Chapter 10: Getting Internships
They did it, after a long and hard road the students of Class 1A, well most of them, got their provisional hero licenses. Exhausted after a stressful day of hard work the students returned to the heights alliance where they just hung out for a while, relaxing.
"Are you going to bed so soon Peter?" Tsuyu asked Peter, as he tried to go to his room.
"No... I just have a couple adjustments to make to my suit." Peter answered. It had taken a beating and was pretty damaged, it just needed some basic repairs and maybe a bit of reinforcement. It probably couldn't go invisible for more than five minutes at this point.
"Man, you're always working on that thing." Kaminary commented. He tried recalling a recent moment where Peter wasn't working on tech in one form or another, but he couldn't.
"You can adjust whatever needs adjusting later, hang out with us a little longer." Kitty suggested, while unconsciously playing with her hair.
Peter listened to the request, sticking around a little longer. Only once everyone else started calling it a night did he do the same. He headed to his room, where he started fiddling with his suits design.
"Clayton brought up a big concern, it's really no good being invisible if I can be heard. It's great for telling jokes, but for stealth that's not too good. I also should look into reenforcing the material. It almost broke today and I didn't get hit that much, it's no good if the suit breaks or malfunctions. Luckily these problems are easy to fix, all I need to do is..." Peter thought to himself before being interrupted by seeing both Bakugo and Midoriya leave the dorms.
"Where are those two going at this hour?" Peter wondered out loud, while checking the time. He had done basic repair and started working on the suits design, but after hanging out with his friends he totally lost track of time. "I guess I should be heading to sleepytown huh? I can't be sleepy tomorrow when the new school year actually starts." He commented.
He saved all his projects to his computer and jumped onto his bed, on his way to dreamland.
The next morning Peter woke up and left the room, he was on his way to the common area to have some breakfast when he spotted a weird paper hanging on Midoriya's sign. He approached to read it, it said "under house arrest."
"Wonder what those two were up to that it landed them in so much trouble." He wondered, going down to the common area to start his morning routine.
After getting everything ready Peter, along with the rest of the class went to their classroom. There Aizawa explained to them what happened between Midoriya and Bakugo, warning the other students in the class to not cause trouble, because next time he'll end up expelling the culprits.
Once the situation was explained and the students knew not to attempt such a stupid stunt, Aizawa told them that they were going to the second semester assembly. On the way they ran into Class 1B. Monoma tried to start beef with Class A, but Kendo stopped him from getting too far.
After the assembly ended all students of UA returned to their classrooms.
"Okay. Starting today, we'll resume our regular classes and training schedule. I know a lot has happened recently, however you need to switch gears and focus on your school duties. We're lecturing today, but this semester you'll have even harsher training than before." Aizawa informed once everyone had settled back into their seats. Some of his students started questioning the last part of his statement, prompting Aizawa to get serious.
"Uhm, excuse me sir, may I ask a question? What were those things the principal mentioned during the opening ceremony? I've never heard the term 'Hero Work Study' before." Tsuyu asked after raising her hand. She had little idea what it could mean, but was very curious as it was likely something very important for her career.
Other students started adding to Tsuyu's question, which prompted Aizawa to calmly answer all their questions and concerns. "I was planning to talk more about those at a later date, but I guess telling you now is more logical. To put it simply, its work outside of class, like the internships you did at Pro hero agencies before, only closer to the real thing."
"If this is an option for us, then why work so hard at the sports festival to get noticed and scouted?" Peter asked in a calm manner. This whole idea seemed highly illogical to him. He worked his butt off at the sports festival after all, had he done that for nothing?
"Y-Yeah!" Uraraka agreed. She had reached the same conclusion and was about to voice her opinion, but found that Peter had already concisely addressed the situation. After her, other students started adding to the point as well.
"That hard work pays off now. You will use your connections from events such as the sports festival to secure a work study. It's basic networking. It's not something to do with normal classwork, it's special for each student. Originally it was different but it ended up like this so many agencies don't end up fighting over just UA students." Aizawa calmly explained, addressing the students questions, one by one. "With your provisional hero licenses you can now assist in real ways and for longer periods of time. Up until now not many first years have received their licenses, with the recent increase of Villains, we're currently debating the idea that you too can participate in hero work studies. More information will come at a later date. For now we have other things to worry about."
The door then slid open, with Present Mic stepping in, it was time for english class and he was ready to teach.
