Chapter 9

The next day the 4 left the Destiny Island, going up to the Gummi Ship that Donald was piloting and was big enough to hold their large group. Once everyone was on board they headed to the Keyblade Graveyard, where they soon found Master Xehanort waiting for them. He cracked a smirk at them before he began to speak. "Legend has it that darkness once covered the world. We know so little about the Keyblade War- only that it was just the beginning. If ruin brings about creation, what then would another Keyblade War bring? When the darkness falls, will we be found worthy of the precious light the legend speaks of?"

Then to his amide right the Heartless Ansum appeared. "Or will all of creation be instead returned to shadows? Today we will recreate the legend and see." he said.

Then on Xehanort's left appered Xemnus. "But first… your light shines far too brightly. It must be extinguished in order for the truth to be seen."

Then in front of the three of them appeared Vanitus and Young Xehanort. "Only when your hopes have been broken by battle upon battle can the key be claimed to Kingdom Hearts." Vanitus said.

"And break you is what we shall do. It has been etched." Young Xehanort said. It was then that darkness appeared under their feet and spread outward to surround them. All of them prepared as the darkness filled the sky over head and Heartless and Nobodies, began to fall from towards them like rain. "Look at how many there are!" Sora said, his voice filled with a hint of fear, which all of them felt but none of them let it bother or distract as they all summoned their respective weapons. "Ok gang, get ready!" Mickey ordered.

With that they fighting began with everyone splitting up into groups, and though she was stay close to Riku and Mickey, Alex tried to cover the others as best as she could with her bow. It was not easy to fight this big a group, even with all of them having weapons that were made to fight these enemies. The sheer number was far beyond anything Alex had ever dealt with or seen in all of the times since she had become a Power Ranger. Soon enough they dealt with the hug group and moved further on into the desolate land that surrounded the Keyblade Graveyard.

They had just come to a stop outside the canyon they had run though when Mickey turned and looked at them all. "Is everyone okay?" They all nodded or gave acknowledge of being ok, no one feeling the need to use words. "Come on let's go." Sora said full of vigour. It was then Ventus saw a very familiar person standing a few yard from them, just simply standing there, seeming out of it as he stared at the ground. "Terra!" Ven shouted as he took off running.

Hearing him they all turned as Aqua shouted the young man's name running after him well Alex frowned at the brunet in the distance. Alex had to admit, even this far away she could see the she did indeed have the same brown hair and blue eyes of the man they said was her biological father. But there was something… off about this situation.

"Terra! We found you!" Ven shouted excitedly as he grabbed Terra's left arm and smiled up at him.

Terra seemed to be in a daze as he looked at the blond before him before his turned to Aqua as she came to a stop next to them. "Terra… please say you're in there." Aqua must have seen something in Terra's eye because she suddenly pulled Ven behind her. There was a glare on her face as the others ran over and joined them. "What gives Aqua?" Ven demanded.

"I know that you're not him." Aqua snapped, confusing poor Ven. "Now let our friend go!"

Terra then smirked before as his hair turned white and finally confirming that he was indeed the thirteenth. "Today is the day you all loss."

"What?!" Aqua demanded.

"Before you even face the thirteen every last one of you will be torn heart from body but fear not-" Terranort said smugly as he summoned Xehanort's Keyblade. "The X-blade will still be forged."

"We're not going to lose to you." Sora informed him as most of them stood at the ready. Terranort humped and smiled before he suddenly vanishing then reappeared right in front of Ven, his Keyblade swinging to strike. Before the blow fell on Ven there was a flash of light and two swords stopped the strike, though Ven was still pushed back some as another body had bumped into him.

"So… the child of two keyblade welders and a protector of balance thinks she has the strength to stop me?" Terranort asked gleefully as he saw the strain on her face as he increased the pressure behind his blade.

"No." Alex said in a strained voice as she glared up at him, not seeing the looks of awe on everyone's faces. None of them understood how she had moved or reacted so fast, faster than any of them could have. "But maybe, I can get through to him." As she said this the Light Shard started to glow, the same glow surrounding her.

