Hello again! Hope you enjoyed that last chapter-this one is definitely silly fluff. I briefly mentioned in my story Memories Lost about Beastboy and Raven eloping-so decided to just go for it. Anyway, thank you again for reading, commenting, favoriting, and following my stories. I don't own Teen Titans and hope you enjoy!
Chapter 10: Just go for it-15
"Okay Logan. You got this…just be cool." Garfield shrugged his shoulders and cracked his neck before chuckling to himself. "Who am I kidding? I am always cool." Taking one breath to calm his nerves, he began to walk forward on the shore. Digging his left hand into his pocket, he fingered the small box inside as he walked toward the love of his life.
Raven stood looking at the city in the distance, the wind blowing away from her face. Movement caught her eye as she turned to Garfield. Though she didn't smile, her face lit up. Gar's heart skipped a beat as he nervously wiped his hands on his pants. "Penny for your thoughts?" He asked trying to act suave, winking at her. She merely shook her head.
"I am not willing to part with the one penny I have. It was a gift." Gar smiled at her words. The penny he gave her the day her dad destroyed the world and they saved it again-he remembered. He stopped next to her and looked out toward the city too. She was going to say yes-why was he so nervous? Evidently his nerves were coming off strong-despite him learning to turn them off for his empathic girlfriend. "You okay? I know this was Terra and your spot."
TERRA? Why would she bring her up now?! He honestly hadn't thought about her in years! "What-no! Terra? I-haha-no. Nope. I just think of you, Rae. See?" He waved his hands around them, gesturing to the air. "No Terra. Only Raven!"
Raising an eyebrow at him, she nodded gently before turning back around toward the ocean. "I see…" A small grin grew on her face.
"What? You were messing with me?"
"It wasn't my intention but it is fun to see you riled up."
"Well, I already am riled up!" Gasping, he clasped a hand over his mouth. Raven's smile disappeared into a look of concern.
Tucking a piece of hair behind her ear, she grew serious. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought her up…What's wrong?"
Taking a deep breath, he fumbled in his pocket before looking her right in the eye. Her face was full of love and concern-something she never would have shown before their relationship. Taking one of her hands in his, Gar gulped as she furrowed her brow. "Nothing. Nothing's wrong." Her face ticked in slight relief as he continued. "Actually, nothing has been wrong for a while but really nothing is right. Wait…everything is right. I mean-let me start over."
She tightened her grip on his hand, now looking confused. "Did you get electrocuted yesterday during our mission?"
"What-no! I just-ahhh, I've never been good at this!" Impulsively, he whipped the ring out of his pocket and slammed down onto one knee. Closing his eyes, he held up the ring almost like an offering. Ears twitching, he heard Raven's breath intake sharply, followed by silence.
Garfield waiting as long as he could (and let's be honest-it isn't that long) and he popped open his eyes to glance up at Raven. Raven held a hand over her mouth, a tear rolling down her cheek. "Uhh…Rae?" Suddenly, she took her hand away to reveal a smile-the special smile she only reserved for him. Quickly wiping away the tear, she nodded at Gar. His heart began to hammer in his chest but with excitement. "So, do you have a question for me?"
"Oh-right! Yeah-uhh, Raven? I love you and-hmm-want to spend my life with you and stuff so will you-ahh, marry me?"
"Do you even have to ask?"
Blinking rapidly, Gar stood up and looked down at Raven straight into her eyes. "Is that a yes?" Raven's grin grew even bigger as she merely dipped her head yes. "You said yes!" Crying out in excitement, Garfield slipped the small ring out of the box and onto Raven's finger. Uncharacteristically, Raven threw her arms around him, slightly shaking in his hug. His smile was so wide then when he kissed her on the cheek, his fang poked her.
As he pulled away, she gently placed her hand with the ring over his cheek. "I knew you'd say yes!" He laughed, his face hurting from his enormous smile.
"Is that why you're shaking?"
"Wait-I thought that was you!"
Raven let out a chuckle, lacing her fingers in his hand as she tugged him forward. "I love you, Garfield Mark Logan. Should we go tell our friends?"
"For sure! But you gotta tell Vic!" Raven just chuckled as Gar looped his arm through hers and began to count off all the things that needed to be done. "Oh man, I'm so excited! So, I know you don't want anything big but we got so much planning to do!" Gar began to tick off with his fingers as they walked toward the Tower, tripping once over the rocky shore. "First-who's room we're going to live in! I know we already talked about it but since we're getting married we got to plan! Then we have to find a venue. Think about who to invite. Vegetarian friendly food. Invitations. Cake. Your dress. Flowers-uhh, what's that look?"