"Oh, one last thing." Aizawa said as he left, turning to face Peter. "Peter Parker, the principal wants to see you after class. It's nothing bad, it's about your curriculum.
After the normal classes ended Peter started making his way to the principal's office, as requested.
"I wonder what this is all about." He wondered on the way. He could easily put the pieces together, so he had a good idea of what it was going to be about, but he could never be sure.
After walking for a few minutes Peter arrived at Principal Nezu's office. He informed the assistant and was promptly let into the office.
"Ah, welcome , please take a seat." Nezu said after watching Peter walk into the room. "You are probably wondering why exactly it is that I called you here."
"I assume it's because of the special curriculum I had for the first semester." Peter responded, he wasn't stupid, if it was about his curriculum it had to be about this. "You did say that it'd be implemented for at least a semester, but that I'd eventually have to choose."
Nezu nodded and calmly said "Yes. I'm sorry we can't continue this special path for longer, but due to recent events, such as All Mights retirement and the fact that you've earned your provisional hero license, it is time that you chose which course you will continue in moving forward. You have been an exemplary student, consistently getting good grades across the board, but we can no longer maintain this. You don't have to decide now, but we'd ask you to-"
"Hero course." Peter said without hesitation, cutting off the principal mid sentence. "I'm definitely picking the hero course."
"Wonderful, I was hoping you'd reach that concussion, but of course the choice was up to you in the end. I'll get the paperwork in order." Nezu said, not that bothered about being interrupted.
"One more thing sir." Peter said after getting up to leave. "I would like to ask to still be able to use the development studio, at least to keep up the designs and upgrades to my suits."
"I'm sure that's a request we can accommodate, but you'd have to ask Powerloader, as he is the one in charge of that department." Nezu said, responding to the request. It was reasonable after all, nothing too hard to do.
Peter then left the office, heading back to the dorms, making one pit stop on the way.
"I'm sorry Powerloader, am I interrupting?" Peter asked upon reaching the development studio.
"No, it's fine, what is it Peter?" the teacher asked in response.
"You see, I've just been informed that I can no longer attend the special curriculum I've been doing, and that's fine. But I wanted to ask for permission to still use the development studio, in order to upgrade my suit and designs." Peter answered.
"Sure, knock yourself out, as long as you have supervision that is." Powerloader said he knew the talents that Peter possessed in the world of inventions and saw no harm in letting him continue to hone his skills.
"Thank you very much." Peter said, bowing to his teacher, before leaving to return back to the dorms.
Over the next few days, while Midoriya was under house arrest, Peter finished the designs for the small upgrades to his suit and sent the developing request in. He had nothing else to work on, nor did he have extra classes, so he had more free time on his hands after school.
He used that time to hang out with his friends, those of the hero course and those from other courses, like Gwen and Harry, who he really got along with, he did a lot of his homework with them.
The days of house arrest ended for Midoriya and he returned to Class.
"Now that Midoriya is back, we'll go into more detail about what work studies entail." Aizawa announced, turning to face the door. "Go ahead and come in."
The door opened up, with Mirio, Nejire and Amajiki stepping into the Classroom.
"I'll have people who've experienced them firsthand explain. I suggest you listen carefully as they point out how workstudies differ from internships." Aizawa explained, proceeding to introduce the Big Three. This was the most logical way to do it and it also allowed him to take a bit of a break.
"Wait, so they're basically Pro's who're still in school right?" Peter thought to himself, trying to make sense of the explanation given.
"Get to it, introduce yourselves briefly, let's start with Amajiki." Aizawa ordered, wanting to get this over with.
The members of the Big Three tried to introduce themselves, but Amajiki being the nervous wreck that he is and Nejire being as curious as she is, they ended up throwing the whole conversation off track.
It was only thanks to Mirio that the explanation got back on track, as he suggested a demonstration to show the students what a workplace study could do for you. All of Class 1A was to fight Mirio in an all out fight.
Aizawa gave the go ahead, so the students changed into their gym uniforms and headed to gym Gamma.
"Wait, are we seriously doing this?" Kamala asked, a bit weary of having to fight an upperclassman. He had way more experience and probably more power than them, but he was only one person.
"Yeah, we are." Mirio answered, without a second thought. He then started stretching to get ready for the fight.
