Chapter Nine

Speur

Guards began pouring into the courtyard from both sides. Sg3 each had a body in their hands. Dropping them they ran to get their weapons, but they were not fast enough. The guards carried fire sticks with them. They used them to stun Reynolds and his men. It took three guards to hold each man.

Romach held on tight to Daniel as several guards rushed in with their fire sticks in hand. Janet stared at the gun on the floor, she rushed to get it, but a guard was faster. Grabbing it, she back pedaled to Romach. She was shoved aside, as a rampaging Keary ran past her. He stood in front of Varan's body.

"You killed him, you ruined everything!" he screamed. "I knew I could not trust you. Bring him in!"

Two guards dragged Brendan in and threw him in front of Keary. He kicked Brendan in the side. "You said they would not be a problem, and that you would fix it. Is this how you fix a problem?"

"I am sorry, my lord," Brendan gasped.

"Kill him!" Keary screamed.

One of the guards pulled out a knife and stabbed Brendan in the chest.

Keary began to madly pace back and forth. "I promised them, I made a promise that I would not interfere, that they could have my people. In return they gave me eternal life. You ruined it for me, they will take back my wonderful magic box," he lamented.

"Listen to him," Romach shouted to the guards. "He betrayed you, he betrayed us all to the dearrs sula. The bodies he sent out, they were ..."

"Shut up, Romach!" Keary bellowed. "I am still the Loach, I still rule here. I can fix this. All I have to do is fix it. I'll offer them the male, Varan said his god wanted him."

He stepped up to Janet. His head madly tilted from left to right. "The woman, she'll find a life in my brothel. She is not young, but she will be enough to satisfy."

"No!" Romach angrily roared. Pulling out his knife, he charged Keary. "You will not touch her, Keary! I will kill you first."

The guards grabbed Romach, they held the fire sticks to his back. He screamed and dropped his knife. As they continued to shock him, he fell on the ground.

"Give me that!" Keary growled. Taking the stick, he jammed it in Romach's chest.

"I am the Loach," Keary ranted. He dug the stick in his chest. Romach jerked as he held it there. "How dare you speak to me in that manner. I will have my horses pull you apart. I will skin you alive. I will…" Keary began choking. He clutched an arrow in his chest.

Dearg stood by the arch, holding his bow. When the guards came, he hid behind the gate. He used his bow to finally enact his revenge against the man that took his voice.

"My box," Keary gasped. Falling to his knees he looked up at his guards. "My precious box, I need to get to my box, take me there." Falling on the ground, his fingers dug into the dirt, as he tried to crawl his way to the castle.

He looked up at Daniel. "I cannot die, I am to live forever." Daniel saw his head drop. The great and crazy Loach Keary was finally dead.

Once the Loach died the guards was confused. They really didn't know what to do, their Loach was dead. Feeling their grasp lessen, Janet and Daniel pulled themselves out of the guard's grip. They ran to Romach. Kneeling next to him, Janet placed her fingers on his neck. Feeling no pulse, she listened to his heart.

"Janet, he can't be dead," Daniel said.

Janet looked back, she saw Keary still clutching the fire stick. "His heart," she said. "I think that thing stopped his heart."

Raising her hand in the air, she pounded it on Romach's chest. Lacing her fingers, she pressed her palms on his chest and began pumping her hands up and down. After ten pumps. She pressed his nose and began breathing into his mouth.

She repeated her actions again. She listened for his heart. "Come on, Romach," she shouted. "Don't you die on me now. We never went on that date."

She pumped his chest ten more times. Breathing into his mouth, she was about to try pumping again when he gasped.

Janet released a sigh of relief. "Thank god, he's alive."

"Oh, my chest," Romach groaned. He clutched his chest. "Someone has been dancing on it with lead shoes."

Daniel patted Romach on the shoulder. "That was Janet, friend Romach. She brought you back from the dead. She also kissed you."

"I was helping you breathe," she quickly explained.

Romach looked up at Janet. He feigned a look of pain. "I still do not feel well, I think you should kiss me again."

"Just rest," she told him. "It's going to take you time to recover."

Daniel noticed that the guards remained in their original position. Each one looked to the other as if to ask, 'What do I do?' Daniel tried to help Romach stand up. They ended up helping each other. Janet supported Romach.

"Listen to me," Romach said to the guards. "The visitors, they found the truth. Our Loach lied to us, he used us. The Dearrs Sula, they never truly left our world. The lianna Janet found that there is no plague. My friend, Daniel can prove that the towns Ceannard's drugged our sick, to make them appear dead. And the Loach, he sold them to the dearrs sula. His payment was extending his life. All these years we've been ruled by the same man. A man that grew more insane with each passing year. Put down your weapons. The Loach is dead. We must now let the towns know of his, and their Ceannard's betrayal. Our world is called Speur, let us truly make it so."

Romach saw the guards one by one, lay down their weapons. They released Reynolds and his men. Slowly they walked out of the courtyard without a glance to their fallen Loach.

"You'll make a good leader," Janet said.

Romach tried to laugh, he grimaced from the pain in his chest. "Leader, me?"