With a jerk, Raven pulled them to a halt. Her eyes were enormous and her face grew paler than normal. Garfield turned around to face her, placing her hands on her shoulders. "Rae? Raven? Are you sure you want to do this?"
Her focus snapped onto him as she narrowed her eyes at him. "Gar, stop doubting yourself. Let me get one thing straight-I love you more than anyone in the world."
It was his turn to look confused. "So what's the problem?"
"Why don't we just go for it?"
Gar's mind went blank. Who was this woman and what had she done with Raven? "What?"
The corners of her mind twitched as she shrugged her shoulders. Shyly cocking her head, she looked up at him through her lashes. "Why not just go ahead and get married today?" Huh. The gears in his head slowly began turning, turning the corners of his mouth up like the gears of a clock. Gar slowly began nodding his head in agreement.
"Yeah. Okay. You sure about this, Rae?"
She tugged at her hood as she bit her lip to hide her smile. "Yes. I dislike attention and excessive emotions and lots of people talking to me. I just want to be married to you."
Wiggling his eyebrows, Garfield smirked at her. "Can't resist this bod-huh? Ready to finally do-you know!"
"Oh, I take it back."
Laughing good-naturedly, he smiled at her and kissed her knuckles. "Who knew you were the romantic one?" Suddenly gasping, he whirled around to have his back to her. "Crap! I can't see you!"
He could hear the annoyance in her voice. "What are you talking about?"
Gesturing into the air, he slapped his hands over his eyes and turned to face her again without seeing her. "A groom can't see the bride on the wedding day-it's bad luck!" Suddenly, something splattered on his face. Garfield gasped-no, not rain! "That doesn't count!"
He felt Raven's small hands slowly spin him back around and then her back press against his. Her fingers laced with his and the pressure of her ring caused his heart to skip. "On Azarath, rain is a sign of good luck. It symbolizes a fruitful marriage." A grin split his face as he opened his eyes. Maybe it was reverse-maybe she was the optimistic one.
"Haha, you're right! Okay, so if we're gonna do this we gotta have a few things. You need a dress and we need a venue and rings." He listed off, mentally checking the necessities.
She squeezed his hand hard, her ring digging in. "Cake. There is no wedding without cake."
"And that's why I'm marrying you." Avoiding looking like her, he began to walk forward. "Okay, I got the cake and the rings."
Gar heard Raven shuffle forward then go silent. She must have been flying off. "I know a place." She called to him. "I'll tell you and the team all at once. Meet me there at 4. But…don't tell anyone yet."
"See you there. I'll be the one in white-oh wait, that'll be you!" He heard Raven chuckle at his joke as he shifted into an eagle and soared up to his room. Tapping the panel on the window with his beak, he flew in, landing as a human. The next minute was a blur of grabbing a bag and finding all the pieces to his best suit. The last thing he needed was a tie-oh, there it is! Sniffing it, he shrugged. Better than no tie. Finally-he was ready. Just as he zipped out the door, he slammed into something hard and landed on his butt. "What the-oh, hey guys!" His voice grew an octave higher, reminding him of his teenage days.
Standing over him were Kori and Victor, wiping themselves down with towels while looking at him incredulously. "Oh, Friend Garfield! We have not seen you all morning! We have just finished a most vigorous training session and are now about to partake in a meal. Would you care to join us at the mall of shopping for lunch at the food court?"
"Uhh-no." Scrambling up, he threw the bag over his shoulder and shuffled around them.
Victor caught Kori's eye before crossing his arms and stepping in front of Gar. "And where do you think you're going in such a hurry, Green Bean?"
Gar had to think fast. "Nowhere. Not here. Mind your own business, Chrome Dome." Shifting into a serpent, Gar took the bag into his mouth and slithered between their feet. He heard Vic call after him, saying something about Gar needing to change his green diet because it made him go all the time but he ignored him. When he finally got to a window, he changed into a bird and flew toward the city.
Finally, after looking for thirty minutes, Gar found a jewelry store near downtown Jump City. Shifting back into his human form, he licked his hand and straightened up his hair. He mentally told himself to look grown up-despite now being well over six feet, he was still skinny and looked underage. He walked into the store, slightly bowing to the clerk. Ignoring the man's confused look, he began to browse.
