Plot:Three months after discovering his disease,Tony Stark and his wife Pepper potts arrive at a science fair,where Tony meets a young man named Alex Taylor,who he decides to take under his wing.
Seven years later and five months after "The battle of Chicago",Trent Myers is inducted as CEO of Stark Industries and he has successfully won back the trust of the people and helped instigate a new satellite called "The Last Resort".
One night,while at an event celebrating the last resort,he runs into Lilly Burns and asks her if she would like to have dinner,while Lilly declines dinner,she does agree to coffee.
Later,while getting ready to go meet Lilly for coffee,Trent gets advice from both Tony and his friend Donnie about how to proceed before he leaves.
While Trent is gone,Tony gets a call from James Rhodes,telling him that Taylor has escaped from the Raft,making Tony set up defense protocols in the house and puts on a suit of armor.
But then the entire house shuts down as Taylor suddenly attacks and a fight breaks out between the two,but due to his increasing bad health,Taylor gets the upper hand on Tony and leaves him for dead as he blows up the house.
Lily and Trent arrive at the house,where Shade agents are evaluating the area and discover Tony is dead.
After Tony's funeral,Trent learns from Rhodes that the person responsible is Alex Taylor,revealing that Alex was Tony's first protege,but unlike Trent when he first became Tony's protege,Alex was obsessed with being Iron man and he eventually took it to far,when he attacked a small village in Afghanistan,that was suspected of housing known terrorist,but no evidence was found,Alex attacked it anyway wiping out the entire village.
When Tony tried to turn him in,Taylor fought back and a fight broke out between the two,which resulted in the death of Tony's wife Pepper,afterward,Tony had Alex arrested and thrown into the Raft,making Alex want revenge against Tony,and now he'll go after Trent.
Trent decides to go after Taylor against Rhodes wishes,but Myers insists on doing so,making Rhodes promise to protect Lilly,Donnie decides to go with Trent to take Taylor down.
Trent,using his social media,sends out a message to Taylor,challenging him to a fight.
He and Donnie then set out for the remains of Stark's house to wait for him to respond.
Suddenly,multiple drones arrive and ambush Trent and Donnie and the two fight it out with the drones,when the two seem to have the upper hand,Taylor comes out of nowhere and attacks the two,he manages to paralyze Donnie and depowers Trent's suit,forcing him out of his suit.
Taylor then wraps Trent into a bear hug and sends him flying,revealing that his suit was being remote controlled and the suit self-destructs seemingly killing Trent in the process,Taylor then leaves Donnie outside the doorsteps of a hospital.
As the world mourns the loss of Trent Myers,Lilly and Rhodes try to help Donnie recover from his fight with Taylor and figure out his next move.
Lilly decides to look into who helped Taylor escape,while Rhodes decides to post a protective detail outside Donnie's room.
Trent,having survived his encounter with Taylor,wakes up in a infirmary on an island,with no way to contact Lilly or the others,he starts to try and regain his strength,as he tries to figure out what Taylor is planning,he is then found by Shade agent Mark Gomez,who was sent to help Trent figure out Taylor's next move and who helped him escape,Trent decides to keep the fact he's alive a secret,in the hopes it will keep his friends safe.
Arriving at the Raft,Trent and Gomez look into who helped Taylor escaped,while there they run into some people who are working with Taylor,that results in a fight and a high speed chase,Gomez manages to capture one and questions him about Taylor's plan,the thug states that Taylor simply wants to save the world,before killing himself with a cyanide tablet.
Lilly looks into security footage at the Raft and sees someone helping Taylor escape,zooming into the persons face,she is shocked to see it's Opus Sullivan,but before she can inform Rhodes,she is captured by Taylor's thugs.
Trent and Myers arrive at Rhodes house where he is helping Donnie work through his artificial legs and they try to figure out what Taylor is planning,Rhodes states that all Taylor wanted was to be the next and only Ironman,and that he'll do whatever it takes to protect the world.
Trent realizes that he plans to use the new space station satellite "The Last Resort"which is set to hit orbit that day and kill anyone he deems a threat to both himself and the Earth.
The group head out for the launch site,but stop at a location where Trent has a spare lab,in the event his got destroyed,he has Rhodes contact Lilly,only to learn that she's been captured by Taylor.
Trent tries to persuade Taylor to stop the launch for the sake of the innocent people that have done nothing to him or the planet,but he refuses.
Trent then suits up along with Donnie and the two set off for space,while Rhodes tries to get the launch cancelled,and Gomez sets out to take out Taylor's men.
The Last Resort launches into space,and as Trent and Donnie make their way up to the space station,Taylor sends out a legion of drones towards them,Trent has GRAYSON launch the "armada protocol"and has all his suits launch into space and the a fight breaks out the two factions.
While Donnie leads the armada against the drones,Trent breaks into the station to find Lilly and stop Taylor from launching the weapons on the Earth below.
Gomez manages to take out the guards and begins to hack into the Last Resorts defense systems,and launches a power outage throughout the station to shut it down,but Taylor launches a backup power source to jump start the weapons systems.
With the shields down,Taylor blasts a hole into the side of the station,sucking Lilly into space,Trent orders GRAYSON to launch the "Iron Lady" and a suit launches into space and attaches itself to Lilly,it then takes her back to Earth,with Donnie not far behind.
Trent then tells Rhodes to blast the Last Resort,forcing Rhodes to fire a nuke missile towards the satellite.
Trent manages to rip out Taylor's power source to his suit,and flies out of the station just as the missile hits,seemingly killing Taylor.
The blast sends Trent into the Earth atmosphere and crashes into the ocean,where he is eventually found by the Navy.
Five days later,Trent is in recovery at a hospital and makes amends with Lilly,he tells her he'll spend the rest of his life keeping her safe and he proposes to her,and Lilly says yes.
Later,Trent holds a press conference,commemorating the opening of Crusaders mansion,where the Crusaders will live and watch over the world and will be the true last resort.