"I always knew that," Daniel said. "From the first time I met you,"

Romach shook his head in wonder. "I will talk about that." A sly grin grew as he said, "During my date with, Janet."

Janet finally relinquished. "I'll think about it."

"At least you did not say no."

Daniel saw Dearg walking to them. He stuck out his hand. "I want to thank you. You saved us all."

Dearg shook his hand. Smiling, Dearg pointed to Keary. He bowed his head at Daniel. It was his way of thanking him for giving him a chance to kill the Loach.

"Daniel," Reynolds said. He was standing by the DHD. "I'm dialing home. You can decide on what we're going to do next while I let General Hammond know what's been going on."

Dialing the gate, Daniel saw a sad look on Romach's face. "Are you leaving, friend Daniel?"

"For now. But I promise I'll be back, there's still a lot left to do here."

"Yes," Janet said. "Daniel is very good at negotiating treaties. I'm sure he'll be able to help you set up a new form of government."

Seeing the look Romach was giving Janet, Daniel pointed to Reynolds. "I think Reynolds is calling me." He slowly walked to him.

Once he left, Romach placed his arms on Janet's shoulders. "You are leaving too?"

"Not right away. I still have some tending to do with my new patient." Her hand gently caressed his face. "But when I do leave, I promise I'll be back. I still have to find a cure for that virus. I also have a date with a new leader on this world."

"Really?" Romach said. "And do I know him?"

Janet leaned in, "Very well."

Janet stood on tip toe, her arms reached up and wrapped around his neck. Pulling her close to him, Romach tilted his head and kissed her. It started out as a small kiss, but to his surprise Janet returned the kiss. Pulling back, they rested their foreheads on each other

"I have another thing to thank, friend Daniel for. He brought you here." Janet kissed him again. He held her tight, he whispered, "I should have warned you, I make friends fast, and fall in love faster. I cannot wait for your return."

She hugged him back. "I'll be back, Romach. I promise."

One month later Daniel walked into Janet's infirmary. He nodded to Siler as he walked by him on crutches. Janet wanted to check on his wound. Once they returned from Speur, she reopened the wound and treated it properly. He took off his glasses and sat on a chair. She used a small flashlight to check his eyes. He took his shirt off. She lifted his black t-shirt and examined the scar. On a table behind her Daniel saw a pot with a purple flower.

"I see you brought something back from your date with Romach." He pointed to the pot

"Yes, he gave it to me. He said to remind me of keeping our second date."

"That was a long first date."

"Yes," Janet happily smiled. "Two wonderful days. He told me the first thing he wants to do is open up the schools."

"We can help him with that."

"Oh, he also said for me to give this to his, friend Daniel."

Janet gave him a peck on the cheek. Shyly smiling, Daniel said, "Um, when you see him, give it back to him."

"My pleasure." She checked the scar. "This looks like it healed just fine."

Tucking his t-shirt in, he pulled his shirt back on. "When are you going back for your second date?"

"I have some vacation time coming. I received the okay from General Hammond. In two weeks, I'll be in Paradise. Being Chief Medical officer does have its privileges."

Daniel saw a faraway look in her eyes. He knew she was thinking of Speur. "Janet, I never saw you so happy as when you were helping the towns people."

Janet stared at the flower. "When first I received the offer to be stationed here, I didn't hesitate. I jumped at the chance. This is what I dreamed all my life of doing. I've made sacrifices, but I've helped so many." Her eyes sadly curved, as she looked at Daniel. She patted him on the hand. "And I've seen so many die."

She took in a deep breath. "But my time on Speur, the people, Romach. I've been thinking, Daniel."

"I have five years left before I can retire. The Military has given so much to me, I never had a thought past my next patient. I couldn't imagine doing anything else. But now, I'm beginning to see beyond my next patient. I see that I may have a future waiting for me when my time of service is done."

Daniel placed his hand on her shoulder. "I hear that Speur is looking for a good old-fashioned town doctor."

"Yes, they are," Janet said. "I spoke to Romach, I told him that I couldn't just leave. I gave an oath to service before self. Romach said he understood. He said that he would wait for me."

"He's a good man, Janet."

"Yes, he is, and you saw that in him from the beginning."

"I'm glad things worked out, for the both of you."

Standing, Daniel said, "I meant to tell you. Jack said that there's a camera crew coming next week. They're supposed to be doing a documentary about what we do at Stargate command."

"A camera crew? I imagine Colonel O'Neill is not too happy about that."

"No one is, but they're here on the Presidents orders."

"I'll make sure to stay out of their way."

Daniel put his glasses on. "When you next see Romach, tell him no more bar fights. I'm not there to help him win. Have a good day, Janet."

"You too, Daniel."

Janet turned around. Leaning over she smelled her flower. She happily smiled, as she thought of her vacation with Romach. "Paradise," she whispered. "I can't wait."

On a small hill, outside of the Caisteal on Speur, sit's a small monument. Purple flowers surrounding it are lovingly tended. On the monument is carved the words,

Janet

Death separated us,

but it will bring us together again

Forever yours, Romach
