Shadow, Rouge, and Omega were flying through an active volcanic biome. Omega uses his scanners to locate the Red Chaos Emerald, while Shadow and Rouge keep on guard for any enemies. Omega would occasionally turn back to find flying enemies, only to find nothing stalking them while they fly.
"You know, it disgusts me why we have to defend Omega so he can locate the Emerald," Shadow said, being his brooding self.
"Shadow, you do realize Omega hasn't gotten any major upgrade. Well, other than he can SOMEHOW turn his hands and uses all his weapons simultaneously. Which is completely absurd even for the likes of Eggman." Rouge looks at Omega.
Omega turns his hands into the weapons Rouge described.
"Urgh, whatever that magic is, it's becoming totally unnerving." Shadow shook his head.
"What magic? You mean the magic King Arthur is using?" Omega asked.
"No, it's far more malicious than King Arthur's. Whoever it could be, it better not have been Merlina. Otherwise, I feel she might be using us." Shadow replied.
"Well, due to Merlina being so sweet and caring towards us these past two days, I doubt she would be the one emitting such a murderous aura," Rouge replied to him.
Omega stopped abruptly to see King Arthur's minions guarding an old temple. Omega scans the guarded temple and confirms the Red Chaos being inside the temple.
"The Red Chaos Emerald is inside that temple. But for some reason, the temple is guarded by King Arthur's minions." Omega spoke.
"Why the hell would they guard the Chaos Emerald? King Arthur doesn't have any intention of finding all the Chaos Emeralds. Or at least, that's what we know." Shadow scoffed.
"We should not find out. Alright, boys. You know what to do." Rouge flew towards the crowd of enemies.
Shadow and Omega nodded their heads as they jumped into the crowd. King Arthur's minions immediately saw Team Dark as they grabbed out their weapons. Shadow was the first to attack a humanoid knight with the Homing Attack. After defeating it with ease, Shadow grabs the Longsword the knight dropped and swings the Longsword against the other Humanoid Knights.
Rouge uses her Martial Arts proficiency to fight off some fish-like creatures that would fly and shoot energy blasts at her. Rouge avoids these blasts and uses her Martial Arts to strike a pressure point on each of the fish-like creatures' heads. They would all go limb from the strikes as they fall out of the sky and vanish from impacting the ground. Rouge smiled before noticing crossbow arrows launched at her.
Omega was dealing with knights with long claw weapons as they tried to sneak upon him. Omega's improved targeting system allowed the robot to precisely hit the Clawer knights with relative ease. A knight jumps at Omega and attempts to pierce through the robot's armor, but not a scratch was able to be left on him. Omega grabs the knight and throws him into a lava geyser, incinerating it.
"This isn't the safest spot! We should split up to get some heat off our backs!" Shadow yelled as he slices several knights at once.
"That's what I'm thinking! Omega?!" Rouge replied.
"Affirmative!" Omega agreed as well.
They separate themselves to avoid being overwhelmed by hordes of enemies. Shadow continues to use the Longsword against the knights around him. He uses his super-speed into a spinning tornado with the Longsword that shreds through numerous knights with spears and axes. Shadow then encounters a Giant Knight with two axes that swung at him. Shadow uses his speed to duel with the Giant. The Giant cuts through the Longsword Shadow used.
Shadow sees an opening and jumped into the air to charge an attack of Chaos Energy.
"CHAOS SPHERE!" Shadow declared the attack.
Shadow fires the Chaos Sphere at the Giant Knight. The giant knight attempted to guard against the attack, only for the Chaos Sphere to pierce right through its body and sliced it in half. Shadow smiled in victory before he joins up with Rouge and Omega.
Rouge was flying from energy blasts the fish-like enemies were using and dodging fire arrows from knights with crossbows. Rouge's tense expression changed into a stern look as she charged at the enemies with High-Speed Flight. She twirls in the air and strikes the fish enemies with her fists and moving so fast she becomes a blur. She dashes at the knights with the crossbows and kicks them in the head, snapping their necks as they vanish.
