Leo:
Leo was having a really bad day. First, he had woken up and smacked his head against the ceiling above his bed. While the sounds of machinery normally soothed Leo to sleep, the constant metal pipes protruding from the walls of his bedroom were definitely a downside of living right next to the engine room. They were a magnet for head injuries.
Right after bruising himself, Leo and the rest of the demigods had been attacked by demon birds. 15 minutes later, Frank had made him realize that Percy and Annabeth really had been acting differently since their return from Tartarus. The couple was quieter and sadder, and they spent more time alone together than they had before.
Leo sighed. Pipes, monsters, and depressed friends, and it wasn't even 9 am.
He got up and left the engine room where he'd been working, hammering away on pieces of wood and scrap metal. Since his return to the Argo II, Leo discovered himself in the engine room more and more often, finding that working his hands made it easier to create ways back to Calypso. Thinking of her brought a fierce feeling of determination, a burning passion that reminded Leo he needed to get back to Oygigia.
Leo stumbled onto the main deck, surprised not only to where his feet had been leading him, but also to the fact that the rest of the crew were gathered in a circle, staring at Piper's knife, Katropolis.
"...huge waves crashing down." Piper was explaining just as Leo joined the group. Percy looked up, moving closer to Annabeth to give Leo space in the circle. "Piper had a vision in Katropolis," he whispered.
Understanding, Leo looked back at Piper and focused on her story. "It seemed as if I was underwater, slowly sinking. The light was fading above me in the vision." The crew was silent for a minute, thinking about the morbid future they had just heard about. According to Piper, one of them was going to sink underwater, or in translation, one of the seven was going to drown.
Annabeth spoke up, "There's no point worrying about it now. If one of us is going to get hurt we'll get hurt, there's nothing we can do to change fate."
Hazel agreed, "Annabeth is right, we can't get distracted by the possibility of danger. All we can do is stay focused and hope Percy is somewhere around if one of us is in the water."
Leo nodded along. "Honestly, no one should go near the water without him." He turned to look at Percy. "I mean if that's alright with you." "Of course it is," He said, looking around at the group. "It's decided then. I'll set the Argo for flight and we'll stay on course for Athens. Until then we'll stay on guard and keep away from the water."
Just as Leo stood up to head for the ship's control panel, a massive wave slammed into the side of the boat. The Argo II shook with the force of the sea water. Whipping his head around to see if the rest of his friends were alright, Leo watched as Piper and Annabeth shared a terrified glance. Too late, he realized what was happening.
Piper's vision was coming true.
Suddenly a lot of things happened at once. Another wave hit the ship, drenching the demigods in salt water. Percy, who had too realized what's was going on, leaped into action, trying to control the churning ocean beneath them. And without any warning, a giant claw reached out of the sea, grabbed hold of Leo, Annabeth, and Piper, and dragged them underwater.
Leo woke up, shivering in the darkness. Blinking slowly, he tried to take in his surroundings. Murky water pressed down on him from all sides, and if he looked hard enough, he could make out forests of dense seaweed underneath him. He glanced to his right and saw Piper, trying to sit up, groggy and disoriented.
Suddenly Leo realized where they were. He and Piper were curled up in an air bubble at the bottom of the ocean, miles from the surface.
"Piper," he whispered. "Piper!" He shook her back to full consciousness. "We need to find a way back to the Argo II, before that- that thing comes back!" He shuddered, remembering the huge, slimy claw that had dragged him into the water. Even though Leo had only glimpsed small part of the creature that had pulled them underwater, he had absolutely no wish to see the rest of it.
Then suddenly, as if the monster had read his mind, a dark shape swam through the ocean, coming closer and closer each second. Leo's first reaction was a shark, but as the dark mass moved closer, he realized he was wrong. The creature finally came into view, and Leo decided he would much rather it be a shark. Because this was so much worse.
Cetus.
Piper drew Katropolis next to him, and Leo pulled a sword from his tool belt. He racked his brains for any story, any old tale that mentioned how to defeat the ancient sea monster. Unfortunately, he never got a chance to strategize, he and Piper never even got to fight. Instead, with a flick of its sharp fins and long, scaly tail, their bubble popped, Cetus swam away, and the two demigods were left to drown.
Leo wanted to scream. He could feel Piper kicking furiously next to him, trying to reach the surface thousands of feet above. He knew it was hopeless, and as the light faded away above them, he knew they were going to die.
Then to his surprise, he felt a yank on his right arm. He turned to see what was pulling him, dragging him up. Then, as if he weighed nothing, he was suddenly shooting through the water, up into the air, and onto the deck of the Argo II.
"LEO! PIPER!" Screams and yells echoed through the air. He gasped for oxygen, looked up to see Frank and Jason leaning over them.
"Are you ok?!" Hazel wrapped blankets around Piper and Leo, drying them off as they shivered. "You guys were pulled into the water, and then Percy went and saved you, and then-" She stopped. Hazel looked around, confused. "Where's Annabeth?"
Leo stared at his friends. He counted the people around him, and then counted Percy, who was sitting in the corner, his head in his hands. Six. He counted six. That meant-
Annabeth was gone.
