Chapter eight: De Silver's first target.
Silver shadow to shadow king. The light of day is fading. General Hampton knights will fall. Yesterday. Read a message to Agent Dobersmitch. Who picks up the phone and calls the garage. "Have a car ready to go. I'll be down in five minutes". He says. Clicks the button, then dials another number. "Signal. Send the following. 'The shadow king' wishes the day of the week to live". He says when the phone is answered. He left his office, went to the elevator and pushed the button for the garage. And the doors close. Seconds later the elevator dinged, and the doors opened Dobersmitch was now on the parking level and got into a car. He drove off. Elsewhere, De Silver was checking out his weapon. A specially modified sniper rifle. His mission to terminate Brigadier General Karl Hampton, commander of the Home guard base near the capital. When a knock on the door sounded. "Sir we have a message for you". Said a bellboy. De Silver opened the door slightly and took the message and tipped the bellboy. After closing the door. He read the message. It was from Agent Dobersmitch. The message was in code but it said that they had received and understood his last message. So packing away his weapon and a special ammunition back into its case, left.
After leaving the hotel climbed into a hire car and drove off. In the meantime. Agent Dobersmitch was arriving at the Home Guard base, Fort Badger. "ID please". Said the MP at the gate. Agent Dobersmitch flashed his badge. "Is the General available"? He asked. The guard picked up a phone and called to the administration building. "Gate one here, I have an Agent Wolfgang Dobersmitch here to see the General. Yes, sir I'll ask". He then turns to the agent and says. "What is it concerning"? Agent Dobersmitch looked and then said. "It's about an Anti-terrorist operation son".
The guard relayed it up to admin. "Yes sir. Agent the General will see you. Just drive up to the administration block". The MP said after a few seconds, opened the barrier and saluted. After five minutes Agent Dobersmitch pulled up outside the office building that was the bases administration block. He headed inside and was directed to the general's office. Knocking the door, a southern accented male voice said. "Enter". And has Dobersmitch did the voice said. "Ha Lt It's good to see you again, a ZMH medal winner is always welcome here at Fort Badger. What can I do for you"? He asked.
"Well general sir, did you catch the reports about an armed group attacking that dance in Bunny Burrows"? Asked Dobersmitch.
"Terrible business that, terrible. A Police officer was killed, right. So, were the gunmen"? Asked the general. "Yes sir, the gunmen were all killed. The officer and his partner where working for us, ZBI, but they weren't the target. It was a child. A hybrid of fox and rabbit". Said Dobersmitch. "WHAT!? THAT'S, THAT'S, PREPOSTEROUS". Said the general flustered and gobsmacked by the agent's comments. "The baby was artificially created. And I believe that it is all part of some big plan. That's what brings me here today general. The group responsible is now targeting you". Dobersmitch stated. "What would they gain by my death"? Asked the general. "I believe the group is planning a coup, and if you were suddenly dead, one of theirs could take control of the base". Dobersmitch replied. "There's no way they could get to me on the base. And now we can stop them". Said the general.
"Don't be too sure general. They hired one of the best assassins' in the world. Carlos De Silver". Replied Dobersmitch. "De Silver". Said the general. "Don't worry general De Silver won't be able too, he died working in a prison in Bengalia, the one they hired was an agent of mine. He will kill you in about an hour. At the graduation parade". Said Dobersmitch as he explained the plan. After ten minutes the general nodded. And agreed to the plan. 30 minutes later, De Silver was preparing to take out the general. He was joined by one of De Goats men. Having hooked a rope over a tree. He said to the Trooper. "Tie that to the case handle". So the trooper did as he was told. After he finished, De Silver knocked him out with the hand grip of his pistol. De Silver climbs the tree and pulls up the case, after that he climbs down and ties the trooper to the rope and climbs back up. On the parade ground, a military band began to play as several officers including the general climbed on the platform. As an officer talked about their performances and which platoon did the best. De Silver was setting up his rifle. The platoon's fell in and began to march past the platform with the general on, who was saluting them as they went past. De Silver prepared to take the shot, aimed down the scope. Pulling the bolt back, squeezed the trigger. There was no sound only the faint whizz of the bullet flying through the air, until it hit the general, De Silver removed the suppressor and fires again.
The sound of the shot, rang through the air and the soldiers stopped, they noticed that the General was on the ground. His eyes were wide and fixed and blood was coming from his chest. Someone spotted the flash of a second shot that rang out. And a squad of troops headed to the location. By the time they had arrived, De Silver had already left. Only the trooper was left with a sniper rifle.
Hours past, and De Silver was arriving at De Goats HQ again. "Good work Mr De silver, very good work". Said De Goat. Turning he asks. "And my man". With an internal smile De Silver said. "Captured, he fire shots from a rifle trying to kill some of the troops, which gave us away". "Very well Mr De Silver". Said De Goat as he pushed a button on the intercom. Three guards come in and a fourth brought the young bunny and her little girl. "You are free to stay or to go, and your way out is there". Said De Goat pointing out the window. The young bunny looked out of the window and then backed off and started to cry. "You're Choice. Oh and thank Mr De Silver for your choices". He said with a sinister chuckle. De Silver shot up and looked out the window. There he saw two of De Goats men digging two holes. "You promised". Says De Silver.
De Goat looked and smiled. Two of the guards grabs De Silver and forcibly held him down. "If you arm them". Says De Silver. "You aren't in any position to make threats like that Mr De Silver. I think this will prove my point". Says De Goat before giving his men a look. The guard that brought the bunny in grabbed the child and threw her to the ground down by De Silver before holding her mother. The fourth man stood in front, put on some gloves and swung his fists. They began to beat her. "Stop please, stop". She screams. De Silver now enraged moved to stop them. After five minutes and, with her face bloodied and bruised, the bunny began to just moan slightly, she was starting to pass out, "STOP IT, STOP". Shouts De Silver, almost in tears, as he had broken free and moved over the desk pinning De Goat to the wall. Readying to thrust the letter opener into his eye. "Don't Mr De Silver, let the commander go or I will give this little one a permanent smile". Said one of De Goats men. De Silver could see the man pushing a knife into the little kits throat so hard that it drew blood, he slowly releases De Goat. And two of the guards grab him again. De Goat looks at his men and they release them both. "Monster". Screamed the little girl as she watched her mother's battered, bloodied lifeless body drop to the floor. "Yes. Little one I am". Replied De Goat.