Amajiki tried to protest the situation, suggesting instead to just explain what can be learned from a workplace study, while Nejire cautioned Mirio to retrain himself and not hurt the students too much.
"Now who's gonna start this party?" Mirio asked after a bit of banter between him and the class.
"Spiders first." Peter answered, cutting off Kirishima.
"No, I'm first." Midoriya said, asserting himself. He had been suspended for a couple days and was itching for some action, not to mention he could learn from this.
Everyone got ready for the fight. Midoriya activated one for all to 5% and launched himself at Mirio, ready to deliver a full powered kick. Mirio activated his quirk, his clothes fell off, so he tried to grab his pants. He startled the class, but still left a great opportunity for Midoriya to attack. Midoriya hit Mirio in the face, but the moment of impact he just went through, landing behind his upperclassman.
"Went for the face huh?" Mirio asked, as a web, a sonic blast and an acid stram passed through his head. Those attacks were followed by an elongated fist to the head, which then retracted to Kamala's arm as she shot a long distance kick, that just went through him again.
"So his quirk is like Kitty's?" Peter though, trying to analyze the situation. He wasn't as good as Midoriya in that regard, but if he wanted to win the fight, then he needed to do it. "Well not exactly. She's still susceptible to sonics, he isn't. So while they're similar, they aren't the same. Still there must be a way to-"
Peter's train of thought was cut off by his spider-sense warning him. Mirio suddenly appeared behind Jiro. He wound up for a punch, before it could make contact however, Peter shot a web at Mirio, but it just went through him again, so Mirio hit Jiro in the gut unimpeded, with enough strength to take her out of the fight.
Seeing how quickly Peter reacted to his moves, Mirio deemed him as the biggest threat among 1A. He vanished into the ground, reemerging behind Peter. Peter managed to jump into the air in time, being warned by his spider-sense again, so he managed to avoid Mirio's strike.
"Missed me." Peter taunted, webbing up to the ceiling to stay in the air. The safest option, considering the current situation.
"You're not the only one who can go through things." Kitty shouted, appearing out of the ground while throwing a punch at Mirio. "He's gonna go intangible, like with the others, I'll do the same." She thought to herself, she had a theory that if they both were to go intangible, then they would touch each other like normal.
Kitty's punch hit Mirio in the face, making actual impact. Her theory was correct. But the punch didn't have enough strength behind it, so it didn't hurt Mirio too much.
"Interesting. You managed to touch me. Good Job." He congratulated, grabbing Kitty by the wrist and throwing her against her friends moments later. She went intangible before making impact, so she hit none of them, but it was enough to make most of them flinch. Mirio used the chance to easily take down a couple of the students.
After he took down Yaoyorozu, Laura rushed at Mirio, trying to slash him, she had lost fights before, but she had always managed to make an impact, there was no way she was going to lose to him. The attack just went through Mirio once again. He then counterattacked, hitting her in the gut, although she had an extreme pain tolerance, it still made her flinch. Mirio noticed how it did very little, so he struck again, this time putting more strength behind the punch, so he ended up taking Laura down rather easily.
He focused his attention on the long ranged fighter, moving towards them and disabling them rather easily, turning his attention to the short distance fighter after. Before five minutes could go by everyone was already on the ground.
Some students managed to surprise him a great deal. Those being Peter, who managed to evade some of his attacks, Midoriya, who managed to predict them and Kitty, who managed to land a hit.
After the fight ended Mirio explained his quirk to the class. He told them how weak it actually was and explained to them how he honed his skills thanks to experience, experience that he acquired in his work study. The speech he gave ended up inspiring many of the students.
After the demonstration ended the Big three left, with Mirio considering the possibility of introducing Midoriya to Sir Nighteye.
A couple days later, after the faculty meeting was held, Aizawa informed his students that they will be allowed to do hero work studies if they so choose, going over what exactly it'll mean for them. But because of the opposition of many faculty members to the idea the students would only be able to do their work studies under proven agencies that had a proven track record.
"A proven track record, huh? So we can only do them with agencies that have already taken people from our school." Peter mumbled, thinking about the situation. He wanted to go with the avengers, but was unsure if that was a possibility.
Later that day, after confirming he could, Peter called Tony Stark to ask for a work study with the Avengers. He dialed the number and hit the call button. The phone rung once, then twice, then three times.
"Hello, you've reached Tony Stark, what can I do for you ?" Tony asked upon picking up.
