"There's one! Oh, and another!" The comforting summer air of the Hyrule fields washed over the two figures as they studied the wildlife together jollily, the smell of the wilderness pleasantly embracing the princess and her knight. Link watched in amuse as Zelda happily chirped to herself, the Sheikah Slate in her hands. It delighted him, more than ever, to see his princess this cheerful, a sight that was as rare as ever in those stressful days for her.
"The flowers we have in Hyrule aren't just beautiful…" Love and endless interest seeped in Zelda's voice as she spoke, "They're also quite useful as ingredients for a variety of things." She snapped another picture with the Slate while Link tilted his head to examine the piece of ancient technology. It's so advanced, so rare, too…No wonder the princess would be so obsessed with it.
Zelda studied the screen with large eyes filled with endearment, a small blush on her cheeks and a tiny smile on her lips. Then, a soft gasp like an adorable mouse finding out food - Zelda's eyes enlarged as she slowly lowered the Slate, leaning slightly forward to get a good look at whatever that she had discovered.
"This one here is called the silent princess. It's a rare, endangered species." Zelda crawled forward towards the flower as she continued to explain. Link followed her example as well, his eyes landing on the truly beautiful flower as he did so - white, blue, green and yellow…why do these colors on the flower seem so familiar to him?
"Despite our efforts, we can't get them to grow domestically yet." The princess turned back and peered at her knight as she spoke, showing the limitless excitement and adoring in her eyes. Link felt another small shudder go off inside of him as their eyes met again, just as every time before; those sapphire eyes, they never fail to impress him. "The princess can only thrive out here in the wild." Zelda gently touched the pedals on the flower, her tone soft and clear, her fingers elegant and long. The silent princess swayed gracefully in the wind, and Link couldn't help but marvel at its beauty. The princess can only thrive out here in the wild…A small, loving smile crept onto his lips as the realization dawned onto him.
"All that we can hope…Is that the species will be strong enough to prosper, on its own." Zelda brought her hands to her chest and stared down sadly at the ground, that expression instantly breaking Link's heart into pieces. He found himself reaching out to her, all of his emotions being crafted into nothing but concern. Please, someone make her happy…
Then suddenly, a cheerful gasp as Zelda partially sprinted forward, cupping her beautiful fingers around something. "Is that what I think it is? Look at this!" Endless excitement filled Zelda voice as she turned back towards Link, the happiness in her eyes lighting up a thousand skies. Link couldn't help but smile at Zelda's pure and simple cheerfulness, the warm feeling in his chest making it seem as if it was going to explode any second.
"This delicacy is known to have very, very potent effects under the proper circumstances." The princess was speaking as if marbles were popping out of her mouth, so much pleasure in her every word as she kneeled in front of the Hylian knight, her hands still cupped around the thing that she had caught. Leaning forward, she opened them quickly as if trying to surprise someone on a corner: "Ta-da!"
Inside her gloved hands rests a hot-footed frog, its large eyes staring blankly ahead as Zelda held it safe. "Research from the castle shows that ingesting one of these can actually augment certain abilities." Her beautifully-crafted green eyes were casting into Link's soul, wrapping his tiny little heart in love and adoration as he studied her movement closely. "We wouldn't be in a controlled environment out here, but with your level of physical fitness…" She looked down to smirk mischievously at the frog, before casting her eyes back at Link, the happiness in her voice igniting something bright inside of him, "you'd be a perfect candidate for the study!"
Realization hit Link like a fast steed as his eyes enlarged. Wait…what? She doesn't mean…she's not going to make me…
Zelda extended her arms out to him cheerfully, the frog jumping up and down inside her hands. A smirking smile was now on her face, but at the same time, her eyes seemed to be shining with sincerity….No, this cannot be…She means it?!
"Go on!" Link yelped as the frog appeared closer in front of his eyes, those disturbing pupils moving in all different directions and its disgusting skin making him feel something unimaginable in his stomach. No, this will not end like this…! But this is a princess's order after all, oh, whatever shall I do?
Zelda moved the frog even closer to his face, making him let out yet another…somewhat frightened shout. "Taste it!"
Link stared extremely uncomfortably down at the hot-footed frog, gulping nervously. Zelda was now giggling as she held the creature, and, well, despite everything, her laughter made Link feel as if he had just discovered a vault fill of rupees right in his own house. Suppressing a smile, he gently took the frog inside his hands, feeling chills down his bones as their hands made contact.
"Wait, Link!" Laughing, Zelda shook her head at her knight rapidly, "I don't mean it, of course!" She took the frog out of his hands and set the creature free, seeing it jump robotically back into the grass as she tried to settle down her giggles.
"Why would the I make you do something like that?" She grinned brightly at Link, the blush on her face deepening but her happiness disappearing no less, "I know you do have a certain level of physical fitness, but consuming a frog just like so could kill you."
The princess cleared her throat professionally and took a mischievous glance at her knight, making Link feel bumping deers in his heart. "You didn't actually take me seriously, now did you?"
Embarrassment suddenly rose up his throat and heat covered his face. Link felt himself stare consciously at the ground as the princess studied him with now even more laughs, her eyes sparkling with a thousand diamonds and even more cheeriness. Slowly raising his head, Link began to laugh as well, but whether it's at his own silliness, or at the princess's pure, rare cheerfulness, he didn't know.
