Danny was really leaving in three hours. Steve looked at the time again. He was on the couch, not having moved in the last hour and a half. He sat there, unsure if he should head to the airport to send his partner off. He hadn't talked to Danny since the day Danny told him he was leaving. No matter how much Kono and Chin tried to convince him that Danny wasn't mad at him or that Danny wasn't leaving because he hated him, Steve wasn't buying it. Which was why, he was sitting aimlessly on his couch, contemplating if he should see Danny off at the airport. He wasn't sure that Danny would want to see him. What if he ended up upsetting Danny with his presence? Danny had clearly said he didn't want to see his face.

Steve stared at nothing in particular, his legs shaking nervously as the clock ticked by. Danny wouldn't want to see me. I shouldn't go. Chin, Kono and Lou would be there to send him off. He doesn't need me.. Steve thought to himself as his resolve strengthened. He knew he would regret his decision later, but if he went to the airport, he might not be able to let Danny leave.

He took out his phone typed out a message to Danny.

Hey.. Danny, I'm sorry I couldn't send you off.. Have a safe flight, alright. I'm sorry for.. For everything.. Love you, buddy, and I'm gonna miss you. Come back soon..

His thumb hovered over the send button for a few seconds before he finally decided to delete the message and throw his phone on the couch.

...

The airport was bustling with people and that made Danny slightly uneasy. Ever since the incident, he hadn't gone out much, especially not to places with so many people. It made him slightly self-conscious to be on a wheelchair but he knew he had to get over it. He was nervous about travelling alone, but he was glad to have his team there to send him off. Except, there was one particular giant missing.

"Danny, you alright?" Chin asked. He had noticed that Danny was looking around, trying to no avail to conceal his anxiety.

"Yeah.. Yeah. I'm alright."

"He's not coming." Kono said, reading between the lines. Steve had told her the day before that he wasn't coming. Kono had tried to convince him otherwise but it was evident now that Steve wasn't coming.

"Did I say anything?" Danny replied, trying not to reveal his emotions.

"You didn't have to. It's written all over your face." Lou said."You talked to him?"

"Umm.." Danny delayed. He shrugged his shoulders. "I guess not."

"Why don't you give him a call?" Kono said.

"I don't know.." Danny started, then thought better of it. "Hmm okay.. I'll call him."

Danny took out his phone and dialled Steve's number. The phone rang for a long while, but there was no answer. Danny deflated as his call went unanswered. He shook his head. "I guess he's busy..' Danny said.

His disappointment didn't last long as he heard a familiar voice call out his name. "Danno!"

Danny spun around and his face immediately lit up. "Hey, monkey!"

Grace ran up to him and gave him a hug.

"Ohh.. Ohh.." Danny chuckled in her tight embrace.

"Danno.. Do you really have to go?" Grace asked.

"Grace.." Danny stuttered. He couldn't find the right words. He wouldn't leave if he had a choice. Grace was the whole reason he came to Hawaii. If things hadn't turned out the way it did, he wouldn't ever leave without her.

"I'll miss you." She said.

"I'll miss you more." Danny said. "I'm sorry, Grace."

"Don't worry, Grace. Your dad will come back soon, right, Danny?" Chin interjected.

Danny faked a smile. Soon. He didn't know when soon was. "Yeah. Grace, I'll call often, alright?"

"I love you, Danno."

"Danno loves you toi." He said, hugging his daughter close as a stray tear made its way down his cheek. "Alright..umm I have to go soon. It's almost time for my flight." Danny said, squeezing Grace slightly tighter in his embrace before letting go. "Be good, alright. I'll miss you so much."

Grace wiped the tears on her face and nodded. "Rachel, take care of Grace for me." Danny said.

"I will. You just focus on yourself. I will make sure she's safe here." Rachel smiled.

"Don't worry, Danny. We will look out for Grace too." Chin answered.

Danny turned to his ohana, and smiled appreciatively. He never once thought that leaving this island could be this hard. He always loved Jersey. Always longed to go home. But now, he realised something which he had never thought of before. This place. This island had unconsciously become home for him. His daughter was here and his makeshift family too. And his partner.

"I don't doubt that. Thank you, Chin." Danny said. "Alright, guys.. Come on now." Danny said, opening his arms to invite them for a hug.

"Danny. Take care of yourself okay. And come back anytime. We are waiting for you." Lou said.

"I will." Danny promised. "You take care too, big guy."

Kono was next to hug him. She was silent, shedding tears as she lingered in his embrace.

"Hey.. Remember what I told you? Take care of Steve for me." Danny whispered.

"Uhuh." Kono nodded.

"Danny, don't worry about anything here. Just get back on your feet and come back, okay? Everything will be waiting for you just as it was." Chin said.

"Okay." Danny said simply. He knew that if he said anything more, he wouldn't be able to stop the waterworks that came with it.

Danny scanned the airport once more. "Alright..umm.. I need to get going." He said. They said their goodbyes and Danny wheeled himself over to the departure gate.

"Danny!"

Danny stopped abruptly, hearing the all too familiar voice. He turned around and saw Steve panting and jogging towards him.

"Steve.. What.." Danny asked. "You alright?"

"Danny.. I'm sorry.." Steve started. "I know you probably wouldn't want to see me.. But I couldn't stay away, Danny.."

"Steve." Danny repeated. "Why do you think I wouldn't want to see you?"

"You.."

"No.. Wait. I'm sorry about what I said the other day." Danny said.

"I'm the one who's sorry."

"Look, I gotta go. But listen to me, Steve. I'm not mad at you. I don't blame you. So stop with this guilt trip, okay? I need to go for my sanity and yours. We both need time away from each other, alright?"

"But Danny.."

"Steve, I will be alright." Danny said. "Just promise me you will be too."

Steve took a deep breath and nodded.

"Thank you, buddy. I appreciate what you did for me all this time. Now it's time to take care of yourself." Danny said again.

"You will come back, right?" Steve asked.

"You do anything dumb, I'll take the next flight back to give you a kick in the ass."

Steve smiled at that.

"Okay, I.. Uh I really have to go now." Danny said reluctantly. "And Steve?"

"Yeah, Danno?"

"I'm glad you came." Danny said.

"Me too." Steve said.