Terranort scoffed, knowing it was Terra she was speaking of, then smirked as he pushed down on her a bit more and she winched. "As much as I would love to put you in your place little keeper, as I did with your mother, another has placed clam on you."

"Alex look out!"

Kairi's warning came too late as Terranort backed off from Alex and another appeared in his place. She barely had time to bring her blades up to block before she was stuck with enough force that sent her flying into the air. It was only thanks to her years as a ranger that she was able to twist in the air and land on her feet. She looked at who had attacked her and glared at him as he came to stand next to Terranort. "Drakkon." She growled.

All of the guardians looked at the dark figure, his helmet was off allowing his long hair to blow in the wind as he grind at her, his new golden eyes glowing. His morphing armor had changed since Alex had last seen him in his dungeon. It was no longer white and green, with all the signs of different ranger powers on it, no the light was gone. The cloth was black with red strip accenting lines that went up his legs to his chest and down his arms. The golden shield was on his chest was much more refined the pointed at the shoulders pointes. This being the first time any of the others had seen him they could see that he indeed look like a man who would ripe worlds apart to obtain power. Xehanorts type of man.

"What are you doing here Darkkon? I thought my fellow rangers defeated you when the grid returned to normal." Alex asked as she stared to walk towards him, her phoenix eyes activated.

Drakkon smirked as he began to walk towards her. "Oh they did but Xehanort was short a member after I killed Marluxia, so he offered me his place among the organization."

"What?!" Lea shouted in surprise.

Alex scoffed. "Being led by another doesn't seem your style Drakkon, but then again I don't sense even half of the power you had when I sent you flying back in your fortress." Alex said with a raised eyebrow, sparing her friends a glance. She could see that most of them were confused by the turn of events but Riku, Sora, Goofy, and Donald were worried.

"Of that I would agree. However once I defeat you and take not only your power coin but the Light Shard as well, I will regain all the power I lost." Drakkon said before his helmet appeared on his head and he charged at her. Alex morphed as well and the two engaged in battle.

Well the two fought, Alex could only watch in glimpses as Terranort attacked Ven, sending him flying. He tried to attack Kairi but Lea stepped between them and ended up flying through a rock before a boulder stopped him. Alex tried to put some distance between her and Drakkon to go help them as she saw that Terranort's focus was Kairi again but Drakkon was relentless. Since she wasn't too focused on their own fight Drakkon was able to land a powerful hit on Alex, forcing her to demorph. Alex then took a kick to the chest and was sent flying as Donald used ZettaFlare to deal with Terranort.

Alex landed hard on her back, the air knocked out of her lungs, which left her weak as she laid there on the ground. She watched as Heartless appeared in the sky above her head and began to swarm before Drakkon entered her field of vison. "It would seem that stories of your prowess has been greatly exaggerated. Now to take what should be mine." He said as he bent to retch for the Light Shard, Alex heard Riku shouting her name but she ignored him as she was able to swing up her feet. She kicked Drakkon up high enough to be caught by the swarm as it flew pass.

"I'm alright Riku!" Alex shouted to her worried friend as she got to her feet and went to run to join him Sora, and Aqua. Suddenly pain ripped through her head, a familiar pain causing her to cry out and hold her head. "No, no, no, no, not now!" Alex shouted in desperation trying to hold it back as she looked down and saw her feet and legs turn transparent.

Riku was the first to see not only the pain Alex was in, that she was slowly vanishing, but soon the others still conscious did too. "Riku what's happening to her?" Sora asked worried.

"It's the Morphing Grid, its pulling her into it and there's nothing any of us can do to stop it." Riku told him and Aqua who looked horrified as a pained scream left Alex that caused even the startled Heartless and kept their distance as she became completely transparent and then vanished. "She's now safer than the rest of us." Though Riku said this, Aqua and Sora could see the worry written all over his face.

