported over to Scorpion and roughly pulled him to his feet where Scorpion tried to punch him. But Raiden grabbed his fist and twisted it into a painful position before kicking him in the knee causing Scorpion to go down to one leg. Raiden did not let up and continued to punch and kick Scorpion into the pillar with one final kick causing his chest to cave in. Deciding it was time to finish this, Raiden conjured lightning in his hands before grabbing Scorpions head causing the lighting to go through and cause his head to explode a second later.
"Damn. That was brutal. But did he really have to do that Jaune?" Yang asked.
"Yang. I know you are from Remnant where violence like this is not common. But you have to understand. Here, is all or nothing. And the only way to make sure you get to see tomorrow is to kill your enemies and who or whatever else is trying kill you. And that means making sure they are dead even if it is through brutal and disgusting ways. It's just how this world works. And you better get used to it otherwise you will die. And the sooner, the better." I told her. Everything grew silent at this as the ones from Remnant took this all in. And judging from their stances, I could tell they were extremely uncomfortable at this knowledge. Thankfully, Ruby broke the silence a moment later.
"Hey, look. Its Jaune again." She said pointing to a figure stepping up to the courtyard. And indeed, it was me. Well, another past me to be precise. Except this time, I was wearing one of Scorpions old outfits minus the mask. Dark Raiden heard the footsteps and turned around to confront my past self.
"What are you wearing this time Jaune? Something else to the clan?" Pyrrha asked. Though Scorpion answered her before I could.
"Sort of. He is wearing one of my old outfits minus the mask." He answered her.
"Well, I must say you do look hot in that Jaune," Pyrrha whispered seductively into my ear which caused me to go crimson in the face. But before I could say anything in response, my past self roared catching everyone's attention.
"HOLY SHIT!" Yang yelled out scared and shocked as she saw my past self become ablaze and flew towards Raiden and through him as well. Leaving a giant gap where his stomach was with the spine mysteriously still intact. He then flicked a sword out of the sheathe before fully taking it out and turning to face Raiden while cutting his head off. He then kicked Raiden's head away with a spinning back kick before launching a kunai with chain it with it hitting its mark and going through Raiden's mouth.
'GET OVER HERE!' My past self roared as he brought the head back to him before he dropped it to the ground and stepped on it. Destroying it. He then roared to the heavens as more fire blazed around him before disappearing. We all stayed quiet for a while after this. Until yang finally spoke up breaking the silence.
"The more and more time I spend here. The more grateful I become that I never lived here, you guys are our allies and that I didn't make Jaune an enemy. I don't think I am ready for this to become my reality. Why don't we continue forward and try to solve whatever is the problem?" She asked in a neutral voice. Though we could tell there was some underlying tones to it. Mainly dread and fear.
"This place truly is a dreadful place that I wouldn't wish upon anyone else. Let us continue forward." Ironwoods agreed as well with Yang with the others nodding their heads in agreement. Sighing, I turned to Raiden and told him to make another portal. He nodded and quickly made another portal and we all stepped forward into it with the portal closing behind us as the last one stepped through it.
*Note: The old outfit Jaune is wearing is Scorpion MK 9 outfit but slightly modified to fit him with the swords on his waist instead of back.
