Let's-a-go!

[OST: Super Mario Bros. 2: Overworld (Smash Ultimate Remix)]

Subcon, like many other areas, was given a big modern change. It looked slightly more Mushroom Kingdom-like, with a colorful field, a more blue sky, and a more 3D like touch. However, it still kept it's original feel, like Modern World 1-1.

Modern Mario and Luigi both landed at the top of some clouds, where clouds covered the area, and showed a beautiful landscape.

"You know, Luigi." Modern Mario said. "Dreams can change in the future, and this dreamy place has changed."

"Fantastic." Modern Luigi replied as he and Modern Mario ran to take down those enemies.

They jumped to a small field before a giant blue Shy Guy caused them to crash.

"Well, well, well." The Shy Guy laughed. "I've finally found you after 1988, huh?"

"Well I finally found you after 1988 as well!" Modern Mario replied. They both glared at each before they charged. Fortunately, Modern Mario was able to ground pound the Shy Guy. Luigi stared at him in shock.

"Wow! For a creature that big, even a ground pound was able to destroy him!" Modern Luigi exclaimed.

"Let's-a-go, bro!" Modern Mario exclaimed as they went down, got springed from a yellow carrot hiding in the bushes, and they went in the door.

When they went out of the door, the action began as Shy Guys and Tweeters walked down in their path.

Modern Mario did a dive and knocked away the first part of the Shy Guys and Tweeters, while Modern Luigi jumped to the tall hill to get a power up, and he got a Fire Flower and saved it for later.

"Well, I may need this for later." Luigi said.

They both dived to attack the Shy Guys on the bridge, and kept running and jumping. Modern Luigi saw a POW block and kicked it to knock out the enemies, but Modern Mario didn't expect the explosive POW and fell down.

"Luigi," Modern Mario groaned. "Give me a warning next time."

"Gotcha," Modern Luigi replied as they continued running to where the underground door was, and he had an idea. "Hey, I just had a great idea!"

"What is it?" Modern Mario asked.

"Put your feet on my hands and hold on!" Modern Luigi answered as he put his hands up.

Modern Mario did so, and Modern Luigi charged a Power Jump. After charging it, he jumped to the top area, with Modern Mario following along.

"Thanks, bro!" Modern Mario smiled.

"No problem," Modern Luigi said, he saw the underground door. "You take the beanstalks, and I'll take the underground."

"Okie-dokie!" Modern Mario replied as he grabbed a veggie and tossed at a Hoopster so he could climb up.

Meanwhile, Modern Luigi was near 3 tufts of grass, and he grabbed them. They revealed bombs, scaring the modern plumber and causing him to throw them in panic to destroy a wall nearby. He found a door through the walls and opened it.

[OST stop]

He backflipped up the long wall, and he ran until he was near a battle arena. Suddenly, a giant robot that looked like Birdo crashed to the ground, ready to attack Modern Luigi.

"You've come a long way, Green Stache!" The robot asked, scaring him and making him angry after being called that name. "Well, your next days of living are over, and you will be destroyed by the one and only, Robirdo!"

"Oh no…" Modern Luigi shuddered. Robirdo charged at the modern plumber fast, and he made a run for it. The robot shot out two big eggs and he jumped away from them, grabbing an egg and throwing it at Robirdo.

"You missed!" Modern Luigi teased as he blew a raspberry at Robirdo, making the robot furious and it caused it to jump high in the sky, landing with a boom. He was stunned hard from the heavy ground pound, and Robirdo used her opportunity to grab him with her claw.

"Well, you've made a terrible fateful mistake, HAVEN'T YOU?!" Robirdo asked in fury, and he sweatdropped.

"N-no?" Modern Luigi whimpered as he struggled to break free.

Modern Mario was making good progress, as he was now in the sky. He came out of a vase, holding a Wing Cap he got inside the vase. He used it and flew nearby Ninjis, Shy Guys, and Hoopsters that were around the cloudy area, and were ready to attack him. The modern plumber took them out with his wing dives, defeating all those enemies. Eventually, the Wing Cap effect wore off.

"These athletic skills really pay off!" Modern Mario smirked as he climbed the rest of the final beanstalk.

After climbing the final beanstalk, he looked to see Robirdo attacking Luigi, and he became panicked.

"B-bro?!" Modern Luigi asked. "Can you please help me defeat that robo?! I got myself in a little situation!"

"Don't worry!" Modern Mario exclaimed. "I'm-a-coming, Luigi!"

Modern Mario charged before the giant robot spit out a huge egg towards him, but thankfully, he kicked the egg hard and it hit Robirdo. The kick's force was hard enough to damage Robirdo, and the robot was even more angry.

"OK! YOU"VE BOTH ASKED FOR IT!" Robirdo screamed as she charged so fast that she didn't realize that she went too far. Robirdo realised what happened, and saw that she was out of the ground and clouds. "Oh scrap…"

[OST stop]

Robirdo fell down to the ground and exploded into pieces. The explosion was enough to send a Power Star flying to the two Mario Bros.

"Hey! We got a star!" Modern Luigi smiled, and Modern Mario grabbed the Power Star.

"Yahoo!"

