Just so you guys know...Misty and Ash, Gary and Leaf, and Dawn and Paul are the other couples of the gang for the entire series. I won't show their love stories because I'm a ContestShipper.

Chapter 9: Not Interested

It's the week before Homecoming. We find May alone in the choir room before school and she's sitting at the piano. She places her fingers on the keys.

"Okay." May whispered to herself. "Let's practice." May starts playing a gentle melody.

(This song is "This Is Me" from Camp Rock.)

"Do you know what it's like to feel so in the dark?" May sang softly. "To dream about a life where you're the shining star? Even though it seems like it's too far away. I have to believe in myself. It's the only way."

"This is real, this is me." May continued. "I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be now. Gonna let the light shine on me." The choir room door opened and someone walked in, but May didn't hear the person walk in. "Now I've found who I am. There's no way to hold it in." The person just stayed at the door, watching May play the piano and sing. "No more hiding who I wanna be. This is me." May sang, finishing the song.

It was quiet in the choir room for a moment before that person spoke.

"So."

May jumped a little at the voice from behind her. She quickly turned her upper body and she saw a boy standing at the door. "Devon, how long have you been there?" May asked.

"Not that long." Devon said, walking towards May. May turned around and faced the piano again. "Do you always come in here to hide your talents from the world?"

May smiled down at the keys. "Everyone in the entire school already knows how well I sing. I just came in here to practice a song that I'll be singing in the Homecoming play."

Devon sat down on a chair next to the piano.

"So...what are you doing in here?" May asked, looking at Devon. "No one really comes in here before school except me and my friends. But mainly me." She added, laughing slightly.

"Well, next week is Homecoming Week." Devon said. "I just came here to talk to Ms. Summer about attire for the Pep Rally when we walk down that aisle."

"Isn't it just formal attire?" May questioned. "Boys wear a suit or tux with black dress shoes."

"Right…" Devon said. He smiled. "But I think my outfit should match the Sweetheart's outfit."

"Black goes with everything." May said. "We'll match no matter what I wear."

"Umm...of course we will. Well, now that that's settled, how about you play some more keys?"

"Oh. Sorry, Devon, but I think my friends are here now. I should go meet up with them." May said, standing up. She bent down and picked up her backpack, standing up and putting it on.

"Wait. Before you go…"

May looked at Devon. "What is it?"

"Are you...free today after school by any chance?" Devon asked.

"I don't know. Why?"

"I was thinking that maybe you and I could hang out. There's a café not too far from here. Want to go with me?"

"You mean...like on a date?" May questioned.

"If that's what you want to call it."

"Umm...I can't." May answered.

"Why not?"

"Have you not heard yet? I...have a boyfriend."

An awkward silence filled the air until Devon finally broke it. "A boyfriend?"

"Yeah…" May answered. "I would think that the entire school knows by now. I'm sorry that this...got awkward." May said, looking away from him.

"No. It's fine." Devon said, standing up. "Who is your boyfriend?"

May looked at Devon. "Drew." She answered.

"Are you two close?"

"I...really don't want to talk to you about my personal life. Let's just...pretend that this never happened."

"Umm...sure." Devon agreed.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I should go meet up with my friends." May said. She turned and started walking towards the door.

("Drew…") Devon thought angrily. ("The one who gets all of the girls. He even got a Princess. But let's see how he handles the Pep Rally next week.")

"Hey guys...the Homecoming Dance isn't formal, right?" Kiara asked.

"Nope. It's not supposed to be formal." Misty said. "It's more like...casual and formal combined."

"Yeah. We would wear something more formal than our school clothes, but not as formal as say...a wedding." Dawn said.

"Oh...I think I know what I'll wear now." Kiara said.

"Well, if you know what you're wearing to the dance, then you should help me decide." May said.

"I'd love to!" Kiara said happily.

"Us girls need to look our best." Dawn said.

"And what about us guys?" Paul asked.

"You guys need to match us girls." Dawn said.

"Hold on." Ash said. "Can I ask why you're saying 'us girls' and 'us guys'? Is that proper English?"

"It is if I say so!" Dawn yelled at Ash. Everyone flinched a little at Dawn's yelling.

"Okay…" Drew said. He took May's hand and they looked at each other. "So, what color should we wear to match?"

"Hmm…" May hummed, thinking. She looked up at Drew's hair and then back at his eyes. She smiled. "Green. To compliment your eyes."

Drew smiled. "Don't forget my hair."

"Oh, I didn't." May said. "But I always love a person's eyes more than hair."

"...do you even have green clothes?" Drew asked.

"I have every color there is."

"Really?"

"I think…" May said. Drew chuckled. May joined in by giggling slightly. "Even if I don't have the perfect outfit for the dance, we have fashion designers at the castle that can make me one."

Riiiiiinnnnnnggggggg!

"We better get going to class." Misty said.

School is out for the day. May, Kiara, and Dahlia are in May's room.

"So...how about this one?" May asked, walking out of her walk-in closet. She's wearing a light green dress that reaches down to slightly below the knee. The top area of the dress is a lacy, black, see-through, flowery design. Around the waist is a black ribbon that ties into a bow in the front and left side of the dress.

"And I think we have a winner." Kiara said.

"After 10 dresses...this is definitely the best one to wear." Dahlia said.

May twirled around. "Thanks. Now, I actually need to go to the fashion designers room."

"Really? Why?" Kiara asked.

"I want them to make a waistband for my scepter, but it'll be black." May answered.

"Oh...good idea." Kiara said.

And so that's what May did. She went to the royal fashion designers and asked if they could make her a black waistband that looks like her pink one, only black, and they got to work right away. The waistband was ready in 2 days. May tried it on and it fit perfectly. Her complete Homecoming look was ready for next week.

