Two stories in one day is a bit crazy isn't it. Don't get used to it. I'm not as on it all the time.
I do have to put a disclaimer here. I'm from England and the topic of this story isn't something that happens here so therefore this might not be very factual. Regardless, I hope this is enjoyable and I'm sorry if it's just ridiculously wrong in many senses.
Baby, Come Back To Me
It was meant to be a normal day. It was meant to be a happy day. Jesse was normally walking on air. He was in his senior year; he had a beautiful girlfriend that he'd been with for over two years and he'd recently aced his NYADA audition. Even if he said so himself.
Jesse walked into school and immediately spotted his girlfriend waiting for him by his locker. She was waiting for him and talking with their mutual friends, Santana and Kurt. He smiled to himself as he walked up to the group and slung an arm around his girlfriend's shoulders without saying a word. She smiled up at him but carried on talking to her friends without saying anything to him. It was coming up to the end of the year and they were discussing their plans after graduation.
Soon, the bell had rang and they all had to go to their separate lessons. Santana and Jesse had one together, so they went in one direction and Rachel and Kurt, who had one together, went off in the other direction.
A few hours into their 'ordinary' day and Jesse was finding it a little hard to stay awake. He was bored with the lesson and he was missing his girlfriend, who he'd not had a lesson with all day. He was looking forward to Glee at the end of the day so he could see her.
He was just starting to nod off when he started to hear some commotion outside in the hallway. Some screaming and crying and then some shouting. The classmates around Jesse started looking between each other, coming close to panicking and just as Jesse was about to try and calm everyone down, they heard a gunshot. And then another one. And then another one. And then the classroom really fell into chaos.
Before Jesse was able to get up from his seat, everyone around him was scrambling to get up and out of the door to leave the school. All Jesse could think about was Rachel. Was she ok? Was she anywhere near the shots that went off?
"Jesse, come on, we have to go." Santana's voice broke through his thoughts and the next thing he knew, his arm was being pulled and he was being dragged from his chair and out into the hallway. He and Santana started to make their way to the entrance of the school going as quickly as they could while trying not to push anyone else down. When they finally left the school and thought they could breath a sigh of relief, they bumped into Kurt.
"Rachel!" was all he said.
Jesse frowned, not understanding his friend but one look around helped him to understand. "Where is she Kurt?" he asked, hoping more than anything that the answer was going to be that she was already out of the school but knowing that it probably wasn't.
Kurt started to get tearful. "I don't know. I lost her in the commotion. I don't know where she is." Kurt said frantically.
Jesse nodded to show that he understood. "It's ok, Kurt. I'll find her." He said without thinking twice.
"Oh no you don't." Santana said quickly, grabbing and holding Jesse in a death grip before he could do anything stupid like go back into the school.
"Santana, let me go. I need to find her. Please?" he pleaded.
"No way. We don't who is in there and we don't know how many people are in there. How do you think Rachel will feel if you go in there and never come out again?" she asked him, raising an eyebrow.
"How do you think I'll feel if she never comes out of there?" Jesse asked in retaliation. He knew that Santana was right, but he couldn't get it out of his head that she was in trouble. "What if she's in trouble?" he asked, saying his thoughts out loud to his friends.
"Then you going in there probably won't make it any better." Santana soothed. "There is a high chance that you'll escalate the situation."
"What does that mean?" Jesse asked hotly.
"It means that you love her so much that you'll do anything to protect her without thinking twice. Which could definitely make things worse." Kurt said to him, hoping that it would help. "Besides, what if she's not in trouble? What if she's just hiding out and waiting for the police to sort this situation out."
"Then someone should be waiting with her. Someone who loves her." Jesse retaliated.
"So you want to put her in danger by making it known where she is?" Santana questioned. Jesse looked to his friend with a look that suggested he might cry. Santana sighed. "Look, the best thing you can do for her is wait. We need to wait for authorities to tell us what's going on." She told him forcefully. She pulled him away from the entrance of the school to take away the temptation and she and Kurt took him over to where most of the other Glee kids had seemed to congregate. Jesse sat down on the ground and put his head in his hand knowing that until he knew for certain, time was going to go very slowly.