Alex's Pov

Once again after being ripped from reality (as that's what it felt like, don't you dare tell me otherwise) and into the gird my head was beyond sore as I woke up. Despite the pain I was in I knew I was laying on my back, my head in someone's lap, fingers gently ran through my hair. Opening my eyes I met the smiling face of my mother Jessica. "Hello sweetheart, how's your head?"

"Sore." I muttered as I rolled over onto my stomach and nuzzled into my mom's lap, wrapping my arms around her waist, enjoying the feel of her fingers running through my hair. I could tell when she undid my braids and used her wonderfully skilled fingers to remove any nots she found. After enjoying my mother's lap and the silence for a few moments I spoke. "Mom why didn't you tell me that dad wasn't my biological father?"

My mom sighed, and sparing her a glance I saw the sad pained look on her face. "I wanted to tell you so many times but it never seemed the right time and I wanted to keep you safe from Xehanort. I knew that he was looking for us after the battle we had in the Keybalde Graveyard and we lost Terra and Ven. I use to tell you and Jackson stories of them and of Aqua as you were growing up but I sealed those memories the night I passed the Light Shard and the power to you."

Hearing that I sat up and looked at her confused. "Aqua already told me that you had sealed away parts of my memories but what power did you pass to me?" I asked her confused. She didn't answer with words, instead she leaned forward and placed a kiss on my forehead. It must have been her way of undoing the seal on all of my memories of my childhood because I started to remember. All the stories that she had told me and my brother Jack, but one memory stuck out more than the rest.

It was of the night my mom died.

My mom jerked on the bed next to me as a cough left her, waking me in the process. "Mom are you ok?" I asked sounding half asleep as I sat up.

Mom nodded as she tried to regain her breath back, retching up and undoing the hidden clasp behind the Light Shard, she took it from around her neck and proceeded to secure it around mine. Once she found she could talk again my mom said. "Take this, a stone of pure light and of the darkest shadows' protect it from those who would use its power for evil and darkness."

I looked at her shocked because for as long as I could remember I had never seen my mother take this neckless off. "Mom, what are you doing?" I asked as tears filled my eyes, fear filling me.

Mom didn't answer as she summoned a keyblade and offered it to me, my eyes wide in awe. "In your hand take this key, so long as you have the makings then through this simple act of taking, its welder you shell one day be. And you find me dear daughter." My dear mother seemed to resist this as I tenderly took the keyblade's hilt in my hand well I looked the blade over in wonder. After a moment it vanished and my mom was fighting to breathe as she pulled me against her, holding me one more time. "My dear one, I am so sorry for the mess I am leaving you with, I think your father would be furious at me if he learned that I had let it happen if the first place."

I shook my head as I cried. "No he wouldn't."

I could feel her smile as she gave me one last squeeze. "Alex, I want you to remember something, its important. Outside this tiny world, is a much bigger one, and you have people out there that love you with all of their hearts. One day you will find each other, I can promise you that my dear child. When you do, never let them go." Then with one last breath my mom took her wayfinder, the one Aqua had given her so long ago and wrapped my hand around it. I then felt her slip away, gone forever. I cried well I hugged my mother's body, wishing she would come back.

I felt hot tears running down my face as my mom pulled back, letting her own tears fall, along with a bitter sweet smile. "Does this mean I have the power to wield a keyblade?" I asked her as I scrubbed the tears off my face.

My mom nodded. "Yes it does and I am relieved that both the power of the morphing grid and that of the Light Shard have not only kept it hidden but dormant. Now however you will need its strength to defeat the darkness that Xehanort has given Drakkon. Only with the power of the keyblade, the Light Shard and the Morphing Grid can stop him for good."

"Um… mom that's asking a bit much of me don't you think? I may be able to utilize the energy of the Light Shard and the energy of the grid in ways that no one else can but I don't know how to wield a Keyblade." I said now scared at the idea of fighting the dark version of Tommy all by myself as I knew how strong my older brother and fellow ranger was. I had never come close to ever beating him whenever we spared against each other. "Drakkon will destroy me."

