Best Laid Plans-Ch 9
Derek laid and listened to his family talk for a few minutes before he said, "please tell me that Penelope isn't alone", Reid said, "she's not, Jayje and Em are with her, we've been taking turns staying with her and you". Derek said, "thank you all so much, you have no idea how much that means to me, to us". Dave walked into the room and said ,"welcome back to the land of the living son" as he handed out the cups of coffee.
He handed Derek one and said, "and yes I got permission from your doctor to give you one", Derek took a sip and said, "that's delicious, thanks Dave", Fran smiled as she watched her son enjoy the taste of his coffee. After a few minutes of silence from Derek his sister Sarah said, "why are you sulking"?, Derek said, "I'm fine, just thinking that's all big sister".
Dave said, "thinking about what son"?, Derek said, "well I can't stop thinking and wondering who shot the man that hit our SUV", Hotch said, "we've been wondering the same thing Morgan but so far we have no leads, nothing". Derek moved around in the bed and winced in pain and Fran said, "honey would you like me to see if the nurse can give you something for pain"?, he said, "yes please momma, these ribs and my arm are driving me nuts".
Fran stood up and walked out of the room to come back a few minutes later with Shannon, she said, "your mother tells me that you would like something for pain", Derek said, "yeah that would be very much appreciated". She nodded her head and pulled a syringe out of her pocket, she took the cap off and inserted the needle into his IV port and said, "that should kick in soon and then you'll be out for a while".
Derek said, "as long as the pain is gone I'll be good with sleep", Dave said, "rest is what your body needs right now so it can heal", Derek nodded his head and said, "and the sooner I get better the sooner I can take care of my baby girl". Meanwhile in Penelopes room JJ sighs and says, "her blood pressure is staying stable so that has to be good, right"?, Emily nodded her head and said, "definitely Jayje, definitely".
JJ put her hand on Penelopes and said, "Morgan is doing better Garcie, he's awake and of course wanting to get down here to you but right now he's not allowed or able to be out of bed but just as soon as he can he'll be here with you". Emily said, "ohhhh yeah he'll definitely be in here with you, we won't be able to knock him away from you PG" causing JJ and Emily to both smile for a few seconds before their attention went back to watching the rise and fall of her chest.
Derek yawned and said, "can you guys do me a favor"?, Dave said, "sure son, what do you need"?, he said, "well I was hoping that you could go get me something to eat that won't taste like, well won't taste like cardboard". Hotch laughed and said, "yeah hospital food isn't good at all", Fran said, "of course we can", Reid said, "are you sure you don't want us to stay with you until you go to sleep"?, Derek yawned again and said, "I'll be out in a few minutes pretty boy, so, yeah I'm sure".
Dave said, "we'll stop by kittens room and see if the girls want to come with us to grab a bite to eat", Derek closed his eyes and said, "sounds good Ros" and then he got quiet, really quiet and Fran stood up and kissed him on the forehead and said, "sleep baby boy, sleep". She then intertwined fingers with her husband and said, "he'll be out for a while now so the peace and quiet will do him some good" as they all nodded their heads yes in agreement and headed toward the door.
Fran turned around and smiled at her son one final time before continuing on up the hall, Derek waited until he heard them disappear around the corner before he threw the covers back and got up as gently as he could. He grabbed his ribs with his good hand and said, "you can do this, baby girl needs you" as he made his way to the door.
He looked out and saw that the nurses station was empty so he smiled and said, "I'm coming baby girl, I'm coming" as he quietly and quickly made his way from his room and up the hall toward hers.
