STORY/ SCENARIO: A man extols the virtues of healthy competitiveness while challenging traditional male stereotypes.

VARIATIONS: From half a beat before bar 3 until the end of bar 3 (Our swords...Prove to), I have replaced the melody in D/P/Pt with a sequence of five quavers - an F followed by four Gs, the second and fourth of which are up an octave - then eight semiquaver Fs, the third, fourth, seventh and eighth of which are up an octave. There are a number of other rhythmical changes, which I will not describe in detail - although in many cases, this simply involves replacing a long series of quavers with semiquavers instead. Hopefully you should be able to follow along by singing the words as you would naturally say them.

Fight me!
C'mon, excite me!
Show me you're serious -
I'm asking you politely!
Our swords shine in fine
Fettle, now your metal
Prove to me! Let me see!

Would my upper lip were stiffer,
I'd have a superior claim!
Men, like tides and tempers, differ,
But still we all suffer the same!

How I long to kill the notion
That the strong repress all emotion:
If you actually do,
Soon you'll (I'm betting) be regretting how
Upsetting and untrue

Are the lies we repeat,
And the popular perception!
And the only way
To beat them when we meet them
Is to greet them and say,

'Oh, spare me! I don't give a damn!
My feelings make me who I am;
And every sigh, and every
Girlish giggle will re-echo till it sets your ears a-ringing!'
Singing

Flay me,
Or homage pay me;
Think me despicable
And wilfully betray me!
Don't stand there, blank stare,
Biding and deciding if you can:
You're a man!

How can we maintain the balance
With idiots running the show?
We rely on other talents
To trouble our tearaway foe.

Every time I feel remorseful
For the crime of being resourceful,
A voice starts to rejoice:
When you consider the alternative
You haven't any choice!

Every trick they deploy,
And each lying word they utter
In their efforts to
Annoy us and destroy us,
We'll enjoy them anew.

With laughter we will win this war -
For we know what we're fighting for -
And watch the contradictions
Of our enemy blow up, as they were wont to from the telling,
Yelling

Fight me!
C'mon excite me!
Show me you're serious -
I'm asking you politely!
