Angel sighed contentedly on the porch. This was one of the rare moments she found herself alone. For once she wasn't running around with Scamp, chatting with the sisters or being bathed by Jim Dear. Life indoors was different from the streets, but also better in everyway imaginable. How Scamp once preffered the streets over a cozy home and loving family, she'd never know.
Even though she felt good about this massive Victorian home, she couldn't help feel worried that anyday the family would decide that they wouldn't want her and put her back out onto the streets. Those fears had mostly subsided by now, especially after all the conversations she'd had with the rest of the family as of late. She was starting to feel more and more like a part of the family with each passing day.
First Bath and a Ribbon
"That ribbon looks so good on you!"
Angel turned to see one of three cocker spaniel pups, admiring her from different angles. "Strange." She thought, "These are Scamp's sisters."
Suddenly another dog jumped into the conversation, this one louder than the other, "Yeah! It looks great!"
The third one didn't seem to have anything to say, sitting on the sidelines keeping quiet.
"Thanks" Angel responded, unsure of what else to say. So much had happened that she never really took in her surroundings, shyness was starting to come in.
The first one to talk, the one with the red collar, spoke again, "You know I'd kill for something like that, this collar is so yesterday..." She trailed off into a quick thought and then quickly said, "Oh! My name's Collette, that's Danielle and that's Annette."
"Nice to meet you all."
Before any of the sisters could talk again, they found themselves being splashed with water from the bath above.
"Hold still Scamp, I'm almost done." Jim Dear cried in frustration.
Collette shook her head at the commotion, "Oh brother, I thought you'd have learnt how to take a bath by now."
Angel rolled her eyes at the struggling Scamp, while Danielle laughed. She couldn't help, but notice Annette roll her eyes as well. That was a dog, she'd have to speak with more in future.
You're the best thing that's ever happened to my son
Angel watched as the graceful Lady approached her. How she admired this dog!
Growing up, she never had a proper mother figure. Lady seemed to be as good a mother as any. She hoped that Lady could be a mother figure to her, as much as she wanted to ask, shyness always took over.
She wasn't sure why Lady was walking over to her now, she only hoped that she hadn't done anything wrong.
Her fears subsided when Lady gave her a friendly smile and sat down next to her.
"Scamp is getting better and better everyday." The motherly dog said.
"That's good." She responded. "I was really worried about him."
Lady looked at Angel carefully, "He'll be fine, always has been."
"The stress must really get to you."
She nodded, "It used to, all the time."
"Used to?"
"Used to...until he came back with you."
"Me?"
To Angel's surprise, Lady gave her a small nuzzle and whispered in her ear, "Thank you...you're the best thing that's ever happened to my son."
The Legendary Tramp
She woke with a yawn. Blinking herself awake she looked over to her right to see Scamp still sleeping. A lot had happened the previous day, so she wasn't concerned with waking him. Carefully jumping out the bed she looked back to confirm her assumption. He was still out cold.
"You sleep okay?" A warm male voice caught her attention.
She nodded shyly. Being alone with Tramp still made her nervous. What with him being the father figure amongst the dogs.
"Yeah, I remember when I got off the streets." He glanced at her and continued, "Most comfortable I ever was."
Angel nodded again. "This place is very comfortable sir."
"You can drop the formalities, call me whatever you want." He said to her with a kind smile.
She nodded yet again, feeling her nervousness slink away.
"Y'know I'm always worrying about Scamp." Angel looked at him closely as he said these words. "I felt pretty bad when he ran away, thought I was too hard on him." She watched curiously on as he slowly stood up, careful not to wake Lady. "Thank you for looking out for him, makes me feel a lot better."
Angel finally found the confidence to smile. "No problem... Mr. Tramp."
Tramp shrugged. "If the name works for you. I'm glad you're part of this family."
She watched him walk away with a new sense of happiness in herself.
