Bryant: For years, people everywhere always struggled to make the same decision. Regardless of which generation they choose from.
Thea: Death Battle already did one gen. So we're doing the next.
Bryant: Meganium, the Herb Pokemon.
Thea: Typhlosion, the Volcano Pokemon.
Bryant: And Feraligatr, the Big Jaw Pokemon.
Thea: Time to see which of these three can win a Pokemon Battle Royale.
Bryant: For this battle, we'll be analyzing the Pokemon without any trainer influence. No Z-Moves, no tutor moves, no HMs, no TMs, no EVs, no IVs, no Egg Moves, and no Items.
Thea: We will be allowing them to use all their moves though.
Bryant: I'm Bryant Reese.
Thea: And I'm Thea Price.
Bryant: And we're here to analyse these three fighters and find out who would win, a WI Battle!
-Line Break-
Meganium:
Bryant: Starting off the Johto Starters is Chikorita, which evolves into Bayleef, and finally Meganium, the Herb Pokemon. Meganiums are known to be peaceful, and gentle compared to the other two Starters.
Thea: A gardener's best friend! Now, if Pokemon existed in real life, I would have an Eevee. But Meganium is a close second for me.
Bryant: Really? I would've thought a Pokemon like Machamp, or Tauros would be your choice.
Thea: Definitely third and fourth choices. But Meganium is the perfect Pokemon for my garden.
Bryant: I thought you live in a cave.
Thea: I do! That's why I have a garden. What, you think I have a grocery store in my cave?
Bryant: Good point. The PokeDex does say that Meganium's breath has the power to revive dead grass and plants, making them healthy again. Meganium is also an excellent Pokemon to have if you simply want to relax, as it's petals can calm aggressive feelings with their aroma. It can even use this aroma to calm the aggression of its opponents in battle.
Thea: Combine that with the fact that Meganium is a tank, and you got a Pokemon that's going to be sticking around for a bit.
Stats:
-HP: 270 (Average)
-ATK: 169 (Average)
-DEF: 205 (Above Average)
-SP. ATK: 171 (Average)
-SP. DEF: 205 (Above Average)
-SPD: 165 (Average)
Bryant: With average HP and above average defensive stats, Meganium is easily the most defensive of the Johto Starters. As it levels up, Meganium learns a plethora of moves it can use during battle.
Thea: It can boost its Defense and Special Defense with Reflect and Light Screen, heal itself up with Synthesis, and Aromatherapy, and protect itself with Safeguard. It can also use moves like Poison Powder to poison its opponents. And if the opponent is a little too dodgy for them, Meganium can use Sweet Scent to slow their moves and decrease their evasion. But when Meganium decides to get violent, it has a bunch of different moves for that as well.
Bryant: Razor Leaf is one of Meganium's most iconic attacks. It summons a large flurry of razor sharp leaves which can be used to cut foes down to size. And, according to the Diamond and Pearl Manga, the amount of leaves can be decreased to increase speed and power. With Magical Leaf, they may lose their cutting edge, but thanks to being imbued with magic power, the leaves will never miss.
Thea: Petal Blizzard is Meganium's most powerful physical attack, which creates a bunch of petals, in a blizzard. Huh. That's, a little lame. But that's okay, cause Meganium can use other moves like Body Slam, which has a chance of paralyzing its opponents, and it's two most powerful attacks. Petal Dance, which has a chance of confusing Meganium if it uses it for too long, and Solarbeam! Which is like the Spirit Bomb of Pokemon because it needs two turns to charge up!
Bryant: The Solarbeam is specifically stated to be powered by sunlight, which is similar to real life solar lasers powered by magnesium combustion. This means that the Solarbeam can reach temperatures up to 3,726 Celsius.
Thea: Nature Power is a fun attack that can turn into different attacks based on certain terrains. Meganium is definitely a troubling opponent thanks to these moves.
Bryant: But it can be a troubling Pokemon as well. Meganium is considered to be the hardest of the three to raise, and for good reason. Though it's a tank, being purely Grass-type means that while Meganium is good against Ground, Water, and Rock Type Pokemon, it possesses one of the most amount of weaknesses, being weak to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug Type Pokemon.
