The Sorcerer's Fire Child - Part 8
Chapter 8
It had been about 1 year since Cedric offically adopted his niece, Calista as his daughter and now she calls him "Papa" and is now more or less like a little sister to her older adopted brother, Blaise.
To say it was a hard year was an understatment, but they got through it.
"Papa! Papa! I got my Hexley Hall letter." Calista exclaimed as she ran up to her uncle with brightest smile on her face.
"I can see that, now why don't you read it and see if that supplies list is in there."
Blaise was standing behind his sister, smiling as her joy was infectious, when she was reading her letter with same enthusiasm that he had when he got his letter, but that was 3 years ago and now he was a 3rd year student and a bit of a prodigy with his fire abilities and magic in general, but he loved every minute of it.
"Blaise, can you tell me about when you started at Hexley Hall?"
Calista was always asking him questions about his earlier Hexley Hall days and he answered as best he could without giving much away.
"Will, there's much to tell, little Red, I was the same age you are now when I got my letter and I got my supplies and started there pretty much with everyone else who got accepted."
"That's sounds boring!" Calista said pouting alittle at the vagues of her brother's answer.
Cedric coughs to his children's attention.
"You know I remember a certain little sorcerer, who was excited to start learing new spells and potions that he snuck into his Papa's work shop which he knew he was not allow in without supervision and tried to make his own potion as way of showing off."
Blaise blushes as he was reminded of that ill faithed adventure and how he got a very through lecture about the dangerous of potions and how mishandling ingredients can lead to deadly consequences if you don't know what you are doing.
Then afterwards he grounded for 2 months and was banned from the work shop until he could prove that he could listen to his professors and do the potions as instructed in the book.
"I was a little kid then and I am better about it now."
Cedric smiles alittle at his son's discomfort while Calista was giggling at him.
"Yes you are better about it, but don't think I didn't forget about the letter I received about a 1 month ago, about you using said potions on your teachers and students to make them start singing at random and then if they weren't singing they starting laughing at random and they had to cancel lessons for a week until they could find counters for them."
Blaise whines alittle at unfairness, even though he knows why he was in trouble, he still didn't like it
"I am grounded aren't I? I said I was sorry and that it was just for fun, how was I suppose know that the teachers can't take a joke or that the headmaster would suspended me for a month, when you were my age you played pranks in school."
Cedric narrows his eyes at his son's whining and complaining and decided to make a point.
"I only did it on Prank Day when I was in school and I always made sure that I didn't get caught, you did this to get out of a test that you didn't study for and that is why you are grounded, which you still have a week left to complete so I would get busy on any leftover schoolwork and homework you were given."
Blaise goes off to his room finish his work, leaving beamused Cedric and a now laughing Calista in the living room.
A few hours later Blaise came out of his room, finally done with his homework and schoolwork so he can finally relax for abit before going back to school in week.
"I trust you are done with your coursework and homework for the moment." Cedric asked from his desk as he heard the door open and shut.
"Yes, sir."
"Good, now I want you get started on the lines that I placed right there on the table."
"What!? But that's not fair!"
Cedric turns to face Blaise and gives the boy a stern look.
"Life's not fair and it wasn't fair for the teachers and your peers to suffer from falling behind on lessons, because of your pranks, so I would quit whining and get started and the sooner you do it, the quicker your punishment will be over."
"How many?" Blaise asked as he sits at table and the lines that he Papa set for him to write.
"I will not use pranks or magic to get out of schoolwork."
"I want about 50 lines per day and hopefully this will help the lesson sink in abit and I want it in your best handwriting."
Blaise grumbles, but grabs the pen and gets started on the first of many lines.
Once Cedric sees that his son was doing as he was told, he turns back to his work and got really into it, and so it was no surprise that he was startle out of his wits, when he heard his son calling his name.
"Papa? I am done."
Cedric nods and takes the lines, looks them over to make that he could read them and was satisfied with what he saw.
"Good, now you are free to go entertain yourself until dinner."
"Do you mind if I read in here with you?" Blaise asked as he held the book he had picked off his Papa's bookshelf.
"Yes, you may."
So for the next few hours both father and son sat in a comfortable silence until the clock chimed dinner time.
"Hey Papa, where's Calista?" Blaise asked as Cedric got up and strenched his arms and legs out groaning the joints cracked.
"She was invited to eat dinner with the twins and decided to sleepover with Princess Amber."
Blaise smiles at the fact that is his sister got the usually haunty and spoiled girl to be friends with her.
"Now then, let's eat."