"Okay Rapidash, let's go." May said, tapping her right foot on Rapidash's side.

May is currently riding on Rapidash. They're going at a steady pace through Petalburg City. May waves to the people and they wave back.

May breathes in the fresh air of the afternoon. She looks around at the people. "Smiles, check. Family, check. Friends, check. I don't see any frowns, Rapidash." Rapidash neighed in agreement. May exhaled. "I love my job."

"Help!"

May heard someone yell for help. "Rapidash, sense." May said.

Rapidash stopped walking and she looked around, sensing who needed help. Her ears perk up and she looks down the street to the right of them.

"Down that way?" May questioned. Rapidash neighed in agreement. "Okay then." May gripped onto Rapidash's mane. "Run like the wind!"

Rapidash started running in the direction of the voice. They soon came in view of a 2-story house with a balcony. They saw parents outside of the house looking up.

"He's gonna fall!" The Mom yelled worriedly.

"Mom, Dad, help me!" A boy yelled.

May gasped at the sight of the 8-year old boy. He's hanging down from the balcony. How he got on the other side of the railing, no one knows. But one thing's for sure, he's losing his grip on the balcony.

"I'm slipping!" The boy yelled.

"Not on my watch." May said. She pulled out her scepter. Rapidash ran into the property and neighed, signaling the parents to move. The parents saw the horse and they quickly stepped away. Rapidash came to a stop and that's when the boy lost his grip and he started falling to the ground.

May quickly pointed her scepter to the boy. "Levitate!" The boy got outlined in pink and he came to a stop in midair, 4 feet above the ground. He was slowly lowered to the ground.

"You're alright!" The Mom said, running to her child.

The parents hugged their son and then looked up at Princess May.

"Thank you for saving him, Your Highness." The Mom said.

"It was my pleasure." May said.

"Thank you very much." The boy said.

"You're welcome. Be careful now."

"I will." The boy said.

May nodded. She then pulled slightly on Rapidash's mane. Rapidash turned around and they walked back to the road. May put her scepter in her waistband.

"That was some fast running, Rapidash." May said. Rapidash neighed happily. "And I can't believe I actually stayed on. That was a little scary to ride at that speed."

Rapidash neighed, communicating with May.

"Yeah...you're right." May said. "I channeled the fact that someone was in trouble and I had no fear of falling off."

"Princess May?"

May looked towards a male voice coming from the side of a building. May stopped Rapidash from moving and she climbed off, facing the person that called her. "Hey Devon, what are you doing here?"

Devon walked to May. "I live here in Petalburg. I'm just walking around town for no reason at all and I'm definitely not spying on you or anything." He lied.

"Umm...okay…" May said.

An awkward silence filled the air for a minute. At this time, Drew is walking down the sidewalk that's connected to the one that May and Devon are on. He turns a corner, sees May and Devon, and he quickly hides against the wall of a building, making sure that they won't see him. He starts spying on them.

"So umm…" Devon started, breaking the silence. "I hear you like roses, so here." Devon said, taking out a rose from his pocket and holding it to May.

Drew gasped. "I knew that he likes May." He mumbled. "How will she react?"

"I thought I'd get you a rose because I know you love them." Devon said.

May looked at the rose and then back at Devon. "Umm...where did you hear that I like roses from?"

"From lots of boys in school." Devon answered.

("Of course…") May thought.

"So, this rose is yours." Devon said, still holding the rose out to May.

"Oh. Umm...sorry, Devon." May said. "I can't accept that."

"Sure you can."

"Well...I won't accept it. The reason why I like roses so much is because...they represent love." May said. "And I only love when I receive roses from Drew, because...you know...he's my boyfriend." Drew smiled from around the corner.

Devon pulled back his hand with the rose. "Right. But...he doesn't have to know about this."

Drew's eyebrows furrowed. ("Really? He wants May to keep it a secret that he's been trying to get together with her?")

"Sorry, Devon." May said. "But I won't do that to Drew. And I'm not even interested in you, so I probably won't accept the rose anyway if I wasn't dating Drew."

"But the reason you aren't into me is because you're dating him." Devon said. "If you two never met, then we might be together."

"Listen, I really am done talking about this." May said. "I just came to you because you called me, but if you're just trying to be with me, then I think I'll just leave now." May said, turning around and walking to Rapidash.

Drew smiled. ("That's my Princess.")

"Wait. Are you sure that someone like Drew can really make you happy?" Devon asked. May climbed onto Rapidash.

"What do you mean?" May asked.

"Just think about it. Every girl in the entire school is in love with him. They'll definitely be all over him, leaving you to just watch as they try to woo him. And just wait until he ends up falling for one of them."

May didn't respond. She just looked down at Rapidash's mane, thinking about what Devon said.

("Don't let him get in your head…") Drew thought.

"No." May said.

"No?" Devon questioned.

May looked at Devon. "Drew will never fall in love with one of his fans. And he is the one who can really make me happy. So you're wrong about him."

Devon stayed quiet.

"Now, I need to go back to the castle." May said. She tapped the right side of Rapidash with her foot. They started walking back to the castle.

Drew smiled as he watched May leave. ("She's amazing.") He thought. ("She completely rejected him because she loves me.")

Drew's gaze moved to the buildings across the street. He saw a cloaked figure, leaning against the walls of a restaurant. Drew's expression turned to a serious one.

("That looks like the same cloaked figure that I saw the other day.") Drew thought. ("I can't see his face because of the cloak, but what does he want with May? I always see him around where May is. He better not hurt her.")
