Chapter 7: Reunion

Vergil dodged as his father summoned yet another wave of energy swords. He was still in shock that his own father was the one he was fighting.

"How did this happen?" Vergil asked loudly at his father. Sparda found this to be a fair question and ceased his assault.

"When you were defeated, Mundus decided to pull one more trick."

"Father, you can fight this…"

"I…..DON'T WANT TO!" The Dark Knight roared as he Triggered. "FOR 2 MILLILENA I HAVE GIVEN MY LIFE TO HUMANKIND, SACRAFICED SO MUCH! I GROW WEARY OF THEIR FOOLISHNESS!" Vergil dodged his father's sword. Oh by Hell, he sounds like me….

"Father, stop this, Mundus is dead…."

"IS HE? OR IS HE THE ONE PULLING THE STRINGS?! THINK BOY!" Sparda swung his sword again, and again Vergil dodged. His father had him thinking. He remembered his time as Nelo Angelo. He had been under Mundus' control so he knew what to look for! He used his other sight. He searched for anything that didn't belong. Deep in the shadows, he saw it. It was dark, contorted and blob like. He aimed energy swords and released . Jackpot! The older Sparda thought with a smirk.

"GRRRR," Mundus roared as he was revealed, which caused Sparda to drop to the floor as if he were a lifeless doll. "Your blasted father is always upsetting my plans!" Mundus turned to the fallen Dark Knight and was about to aim a blast when he growled again and backed off, Vergil stood in front of his father, wielding the Sparda!

"HOW DID YOU MANAGE?!" The Demon Emperor gaped. Vergil didn't answer. He didn't have to. He knew…He turned and saw two devils, one of fire, and the other, was blue black with white hair. Vergil smiled softly but didn't move.

"You disobeyed me…" The Demon King said softly. The demoness chuckled as the demon in blue and black helped Sparda up. The demoness took Yamato and slashed a portal.

"Go," She ordered and wordlessly the other devil nodded and hoisted the unconscious Dark Knight and walked through, the portal closing up soon after. She looked at the Demon King and grinned.

"Yes I did, but I couldn't let you have all the fun." Vergil looked at his intended and growled lowly. She rolled her eyes and looked at Mundus. "So, here we are again," She allowed herself to change, Dante taking her place who smirked and shrugged. "Almost how many decades later?"

"How are you…..Wasn't there a woman….?" Dante waited for Vergil to De trigger then held out Ebony. The elder walked over, replaced the Sparda onto his back, and chuckled as he looked at the offered weapon, fondly remembering the gun. He took it and aimed it. Dante aimed Ivory and both Spardas smirked as they had one word on their lips.

"Jackpot!" They said as they fired. Mundus screamed as their powers merged and he was literally blown away, for good. The two looked at each other and Dante grinned as he shimmered full purple.

"Looks like my time is up. Take care of her will ye?" Vergil nodded and Dante vanished and Mira fell into Vergil's arms. She opened her eyes and smiled. Vergil held her close and smiled warmly.

"Hello, my heart. Let's go home." Mira nodded and after securing their gear, Vergil picked up Mira up bridal style, causing the demoness to gasp then giggle softly.

"Um Verge, how are we getting home?" Mira asked as she wrapped her arms around his neck. The Demon King smirked and used one hand to open a portal, and walked on through.

Nero looked up from tending to his newfound grandfather and waited as a portal opened and his father walked through carrying his mother.

"Awww that's adorbs!" Nero snickered. "Swept Mother off her feet hmm Father?"

"And in style." Mira laughed as Vergil put her down gently. Mira opened her arms and Nero fell into them. He smiled as his mother hugged him warmly. Both heard a groan from the couch.

"Oh by Hell, this couch is a brick!" Mother and son looked at the Dark Knight and while Nero blinked from shock, Mira smiled. She knew this man. The man in purple smiled back and stood up despite his battle wounds, arms open. Mira walked into her father's embrace and hugged him back.

"Daddy," She said softly, allowing her tears to fall. Sparda held his daughter tight and cried as well. He looked up and beckoned for his son and grandson. The two came into the embrace as well and the family cried. At last, the family was reunited and complete again.

Nero and Mira excitedly went to go shopping to gather ingredients to cook with while Vergil and Sparda stayed in the office. Griffon and Shadow were around the office as well and Sparda examined the Devil Arms and trophies.