"Oh really?" Mom asked me as she had me turn so my back was facing her and she started to rebraid my hair. "Is that what you were thinking when you stopped Terranort from attacking Ven or when you faced off against Drakkon when he showed up?"

I thought her words over as she quickly finished doing my hair. All of my hair was now pulled back in a single braid that started at the front of my head, curved around the left side and down the back. As I admired her work I saw that a she had also added a golden woven chain with small crystals it tying off the end of the braid. "Well no it wasn't, I just acted on instinct." I admitted.

"Exactly." Mom said with a grin well bopping me on my nose, which has always made me giggle as a child, even now I couldn't help it. "You are not only a child of two Keyblade wielders but a descendant of one of the few known survivors of the original Keyblade War. You also are a ranger and one of the 4 Ninjetti Guardians. You have instincts and strengths that you are not even aware of yet. All you can do is have faith in yourself and in the strength of your heart."

I smiled at her before I grabbed her in a hug, as I had missed the bright way she always looked at everything. "Thanks mom, for everything." I whispered as she wrapped her arms around me and hugged me back.

"Your welcome sweetheart." She whispered before she pulled back and she had a serious look on her face. "Now I need your help to free Terra from the darkness for good."

I nodded, determination filling me as I stood up. "I'll do what I can in your place mom."

"Now hold on Alex, that is not what I am asking of you as Terra is my dear friend and love. Well along with your dad Ben anyway." She said with bit of pink dusting her cheeks as she pulled a neckless out of her pocket. It was a simple silver chain with a small red stone pedant that was in the shape of a rhombus. "I need you to be my messenger and give this to Aqua."

Well I took the neckless she told me her plan, and I couldn't help but smile.

End of Pov

-o0o-

Back with the guardians of light, who thanks to Sora, were all back in their bodies after the swarm of heartless had ripped their hearts out. Sora was relieved to see all of his friends were alright but as he looked at all of their smiling faces he noticed one was still missing. "But what about Alex? You said the Morphing Grid took her Riku? How do we get her back?"

"Wish I-" before Riku could finish there was a shift in the air around them and a second later Alex just suddenly appeared among them, stumbling right into Riku. The two of them stumbled a bit as Riku grabbed her but was able to keep them both on their feet. "Well that answers that question. You alright Alex?"

"Yes and no." she muttered into his shoulder as she enjoyed being in his arms well her head and body screamed at her in pain. "I am fed up with being forcibly pulled into the grid as it hurts so much but you are a much better catch then Adam. When I was thrown out of the grid the last time, I ran into him we both fell over."

This earned a chuckle from Riku as he held her, noticing the change to her hair as he cast cure n her and she sighed in relief as the pain faded. "Good to know I'm better at something then him. So what happened in the grid, did the emissaries have a reason for pulling you in?"

Alex shook her head as she pulled out of his arms. "No it wasn't the Emissaries, it was my mom."

This surprised both Aqua and Ven. "Did you really see Jessica?" Ven asked hopeful.

"Yes I did and she sends her best and that she wants you two to do your best. She also asked that I give you this Aqua." Alex informed them as she held out the neckless to the water master.

"Oh, that's pretty but-" Aqua started to say but Alex cut her off.

"Trust me, you'll thank me later." Alex told her as she put the neckless around Aqua's neck before they started to run again, back to the same spot they had run into Drakkon and Terranort. On the way she gave a very quick explanation to thoses that didn't know what the Morphing Grid was, Drakkon and about her mom. Once again Terranort was waiting for them and he went to strike Ven again but this time it wasn't Alex that stopped his strike. No this time it was Terra's lingering will that possess his armor from so long ago. Well they watched Terra and Terranort battle, the Heartless began to swarm again and Drakkon showed himself.

He came flying at Alex, the sword that look much like the one he had made using both Ninja Steel and Saba raised to strike her down. His strike was stopped by an energy bubble that suddenly formed not only around Alex but all of the guardians of light. Riku and the others looked at the bubble in awe well Alex turned to glare at Drakkon with her Phoenix eyes. "You don't get a second chance to blind side me." She told him as her Phoenix spirit rose out of her and once again it sent him flying. He landed on his feet sending a glare at her before he left by way of a dark corridor.

