ACT 5/TAG - Scene Set 6
INT. ON THE JET - 6.1
START SCENE
Most of the team was sitting near each other, except for Emily, who sat off to the side
Rossi: You know, I wasn't expecting that big show from her. That's uncommon for unsubs who've been institutionalized
Reid: Statically, yes. Someone who's attempted suicide in the past, like Ridgeway, would be more likely to shoot themselve or commit suicide by cop than try to negotiate and play games. I wonder why she did that
Garcia: Well, i might have a clue
Hotch: I'll bite
Garcia: So Amy Ridgeway was actually somewhat of a prodigy- she graduated from highschool two years early and then went on to the University of south Carolina's honors program but dropped out around the time she was admitted to White Blossom
Reid: What was she studying?
Garcia: Um.. She was majoring in philosophy and ethics and minoring in religion
Morgan: That's probably when the contradiction of her father and his role in the church became blatantly obvious to her. She couldn't ignore it and it drove her to suicide
Hotch: and then Murder
Reid nodded
Reid: Wouldn't it have been more likely for her to kill her father rather than surrogates?
Hotch nodded
Garcia: Well, he died from a heart attack while she was still at White Blossom
Morgan: So she can't get revenge on her father, so she takes it out on surrogates.
The team nodded, but Morgan noticed Prentiss wasn't even pretending to be involved. He knew he needed to direct the team's attention to Prentiss's recent issues
Morgan: Prentiss, thoughts?
Emily snapped out of her thoughts at hearing her name
Prentiss: what?
Morgan: Do you agree with the updated profile?
Emily hadn't even realized they'd been updating the profile. She wasn't sure what had even been discussed, but she was now acutely aware of the entire team staring at her, patiently waiting for a response
Prentiss: Uh, yeah I agree. The updated profile makes sense.
Her vagueness didn't go unnoticed by Morgan. Morgan gave Hotch a look. Hotch nodded, as he realized why Morgan had asked a somewhat unnecessary question. Something was definitely up.
Hotch: Prentiss, I'm sure JJ would like an update on the case. Can you handle it?
Hotch knew whatever was going on with Emily was two pronged. First, Whatever was the source of tension with her and JJ, and second whatever the hell she pulled in Boston. He hoped forcing her confront at least the JJ part of it would help.
He was worried about Agent Prentiss, but more importantly he was worried about Emily
Prentiss, curtly: Of course.

INT. JJ'S HOSPITAL ROOM - 6.2
START SCENE
Emily knocked lightly on the door, not wanting to wake her if she was sleeping
JJ: Come in
JJ was honestly surprised to see Emily walk in
Prentiss: Hey, Hotch wanted me to give you an update on the case
JJ, gesturing for Emily to sit: Please
Prentiss tentatively sat on the foot of JJ's hospital bed
JJ: What happened?
Prentiss: Uh.. Unsub turned out to be a young woman, recently released from a local psych hospital, killing surrogates for her father.
JJ nodded
JJ: How'd the takedown go?
Prentiss looked away
JJ: Emily…
Prentiss: I had to… [she hesitated, choking on her words] I had to take the shot.
JJ: I'm sure you did.
Emily couldn't look her in the eye. JJ noticed this.
JJ: Emily, look at me.
She didn't
JJ: Emily, please.
Prentiss relented and looked at JJ
JJ: You did what you had to do.
Prentiss: I know that
JJ: Then why are you-
Prentiss: I don't know.
JJ wanted to reach out, to touch her friend, but her shoulder was still sore and she inadvertently winced
Prentiss: Jayje-
JJ: I'm ok.
Prentiss: I'm so sorry
It didn't exactly make sense, but Emily felt guilty for JJ getting shot- if she'd figured out the Doyle connection sooner- maybe, JJ wouldn't be sitting in a hospital bed, wincing when she tried to move.
JJ: Emily, it's not your fault I-
Prentiss interrupted JJ
Prentiss: You got shot, JJ
JJ: Yeah, It happens
Emily teared up at this。"It happens". JJ being nonchalant about a brush with death made her sick.
She was used to it. She'd had several close calls while on a CIA op. Being resigned to acceptance of your own death and pain was a trait of hardened souls.
JJ wasn't that. At least, JJ wasn't supposed to be that. JJ was sunshine and smiles. JJ was everything Emily felt she wasn't. Everything Emily felt she wasn't allowed to be.
JJ couldn't help herself now- despite the pain, she gently brushed a hair away from Emily's face, which was now slick with tears.
Emily leaned closer and started to do something she hadn't expected and she didn't realize what she was doing until she'd done it. She kissed her. Shocked at herself, she pulled away almost as quickly as she'd done it, pulling her hand to her lips.
To her surprise, JJ didn't look angry or surprised
JJ: Em-
Prentiss now looked right at her, desperate to know what JJ was going to say
JJ: I love Will.
At that moment, Emily knew what was causing her short fuse with JJ the past few weeks. She knew because when JJ said that, she felt like someone had taken a stake to her heart. She bit her lip.
Emily: I know.