"Hi, Hello, . It's me Peter. I'm calling to ask, if I could maybe, possibly do my work studies with the avengers." Peter said. For some reason hearing the man's voice always made him feel nervous. He'd regain his composure over the course of the conversation, but that beginning was always problematic. It kind of made him seem a bit incompentent.
"Yeah, sorry Kid, not an option." Tony Responded to the Kid's question. "The Avengers are an international group of heroes, we're allowed to operate anywhere, thanks to my connections, but since we're based out of the US, I don't think it'd be realistic for you to do your hero work studies with us."
"Well thanks anyway." Peter said, sounding disappointed. This was his chance to seriously work under his heroes, but sadly it was not meant to be.
"Look, Kid, if you want my advice. Look through your list of offers, check where you can go and what you wanna do. If you can't decide, then I'm sure the answer will present itself eventually." Tony said. "Wait, no don't put that there, it'll cause an-"
Suddenly the other side of the call went silent, so Peter hung up.
Listening to his idol's advice Peter opened up his computer and opened up a document that held the names of all the agencies that sent him offers. He downloaded a second file from the school's database that held the list of agencies he was allowed to work under. He put both lists into a program to cross reference the matches. The list was narrowed down from 2359 to 121. Still those were a lot of places. None of them were of particular note, so he'd have to sift through to decide.
He looked at the clock of his computer, it was getting pretty late. Sure he didn't have class the next day, but still, he had a lot planned for his day off.
The next day quickly arrived. Peter quickly went through his morning routine, did some homework and spent some time working on some designs in his free time. He was starting design ideas for a couple classmates, he had run out of ideas for himself, so maybe this could inspire him.
After lunch, he took another look at his list while pacing through the common area. He was trying to decide, he had no idea what agency to go with, did he want to go to one that specialized in combat or support? A bigger agency or a smaller one? He had no idea.
"Peter. Hey! Peter!" Kamala shouted, snapping him out of throught. He was on the roof. How had he gotten on the roof? DId he just start walking on it without realizing it?
Defeated and paralized by indecision, he laid on the couch, maybe a while of passively thinking about it without moving would help him pick.
For the next twenty minutes he just laid there while looking at his list. He wasn't paying attention to who came and went, but at some point Midoriya came back from his expedition, informing his friends that he got an internship.
"Awsome, congrats dude." Peter said before returning to his little bubble, while the others discussed the situation further.
Moments later, while Peter read from his list Aizawa showed up to inform Tokoyami that he got an internship offer from Hawks, an offer which Tokoyami accepted.
"Also Kirishima apparently Amajiki from the Big Three wants to talk to you about something. Uraraka and Asui, you've got your own Big Three summons from Hado. Oh and Peter. It's not from the big three, but two second years want to talk to you too. Jonny Storm from 2B and Bobby Drake from 2A. You can all track them down some time tomorrow or whatever. That's all for now." Aizawa informed, snapping Peter out of his thoughts. As quickly as he showed up he left.
"Who are those two?" Peter asked, he never heard those names before, he had no idea who they were.
"They're second year students. They ended up in the top 4 in the last 2 sports festivals. They have a fierce rivalry going on that's very exciting to see on screen. They have really amazing quirks. One can combust at will and control his flames and the other can do the same with Ice." Midoriya answered.
"So they're like Todoroki split in half?" Peter asked. Sure that wasn't what Midoriya said, but it was close enough. One had fire the other Ice, if that wasn't a Todoroki split in half, then what was?
"Not really." Todoroki said, overhearing the conversation and chiming in. "The way their quirks work is very different to my own. I watched them last year. They seem to thrive when their quirks are activated and their limitations are mostly stamina based. I have a temperature limitation as well on both ends of the spectrum."
"True, they don't have the ability to regulate like you do. I guess that means their bodies are able to withstand the extreme temperatures they generate. But why would they want to talk to me?" Peter asked. Again he had had no contact with them, how could they know who he even was?
"Yeah, I wonder what Amajiki wants." Kirishima added.
"Considering the timing of it could be about the work study program." Tsuyu said, thinking the situation through logically.
"No way. That'd be too good to be true. Right?" Ochako exclaimed at the realisation.
Tsuyu, Uraraka and Kirishima then left to go meet with Amajiki and Nejire.
"How would the second years even know about us being able to do work studies?" Peter asked, still thinking the situation over. His curiosity was starting to get the better of him, but he knew he had to focus and pick a work study.
