Things here allowed Deirdre to make sense of everything now. Swarms of bats glided in thick flocks of black. Their screeches echoing throughout the cave.
"I'm going to save Terry. Then I'm going to slap him. For the longest he's kept this, all this hidden." Deirdre said.
"To be fair, you never asked." Max said.
Deirdre stepped up to the displays of suits. Her mind was blank, as much as her speech was.
"You'll be entering out combat simulations. When I start liking the results, I'll put you in the field again. Blight isn't someone to be underestimated. I had the Joker, Terry had Blight." Bruce said.
"Deirdre Dennis, hated Batman, fell in love with Batman, then became Batman. A life well lived." Max said.
"I don't believe in any of this though. Batman is a symbol of oppression. Following the law is just following what a group of people thinks should be right. Then there's Batman, who just makes his own set of rules." Deirdre said.
"Are you going to let that stop you?" Bruce said.
"No. Sometimes your actions disagree with your ideologies. Otherwise you'd be stuck living a life that cornered you into a familiarity that becomes too familiar." Deirdre said.
Terry summoned every bit of strength in him to keep sane as the incisions tore his tissue apart. They had waited for his slumber so they could cast aside the blade beside him. It now sat a few feet away now.
"You're a strong guy, but I doubt you'll hold out." The woman said.
Terry waited as she knelt for her tools, his teeth made their way to her ear. Her reflexes weren't on standby as she yanked herself away.
"That was sneaky. But I shouldn't have expected anything less from a savage like you." The woman said.
Terry now realized he had misjudged his judgement earlier. It was in the right place. Otherwise she would've questioned why he was keeping quiet. When she left, the knife was thrown to his and his shackles loosened.
"My legs are dying to be stretched out." Terry said picking the lock to his chains.
He sits up and his arm extends out for the jagged knife beside him.
"I could go for a perc 30 right about now." Terry said.
"What do you mean not fast enough? You expect me to take out twenty people without being seen in eight minutes, I call bullshit." Deirdre said.
"This is the easiest trial. Don't worry you're doing better than Terry did on his first run." Bruce said.
"Guys Delia just messaged me. She said she's outside Wayne manor." Max said.
"Send her home." Bruce said.
"No she can help. We work our best in teams. You think my training course run was good, wait until you see us work together." Deirdre said.
"Fine. She'll be your support on this, you'll be the front liner." Bruce said. "But just know she's not stepping foot in the cave until you pass this trial." Bruce said.
