(A/N) I love my smol children. November is next week, and this is the final update before I stop for November. Everything will resume in December of course. Also it's Orochimaru and Torune's birthdays! So happy birthday to them.
It was easier than he thought to slip away from Tenten to go find a knife, she'd suggested they seperate for a little while to check around the city for any information. Missions to the capital were rare, and as such, were often duel information gathering missions.
Tenten had instructed him to act normal, whatever that meant, and enter some shops, so he found a decorative weapons shop and went in.
"Looking for anything specific?" The shopkeeper asked, looking amused. "Been a while since I had a lovestruck Uchiha in here."
Shisui choked on nothing. "Huh?"
She smirked at him. "When you've seen one, you've seen em all. So, who's the lucky shinobi? And what bone did they break?"
"She hasn't broken any of my bones yet," Shisui admitted. "But she tore someone's arm off."
"Oooh, a strong one is she?" The shopkeeper continued smirking, getting up and coming around the counter.
"Well the dude was trying to steal my eye, so it was probably warranted," Shisui agreed, trailing after her in mild confusion. "Where are you going?"
"You want a decorative weapon, don't you?" She laughed, taking a turn. "They're this way. I make a good section of our stock, so if you don't see anything you like, I can probably make something to your specifications, just give me a few weeks. I don't get commissions much, so I don't usually have much else to do."
"Wait what's your name?" Shisui asked, realizing he hadn't seen any sort of name on the shop's outside.
"You can call me Spyte," She called back, moving aside for him. "Here's the knives, kunai, and swords, if you don't like any here I have some others in the back made with other materials, these are just the ones made of standard material, wood and metal mostly."
"Are they durable?" Shisui asked, trailing his fingers over a blue handled blade, a pair of carved dolphins making the crosspiece.
"You bet, most have seals inlaid in the materials."
Shisui glanced back at her. She did look like an Uzumaki. She grinned back at him, looking completely unrepentant. "You're telling me this why?"
"You asked if they were durable," she chirped in response.
She had a point.
"So, like any of the ones you see?" She asked after a moment.
Shisui hummed noncommittally. He did kind of like the knife engraved with hawks or falcons on the blade, a perching falcon on the handle. Perhaps he didn't quite know enough about her to get a knife yet. He didn't know if she had summons or anything. "Can we check the back?"
Spyte made an affirmative noise, turning and leading him towards the back. "I keep these back here cause they're mostly side projects I do for fun. Sometimes people want stranger things then just normal wood and metal though."
She passed back a knife. "Silver and obsidian. A pretty combo, I have a few engraved differently."
The one he held was engraved with what looked like sparrows. It was kinda cute, he had to admit that.
"We can check what I have of that, or check the other stones."
"Other stones?" Shisui asked curiously.
"Well yeah, because of seals, I can use a lot of weird stones other people can't. It comes in handy sometimes."
"I bet," Shisui had to agree.
Shisui left a while later, whistling cheerfully with a new knife settled into a sealing scroll for Tenten later. For now, he had to meet up with Tenten for lunch and they'd swap information gathered.
Shisui paused momentarily to look at some fruit to disguise his eavesdropping. That conversation sounded interesting.
"No, that plan won't work," a voice disagreed. "We have to be more careful. What if there are ninja in the capital right now?"
"There wouldn't be, the security checks aren't for another three months. There's no reason any would be here."
"We should still be careful," a third person, possibly a leader, who knew. "Ninja are strange creatures."
Very informative as to what normal civvie capital people thought of ninja, but he still didn't know what they were planning. That was kind of the most important part.
"Then we'll need a new plan to overthrow the Daimyo." The second voice said.
"It has to be quick too, we have to ensure the ninja don't see anything off when they do come to visit in three months." The first agreed.
"They'll see something off anyway, we just have to make sure they either don't raise a fuss, or just think it's weird capital politics," the third disagreed.
Well that explained a few things, now he just either had to figure out who they were, and possibly part of their plan. Shisui felt mildly bad for the person who's store he was standing in front of, and bought a couple apples to munch on. Sue him, he was hungry, and a teenage boy to boot. No one had any place judging his eating habits, not when he was a perfectly healthy teenager.
Twenty minutes more of standing there or rotating between the nearby stalls, and he had the information he needed. He was also late, but he figured Tenten wouldn't have too much of an issue. He had important information afterall.
(A/N) Hello! It is, somewhat unfortunately, November next month. As such, I will not be posting during that time. See you in like a month and half.