"Who knows you should probably just go ask them about it." Kamala Commented.
"Yeah, you're probably right." Peter responded, getting up and heading to the second year dorms. He didn't know which one of the dorms to visit, so he ended up deciding to go to the 2A dorms.
He rang the doorbell and two seconds later it opened with a boy with silver hair and blue eyes greeting him.
"Who are you? What do you want?" He asked in a rather impatient tone.
"Uhm, my name's Peter Parker, I'm a first year, I'm here to see Bobby Drake." Peter answered.
The boy at the door vanished for a moment, zooming through the dorms, looking for his classmate. "Not here." He told Peter, once he checked the building.
"Do you know where I might find him?" Peter asked. He wanted to get this over with as soon as he could, so he could get back to the work study selection.
The silver haired boy looked back into the building and shouted "Hey, Billy, you know where Bobby is?"
"I think he's in the gym beta practicing with Johnny from Class B." Billy answered, looking up from a weird looking book for a moment.
"Good enough?" The silver haired boy asked.
"Yeah, thanks." Peter answered, while turning away. Heading to the gym.
After a few minutes of walking across campus, he arrived at the gym. Seeing it from the outside reminded him of his training for the provisional licensing exam. He got close, spotting two students who, having finished their training, left for the gym.
"I'll get you next time Johnny, you'll see." Bobby said to his rival a huge grin on his face. Cold sweat was still coming off of him, even though he had already changed.
"Yeah right. Ain't no way you're beating me." Johnny responded, while cleaning off his own sweat with a towel.
"Dude, I've won against you plenty of times. Our score is only like 19-21." Bobby retorted, he was sick of Johnny gloating like he won every fight they had.
As they walked back to their dorms Bobby and Johnny spotted Peter and stopped to greet him, since he was in their way.
"Who are you? What are you doing here? The gym is gonna close soon, otherwise we'd still be using it." Bobby said as he spotted Peter, seeing the boy block his path.
"Uhm, you called me." Peter said, they called him, why didn't they know who he was. This situation seemed strange. "I'm Peter Parker, you put in a request to talk to me."
"Oh yeah, we did do that." Johnny said, thinking back to before training started. "That was like 2 hours ago. We thought you'd come to us during class, tomorrow, not today."
"We didn't even know to call you. It's just our mentor wanted to talk to you, set up a work study for you, all that stuff. You in Spider-Boy?" Bobby asked, trying to convince Peter with minimal work. He was pretty tired, all he wanted to do was get back to the dorms, take a long bath and go to sleep.
"Who is your 'Mentor'?" Peter asked, confused. They gave him little information to work with, how could he know to make up his mind with so little information?
"Oh, we do our work studies with the White Tiger agency." Johnny answered, clearing everything up for Peter.
"Isn't that like the number Six in the Japanese rankings?" Peter asked. He wasn't that well versed in the leaderboard or anything, but he did hear Midoriya talking about it a couple weeks ago. An agency that high up in the charts would probably bring with it a lot of experience and learning.
"Sure is!" Johnny said with a weird smile on his face, it almost seemed like he was trying to gloat about it. "He tends to take a bunch of students from UA for work studies and you apparently got his interest. Wanna swing by, when we go there tomorrow?"
"Sure." Peter answered. He was going crazy trying to decide, but an offer from such a high ranking agency would be very beneficial for him.
"Great." Bobby said, grabbing a piece of paper with his number and handing it to Peter. "Send me a message when you finish class tomorrow. We'll let you know where to meet."
The next day, after all his classes ended Peter met up with Johnny and Bobby, who took him to the White Tiger agency for an interview. Once they arrived at the reception they dropped him off and went to go change for their patrol.
"Hey, you must be Peter." The White Tiger, the Pro Hero in charge of the agency, said appearing after a couple minutes of Peter waiting. He was extending his hand to Peter as he greeted him.
"Yes. I am It's nice to meet you." Peter said, shaking the hero's hand. The man seemed friendly enough. For some reason Peter imagined a more intimidating guy.
"Likewise, I'm Hector. But you might know me better as the White Tiger. I manage this agency." The Pro said, upon looking the new student over. "Let's go into my office shall we?"
"Sure." Peter answered, following the Hero through the building.
