Chapter 15: Joseph V.S. Corrupted Simon
Joseph battles against Corrupted Simon who now has magic of his own. Lindel was given lightning, Angelica was given crystals, what is Simon's new gift?

Joseph ran up to Simon with his sword ready for battle. Joseph swung his sword down at Simon, but Simon sidestepped out of the way and shoved Joseph back a bit. Joseph turned around and faced his opponent.
"I can't believe they got you too, Simon." Joseph said.
"And since when did you care about me, Cartaphilus?" Corrupted Simon asked.
"It's Joseph. Cartaphilus is your master, and a monster that I wish I had never lent a hand to." Joseph said.
"That may be true, but you were both once merged in one body, were you not?" Corrupted Simon asked.
"We were, and that was the worst time of my life. The only thing I'm thankful to the Spell-Breaker for is for separating us into 2 separate bodies." Joseph said.
"You are the one who we have a bone to pick with the most, Joseph. As when we were alive, you were a major threat to Chise." Corrupted Simon said.
"Thanks for reminding me. Let me guess, you now want to kill Chise, right?" Joseph asked.
"Clever one aren't you? That is correct. I would love to kill Chise now! She will pay for what she did to me!" Corrupted Simon said.
"Look, I'm sorry about your death, but it wasn't Chise's fault. She wasn't that one that brutally murdered you. That was the Spell-Breaker." Joseph said.
"Think of it this way, a mob boss sends his assassin to kill someone, who do you blame? The assassin or the mob boss? In our case, the Spell-Breaker was the assassin, but Chise was the mob boss." Corrupted Simon explained.
"For crying out loud, Chise wasn't the one who ordered your death! The Spell-Breaker killed you on his own account!" Joseph yelled.
"Maybe so! But if Chise hadn't caused suffering for the Spell-Breaker, me and everyone else would still be alive!" Corrupted Simon said.
"Listen Simon, do you think God would want this for you!? To serve someone almost as evil as the devil himself!?" Joseph asked.
"I serve no God anymore! I serve The Great Cartaphilus and the Spell-Breaker! They are my God and master! Chise has sinned against us! Therefore, she will pay! I will send her soul straight down to hell where it belongs!" Corrupted Simon said.
"If only you could hear yourself, Simon. I may not have known you at all, but I'm sure that the real you would despise what you've become now. Don't you see!? You are literally a pawn for Cartaphilus to use as he pleases! Is that what you want!? Is that what your going to accept as your destiny!?" Joseph asked.
"I will do anything, if it results in Chise's death!" Corrupted Simon said.
"As Chise Hatori's friend, I Joseph, will defend her at all costs. I'll try not to kill you, but I will make sure you feel pain, Simon." Joseph said.
"You do not scare me, gravedigger!" Corrupted Simon said,
"This is your only warning, stop this crap now and no one has to get hurt." Joseph said.
"I would rather watch you die a painful death, like I did!" Corrupted Simon yelled.
"You think you know pain, Simon? No, not yet. You will feel pain!" Joseph yelled.

Joseph swung his sword at Simon again, only for Simon to once again sidestep out of the way and shove Joseph back. Joseph grunted in anger as he swung at Simon over and over and over again. Simon just kept on sidestepping out of the way. Joseph then went in for another swing. This time, he stopped right before he swung his sword, so Simon had sidestepped for nothing. With Simon confused, Joseph punched Simon in the face.
"A feint? Clever tactic. But is that all you have up your sleeve, gravedigger?" Corrupted Simon asked as he kicked Joseph in the chest.
Joseph stumbled back a bit, but kept his posture. Joseph was already pissed at how this fight was going so he clenched his sword with both hands and started swinging at Simon. Simon again kept dodging all of the attacks and was not hit once. Joseph never even managed to cut Simon's clothing. Joseph was now super pissed as he let out a yell of anger. Joseph's swings became faster and more deadly. Even Simon had to be extra careful as he dodged. Eventually, Joseph went for a downward slice on Simon, but Simon blocked Joseph's arms with one arm while he punched Joseph in the face with his free hand. Simon then knocked Joseph's sword out of his hand and then picked him up and threw him. Joseph hit the ground hard as he rolled a bit.
"You're weak, Joseph! How can you possibly protect Chise?" Corrupted Simon asked as he tossed Joseph's sword to him.
Joseph didn't answer as he went to pick up his sword.
"Ice Beam!" Corrupted Simon yelled as he shot a beam of ice at Joseph from his hands.
Right as Joseph was about to pick up his sword, he was suddenly frozen by the Ice Beam.
"What the!? You don't have magic!" Joseph said as he was frozen by a very thin, but super cold layer of ice.
"You're right, I DIDN'T have magic. But thanks to Cartaphilus, I have the Ice Magic now." Corrupted Simon said as he began slowly approaching Joseph.
Joseph was trying to break out of the ice as Simon got closer. As Simon approached, he decided to taunt Joseph a bit with some terrible jokes.
"Oh my, you must be chilled to the bone. (Chuckle) Please, allow me to break the ice. Frost Blade!" Corrupted Simon said as he made a sword made of ice and held it up, and brought it down to Joseph, fully intending to kill him.
"I fucking hate ice jokes!" Joseph yelled as he broke out of the ice, grabbed his sword, and blocked the attack.
Joseph then stood up and began clashing his sword with Simon's Frost Blade. Simon was very impressed with Joseph's skill now that they were actually fighting. Joseph went for the head, but Simon blocked it with his sword and the two tried to push forward. Their swords turned and moved as they tried to force their way past each other. Joseph then pulled back and stepped to the side, causing Simon to fall forward. Joseph used this opportunity to land a good cut across Simon's back. Simon yelled in pain as he felt Joseph's sword cut his back. Simon quickly recovered and stood off against Joseph.
