"I see you redesigned your uniform," Endeavor commented, looking down at the green-haired teen beside him. "Quite drastic."
Izuku shrugged his bare shoulders. "My fire's finally responding to my whole body instead of just my hands." The large man nodded silently, remembering the event that revealed Izuku's growth of power. "I'd like to take advantage of it, without constantly shredding through clothing and uniforms. I know material like that takes longer to sew and produce, so I'll go minimalist for the time until that changes."
"This leaves you wide open to sustainable damage," the top hero rebuked. "Even clothing sewn for uniforms can protect you from constant scrapes and cuts. Small inconveniences, yes. I don't expect you to walk around in plated armor, especially if you cannot blast your fire like my son and I can. But some defense is better than no defense."
"But if I don't have range then I should be stacking everything into speed," Izuku responded. "I'm stuck to close-quarters combat, so I need the mobility to get to and around opponents, and if I want to support people then I have to get to them too. The less weight on me the better I can act."
The flame hero grunted in his thoughts. Izuku looked out over the horizon line from the roof of Endeavor's agency, brushing away the breeze of the altitude with his body heat. It was strange being alone in his internship under the new number one hero, after two internships partnered with Iida under Manual and with Tsunotori from their sister class under Gunhead. Even though he joined his classmate because he knew the tall, blue-haired boy was going to chase after the Hero Killer: Stain and wanted to help send that man to his father's personal lairs, he still spent his time under the heroes properly befriending his schoolmates. But Endeavor only opened his door to Izuku, blatantly turning Bakugou away — which the blond boy complained about vehemently — and facing rejection as his son accepted an offer from the Laundry Hero: Wash instead. In all fairness, the dual-colored boy was planning on aiding the rescue teams in evacuating civilians from the cities closest to the location the League had their men stationed in, information courteously provided by the number two hero Hawks, while Izuku would be assigned to the front lines in apprehending all known criminals and accomplices when the raid began.
"We'll work on that then," Endeavor finally spoke out again. "Along with your reflexes and the control of your quirk. Does your fire provide any defensive capabilities?"
"Other sources of heat and fire don't hurt me."
"And offensive it only burns?" Withholding the detail it could also curse, Izuku nodded. "Then we'll test your knowledge and performance in clean takedowns and controlling your fire from scarring or burning through criminals. We'll work on building your muscle to match opponents in combat and handling scenarios without your fire only. I understand your weapons have yet to be permitted by the commission, so we'll use practice tools when you're training but they will not be permitted out in the field. Anything else you need to work on?"
"Other than learning some acrobatics and aerobics that I could benefit from mixing with all that, that should be all sir."
Endeavor nodded with an approving hum. "Good. Then before we get to your training, I have questions for you." The gaze of his turquoise eyes dropped to Izuku's emerald orbs staring back up at him. "You know Dabi. Or at the very least, he knows you."
Even for his positive body heat, Izuku could hear his body snap rigid from the question. Brushing his reaction aside, Endeavor continued, "I understand you informed your teachers and your parents have already disproven any connection to the villain, but I want to hear your words on the matter." The hero looked out to the skyline again. "You've never met the man before?"
"No." Izuku remembered explaining the situation to his mother and father, and how they used the dummy residence on their records as a location for the police and heroes to meet them for questioning. Bar himself and the Todoroki family and agency, his father was unfamiliar with other fire users on the surface world. The fact the League member knew about Izuku is what tipped off the king of Hell to go searching for clues and answers, which lead to the revelation that Dabi was more than likely a man of ancient age and origin. Not the greatest chain of days for Izuku to live through. "I was the only kid who grew up with fire powers in the neighborhood. I think more people had cold quirks than they did hot quirks."
"But he knew of your powers. He spoke about you with familiarity." The Todoroki father glanced at Izuku from the side of his eye. "If you're telling the truth, then you may have a mole within U.A. watching you."
That...wasn't exactly new information to Izuku. He had heard the whispers of a traitor or informant within the school walls, but it wasn't something he had given much thought to. Both in doubt and that the League had continued to brush Izuku aside as not as important as All-Might or even Bakugou when they had attacked the training camp. But that meant assuming his classmates or teachers were working for the League, and with all they had been through, even critically he couldn't find it in him to blame anyone so close to him.
"This isn't to blame your friends or mentors'' — exactly, Izuku agreed — "but it doesn't cross out everyone in your school. I know we are training you kids to join us in our fight, so I advise strongly in keeping this information and thought close to your chest. I've already shared the possibility with your principal. I hope we can find a perpetrator before they can learn about this. So stay sharp."
Izuku held his head high, eyes flicking up just to make sure his horns were still tied into his growing afro of hair. He was struggling to find a new haircut so he didn't start looking more crazy than a man missing his shirt trying to apprehend criminals. "Yes sir."
"Good. We'll begin training then. Follow me." Endeavor turned back to the roof access entrance and led Izuku away from the edge. "For now we'll judge how much you know. We'll patrol tomorrow. Burnin' has been keen on sparring with you and testing her limits against yours."
Izuku rolled his shoulders, allowing a moment for his upper body to plume in flames before dying out. This would be a first for him, properly training his fire powers and body with less restrictions against living and skilled combatants. Maybe it was excessive, aiming for training under some of the best fighters, living and dead in the fields he was looking for, but he was going to need everything he had for the fight he had. "I'll do my best."
"Do well enough and you'll be sparring against me. You'll be doing twice your best by the end of the week."