Less than an hour passed by and Jesse was getting antsy. A lot of the other Glee kids had gone home, and he didn't blame them. He knew that they all cared about what happened to Rachel but even being slightly involved in a school shooting was draining and incredibly stressful and all a lot of them just wanted to do was go home. He didn't blame them for that, and he knew that Rachel wouldn't either. Not surprisingly though, Santana and Kurt had both stuck around, refusing to leave until they knew their girl was safe.
All the necessary people had been informed that Rachel was missing and was more than likely still in school. It turned out that her a small number of others were also missing; students from different grades, and of different ages, but no teachers.
Santana and Kurt were worried about their friend. Jesse hadn't moved from his spot on the floor. Jesse had tried to hide it but Santana and Kurt knew that the thought of losing Rachel was enough to reduce him to tears, and they knew that if something bad happened to Rachel, Jesse would fall apart, and it was unlikely that anybody would be able to put him back together. Jesse and Rachel loved each other; they had that passionate kind of love where you knew that it was going to last just by looking at them. They adored each other and would do almost anything for each other. It would ruin him if something bad happened to her. Although, if they were honest with themselves, they couldn't imagine their life if something happened to her either.
From what the trio had heard from the other teachers and authorities that were around the school that Rachel and the other hostages had been located and now it was just a case of acting quickly so everyone was taken to safety but not quick enough that the hostage takers did something to one of the hostages.
The waiting around was driving Jesse crazy. The hour that had passed could have easily had been five for Jesse. The fact that they had little to no information was the thing that making Jesse want to rip his hair out the most.
Jesse remembered something that Rachel had told him once, when he was nervous about an audition. He remembered the conversation so clearly because nerves weren't something that Jesse usually felt, especially when it came to singing.
"Just sing a song that you love, quietly to you." She had said. "Hum it or whistle it or sing it and you'll soon realise that you can do this. And you're going to great at it."
Jesse thought of Rachel and only one song came to mind. 'Hello' by Lionel Ritchie was a song they'd sang together the day they met. It was the song that made him fall in love with her, so it was the obvious choice.
"I've been alone with you inside my mind
And in my dreams I've kissed your lips a thousand times."
He carried the song on in his head, willing his girl to come back to him.
"Jesse," he felt someone smack his shoulder and he looked to the person who had done it. It was Santana and she was staring straight ahead with a small smile on her face. She looked down at him and pulled him up. "Over there." She said, pointing to the school.
He followed where she was pointing and saw some of the hostages come out of the school, all of them crying.
"Where is she?" he asked instantly. "Where is Rachel?" he asked again when his friends didn't answer him.
"She'll be here." Kurt said furiously. Jesse wasn't sure if it was said like that to convince Jesse, himself or all three of them.
A few anxious seconds passed until Jesse saw her. She looked dishevelled, unlike herself and she had tears streaming down her face but unlike the rest of the hostages, she looked like she was trying to stop herself from crying.
Jesse started running towards her, not thinking twice. She saw him before he'd caught her, and she was only too happy to be swept up in his arms.
Jesse started to cry again as soon as he made contact with her, not believing that she was actually in his arms. He held onto her for a long while and when he finally released her, he asked how she was.
"I'm not hurt." She answered because she knew that was his real question. "They didn't touch me, they just tried to scare me into thinking they would."
"I'm so happy to see you." He said before, again, bundling her up in his arms. Santana and Kurt then came over to give her a hug too and express how happy they were to see her too. Santana had finally started to get teary at seeing her friend after such a terrifying experience. Rachel hugged both of her friends tightly, thankful that she had such good friends before going back and hugging Jesse.
"Can you just take me home?" Rachel asked after a moment, pulling away from Jesse. "I just want to go home."
He kissed the top of her head before drying his own tears. "Of course." He said, taking her hand and leading her to his car after they had both said goodbye to Santana and Kurt. It was time to try and forget the day.
Thanks for reading. I hope it was somewhat enjoyable, even if I did probably get so many things wrong. I did take a bit of inspiration from the school shooting episode in Glee as well as the one in One Tree Hill (if you haven't watched that series, I seriously recommend it) but I've never personally experienced something like this so I don't know if these shows are even accurate. I'm sorry!