"No not that one. Nope. Nope. Definitely not. No. And they call that a ring?" He looked through each ring but hated each one. He just couldn't-oh wait! "Wow." He picked up a pair of rings, the female wedding band encircled with amethysts the exact color of Raven's eyes. The other band was just a simple gold band exactly like the one his father used to wear. Tears began to blur his vision as he quickly brushed them away.
A shuffling movement caught his attention. He turned to see the clerk eyeing him with a strange look. "Good day, sir. Are you alright?"
Tucking his lips into his mouth for a moment, Gar nodded. "Yeah. I just wish my dad were here, ya know?"
"Umm, no. Are you going to go ahead and pay for this already or not? You have literally looked at all our rings and have not made a positive comment on one."
Brow twitching with annoyance, Gar finally turned his attention away from the rings. "Do you want my business or not?" The clerk reddened before turning away and walking back to his register. Even though Gar knew he wasn't supposed to hear the guy, he heard him mutter, 'Can you just pick one already?'
After purchasing the rings, Gar made his way down a couple blocks to the most famous bakery in town-that he wasn't sure the Titans were welcomed back to after Kori blew it up when planning Karen and Vic's wedding-but he wasn't Kori. Things were starting to look up! Rain or no rain-this was his lucky day. As he stepped into the shop, the aroma of baking cakes and sugar caused him to drool.
Wiping his mouth, he began to make his way over to the different cakes out for testing. The bakers yelled for him to go ahead and try some pieces before they could help him. Gar looked at one that looked to be chocolate and smiled to himself. Taking a sliver, he put it into his mouth-
"EWWW, NO! UGH! GROSS! GROSS! GROSS! WHY?!"
It was meat! Wiping off his tongue with a napkin, he dumped it into the trash bin before swiveling around. No one saw. Seriously-who eats a wedding cake out of meat?! "Okay, it's fine. It's not a bad sign. You just-ate meat. That's all. That's-oh no…" His communicator rang. It was Raven. "Hey, Rae! Sooo…how's it goin'?"
"Umm…good I think. Did you get the rings and the cake?"
"Totally, dude!" He wiggled the ring bag in his hand even though she couldn't see it. "I got the rings and am at the cake shop now. So we just need a venue."
"Good." He could hear the relief in her voice and he detected excitement. "I got the venue covered. How is everything?...Gar? You okay?"
He had been gagging on the meat taste in his mouth but nodded his head at her on the screen. He kept telling himself that this was not a bad sign. "Yes-no bad signs or omens or anything! It's great! See you at four!" He hung up quickly, gagging some more. He turned to see all four bakers staring at him with annoyed looks. "Uhhh-wow these cakes are delicious! Do you have any that are raspberry lemon?"
After he stuffed ten different types of cakes down his mouth in under three minutes, he realized that it was almost 3pm. He hastily bought a cake, boxed it up, and dashed out of the door. Okay, Logan. Just enough time to spare. You got the cake. You got the rings-Slapping his hand over his pocket, he frantically began looking around himself. The rings.
"Damn it!"
He literally had it in his hands a second ago. He groaned to himself. Those rings were NOT cheap. This wasn't another bad sign…right? Sighing, he dashed back to the jewelry store. Slamming open the door, he winced-but there was no time for apologies. "Ahh, the man of mediocre taste has returned. Was the ring not god enough for a superhero's liking?"
Growling under his breath at the man, he walked forward. "Dude, I was super nice to you. I can't help my girlfriend is picky! I gotta get set of rings!"
The clerk smirked with such malice that Gar's skin crawled with annoyance. Biting back a retort, Gar counted to ten before answering. "Look, I'm sorry if I came off as rude but-"
"FREEZE!"
Suddenly, the two men swirled around and gasped in surprise. Gar kept his cool-he was a superhero after all but you couldn't escalate a robbery with a shotgun pointed directly at your head. The robber had a ski mask covering his whole face. Rolling his eyes, Gar shook his head. How unoriginal. The man rushed toward the clerk who cried out in surprise. The robber completely ignored Gar. He huffed. Seriously? Did he not know who he was?! How many green guys were there in the world?!
"Put those diamonds in the bag! NOW!" The robber poked the clerk in the back with the gun, causing him to whimper.
"Are you not going to help me?" He asked Gar through gritted teeth and fearful eyes.
Garfield sighed as the robber looked at him in confusion before turning to the superhero. "Oh, now you want my business." Before the robber could react, Gar dropped the cake on the ground and sprang at him, shifting into an anaconda in midair. Wrapping himself around the poor guy's body, he squeezed, binding his arms to his sides. They toppled onto the ground, the robber yelling explicit words that would have turned Victor's ears red. Shifting back into himself, Gar pushed a pressure point on the guy's neck (just like Dick had taught him) and he went out like a light.