Thea: And obviously, average attack stats means you're gonna be struggling to take out a lot of other Pokemon easily. It also doesn't help that while Meganium has a lot of moves, that doesn't mean it's not limited, especially since it has no way to take out the Pokemon it's weak to due to having no coverage moves, what-so ever. It's clearly meant to be a support Pokemon, and won't be that helpful when it's time to attack.
Bryant: That's not to say Meganium is a terrible Pokemon. If you play your cards right, they can prove to be an invaluable member of your team.
(Meganium) Megei!
-Line Break-
Typhlosion:
Thea: From the Fire Mouse Cyndaquil, to the badass Quilava, and into the mighty Typhlosion, the Volcano Pokemon! This Pokemon is the complete opposite to Meganium.
Bryant: Unlike the more passive Grass Starter, Typhlosion has been stated to create huge explosions by rubbing it's blazing fur together when angered. It can also create high temp heat waves to hide itself. Aggressive and powerful, Typhlosion has always been ready for an intense battle.
Thea: Typhlosion is friggin' cool. It was chosen to be the partner pokemon of Ethan in the Pokemon Anime, and Gold in the Gold and Silver Manga. And it's more hyper aggressive than Meganium too, arguably the most combat oriented of the three.
Stats:
-HP: 266 (Average)
-ATK: 173 (Average)
-DEF: 161 (Average)
-SP. ATK: 223 (Above Average)
-SP. DEF: 175 (Average)
-SPD: 205 (Above Average)
Bryant: Typhlosion possesses the highest Speed and Special Attack out of the three starters. As a Fire Type, it has a large variety of powerful fire based attacks to use. Eruption is Typhlosion's most powerful naturally learned move, but loses power the more health it loses.
Thea: But that's fine. It has more moves to back it up. Like Lava Plume, which attacks with lava!
Bryant: Which can reach up to temperatures equal to 1,250 degrees Celsius. It also has a choice between that and Flamethrower. Its Kanto counterpart, Charizard, can use this attack to melt boulders. As they have the same typing, move, and Special Attack, Typhlosion should be capable of a similar feat.
Thea: But when it gets bored of spitting hot fire, it can slam into you with it! With moves like Flame Charge, which boosts its speed with each use, or Flame Wheel, which turns it into a wheel of fire!
Bryant: It can also use moves like the Steel Type Gyro Ball, which is stronger the more the opponent outspeeds the user, and the Rock Type Rollout, which increases in power with each use. Rollout can be boosted in power with Defense Curl, which increases Typhlosion's Defense. With Quick Attack, Typhlosion can attach faster than other Pokemon can react. With Swift, it fires a flurry of stars that can't miss. And Double-Edge can be used against certain Pokemon that resist Fire Types attacks.
Thea: Now, Double-Edge, Flame Charge, Rollout, and Gyro Ball, Typhlosion uses them with an average Attack Stat, so it's better to use Special Attacks. But if Typhlosion wants to get up close and personal, it can use moves like Leer to lower Defense, and Smokescreen can lower the opponent's accuracy, making it harder to hit Typhlosion. And finally, it can burn opponents with Inferno, even though it has crappy accuracy. Now that can be annoying.
Bryant: The crappy accuracy or the moveset?
Thea: Yes.
Bryant: Fair enough. Out of the three starters, Typhlosion can be considered to be the easiest to raise, especially with it's large arsenal. It's especially effective against Steel, Grass, Ice, Bug, and Fairy Types.
Thea: But it's not without its fair share of weaknesses. Typhlosion is a pure Fire-Type, which means it's weak to Ground, Water, and Rock Type Pokemon. And it can only counter Rock Types with Gyro Ball, but it won't be doing that good since most Rock Types are slower than it. But that doesn't mean it's going down easily! Since Rock Types tend to have crappy Sp. Def, Typhlosion tends to just burn them up! Typhlosion is more than ready to burn everything in its way.
(Typhlosion) TAAAIIIII!
-Line Break-
Feraligatr:
Bryant: Finishing off the Johto Starters is Totodile, which evolves into Croconaw, and eventually, into Feraligatr, the Big Jaw Pokemon.
Thea: Just look at that thing! It must be a dentist's worst nightmare. But at least it's got a nice ass.
Bryant: It's a crocodile.
Thea: Good point.
Bryant: Being the most savage of the three Starters, Feraligatrs are known to move quickly and bite down with powerful jaws, shaking and tearing up its victims with its teeth.