Once they arrived at the office Peter took a moment to look around. It was neatly decorated and was remarkably organized and Zen. There were a couple motivational posters on the walls, but most of it seemed like a fancy business office, there was even a bonsai tree on the Hero's desk.
"So, we're an agency with 50 sidekicks, a couple different Heroes and 10 different workplace study students, most of them from UA . I usually meet up with the new recruits for the initiation and recruiting process, but after that you'd be placed in one of our groups. The experience you'd get is real, you'd be on the field with other sidekicks and heroes, doing real hero work, so it's not really like the normal internships you're probably used to. We'd be asking you to come work with us every few days, you might miss out on a couple school duties, but the experience you gain can prove invaluable. As for the facilities, we're fully equipped and funded. We have gyms, training areas and anything you might need. How does this sound?" Hector asked after explaining the basics of the agency. It weirded Peter out a bit too much. There had to be some sort of downside, a test or something.
"It sounds great, awesome even. I haven't really been to that many hero agencies, but it looks very state of the art. But I thought you'd be asking me more questions about, you know how qualified I am for the position or make me go through some sort of trial or test." Peter said. Maybe if he mentioned it he could get ahead of it.
"There isn't much of a need for that. I've seen the sports festival. I know what you're capable of. There's also a reason why I tend to be the one in charge of new recruits. It's kinda related to my quirk. Regardless if you want the position it's all yours." Hector explained, offering Peter a calming smile. Something had to be off.
"Wait, if you had your eye on me since the sports festival, why not send me an offer then?" Peter asked. The situation seemed strange.
"We'll... to be fair, I only watched it recently. I've been pretty busy with some investigations. I saw it about 2 weeks ago, did some research, found out you got your license and that UA allowed first years to go on hero work studies, so I thought I'd ask some of my interns to go fetch you. I also asked some to talk to someone else, but I guess they haven't gotten here yet." Hector explained. It seemed logical. The guy was busy, so he couldn't have watched the sports festival. His spider-sense was totally calm and he seemed like a nice guy. "But you haven't answered my question. Do you want the position?"
"Yes. I would. I think it'd be a pretty good chance to get some experience." Peter said.
After hearing his answer Hector extended his hand, as if asking for something. It took a moment for Peter to put the pieces together, but once he did he handed Hector the form, which he promptly stamped.
Having his permission slip approved Peter returned to the dorms, having also been informed by White Tiger that all the information he'll need will be sent to him soon, once all the paperwork is complete.
It took a couple days, but the paperwork got approved and Peter was allowed to do his work study with the White Tiger agency. Three days after meeting the Hero, Peter returned to the agency, this time as a Workplace study student. Once there he saw a very unexpected face.
"Wait. You're from Class 1B. Uhm, Kendo right?" Peter asked after approaching his fellow student. He had never really talked to her, he'd only heard of her and seen how she kept Monoma in check, but that was the limited interaction he'd had with her.
"Yeah, although my hero name is Battle Fist. You're Parker right? Liz's friend? From Class A." She asked in response. She knew someone who knew him, so she heard a couple stories, but again never really had the pleasure of meeting him.
"Please, call me Peter, although I guess Spider-Man would be a better fit, since we're in uniform." Peter said "I didn't really expect to see another first year student here though."
"Yeah, same." Kendo responded. "I thought I'd be the only one, but regardless it's nice to officially meet you."
"Likewise." Peter answered. He wanted to maybe socialize a bit longer, but before he could say anything else White Tiger walked into the room.
"All right everyone, we have two new recruits today. So be welcoming to them and show them the ropes." The White Tiger said, directing himself at the room full of a couple heroes and students. There had to be over 15 people there. "Battle Fist will be going along with Stature and Spider-Man, you're going to go with Silk. They'll show you guys the ropes, go on patrol and things like that. The rest just do what you'd do normally. Once these two are better situated we'll reorganize the groups a bit. I'll be continuing with the Fisk Investigation for now. That's it. Back to work everyone."
"Uhm, excuse me sir." Peter said while approaching the Nr.6 Hero before he could leave. "Wouldn't it be smarter to place the two new workplace students, that are from the same school together."
"While that was a definite possibility, I thought placing you both with someone with a similar fighting style, that you can personally ask questions to and learn from would be the best option for now. I have to get going, good luck on your first day." White Tiger said as he left, heading back to his office, he seemed in a bit of a rush, so maybe he had something important to do, he did say he was continuing with an investigation.