Pushing himself up, he brushed off his clothes and grabbed the cake and his bag from the ground. "So-we were talking about some rings."
The clerk was unnerved but some of his pompous personality began to come back. "I still can't give you any rings."
Ungrateful little… "You're welcome by the way. I gotta go. I'm going to be late!"
"What?! But what about-"
"Just call the cops! He shouldn't wake up for about 15 minutes…Give or take." Gar called over his shoulder as he dashed out the door. He saw a clock outside flash 3:47. No! He didn't have any rings! His communicator dinged and Gar looked to see a location about five blocks away. Crap. This was not a good sign! Sighing in defeat, he realized that they would just have to buy rings later…
Shuffling down the sidewalk, he turned down some alleyways and crossed a street. Glancing up, he noticed a familiar chapel that he couldn't quite place in front of him. Standing in nice 'church' clothes were the rest of his family. Karen and Kori were quietly talking while Dick and Victor glanced his way. When Dick noticed him, he waved with something in his hand. Suddenly, Gar gasped and stopped short. "Where did you get that?!"
It was the bag of rings. It was still unopened as Dick shrugged. "Some guy from a bakery downtown called in lost rings. The police realized it was purchased in your name so we just grabbed them." Dick's eyebrow quirked as he smirked. Gar smiled-he had already guessed they were eloping.
"Dude-what is going on? You cut into my monster truck rally time!" Victor crossed his arms. Evidently he had not figured it out.
"Wait. Cake. Rings. A chapel?" Karen gasped, slapping a hand to her forehead. "No way-are you guys getting married?!" Just as Garfield nodded once, the sound of loud squealing at a pitch only bats and shape-shifting heroes could hear sounded from Kori. He thrust his hands over his ears in pain as she began to scream in excitement.
"EEEPPPP! OH SUCH A JOYOUS OCCASION! WE MUST CELEBRATE! OH I AM SO OVERCOME I CANNOT THINK OF WHAT ODE TO SING TO YOU-"
"KORI!" Everyone shouted at her, Karen slapping a hand over her mouth. Kori squealed again behind her hand, causing everyone to chuckle in spite of themselves. Gar slowly took his hands off his ears, his head ringing in pain. Almost seeing double, he gasped in pain as Kori threw her arms around him. Struggling for air, he gasped, "Star-can't-breath-dying-"
As she released him, Gar felt a huge pat on his back as Dick smiled at him and Karen looped her arm through her husband's. "So wait. No offense or anything, but can Raven go in a church if she's half demon?"
Dick clapped Gar on the back again as he dipped his head to the church. "We've been here before-or at least Raven and I have. When she froze time. She'll be fine."
A shadow passed over Gar's face as he looked to see Victor standing menacingly over him. The sun glinted off his robotic eye, causing Garfield to sweat nervously. "Did you knock up my little sister?" He asked, crossing his mechanical arms across his large chest.
"Victor Stone! It is not the wedding of shot-guns…wait, is there a little bumgorf on the way?" Kori almost let out another high-pitched squeal but Gar beat her to it.
"What-NO! No-we actually have never done…that before…and, well…why am I telling you guys this? It's my wedding day!" Suddenly, Garfield's throat felt extremely dry. He tugged at his collar of his uniform and cracked his neck a couple of times. "Wow…my wedding day…and I just proposed this morning…Is it hot out here or is it just me?"
All his friends gently placed a hand on him, even Victor's overprotective glare gone from his face. "Come on, Gar." Victor said, guiding him up the steps. "Let's get you changed inside."
The next few minutes were a blur to him as he got cleaned up. Dick even sprayed some spray down his throat, causing him to gag. Karen dragged him up the aisle, the skirt of her long dress swishing to the sound of the pianist. A kindly priest told Gar congratulations and asked if he had the rings. Dick took the bag out of Gar's hands and handed it to the priest because he was too shocked to hear a word the old man said.
Finally, the priest, the musician, and the males of the team stood in the empty chapel. With some cue Gar didn't see, the music began to swell. First Karen walked down the aisle, earning a wolf whistle from Victor. She elbowed him as she walked by but winked reassuringly at Gar. Kori followed next, smiling as she sprinkled petals of some flower he couldn't identify behind her. As she moved to stand next to Karen across from him, Garfield's heart began to pound in his chest. This couldn't be real. He never thought he'd ever get married in his life-much less to Raven! Was this really happening?