Rogue sees a Giant Knight grab her with its giant fist. The knight attempts to squeeze the life out of Rouge, with her reacting with shock and pain. Rouge uses her strength to pull out a Dummy Ring and slams it on the giant's wrists, severing its hand. The giant reeled in agony as its severed hand lets go of Rouge. Rouge recovered swiftly, flying upwards and throws a barrage of Dummy Rings, which explodes upon contact with the giant.
"I bet you haven't learned how to respect a woman." Rouge taunted the Giant.
Rouge throws one last Dummy Ring at the giant's head, which then explodes, causing the head of the giant to disintegrate. Rouge lands to the ground as the giant's body collapses and vanishes. Rouge flies off to join up with Shadow and Omega.
Omega was the one out of Team Dark to revel in the destruction of King Arthur's minions, aiming and shooting erratically with every weapon he has at all the enemies that were surrounding him. No matter where the knights or the fish enemies were, Omega always finds their location. When the smoke of every enemy he has eliminated has vanished, a Giant appears out of nowhere and attempted to grab Omega.
Omega flew into the sky and fires at the Giant, easily defeating it with every weapon.
When Team Dark circle each other, another massive horde of enemies charge at them. Shadow, Rouge, and Omega prepare themselves for the assault.
"Here they come, boys!" Rouge yelled.
"Got it!" Shadow replied.
"Affirmative!" Omega replied as well.
When the horde of enemies close in, Shadow launches rapid-fire Chaos Sphere, Rouge throwing Dummy Rings, and Omega firing every weapon he has once again. The wave of enemies gets pushed back by the combined efforts of Team Dark.
"Tired already?!" Shadow asked
"Since when did you start telling jokes?!" Rouge smiled with enjoyment.
"I don't ever get tired!" Omega replied.
After prolonged use of their efforts, Team Dark makes one final push. With Shadow firing a large beam of Chaos Energy, Rouge throwing two Dummy Rings at the same time, and Omega firing at max possible rate. All the explosions caused the volcano in the distance to erupt. When the smoke of the fallen enemies clears out, Shadow and Rouge were breathing heavily, except Omega.
"Well, that was quite a workout..." Rouge commented.
"Yeah, definitely need to get back in shape..." Shadow replied.
Omega flew inside the temple and grabbed the Red Chaos Emerald. When Shadow and Rouge recover from fatigue, Omega returns with the Chaos Emerald in hand.
"So, just like that? No traps or anything?" Shadow asked.
"Just like that. Nothing was standing in my way." Omega replied.
"Well, how about you give the Emerald? Besides, I know how to keep it safe more than you do." Rouge gives her hand to Omega.
Omega gives the Emerald to Rouge as she contacts the Commander to tell them about their location.
"Rouge, did you find the Chaos Emerald?" The Commander asked.
"Yes, Commander. We found it in a temple in an active volcanic biome." Rouge replied.
"That is one of the most dangerous places a Chaos Emerald would be. Return to base, and we'll tell you about the other two Emeralds no one's heading for yet." The Commander said.
"We'll be on our way," Rouge replied as she deactivated her switch.
Team Dark started flying out of the volcanic biome as lava flowed above them.
"You know, I'm surprised there weren't any real accidents during this mission. That rarely happens nowadays." Rouge spoke.
"Affirmative, we have no real injuries during this mission," Omega replied.
"Well, all I got to say is I got to remember my karma. Otherwise, I might be-!" Shadow tried to speak.
A flaming boulder smacks Shadow in the face, screaming in pain as the boulder sends him down into the biome. Shadow screams in pain with each bounce as he falls down a cliff. After ten seconds, he reaches the bottom of the pit and inexplicably explodes right after. Shadow moans in pain as lava pours all over him. Rouge stared at the deal in shock and horror, while Omega stared down emotionlessly.
Omega floats down to Shadow and picks him up from the lava with Rouge behind. Shadow only had some of his fur singed off, revealing some of his skin and blood from the injuries before the lava.
"You are pretty tough for someone who hasn't improved for a long time." Omega emotionlessly commented.
"Oh my god, Shadow! Are you going to be okay?!" Rouge asked frantically.
"Let's just get out of here..." Shadow wheezed as he coughed up smoke.