"Very impressive but it can be better."

"Don't tell Mira that, last time I tried I almost lost my head." At this Sparda chuckled.

"Ah, my son, you have a lot to learn. Don't fear, although she is fiery, she is kind hearted. I can tell."

"Father, what happened? We were children when you got called away…." Sparda sighed heavily and looked at his son.

"I'd rather wait until Mira and Nero come back, fair enough?" Vergil nodded and pet Shadow, sitting back in his seat. Griffon flew over, obviously star struck.

"Oh wow, its you!" Griffon flapped and fluttered as he looked at the Dark Knight "I…holy shit!" Sparda looked at the demon bird and chuckled.

"A demon bird as a familiar, this is curious and fascinating indeed. And a Shadow, simply remarkable." Vergil nodded.

"Griffon, can you please check on Mira and Nero for us?"

"Ah, sure, but what if Mira's in a changing room? I get to peek?" Sparda looked scandalized while his Master looked pissed but calmed down quickly.

"Then you come get me. If you see even one part of her, I'll snap your neck. Is that clear?"

"Crystal clear." Griffon gulped as he flapped fast. Sparda laughed as the demon bird dropped a few feathers.

"Son, what do you intend to do now? Mundus is dead finally and the other demons similar to him are gone."

"Father, I…ate the Qliupoth fruit." He waited for a scolding from his father but instead he got a laugh.

"So you became King of the Underworld….well that's a huge flip of the bird at Mundus."

"You're not angry?"

"Oh, I am furious. So many lives lost, innocent, human lives … but, I understand you feel all of your sins?"

"I split myself with Yamato."

"So your demon drove you to rip my grandson's arm off and kill those people…while your human side fought it, and did penance…."Vergil stood up and brandished Yamato.

"Father, I never said anything about Nero's arm…how did you know?" Sparda pointed to the perfect amulet.

"Like I said, a lot to learn. The perfect amulet sees and knows all. I believe Mira had it last as her alter."

"So it records….everything?"

"What the wearer sees, it sees."

"So how come I don't see anything?" Sparda pointed to his namesake sword. "You'll need that. And," He summoned up Rebellion, fully restored! "This." Vergil blinked. Sparda was ready with a simple explanation.

"Yamato splits humanity from Devil, Rebellion binds both."

"Did you….uh?"

"Split myself as you have? You'd be surprised at my answer."

"You did…."

"I had to, to keep my devil in the Underworld. To seal the tower. Which I understand, you rose. But, things fell as they did. The important thing is we are here….I miss your mother terribly. My Eva…" The older man bowed his head and cried. Vergil bowed his head in memory of his mother. Sparda looked at his son and reached in an innermost pocket of his coat. He pulled out a small double picture frame and handed it over. Vergil opened it and gasped. It was of his parents and himself and his Mira as babies. The other side was not complete.

"Father…."

"I foresaw what would befall you both, I did what I could to protect you both. Although it broke my heart a thousand times over, I can see, that I made the right choice." Vergil closed the frame and tried to give it back but Sparda held up a hand.

"That picture is not complete. The empty part is for your family my son."

"Mine?"

"Mira and Nero are your family. You complete each other, as you complete me. But that hair and those eyes," He looked at his son's hair and eyes. "You don't have to hide anymore, son." With a sigh Vergil closed his eyes and allowed his hair to fall passed his chin, bangs falling a bit over his right eye, his eyes darken to green with ice blue flecks. Even his features softened and skin darkened a bit, almost passing for an older version of his own son! Sparda nodded in approval and handed Vergil a mirror. "There you are." The elder chuckled. Vergil blinked and tapped the mirror. His hair was still white but with the way it looked, he looked more angelic. A devilish angel but still.

"We're home!" Mira called out as she and Nero came in with bags of groceries, both laughing as they struggled. Sparda and Vergil ran over to help. Mira gasped then blushed.

"V?…Vergil? Oh wow…." She whispered as she looked at him. "How…you are keeping this look right?" Nero blinked and chuckled.

"Whoa, its like a mirror….Hey old man, off my Marshmallow chocolates!" Sparda blinked but snagged the bag with a smirk and dashed off. Nero ran after his grandfather, leaving his parents to sort out the rest of the food. Both of them chuckled and put everything away. As Mira prepared to cook, Vergil stood behind her and held her, resting his head on top of hers.