Thea: Murder on the breath!
Stats:
-HP: 280 (Average)
-ATK: 215 (Above Average)
-DEF: 205 (Above Average)
-SP. ATK: 163 (Average)
-SP. DEF: 171 (Average)
-SPD: 161 (Average)
Bryant: Where-as Typhlosion was a speedy Special Attacker and Meganium was a Defensive tank, Feraligatr possesses the highest Attack and equal Defense to Meganium's. Feraligatrs are strong, persistent, and predatorial. As it levels up, Feraligatr gains several impressive attacks it can use in battle.
Thea: It's got a lot of attacks it can use. It has Ice Fang, Crunch, and Slash, all of which are great moves. Ice Fang can freeze an opponent solid, Crunch can lower Defense and make opponents flinch, and Slash has a high crit rate, which will give a time two boost.
Bryant: Feraligatr also has moves like Superpower, which can deal massive damage, but at the cost of lowering both Attack and Defense. And with Chip Away, it can attack while ignoring stat changes, with the exception of the screen moves. And should it get into a pinch, it can use Flail, a move that's boosted in power with less HP.
Thea: Scary Face is a move that can lower the opponent's Speed, Agility can raise its own Speed, and with Screech it can lower the opponent's Defense. And if the opponent decides to play keep away, it can just use Hydro Pump.
Bryant: It's unreasonable to say that Feraligatr's Hydro Pump can deal the same amount of damage as Blastoise's, as it has a lower Special Attack. Even so, Hydro Pump's power is not one to underestimate. Feraligatr is a powerful Pokemon, who's fairly balanced arsenal lets it fight to the best of it's abilities. Being a pure Water Type, Feraligatr is effective against Fire, Ground, and Rock Type Pokemon. However, it's weak against Grass and Electric Types, and while Ice Fang can be used against Grass Types, it has no option for Electric Types.
Thea: Still, this is still a Pokemon to be feared. If you see this thing running after you, hop onto a Flying Type, get out of there, and get some therapy, cause you'll probably have nightmares.
(Feraligatr) Fera, fera, gator.

Bryant: Alright, the stage is set, time to start this dance.
Thea: Battle ready, set, GO!
-Line Break-
"Ladies, and gentlemen! Welcome to the Final Round of the Pokemon Battle Royale Tournament! Brought to you by Crimson Bull." the announcer yelled over the microphone. Gold, Crystal, and Silver each walked up to their stands. The three took out their PokeBalls and got ready to throw them.
"For this battle, we made sure these Pokemon didn't have any unnaturally learned moves, and gave them each a drug that temporarily makes sure that they have no EVs, no IVs, and neutral Natures! And the trainers will not be commanding the Pokemon! It's just instinct and natural selection for this battle! With that being said, trainers! Release your Pokemon!" the announcer yelled. The three trainers hurled the PokeBalls through the air before turning around and leaving. The three starters popped out, and having already been told what was going to happen, immediately turned to each other, ready for the battle. Typhlosion roared as flames burst from it's neck. Feraligatr snarled as it fell to all fours. Meganium looked between them nervously, but readied itself as well. Only one was going to win.
Find out who's the very best!
Fight!
Feraligatr charged forward, leaping towards Meganium. The dinosaur quickly set up Reflect, blocking the crocodile's Slash attack. Meganium quickly waved its petals, sending a sweet smelling aroma in the form of Sweet Scent. Feraligatr backed off, confused by the smell. Meganium waved its petals again, this time sending a cloud of poisonous powder towards the water crocodile. Feraligatr roared and swiped at the powder violently, before leaping at Meganium with fangs glowing white. Flames burst out of nowhere, blasting Feraligatr and sending it flying. Meganium whipped it's head around to look at Typhlosion, before putting up a Light Screen to survive another Flamethrower.
Typhlosion growled, its body rumbling. Flames burned from the back of its head and it roared, sending a beam of intense heat and fire. Feraligatr reared up and roared as it fired back a powerful Hydro Pump. The two attacks collided, creating a massive steam explosion. Meganium jumped back and began gathering energy. The steam cleared, revealing Typhlosion charging up another Eruption. Meganium blasted the Solar Beam at the Fire Pokemon as Typhlosion returned with its own fire breath. The two attacks collided, creating a massive explosion that filled the ring.
