Anaxas, the planet was often called the "Sapphire of the Empire" as well as the "defender of the core" during the time of the republic, the planet had become synonymous with Naval service, a reputation that continued on with the foundation of the empire. The Anaxas academy was the primary source for the empire's next generation of Vac-Heads and officers, the program only lasted about 3 years, but the end results spoke for themselves.
Vader however was not really interested in overseeing this next class's graduation. Truly this was the job for a spineless politician, not a warrior or enforcer of the emperor's will. Yet here he was. "Let's get this over with." He thought to himself.
As Vader exited the shuttle he was greeted by the most unfortunate sight of the headmaster Yael Braggart. Vader looked at him with a look of death that was fortunately hidden by his mask, Yael was a pitiful blob of a man in his late forties to early fifties with a red and white hairline that had receded to the back of his scalp, his head sat on his globular body like a pair of misshapen balls of doe stuck on top of each other, his eyes were covered by his bloated cheeks making them look like little more than a couple of black slits. His flat pig like nose hung a dark brown handlebar mustache that frankly looked more like a sickly hairy worm.
The man had replaced the previous headmaster during the rise of the new order. He was the epitome of a brownnoser, only getting his job due to saying the right things, and knowing the right people. Just the sight of him, disguised Vader, the man held not a candle to some of the great veterans of the clone wars like Captain Rex or Wullf Yularen.
"Ah Welcome Lord Vader, we are honored to be graced by your presence."
"You may dispense with the pleasantries headmaster; I am here to see your graduates."
"Y-Yes sir, I assure you are most recent graduate class has been the most extraordinary we have had. I have full faith in their ability to take to the stars for our glorious order."
"I will judge that for myself."
Yes sir."
The great hall seemed to fall into a vacuous silence as Vader swung the door open with a thundering crack. The only noise came from the drill sergeants commanding the new graduates and the steady inhale and exhale of Vader's respirator.
"Ten-Hut, Ready Front!"
The class stood as stiff as Vader slowly walked from one end of the line to the other. In truth the sith lord couldn't help but laugh. He had sensed it, the fear. It irradiated from them like a radioactive core. Some were disciplined, standing perfectly swallowing their fear as there training commanded. With others, it was clear that the only reason why they didn't bolt for the door was the fear of getting shot.
"my lord…" Yael asked as her nervously rubbed his hands together. "What do you think?"
"I see cowards…cowards and dead children. Most of these students won't survive their first miss…"
Vader found himself coming to a stop as the back of his skull started to tingle. He felt a presence in the force that was unknown to him, but where did it come from? Vader's head snapped forward as he marched toward the end of the line not so much as saying a word.
"m-my lord?"
"silence!" Vader commanded in a whisper shout.
His instincts led him to a young woman, the woman had her eyes down, not daring to look at vader in the eyes.
"You, look at me." Vader commanded the woman meekly looked up. Her bottom lip started to tremble a bit but her training and discipline seemingly took over and she stood in a more confident position. Based on what Vader could tell she was a woman in her early 20s with pale skin blue eyes and brown hair that was tied in a well-kept military bun.
"What is your name young one?"
"Camie Marstrap sir!" the young woman shouted.
"and why Camie Marstrap are you here?"
"To serve the empire and promote order and the galaxy sir!"
Vader couldn't help but chuckle. She was saying the right thing like a good little graduate but something told him that her motives were different than she was letting on. How different he did not know. What struck him the most curious was the presence he felt from her.
"I expect great things from you young one. Stay determined.
Camie reeled back in surprise not expecting such a remark from the likes of the empire's prime enforcer.
"Y-Yes sir. She gave a half dazed salute, beating herself up mentally as she completed it. She was going to apologize but Vader walked away before she had the chance to do so. Vader stood in the middle of the hall and looked to his left then to the right.
"Each of you are here because you have met the expectations needed to serve the empire well. Know this however; your trials have only begun. Every time you step into a cockpit you must fight as if your life depends on it, because make no mistake it will. Every mistake, every slip up, every failure, can become your last. Do not accept failure. Take this to heart, and you just might be able to walk into the sunset. You are dismissed."
The graduates gave a salute and then proceeded to march into the mess hall. As they did so Glory to the Empire began blaring over the loudspeakers. Vader however was not interested in any kind of patriotism. His eyes were focused on Camie Marstrap .
"That Marstrap woman, who is she?"
"Ms Marstap, she's one of our best students, funny enough when she first came here she claimed she had never flown a craft in her life, but by the end of her first year she was ranked with the 15th highest score on all our simulations. By the time she graduated she was within the top 10. I would say that she has potential, but she is not as…zealous toward imperial ideals as we would like.
"She has more potential in her finger then you ever will in your worthless mass of a body. I want a blood sample form her immediately as well as a dossier on everything you know about her, and I wish to dine with her, privately."
"My lord as impressive as her improvement is I have other students who are of much better sto…." The man involuntarily twisted his neck as he felt his throat tighten, the man attempted to speak, but what came out was little more than a wheeze. He felt himself collapse on all floors as he pitifully looked to the dark lord.
"My demands are clear, and are expected to be followed. Do I make myself clear?"
"Y-Yes sir."
The headmaster scurried away upon finally getting up. Vader however remained focused on the new recruit. The force was strong with her, how strong he did not know….but he intended to find out.