Unfortunately, the victory was short-lived as the ground suddenly broke into pieces, and both bros panicked as they were falling.

Modern Mario and Luigi both landed in another battle area, it had Phantos, it looked like a place for a king, and it had a machine. They looked at each other for a bit before they heard some screaming voices and a big thud. It was revealed to be the Classic Bros, and they were confused on what happened.

"Man, what a hard crash!" Classic Mario groaned. "Where are we?"

"Well, this doesn't look like the lobby." Modern Mario replied, looking around the place before they heard some loud pounding footsteps. Then, they were sent flying after a huge crash caused the place to shake a bit. Modern Mario looked up and became shocked to see who it was.

"Oh no," Modern Mario shuddered. "Not you."

"Yes me! Ribbit!" The voice was revealed to be a big green frog, with gold beads on its neck, a golden crown, large claws, and a blue cape. "I am the Great King Wart! King of Subcon!"

"Y-you're real?!" Modern Luigi stuttered.

"I am real! For Ribbit's sake!" Wart exclaimed. "Bowser and his Klassic friend sent me here to destroy you! Now that you are all here, I will have you four for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Ribbit!"

"Eww!" They all groaned, except for Wart, who was laughing.

"Unless you wanna be eaten, ribbit, you will all be forced to battle me!" Wart laughed evilly. "I hope you all enjoy being at my feast of losers! Ribbit!"

"Let's-a-go!" Modern and Classic Mario exclaimed in unison, and the battle began.

Wart started to spit out bubbles from his mouth to attack them, and the Classic and Modern bros dodged the bubbles.

Classic Luigi felt something hit him in the back of the head, and he saw it was a vegetable. He grabbed the vegetable and walked nervously to Wart.

"Stand back, guys." Classic Luigi said in determination as Classic Mario and the Modern Bros backed up. "I'm about to show that frog his 'favorite' food."

When Wart's mouth was opened up, Classic Luigi instantly threw the vegetable in his mouth before he could spit a single bubble, and Wart became disgusted.

"Ack! Ribbit!" Wart groaned. "My worst weakness! Veggies!"

Wart started to charge up more bubbles in his mouth, and spit them out in all directions. Unfortunately, Classic Luigi got caught in the bubble, became small, and was stuck!

"Oh no!" Classic Luigi faintly yelled. "Someone please let me outta this bubble!"

Thankfully, Modern Luigi saw him and did a backflip, popping the bubble. Classic Luigi was freed, but he unfortunately had become small. Modern Luigi grabbed a Fire Flower. He handed it to his Classic counterpart.

"Here, take this Fire Flower." Modern Luigi smiled. "It will come for good use!"

Classic Luigi ate the Fire Flower and became his fire form. He started to throw a few fireballs at Wart, but it didn't even faze him.

"At least you won't turn small." Modern Luigi said.

"Pathetic! Ribbit!" Wart yelled as he started to jump and crashed to the ground to cause a shockwave. Thankfully, they jumped through the wave.

"Wait, if Classic Luigi got that vegetable," Modern Mario whispered. "Where did he get it?"

He looked around to see the Dream Machine nearby, shooting out vegetables. He then turned to the three plumbers.

"Guys!" Modern Mario yelled quietly. "Follow me to the Dream Machine, I have a plan!"

They did what he asked them to do, and they looked at the Dream Machine throwing out veggies.

"We'll all grab a vegetable," Modern Mario explained. "When he opens his mouth, we will throw them at the same time and at the right moment."

They agreed with him as Wart continued to spit out bubbles. While he was preparing another bubble charge, they jumped at the right time he opened his mouth.

"Take this, KING FROG FACE!" Classic Mario screamed as they threw all it in slow motion. The vegetables were flying slowly as Wart looked in shock. The four plumbers were also sweating to see if it makes it to his mouth.

The vegetables got closer,

And closer,

And closer,

And closer until…

"GAH! NO! RIBBIT!" Wart exclaimed as he choked on the vegetables, and his face turned red. "I wanted victory and a feast of losers! Ribbit! Not a feast of winners and healthy food!"

"Well healthy good helps your body!" Modern Mario mentioned as he turned to the viewers. "It can help you become strong and healthy, and it is better than eating someone! That's Mario Mentions for you!"

"I'LL GET YOU FOR REVENGE ONE DAY! RIBBIT!" Wart screamed. "ONE DAY!"

[OST stop]

King Wart exploded and poofed away into nothingness, and a vase was revealed. Classic Mario walked to it and grabbed the cork on the top of it. He removed it and a huge species of Subcon escaped from it.

[OST: Mario Hoops 3 on 3: Congratulations]

"How can we thank you so much for saving us?" A Subcon cheered.

"Why don't we give him a Power Star?" Another Subcon asked.

"Great idea!" Another Subcon cheered. "Have it as part of our thank you for saving us!"

The Subcon threw a Power Star to Modern Mario, and he grabbed it. The Classic and Modern Bros threw a huge victory pose.

"WAHOO!"

That's a wrap! Now Subcon is officially done, and now we will head to the next place. I'll explain it in the next chapter.

The battle scenes were a bit hard to write, but I tried my best to make it enjoyable. So I'm sorry if the battles don't look appealing to you guys.
