Back at the Castle house
Rick is working on some short stories for his children. He had been trying to think of some new stories idea's. But he was giving it; some thought about what he wanted to write about next. Sarah had brought him back to live. He knew that at one point he was so broken, that he hadn't given it much thought back then. But he felt healed in so many ways. He realized that his relationship with Kate had some good moments and not so good moments. He should have seen the signs all along, but he was a fool blind by love. He knew now looking back at all the times with different women over the years. He wasn't a saint at all, by any means necessary. Sure he had not made good decisions back then either. But, however when there was a problem in the relationship between him and Kate everyone took her side. Rick shouldn't have tried to force his way on her team. Another man would have sued at that point. Which he should have done in the first place. Then again he got knew the police force better. He shouldn't have came back after the summer was over with. Sure he could have stayed away, but he was a damn fool in love at the time. That he let everyone abused him. He could have walked out the door and left without a care in the world. He thought that after him and Kate got married that everything looked bright for the future or so he thought.
Going back to the first time he had meet Kate, sure she should have gotten a search warrant. But she could have handled that whole situation better. But then again, Kate don't think anything through always charging into things without thinking about it. Kate should have asked him for help back then. But she seemed to hold this grudges against him. Like she was angry at him for something that had happened in her life. But then again she was a fan too; so she could have been just as guilty as the person who had murdered that girl back then. He shouldn't have been arrested that day. Then once she was dating the robbery detective. Things took a turn for the worst Kate and her boyfriend would treat him like shit. No one had stood up and stopped either, but then again he shouldn't have put up with either. He could have gone to his friend the mayor and asked to go to a different precinct. That way he be out of Kate and her boyfriend way. Hell he had given up his childhood dream for her. He never should have done that, he should have gotten away when he had the chance. How much did he sacrifice. He saw how little Kate sacrifice in return, he hated to admitted it. But it was the truth, he had given up more than she did. All because he wanted to see her dreams and career come true. He had his hands on his face, he now realized that you can't make sacrifices for someone in a relationship if there not all in.
There was a loud knock on the front door, he got up to answer it. He was shocked at, who it was. "Kate, what are you doing here? How did you get my address?" He had so many questions for her. Kate don't answers him right away. Her whole body was shaking, she looked to be crying. He heard a light whispers coming from her. "I'm sorry, I'm so very sorry." Kate lifted up her head to look at him. She had looked, so broken and very lost. The old him; would have taken her into his arms and kissed her like never before. But right now, he wasn't very happy to see her. "Look, Kate I don't have time for your games." Kate was crying, so badly that she couldn't spoke at first. "Kate, I don't know what you want from me." Kate had gotten herself under control by now. "Can I come in, I need to talk to you. About what happened three years ago. You, deserve an explanation and nothing more. After I'm done, I will leave you to your new life." He was torn in that moment, did he really want her to explain to him after all they had been through together. But, then again maybe if she would explain her side of things. Both know that life couldn't go back the way it was. There was so many memories between them both. But it wouldn't change anything between them. That life between them was done and over with. "You, have until 5:30. But after this, will be the last time we see each other."
Kate had nodded her head and agreement, these would be the last time they see each other again. After inviting her inside, she goes to sit down on the small couch. Kate looked around saw, how much everything had changed between them. She wishes that she could go back to the beginning and changed how she had acted with him. You, can't change the past anymore then you can wish for it not to happen. Rick was sitting across from her. He had his arms crossed over his chest. She started off by telling him. How wrong she was to leave that night, she should have asked for his help. But no by her going all rouge she thought that everything would end soon. But no instead her obsession had cost her friends and family. The biggest regret that she had, was that she don't trust or believe in him enough. "What do you want me to say Kate. I have been looking back at our relationship. I'll tell you; it wasn't pretty looking back every sacrifice had made for our relationship. I gave up my childhood dream for you. Now I'm regarding that I did that. I mean sure I had, done some good at the precinct. But everything we were partner, friends, lover's our married you find an out of our relationship every time." Kate wanted to deny it; but she could see his point as well. She had done ever little and big then to destroy what they had together. Kate had gotten up and was looking at the time; it was almost up. She thought it would be best for her to go now. "I'm more sorry, for everything Rick. I hope you, have a very happy life with your family."
Rick had walked her to the door, he gave her a big hug. "You, took really good care of yourself Kate. I hope some day, you find what you are looking for." He let her go and saw her getting into her car and she waved good bye to him. He closed the door, on that chapter in his life. His family would be home soon.
The End
