Back again! To guest reviewer Rosalyn: Hi there! I've definitely taken a decent break from I'll Write My Way Out, but I do have ideas for it in the future! I'm so glad you'd still like to read after such a long hiatus, so with any luck I'll be able to find my old Word files and make some time to work on that again, though it might still be a bit before another update. Tysm, and merry Christmas!
From guest Hi: Could you also do this drabble: Philipdosia first meeting/awkward/they both don't know what to say/they argue about politics?
"Oh-!"
"Sorry, sorry-oh, your books-"
"It's fine, I should've been watching where I was going-"
"No, no, you're good," Phillip handed a stack of books back to the girl he'd just barreled into. "My fault."
She tucked a stray curl back into place behind her ear, cradling the novels to her chest. "Thank you." She glanced over at a clock hanging on the wall. "I, uh, I gotta get to my bio class…"
"In the east wing?"
"Yeah."
"My English class is right down that hall. I could walk you? Make sure no other assholes knock you over?"
The girl smiled. "Sure. Thanks…"
"Phillip."
"Theo." Was he seeing things, or was she blushing, too? They made their way up the main staircase, chatting all the way.
"Hey, your last name wouldn't happen to be Burr?"
"That's me. You know my family?"
"Ha! Yeah, I think our dads have a feud going on or something…"
The next two are from guest Sora: philodosia, 1800s, philip didn't die in a duel in this au and he's bringing the woman he is courting (theo) to meet his fam and the fam turns on alex cos he doesn't like theo cos she's burr's daughter. Long but short lol.
"Alexander!" Eliza hissed in his ear. "Office. Now."
Alex followed, throwing a glance over his shoulder to the parlor, where Phillip and the woman he just introduced to them were sitting next to each other on the sofa, both looking uncomfortable (and, in Phillip's case, heartbroken). Phillip reached over to clasp her hand. Her.
Theodosia Burr.
Aaron Burr's daughter.
With his son.
Eliza spun around as soon as they were out of sight from the couple, face more furious than he'd seen in a long time.
"I thought we were past this immaturity, Alexander. This is ridiculous."
"What immaturity? He's courting-"
"I know very well who he's courting."
"Then how can you just stand there? Burr-"
"This is not about Aaron! This is about you. Did you see that poor girl's face when you turned on Phillip like that? You need to let go of the prejudice you have against Burr's family, if only for our son."
"What if they get married?"
Eliza pressed her lips together. "Then they get married, and we support them, and you make a lovely speech during the reception that isn't an hour long."
Alex huffed a half-laugh, half-sigh. She was right. Of course she was right.
"He hates me now." How could Phillip not, with the way he'd reacted?
"He does not hate you. Now go out there and apologize to the both of them." Eliza patted his arm. "I'll be there in just a moment with tea."
Alex snuck a look back into the parlor. Phillip and Theodosia were speaking in hushed whispers, hands clasped between them. Theodosia was shaking her head as Phillip murmured something in her ear, and Alex was struck suddenly with how alike they looked to when he and Eliza first began their courtship. Phillip looked up, catching his eye, and Alex stepped fully into the room.
"Miss Burr," he said, and found the words didn't scrape against his throat like they had before, "I have an apology…"
Peggylaf, proposal funny, fluff
"Margarita Schuyler-"
"It's Peggy, Gilbert-"
"-Would you do me the honor-"
"If that ring isn't at least the size of a strawberry, all bets are off-"
"-of being my lawfully wedded w-"
"Oh, come on!" A third voice echoed through the food court, and the two teens turned to see Alex rolling his eyes. "Laf, you cannot be proposing with a Chinese takeout box."
"Oui, mon ami! Very original, no?"
"You guys are ridiculous." Alex shot a look at Peggy. "You weren't going to say yes, were you?"
"Hm," Peggy picked up a pair of chopsticks and snatched the food out of Lafayette's hands. "If it was Thai, I might be more swayed."
Thank you for reading, and I hope you all have a happy new year soon! :)
