Ch 10
Haruna's POV
Haruna was having a pleasant dream until she felt herself shaking. She shrugged it off, as she was too busy trying to find the source of a heady smell that was making her head spin. However, before she was able to find it, she felt the shock of lukewarm water on her face.
Haruna opened her eyes, as she flailed around, hitting her head on something that made pain revibrate in her skull. Haruna let out a groan as she held the top of her head. Beside her, she heard a curse.
Haruna turned around to the sound, and came face to face with Yoh, who was holding on to his cheek. Yoh looked just as wild as she did, with his hair plastered to his face and his eyes bleary with sleep, confusion, shock, and pain.
In front of them, they suddenly heard the sound of mocking laughter. They turned forwards to watch Asami clutching her stomach, as she laughed and laughed.
"What happened?" Haruna said. She took notice of the fact that her face and shirt were wet. Her head still hurt as she went and touched the bump that was forming.
Yoh, still holding his cheek, turned towards his sister and demanded an explanation.
Asami just laughed even harder.
Suddenly, Fumi was besides Haruna, hovering over her asking if she was alright. Haruna nodded yes before wincing.
"What happened? Why is Asami laughing? Why am I covered in water?"
Fumi looked at her for a second before he glanced towards Yoh, who was staring at Fumi, waiting for his explanation.
"Well," Fumi started, "you both fell asleep. I couldn't wake you up, Haruna, so Asami threw a little bit of water on you so you would wake up. You woke up and you banged your head on Yoh's face in your confusion."
Haruna winced in sympathy before turning to Yoh.
"I am so sorry, Yoh! Are you hurt? Let me see your face!". Haruna reached out a hand to Yoh's face, gently removing his hand, as she saw a big bruise starting to form in his cheek. She gently caressed the bruise drawing a sharp breath from Yoh, who stared at her with his brows knitted.
A moment or two passed as Yoh and Haruna stared at each other, just like the moment before they went into the movie theater earlier. Just like that time, Haruna's heartbeat quickened ever so slightly. Just like that time, they were interrupted.
"Haruna? Yoh? Everyone has already left. We should probably get going, too, before the cleaning crew comes."
The sound of Fumi's voice snapped Haruna and Yoh back to reality. Haruna quickly dropped her hand from Yoh's face, her face turning pink, before gathering her stuff and walking fast toward the exit.
Once outside, everyone decided it was best to call it a day as Haruna's clothes were still wet. Yoh and Asami headed home, so it was now only her and Fumi.
Fumi offered to walk her home. Haruna wanted to decline, as she was feeling very confused and frustrated. Her feelings were all over the place today. Today was supposed to have been fun. It was supposed to have been her first real date with her first boyfriend and she had screwed everything up. She had fallen asleep. She had….
Haruna shook her head unhappily. She couldn't talk to Fumi right now. She needed to clear her own head first.
"It's okay, Fumi! There is still some light so I can walk home. I am sorry that I fell asleep." Haruna turned to look at the ground. She began to shiver as the cold air hit her wet clothes.
Suddenly, she felt a warm weight on her shoulders. She looked up to see Fumi draping his jacket over her shoulders. Haruna smiled at Fumi. Wow, I have such a great boyfriend., she thought warmly.
Fumi smiled back at Haruna for a second, before he frowned.
"Haruna, is there something wrong? You look like you are on the edge or something. You know you can always talk to me right?".
His kind words just about made Haruna cry. But she didn't. Instead she did what Haruna did best. Overcome.
"I demand a rematch date. Only me and you."
Fumi spluttered out a laugh. "What?"
Haruna pushed on. "I know today didn't go that well with me falling asleep and everything. So I want to make it up to you."
Fumi smiled at Haruna. "You are a strange girl, Haruna. I accept. Let's have the best rematch date ever."
Haruna smiled a bigger smile before throwing her arms around Fumi. "Thank you, Fumi! You won't regret it."
Fumi hugged Haruna back. They stayed like that for a while before Haruna pulled herself out, bid Fumi goodnight, and jogged back home.
As she jogged back home, feeling at peace for a little bit, she caught a scent. The scent was coming from Fumi's jacket. She stopped. Feeling like a total weirdo, she sniffed the collar of Fumi's jacket. It was certainly a nice smell, a mix of deodorant and the softener that her mom liked to use. However, it just wasn't the heady smell of cinnamon that she had encountered in her dream and which had made her head spin.
Haruna shrugged. It was probably just part of the dream…
