After the fight, the peerage gave themselves sometime to rest, and recover from any injuries they had suffered, during which Caean decided to walk over to Alasdair who was lying next to a boulder where he had been placed after his hand was reattached, his gaze focused on his right hand looking for any scars, but none could be found.
!What do I say to him...he's been through so much, and he hates me for everything I've done." Caean mumbled to himself as he approached Alasdair.
!You okay Alasdair... how's your hand?" Caean knelt down and faced Alasdair.
Alasdair didn't answer.
I guess I he doesn't want to talk. That's okay, he's been through..." Caean told himself as he was caught off guard by Alasdair.
My hands aww right... could have been worse." Alasdair grumbled.
"Aye. Beithir could have turned you into a mindless slave, if he wanted to."
"He didn't need to... he knew id do anything he asked as long as it got me to you... I was blinded by my hatred towards you that I couldn't see he was using me." Alasdair took a deep breath and looked away from Caean.
"Don't hate yourself for that Alasdair. I...I lost myself in my own hatred, and I paid the price." Caean knelt back down and sighed.
"How did you lose control Caean? I still don't understand, you never wanted to harm your family or my sister, you loved them and you turned into a monster and killed them." Alasdair growled in an annoyed tone.
"I had so much anger I never showed until I got on the battlefield, it drove me to do things I wouldn't do, and I focussed that hate on those who harmed our people, but when I blacked out that day, I woke to the sight of my home burning! I...I saw red and I lost control...Beithir knew I hated his followers and him, so he used my own hatred to make me think those attacking our home was his followers...they where just people going about their day...and it was what your sister said that made me realise everything I had done...im so sorry" Caean whispered his voice breaking when the thoughts of his village burning came to mind.
"I see... after what Beithir did to me, I know you had no control over what you did that day...however, I cant accept your apology, even though you didn't mean for this to happen, you destroyed my home, my family and you took my sisters life, the woman tou loved... I cant forgive you."
"I know, I realised that as soon as u saw you...i know you wont accept my apology but I apologies again. Ill try and make amends for what I did and I promise you that ill honour your family and your sister, and try and ill make sure that Beithir will never do this again... I give you my word." Caean put his hand up to his shoulder
Tha mi a 'mionnachadh air mo bhòid mar shliochd Cu Chulainn, gun toir mi urram do theaghlach agus gun dìon mi an saoghal bho fheirg Beithir." Caean stated in his native tongue, binding himself to the oath he made.
Alasdair stood up from the rock and to Caean's surprise he slowly stretched out his hand towards Caean.
"Gabhaidh mi do bhòid." (I accept your oath) Alasdair stated as Caean took his hand and slowly shook it.
"So what will you do now." Caean asked.
"I will return home... ill try and rebuild what little is left, and start anew, its what my family would want." Alasdair sighed, knowing full well the difficult such a task would bring.
"I know you'll do it, once its done, I hope im able to see it." Caean mumbled. As Alasdair turned and started to walk away
"You will someday...ill see you again, Caean." Alasdair summoned a portal and entered it. While he knew he could never forgive Caean for what he had done, he knew Caean would uphold his oath and it would be unfair to not allow Caean the chance to visit his home, after it was rebuilt, given how much he had been though.
"Goodbye Alasdair...i wont let you down." Caean whispered as he saw the portal fade away.
After Alasdair left Caean walked over to meet with the rest of the peerage.
"everyone, I want to apologise, I lied to you all and I want to make amends for what I done, you put yourselves in harms way to save me, and I swear to you all that ill do the same when your all in your times of need." Caean bent his knee and knelt in front of the peerage, bowing his head.
"Caean, please stand." Rias asked as she helped Caean to his feet.
"I should be the one apologising... I never realised how much pain you had inside and I almost left you to die, I accept your apology and please if you ever need help please ask us, we're right here for you." Rias stated in her presidential tone.
"Yeah man, if you need us were right here, don't be scared to ask okay?" Issei proclaimed as he walked over to Caean and patted him on the shoulder
"Yeah, don't worry about asking." Asia sheepishly sighed, as the rest of the peerage broke out into their own showings of support.
"Thank you...i needed to hear that." Caean whispered as she wiped a tear from his eye.
Lets go home...we need to celebrate this victory. Any suggestions?" Rias asked as she opened a portal to Issei's home.
Well, since you asked we could watch a Scottish comedy show I'm sure you'll all like." Caean grinned as the peerage walked into the portal
Ohhh what is it?" Akeno purred
"Its called Still game, its a comedy, about old pensioners and their lives in a place called Craiglang. Really funny, though I might need to translate a few bits." Caean sighed as she let the girls enter the portal first
"Sure. Why not, im up for watching something new." Issei chucked as she entered the portal
Caean was about to enter when he felt a force almost stop his movement, forcing him to stop before he entered the portal.
"You may have beaten me this time Caean and you may have control for now but someday, your resolve will slip and I will be free, and once I am, I will tear your new family apart piece by piece." Beithir hissed from within the sacred gear.
"I wont let that happen Beithir, I swore to keep you in check, you will never harm anyone like that again...besides I have my family to keep me in check, if I slip, they will catch me, you'll never get that opportunity for as long as I live." Caean growled as he forcefully closed the sacred gear, ending the conversation, and with a deep breath he entered the portal and returned to his new home, with his new family at his side.
The end.
I hope everyone enjoyed the story, was a little idea that I wished to try out. besides I feel that their needs to be more Scottish representation in anime, so I couldn't resist the opportunity. I hope everybody is well, and keep safe.