Meganium yelped as it fell back. Seeing Feraligatr charging at it again, Meganium quickly leapt up, falling down towards Feraligatr with Body Slam. Feraligatr clenched its fist, veins popping up on its arm. Roaring, Feraligatr unleashed a powerful Superpower, hitting Meganium in the stomach and sending it flying upwards. Typhlosion charged in, covered in flames and slammed into Meganium before blasting it with more fire. Meganium yelped as it rolled away from the Fire Starter. Getting up, it shone as it casted Synthesis. Feraligatr growled before leaping towards Typhlosion, jaws wide open as it crunched down on Typhlosion. Typhlosion roared as it thrashed around, trying to throw Feraligatr before becoming engulfed in flames. It rolled up and spun horizontally, using a Flame Wheel to roast Feraligatr. The Water Pokemon roared as it was sent flying. Typhlosion charged forward and slammed into Feraligatr with the wheel before stopping to curl up, using Defense Curl.
Meganium finished using Synthesis and looked to the two other Pokemon. Meganium opened its mouth to charge up another Solarbeam. Typhlosion dashed forward in Rollout, slamming into Feraligatr before dashing around to charge towards Meganium. The rolling Fire Type leapt into the air as Meganium fired another Solarbeam, firing it at Typhlosion before swinging it's head at the scorched Feraligatr. The two other Starters crashed onto their backs before standing up. Feraligatr panted in exertion as it stood before the other two. Typhlosion was in slightly better shape. Meganium, having healed itself, swung its head again, this time with a gust of wind, summoning a large amount of petals.
Typhlosion glowed a white light, dashing around to slam into Feraligatr several times, throwing it into the petals. Feraligatr roared in pain as the petals damaged it. Snarling, Feraligatr turned and charged towards Meganium on all fours. Meganium panicked and swung more petals towards Feraligatr. The angered croc charged through the attack and leapt towards Meganium, crunching down on it with Ice Fang. Meganium screeched in pain as it was covered in ice. The ice shattered, leaving Meganium reeling back. Light seemed to shatter as Reflect and Light Screen both wore off. Feraligatr swung savagely, slashing Meganium over and over again before swinging a powerful arm, hitting it with another Superpower, sending it flying through the air. Meganium fell onto the ground, defeated.
Feraligatr turned back to Typhlosion, the two ready to battle. Typhlosion roared as lava shot from its mouth, shooting towards Feraligatr. The crocodile dodged and charged towards Typhlosion, swinging a Slash attack. Typhlosion roared as the claws raked across its body. Typhlosion swung back, shoving Feraligatr away before blasting it with fire again. Feraligatr roared as it powered through the flames, rearing back and crunching down towards Typhlosion's neck. Typhlosion spat a cloud of smoke in Feraligatr's eyes before throwing Feraligatr to the side. Typhlosion dashed forward and slammed into Feraligatr again with Quick Attack. Feraligatr swung back savagely with Chip Away, knocking Typhlosion to the side. Typhlosion dashed back and blasted Feraligatr with more fire. Feraligatr roared as it tried to swipe at Typhlosion once again. Typhlosion jumped back, before blasting it with more fire. Feraligatr roared one last time, before falling down, defeated. Typhlosion stood, panting, before throwing its head back and roaring. In the stands, Gold smirked at the grumbling Silver and pouting Crystal as his Pokemon was declared the victor.
"Nice job Exbo." he said.
KO!
Thea: Man, that was an awesome fight! But I thought for sure that Feraligatr would win. You know, since it's the water type, and Blastoise won the battle in Death Battle.
Bryant: Not exactly. Each Pokemon had an advantage that allowed them to stand above the others. Meganium did have the advantage of being able to heal and put up screens, and it's Poison Powder meant that Meganium was able to whittle down the opponent's HP. So, theoretically, Meganium could've been able to out last the other two.
Thea: But if you played competitive, you would know that alone wouldn't be able to hold out. Sure, the screens helped defend Meganium, but they're temporary, so it was only a matter of time before they ran out.
Bryant: And while Meganium was effective against Feraligatr, said Pokemon's Ice Fang and Normal Type attacks meant that it could hold its own. And since Feraligatr was the most predatorial of the three, that means that it went for the most vulnerable, Meganium.