"So I guess we're paired up together Spider-Man right? I'm Cindy Moon, my hero name's Silk." Cindy said after approaching Peter.
"Peter Parker aka Spider-Man." Peter confirmed, while smiling under his mask. This was the first time he'd gotten a direct one to one mentorship. It could prove beneficial.
"Okay Parker, let's get going. Today, I'll show you the ropes while on Patrol. What's your Quirk?" Cindy asked. If she was going to be fighting with him for the time being, then knowing each other's abilities seemed like a decent idea.
"My quirk is called Spider. I can do anything a spider can... Have enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, which extends to a warning system and I can stick to walls." Peter answered.
"No webs?" Cindy asked, confused, as they left the building.
"I do, but my natural web shooters hurt, so I tend to use a support item I built as a substitute." Peter answered.
"Oh so, you're relying mostly on support items? Wait, you made them yourself?" Cindy asked, surprised. She had met a lot of heroes who primarily used support items, but that someone would build them themselves was a rare sight.
"Well I'd say I keep a balance between quirk and support. The items help me a lot, but they're just tools, I try not to let them control me. I still need to be able to fight without them in case they ever fail. And yes I did design and work on as many gadgets I use myself." Peter answered, while being pretty proud of himself "What about you, what's your quirk."
"It's how I chose my hero name. It's called silk. I can create silk strands from my fingers, shoot them out at different speeds. I usually use them to move around, swinging from building to building or at a lower rate to stick to walls. I can also produce the silk from other parts of my body, like my feet. Aside from that I'm also quite agile and strong." Cindy explained. Peter looked interested in the power as it did kinda remind him of his. It was different but still similar.
"You know if you'd rather do patrol swinging around I'd be up for that." Peter said, smiling to himself, since no one else could see from behind the mask.
"Sure you can keep up?" Cindy asked "I'm pretty fast."
"I'll manage." Peter answered.
Cindy jumped into the air and shot a strand with her quirk. She easily started moving around with Peter following close behind.
The pair swung around the vicinity for a couple of minutes. They ran across a burglary taking place, but quickly stopped it, capturing the small time crooks. After they were defeated they waited for the police to arrive and handed them in.
They continued their patrol from the skies, swinging around freely. It was a sensation that Peter loved and up till this moment didn't get to enjoy that much. During this time they stopped a couple small crimes: An ATM robbery, a convenience store theft and even someone trying to steal a bike.
"Well that was an eventful day." Silk commented, while putting her hand to her stomach. "Really builds up an appetite. We still have a couple hours of patrol left, you want to get something to eat? There's this great hotdog stand a couple blocks that way."
"This was eventful? Don't you usually do more stuff? Like fighting more bad guys? As for the food I'm up for it. I tend to eat a lot. Enhanced metabolism and all." Peter asked as they started to move to the nearby hotdog stand, a rare sight in the country they were in, but a welcomed one for Peter.
"Not really. This area has always been peaceful. Only in the last few months or so have crimes started escalating. Although not that much big stuff tends to happen here." Silk answered.
They bought their hotdogs at the stand and swung to a nearby building to eat them while overlooking the city. If anything happened they would be right on top of the crime and could swoop in.
While eating the two talked a bit, getting to know each other. Peter would occasionally ask a couple questions about hero work and the agency, which Cindy answered as best she could.
"Alright, you're done eating right? Time to get back to it." Cindy said, getting back up and stretching. Hearing that Peter grabbed his mask and put it back on. He got up, ready to go back to patrol.
Before they could head out the two heroes hear a strange noise behind them, which causes them to turn around.
They turned to see a weblike pattern manifesting out of seemingly nowhere.
"Is this one of your gadgets malfunctioning?" Cindy asked.
"What do you think, I'm some sort of Wizard? I'm not Gandalf!" Peter exclaimed. All he knew was based in science, this seemed more like Magic.
The pattern developed and eventually was bigger than both of them. A few seconds later a full portal had developed and MIles Morales, along Ultimate Spider-Man (from the TV show), the Spider Buggy and even a cowboy Spider-Man among others came out of the portal.
"What heck is this?!" Peter exclaimed, both surprised to see other Spiders and confused as to the situation.
Cindy on the other hand was in full shock, she was staring at the portal without knowing what to say, after a couple moments of startling, something came out of her mouth. "What the fu-"