With the Heartless swarming around them again Alex kept her spirit animal out using it as a defence above their heads. It was a great help as they fought the swarm again but then something changed as the swarm began to suck in all of the stray Heartless. Soon they were looking at a hug typhoon of darkness that went high into the sky. Alex and many if the others began to feel fear in their hearts, Sora was determined to keep fighting. He charged and then jumped at the mass of Heartless before him, just then there was a flash of light in front of him. At the same time the Light Shard glowed brightly well it began to float around Alex's neck.

They all watched in awe as thousands of keyblades flew high above their heads and helped Sora in his attack against the Heartless. "It is a sight to behold is it not daughter?" a voice whispered in her ear, making her turn and stare in awe. Standing not two feet from her left stood a man with red hair, with bits of grey in it and green eyes. He was dressed in her own Pheonix morphing armor but instead of hold two sword a keyblade with a crystal blade was clenched in his hand. She also saw a familiar blade, one she hadn't seen in years, in his other hand. Alex stood in awe of him, knowing exactly who he was, not witnessing Sora and power if the keyblade welders from the past defeated the Heartless. It was only after the battle that any of them saw the man that she was staring at. "We are always strongest when we fight together and when we let our hearts be our guiding keys. Always remember that." With that he was gone.

"Who the hell was that?" Lea asked confused.

"My ancestor Quill." Alex said as she recovered from her shock.

"Keyblade welders from long ago." Aqua added with a grateful smile, which Ales shared with her.

"It's the light of the past." Ven added which they all couldn't help but agree to. Unfortunately they had to put that behind them and move forward. But before they even could another member of the organization appeared before them and nether Alex or Riku were happy to see him. It was the Heartless version of Riku, and all his presence did was bring back bad memories for the couple. He taunted them before he brought forth another horde of heartless. As they were crowded by them Mickey considered using time magic to stop them but Riku stopped him as it would use up much of the kings strength. Aqua suggested that she would try and break though, giving the rest of them an opening to get through the horde. Even with Ven offering to help her they all knew that it wouldn't work, but Alex knew she had something that could work. She was just about to call it when a bright light appeared in the sky above, then landed in front of them, making them shield their eyes. A moment later both Master Yen Sid and Dulcea were reviled, the old master called up his magic making them a path well Dulcea had her owl spirt protecting them both. "Make haste. We will hold them here." Master Yen Sid ordered them.

"We can't just leave you both here." Mickey told him as Alex ran to Dulcea's side. The two Ninjetti locked eyes and the two looked to be having a privet conversation. Donald and Goofy volunteered to stay behind to back up the ancient masters Alex looked away as she nodded in defeat. Dulcea placed a hand on the young keeper's shoulder before bring her forehead against Alex's. "You know what needs to be done my phoenix. All you need is to have faith in your own power and bonds that you share." She whispered to her before pushing her forward as the 7 keyblade guardians ran pass. Alex looked at the 4 of them one last time before she ran to catch up with the others, staying close to Riku.

They soon retched what Alex could only call a meeting of cross roads as there were 4 paths that met in the middle. Dead keyblades on either side of them as they retched the center, and saw Xehanort and the all of his organization appeared walking towards them. "Today, we join these other welders and leave out mark on fate. I have waited patiently… together we shell unlock the Keyblade War's secrets. Now we forge it. The ultimate key… The X-Blade!"

Xehanort summoned his keyblade and stabbing it into the ground, discharging a massive energy wave that lite up not only the ground under their feet but the Light Shard as well. The ground rumbled under their feet before stone walls around them, creating a maze before them. The 13 members of the organization we out of sight, most likely dispersing themselves though out the maze. "Here we go." Sora said before they all took off running and splitting up into groups. Alex with Riku, Axel with Kairi, Aqua with Ven, well Sora joined Mickey.