The moment she walked through the door, his heart skipped a beat. He thought only Raven (and maybe a few other superheroes but he wasn't about to count) could stop time-but somehow it slowed for him. Raven was in a simple knee-length white sundress that could have been bought anywhere-and she still was the most beautiful woman in the world to him. A huge smile split her face-most uncharacteristic of her. But then again-it wasn't the most normal of days for them. Gar couldn't believe this was happening. All the bad signs-the rain, eating meat, losing the rings-all of it didn't matter. What mattered was the woman would he would spend the rest of his life with.
A tear spilled out of his left eye and he quickly brushed it away. He felt a jab poke his arm and he glanced over at Victor and Dick grinning ear to ear at him. As he turned back, Raven was finally in front of him. Dick took a step forward as the priest asked who gave her away, Dick said, "Her family and I."
The rest of the short, simple ceremony went on like any other wedding. They said the basic vows of 'til death do us part' and exchanged rings. Raven admired her ring and raised an approving eyebrow at him. He shrugged in fringe modesty. When the priest finally pronounced them man and wife, Gar dipped her in a kiss, causing everyone to cheer.
They laughed as they walked down the aisle as the new Mr. and Mrs. Logan, Raven's face red with joy. Garfield couldn't stop smiling as they exited the church into the drizzling rain. Their family followed closely behind to hug their necks.
"Well alright!" Victor kissed Raven on the cheek and threw his arms around Garfield. Gar's face hurt from smiling so much.
"What a most wonderous occasion! I am the happy for you!" Kori crushed the two of them into one of her famous hugs. Dick merely smiled as he gently hugged the newlyweds.
"Me too! We gotta celebrate!" Karen clapped her hands happily.
Raven smiled up at Gar, her laced fingers sweaty against his. She smiled a small smile-telling him she was the happiest she had ever been in her life. Gar grinned. They were married. They were MARRIED! "I feel like I just proposed!" He exclaimed, kissing her forehead.
Giving him a knowing look, she shook her head. "You did. This morning."
The whole team laughed, causing Garfield to chuckle. Karen pulled out her phone and stopped someone who was walking by to take their picture. Gar held Raven close as the whole team crowded around them. Dick said, "Say-Bun in the oven." Everyone howled in laughter as Gar sputtered furiously and Raven chuckled despite herself. Karen inspected the picture and nodded in approval before taking one more of just Gar and Raven.
"You have to have pictures-it's your wedding day!"
"We know, Karen. Thank you." Raven smiled-Gar had never seen her smile so much before.
Suddenly, Victor clapped a hand on his shoulder and began to direct them forward. "Well, Cy says it's time to celebrate with some pizza. What do y'all say?" Everyone exclaimed in agreement and began to follow the cybernetic man down the sidewalk toward the pizzeria.
A tug at Garfield's hand caused him to stop and spin around. Raven was looking at him with a strange look on her face. She slowly walked up to him and closed her eyes, gently resting her forehead against his. Garfield closed his eye too, taking in the moment with her. "I love you, Garfield." She murmured where only his animal hearing could pick up her voice. She pulled away and looked him in the eye. "I can't believe…we're married!"
"If someone had told me four years ago I would be marrying Raven-I would have told them they were crazy or had taken too many stankballs to the head."
A small laugh caused Garfield to grin-that was all he wanted since he first met her. At first it had just been a challenge-now it was just natural. "I would have said the same thing." She chuckled before gently placing a kiss on his lips. It was chaste but sweet. He smiled against her lips and give her one quick kiss before letting her guide him back toward their friends. "Let's go, Mr. Roth."
Cocking his head, he pulled her to a stop again, causing her to roll her eyes. "Actually, it's Mrs. Logan now."
Raven nodded before turning around to walk away. "We can talk about it."
I hope you enjoyed that cheesy chapter. Honestly, cheesy is so fun to write! Plus-who doesn't love a sweet wedding story. Thank you again for commenting, following, favoriting, and most of all reading my story. I appreciate all of you and hope you continue to enjoy my stories. Let me know what else you think could be in later chapters or what you think the next chapters could be called. The next letter is 'K'. Anyway, thank you again and see you next time.
Eris: Yes, he is extremely overprotective and wants what is best for his friends but also doesn't want to be hurt or see them hurt either. I love his character and wish we had another season to explore his history more! Thanks for your review.
Derekctomlinson: Haha Cyborg is definitely the overprotective brother type for sure but Raven for sure the strongest Titan and can be the scariest! Thank you for your review!
