Chapter Nine: Last Stand
Happytown
One of the whores they busted yesterday finally talked. She was a young she-wolf, who was starved, beaten and addicted to heroin. She said the only reason she'd talk was if her friends would be sent to therapy instead of prison once their pimp, and his boss Salazar, were safely behind bars. Nick and Judy were more than happy to make this arrangement, not even needing to do much convincing for Bogo, as this was what he'd hoped would happen. Judy took Allie Ottman (the otter) Mike Wolford and Scott Fangmeyer, most of the old squad so to speak, with her to Salazar's residence in Happytown. Oddly enough, Danny never made it to work that day and Nick mysteriously called in sick. Judy was worried about her fiance, who only told her that she'd find out later.
That particular evening, a heavy rainstorm hit Zootopia, obstructing the view of most enemies and providing the perfect cover. The team brought night vision goggles for this occasion, ensuring it remains an advantage. They snuck up to the tenement, seemingly converted into a fortress, with the fences, windows and outer wall patrolled by gang members carrying AKs, Uzis and shotguns. Judy and the team brought suppressed MP5s, expecting a fight and prepared to shoot to kill. As Scott and Mike offed a wolf and a panther guarding the alleyway to the left of the building, Judy climbed up the fire escape to survey the area.
"They can't see anything in this storm," said Judy, with the wind and heavy rain muffling her voice, "as long as we're outside, they're blind!" "What about inside," asked Mike. "The power station in this sector is still up," answered Allie, "once we go in, we'll have to be completely silent or the Immortals will butcher us!" "Not if I cut the power," answered Judy. "I see the circuit breaker," said Scott, eyeing a big grey box against the wall with thick wires connected to it, "give me some bolt cutters and they won't see a damn thing in there!"
Meanwhile in the building, Salazar sat inside his spacious, illegally converted apartment in his silk robe smoking a cigar and reading an old book by lamp light. Then all of a sudden, all he could see was the burning end of his cigar. "Joey," shouted Salazar, "what the fuck happened?" A cougar in a white undershirt barged in carrying a flashlight. "Boss," said Joey, "someone cut the power!" "Then grab a gun and kill the bastards," ordered Salazar.
"Stairs clear," said Scott as the coyote he shot stumbled down in front of him. "I'm hearing some chatter," said Judy as her ears perked up and surveyed the area. Slightly obscured by the storm was the sound of about a dozen mammals, all carrying guns, searching the halls of the tenement. "They must be onto us," said Judy. "We may have to shoot our way to Salazar," said Wolford, "my nose is coming back, so I know the bastard jaguar is in here." "That sounds great but I'm not ready to die," said Allie nervously. "We won't," said Fangmeyer reassuringly, "but some of them will."
Brakabrakabrakabrakabrakabrakabrak!
"They're shooting at us," cried Allie as she dove for cover. "They can't even see us," said Judy, "but we can!" The four officers took their shots, downing several of the Immortals pursuing them. Then they made their way into Salazar's converted penthouse.
"ZPD! Freeze," barked Judy as she, Allie, Mike and Scott trained their weapons on the pistol clutching, cigar smoking jaguar. "So this is how it ends," said Slazar, "you bust some of my working girls and you shoot my boys. You must be real proud assholes." "I'll be proud when you're doing twenty to life," answered Judy. "Put me away," mocked Slazar, "not kill me like your fiance did to Colonel Spotzen, or you to Hans Fluffer? More importantly," he paused for dramatic effect, "what you should have done with Dylan Krueger?" "Where is that cougar now," demanded Judy, "I know why you busted him out, now tell me what else you want to do with that professional killer!" Salazar laughed as Mike and Scott cuffed him, then he spoke. "He has his own mission now, revenge."

This was where Nick and Judy solved their first major case. This was an important spot to them, where the late Dawn Bellwether attempted to dart Nick with night howlers, forcing him to kill Judy. They only survived because they knew what to expect, but tonight, Nicholas Piberius Wilde didn't know what would happen. As he walked into that very same room, he saw Dylan Krueger, his old enemy, holding an MP5K up to Danny's head, with the poor kangaroo cuffed to a chair.
"You wanted me," said Nick angrily, "you got me! Let the boy go and we can settle this!" "He looks a lot like his father," said Krueger, "and he's got that same fighting spirit. He would have had a great career." "What's this about," asked Nick, "Danny didn't kill Spotzen, I did. And what did you do to Mack's boy?" "Same shit I did to you when you foolishly brought his daddy to try and save your girlfriend," answered Krueger, "tonight, we're gonna find out what really matters to you."
Krueger put down the gun and got into a fighting pose. Nick did the same. "Come on you piss colored pussy," taunted Nick, ready for Krueger to charge at him, which he did. Nick just barely dodged the deadly cat, who nearly slammed his head into a wall. Then Nick jumped on top of Krueger and began clawing all over his head. "I won't let you do this," screamed Nick, "Martha already lost her husband to those animals! I won't let you take her son!" Krueger threw Nick off him, violently slamming him onto the marble floor. Nick got up, bruised and bleeding from his mouth, but ready to go again.
Krueger walked up to Nick and said, "You have a beautiful young lady in your life. Once I off the kid, I'll bite her head off!" Then as Nick felt the rage flow through him at the thought of that monster harming Judy again, Krueger clawed at him. Nick dodged the strike and grabbed onto his arm, biting Krueger's paw as hard as he could. Krueger whimpered in pain as Nick attempted to take off a chunk of flesh, only for him to shake off the fox. This time, Nick landed on his feet then darted towards Danny.
"Are you okay kid," asked Nick to the beat up kangaroo. "That fucker stabbed the side of my muzzle with his index claw," answered Danny. "Get over here Nick," demanded Krueger, "or I'll find Judy myself!" Dylan Krueger, thought Nick as he stared down Krueger angrily, it's time for you to die! Then as Krueger charged at Nick again, Nick shoved Danny sideways, then darted under Krueger, grabbing a pistol off him, and slid it to Danny. "Shoot the bastard!"
Blam! Blam! Blam!
Krueger's brains splattered out of the back of his head onto the tile floor, leaving massive stains as he fell backwards dead. Danny, remembering all the trickshotting his dad taught him, managed to turn the gun around with one paw and aim it right at the cougar's head, and killed him before he could do any more harm. Then he started bawling as Nick worked to free him.
"Come on Danny," said Nick, trying to comfort the kangaroo, "you're safe now. Dylan's never going to hurt anyone again." "I miss my daddy," cried Danny, "that monster killed him, his friends killed him!" "I'm sorry about what happened," said Nick to Danny, "I wish we could have done it differently too. But don't worry," he glanced back at the dead cat, "I think he was definitely with us tonight. Now I'm gonna get you out of here and we'll go see a doctor." "And my mom," asked Danny. "We all have family to see," answered Nick.
