Chapter Seventeen: Final Decision
After Scourge was defeated, the guards took Scourge's body out of the Palace, and the maids were cleaning the mess around them.
"Oh, Sonic, you're alright!" Amy exclaimed, as she ran towards Sonic, and hugged him. Sonic hugs back.
"Yeah, I'm alright, Ames." Sonic told her.
"You know, Shadow, that was actually quite exciting seeing you in action like that. Now you have your place back, any place for me there?" Rouge teased. Shadow only smiled back.
"Wouldn't have it any other way." Shadow replied.
"Thank you for saving me back there. What is your name?" Tikal asked. Knuckles blushed.
"Um, Knuckles. My name is Knuckles. And you're very welcome." Knuckles replied.
"Amy never told me Sonic had such handsome friends. Are you seeing anyone?" Tikal asked.
"Not until now." Knuckles smiled. Tikal smiled back.
"And thank you for saving mine as well." Cream told Tails.
"You're very welcome, milady. My name is Miles Prower. But you may call me Tails." Tails replied.
"And my name is Cream." Cream smiled.
Back with Sonic and Amy, Sonic gave a sad frown.
"Sonic, what's wrong?" Amy asked, worriedly.
"Well, now that Scourge is gone, you need a new fiancée. But unfortunately, that person cannot be me. I am not a prince, nor do I belong in royalty." Sonic explained, sadly, as sad tears fell from his eyes.
"But, Sonic..." Amy started.
"No, it's alright. I just want you to be happy. And even though it pains me that we can't be together, as this is against the rules, I want to say these past few days of knowing you, was the greatest day of my life. Even if I have to spend for all eternity without you, it'll be all worth it, knowing I died one day, always loyal to you." Sonic stated.
Amy then also sheds sad tears. She then placed a hand on Sonic's face.
"No matter what this rule says, Sonic, in my eyes, you were always a prince to me." Amy sobbed.
"Well, we could always arrange for that to happen." Alfred said out of nowhere.
Sonic and Amy turn to face Alfred. They looked at him in surprise.
"Daddy, what do you mean?" Amy asked.
"With all due respect, Sire, but the rule does state that Amy must marry a prince." Sonic told him.
"That is indeed true. But if she marries you, that technically will make you a prince, and in order to become queen, she needs to become married to a prince, and have the ceremony to crown both of them." Alfred smiles.
"So, where are you getting at here, Sire?" Sonic asked.
"Where I am getting at here, young Sonic, is that as long as I am king for this moment in time, I rule this kingdom, and I can arrange my daughter to marry whoever I want. And now Scourge is no longer an option, and seeing her loyalty with you, how would you like to have my daughter's hand in marriage?" Alfred asked.
Sonic and Amy were shocked hearing this.
"You mean it?!" Amy asked in surprise.
"You want me to marry Amy, even though I am not in the royal family?!" Sonic asked.
"Of course. You said it yourself, Amy, you wanted to marry who you love. So now, I am giving you that chance. It's what your mother would have wanted." Alfred replied.
Amy sheds happy tears, and she kisses Alfred on the cheek.
"Thank you so much, Daddy." Amy thanked. Sonic smiles.
"Well, we better make this official, the right way." Sonic stated.
He then turned to face Amy, and got on one knee, and held both of Amy's hands.
"I am not quite sure how this works for royalty, but here it goes. Princess Amelia Rose, would you do me the honours of becoming my bride?" Sonic asked.
As this was being asked, everyone looked on, even Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, Tikal, Cream, Alfred and the audience. Amy's eyes shed in happy tears.
"I accept your proposal, Sonic the Hedgehog!" Amy exclaimed happily.
Everyone in the room cheers excitedly, and Sonic wraps his arms around Amy's waist, and playfully swings her around, and Amy placed her arms around Sonic's head for a warm loving embrace. He then puts Amy down, and holds both of her hands.

"Tonight, we will be having a wedding after all. We all come back later this evening, Amy will have her own wedding dress, and we will have Sonic and his men in a suit. We will prepare that right away!" Alfred announced.
After that, the audience cheered again, and Sonic and Amy embraced one another warmly, and lovingly.