Thea: So that means that Meganium was also pretty doomed. And it also doesn't help that Feraligator had a lot of moves to make it easier to take Meganium down. Like Scary Face, Screech, and Agility. Meganium didn't didn't have any way to help increase its stats permanently.
Bryant: Feraligatr was the most savage of the group, and arguably the most tenacious. However, due to Meganium defending itself and Typhlosion playing it smart, it ended up taking the most damage out of all the Pokemon from the combination of Grass Type attacks, powerful Special Attacks, and Poison Status.
Thea: It also doesn't help that Feraligatr didn't have a lot of good Water Type moves, which means it had limited Stab.
Bryant: The way that Pokemon works is that if the move is the same type as the Pokemon, it gets a fifty percent boost in power. However, quite stupidly, Feraligatr only gets one Physical Stab move in Aqua Tail. So while its other moves were good, Feraligatr wasn't able to do as much damage as it could if we had given it Egg Moves, TMs, HMs, or Tutor Moves.
Thea: Out of all these Pokemon, Typhlosion was the best equipped. Sure Meganium could've poisoned Typhlosion too, but Typhlosion could burn and damage with Inferno. And with Smokescreen, it could lower Meganium's accuracy, making it harder for Meganium to land the Poison Powder. And as the wise MandJTV once said, 'if it's not 100% Accurate, it's 50%.' And sure, the same could be said for Inferno, but the other Pokemon couldn't lower Typhlosion's accuracy the same way.
Bryant: Regarding Feraligatr, the Water Starter was easily Typhlosion's greatest adversary. But, Typhlosion had the moves necessary to stand up to Feraligatr.
Thea: Using Agility and Scary Face to get an edge? Flame Charge and Quick Attack let Typhlosion keep up, while dealing damage too. Using Screech? Defense Curl, which will power up Rollout. And while Rollout is a Rock Type Move, Water Types don't resist Rock. Stupidly.
Bryant: And while Hydro Pump only had 80% accuracy, Flamethrower and Lava Plume were both 100% accurate, and had a chance to burn, which halves the power of Physical attacks. And since Feraligatr didn't have any status curing moves, this meant that Feraligatr was easier to whittle down as the fight went on. And while Feraligatr didn't get much Physical Stab, Typhlosion had plenty of Special Stab. If we had given them access to Egg Moves, Feraligatr would've easily won with better moves, like Dragon Dance, Aqua Jet and Ancient Power. But this battle was focused on no trainer influence, so that didn't happen.
Thea: But wouldn't they just counter each other?
Bryant: Rock paper scissors, Grass beats Water, Water beats Fire, Fire beats Grass, this certainly was a factor. But just because these Types resisted one another, doesn't mean they were immune to it. They could still receive damage, and Typhlosion had several ways to lessen that damage easily and more reliably than the dual screens. Not to mention Typhlosion's fire was equal in power to Charizard's, putting it at a level that Feraligatr can't withstand forever.
Thea: Typhlosion just blew up the competition. Which means the winner of this WI Battle is Typhlosion!
Now that's a long-ass explanation. Sure enough, Typhlosion wins. I'm a little disappointed, I like Feraligatr the most out of the three, but Typhlosion is number 7 on my Top Ten Pokemon, so that's okay. If you liked this chapter, leave a review. If you want to see more, leave a review. If you want a specific match up, leave a review. And, uh, leave a review. Anyways, Azure out!
A tall, pretty woman walked down the street. She looked to the side, a fur scarf around her neck. Coming up to a specific house, she walked up to it and knocked on the door. A boy with spiked hair and a yellow sweater opened the door a few seconds later.
"Can I help you?"
"Is Shigeo Kageyama here?"
"No, why?"
"My name is Fubuki. I was hoping to recruit him into the Blizzard Group. I heard he's a powerful ESPer."
"I'm afraid my brother isn't the kind of person to join a group to fight." the boy said firmly.
"Then I suppose I shall have to make him."
"Oh really? My name is Ritsu Kageyama, and if you even try, I will defeat you." the boy said as they walked out to the street and faced each other. Fubuki looked at him with a fierce glare, Ritsu returning.
"Show me what you can do."
RITSU KAGEYAMA!
VS
FUBUKI!