"He's finally gone. Mother can rest in peace now." Mira whispered. Vergil nodded and hugged her. The couple chuckled when they heard Nero whining about greedy grandfathers and begging for some of the stolen treats.

"Well, we best stop this or someone is going to be too sick to eat dinner." Mira said as she prepared a salad.

"I'll handle it." Vergil said as he kissed her cheek and stole a dinner roll. Mira groaned and shook her head, laughing softly.

"Nero, what's going on?"

"This overgrown bug won't share the loot!" Nero shouted. Sparda laughed.

"BUG? I'm far from a bug!"

"You got insect wings with a big ass sweet tooth, you're a bug!" Nero argued. Vergil looked away, trying not to laugh. Sparda just grinned and ate another treat, to Nero's dismay. "Father, stop him!" The younger devil pleaded.

"I can't. The bug might squash me."

"Yea? Well time to bring out the big guns….Mother!" Both Vergil and Sparda gulped. Mira came up running.

"What happened?"

"Grandfather's being greedy and Father's wimping out." The older men objected and stammered but Mira sighed and snatched the bag away.

"Now, no one gets. Go wash up for dinner. NOW MOVE!" She stormed back downstairs and the men were left blinking.

"Did she just…." Nero began.

"Order us…." Vergil continued.

"And took the sweets away?" Sparda finished. The three men shrugged then washed up for dinner. They knew better than to piss Mira off.

The family sat down to a beautiful dinner with Vergil at the head of the table Mira on his left, Nero on his right and Sparda sat at the other end opposite of his son. Vergil looked at his father and raised an eyebrow as he sipped his wine.

"As I promised, I will explain." Sparda said. Vergil held Mira's hand in his and Nero leaned in, listening attentively. "I was called away on what I believed was a mission. As it turned out, it was a trap set by two crazed idiots who struck a deal with Mundus. One was a skinny kid with a big nose and was rather preachy and the other was shorter, kind of nerdy…"

"No way…..that sounds like Sanctus and Agnus." Nero said. "Grandfather what were they wearing?"

"Clothes." The elder said smartly and Nero groaned as his parents laughed. "Just teasing, child. The skinny kid was dressed in a white junior priest's robes the short kid had really thick glasses and a ponytail…lab uniform."

"Yep, it's them." Nero said. "But Mother didn't we…."

"We killed them both kiddo." Mira said with a grin. "The way you took out Sanctus and the Savior made me so proud!" Vergil blinked and Sparda tapped silently on where the amulet would be. Vergil sat back and closed his eyes, allowing the amulet to show him what he wanted see.

A massive white statue soared over the sky and as the people ran for their lives the demons that ran loose were destroyed by lasers that the statue that was called 'The Savior' fired. Dante and Trish watched as Nero tried to fight but as soon as he tried to attack Sanctus the priest did a cheap shot, showing the songstress. Nero froze and the statue absorbed him.

Dante stepped up, kicking Sanctus' ass from the outside and delivered Yamato to Nero, who was inside.

"Time to wake up kid! You're missing all the fun! NERO!" The younger devil woke up and kicked Sanctus' ass as well and after rescuing the songstress and having both the Sparda and Yamato on him, he jumped out of the statue. The statue went down but came back up with Sanctus' face. Dante allowed Nero to finish it. The younger devil jumped up and used the Devil Bringer to crush the statue.

"NOW DIE!" Nero yelled as he crushed the statue's face and destroying it. The statue crumbled and Nero was victorious. Dante allowed Nero to keep Yamato and they went their ways. Nero was about to have his first kiss when a demon jumped in and killed the moment…

Vergil slowly opened his eyes and looked at Nero, smiling with fatherly pride.

"I am very proud of you Nero." The younger hunter lightly scratched the side of his nose tilted his head to the side.

"Thank you, Father."

"You got that little quirk from your mother." Sparda teased. Mira blinked but blushed and lightly touched her nose. Vergil chuckled warmly as they continued their dinner and reunion. Somehow, Vergil knew their mother was watching and smiling lovingly at the sight of her family finally at peace and together.

Rest in peace Mother. Vergil thought as he raised his glass in a silent toast. We love you, always.