"My, my, you need to chill out, Joseph." Corrupted Simon said as he grinned.
"Shut up, right... now." Joseph said as he started breathing very angrily.
"What's wrong? Don't tell me you've got cold feet?" Corrupted Simon said.
"FUCK YOU!" Joseph yelled as he clashed blades with Simon again.
Joseph swung his sword at Simon's leg, but Simon dodged and went for a decapitation. Joseph ducked under the attack and went for an upward swing. Simon brought his blade down and blocked Joseph's attack. Joseph brought his sword back and swung again. Simon swung his blade as well and they collided. Joseph knew that as long as Simon had that Frost Blade, this fight was never going to end. Joseph then thought of an idea and put his plan into action. After the two clashed blades together a few more times, Joseph raised his sword up and brought it down to Simon's head. Simon quickly blocked the attack, but Joseph did not stop as he just kept on whacking Simon's Frost Blade over and over. All the while, Simon was just holding his sword up, preventing Joseph from cutting his head in half. This went on for a few more minutes when Simon heard the sound of ice cracking. Simon looked to his blade and saw that it was starting to break from the constant beatings from Joseph's sword. Joseph then gave one good final swing and shattered Simon's Frost Blade to pieces.
Simon stumbled back as his blade was destroyed. He had no time to rest however as Joseph immediately began swinging his sword at him. Simon ducked, weaved, and jumped over every swing from Joseph's sword. Joseph then went for another head strike, but Simon stopped the attack by grabbing Joseph's hands. As they struggled to overpower each other, Joseph kicked Simon in the groin. Simon of course, stumbled back and groaned in pain.
"Had enough?" Joseph asked.
"OF YOU, YES! ICICLE CRASH!" Corrupted Simon yelled as he raised his hands up, summoning a bunch of icicles, then throwing them all at Joseph.
Joseph reacted quickly by spinning his sword in a circle fast. This, by pure luck, managed to prevent a single icicle from hitting Joseph. Seeing how this didn't work, Simon switched to his Ice Beam attack as he fired his beam of ice at Joseph. Joseph began running straight for Simon, while jumping to the side every time the Ice Beam would come close to hitting him. Joseph finally reached Simon and then managed to stab Simon right through the stomach. The two then froze and did not move. Simon then put his hand on Joseph's shoulder as he stared into nothing while panting heavily.
"It's over... I've won. Feel free to fall, Simon. I'm sure the others have some sort of magic spell that can keep you alive until we find a way to fix you." Joseph said as he kept his sword in Simon's stomach.
Simon said nothing as he kept panting hard. Joseph then noticed something, when he stabbed Simon there was no sign of blood near the wound and no blood spewing out of Simon's mouth either. Simon then put an evil grin on his face.
"We're not... done yet." Corrupted Simon said as his whole body was suddenly turned into ice and then his whole body shattered into pieces.
Joseph was of course shocked at this as he had no clue what had just happened. Before he could do anything else, he heard what sounded like something being frozen by fast-acting ice from behind him. Joseph turned around and saw an ice sculpture that looked just like Simon. Then the ice on that sculpture shattered and out came Simon, unharmed and no sword wound in his stomach.
"What!? How!? I stabbed you through the stomach!" Joseph yelled.
"(Chuckle) Ice Clone. Pretty cool, huh?" Corrupted Simon asked as he grinned.
"Shut up! How did you do that!?" Joseph yelled, completely ignoring Simon's ice joke.
"I told you, I have Ice Magic now. That's what matters." Corrupted Simon said as he started forming a rather large ball of ice between his hands. "Ice Ball!" Corrupted Simon yelled as he threw the Ice Ball at Joseph.
Joseph just held his sword up, thinking his sword would cut the ball in half, but surprisingly, when the ball hit his sword, Joseph felt as if he was shoved by a giant or something.
"Unlike my Frost Blade, you can't break my new attack. Ice Ball!" Corrupted Simon yelled as he threw another Ice Ball at Joseph.
This time, Joseph just jumped out of the way as he avoided contact with the Ice Ball. Simon grunted at this as he started blasting more and more Ice Balls at Joseph, with Joseph avoiding every single one. Simon then switched to his Icicle Crash attack but Joseph also avoided that attack. Simon then decided to mess up Joseph's dodging strategy by altering the ground as Joseph was making his way to him. Simon knelt down, raised his hands up and then slammed both hands on the ground.
"Glaciate!" Corrupted Simon yelled as he suddenly covered a good amount of the ground where Joseph was with ice.
Having no time to avoid this, Joseph slipped and fell face forward on the ground. This went perfectly for Simon as he unleashed his next attack.
"Ice Pillars!" Corrupted Simon yelled as, while raising one arm, started to make a bunch of long, tall, and sharp ice covered pillars burst out of the ground.
Joseph looked up and saw the pillars coming out of the ground closer and closer to him and fast too. Joseph tried to get up and run away, but he kept on slipping on the icy ground from the Glaciate attack. Joseph was on his hands and knees still trying to get up and then an Ice Pillar burst out of the ground right in front of his face. The pillar missed his head, but managed to cut Joseph's right eye. Joseph fell back and screamed as he held his eye in pain. Joseph's right eye was completely cut open and was no longer useful. Joseph shook the pain off as best he could as the ice on the ground melted instantly, as well as the Ice Pillars sinking back into the ground. Joseph then ripped off one of his sleeves and wrapped it around his head, covering his damaged eye. Joseph then picked up his sword, stood up, and started running to Simon. Simon then formed his Frost Blade again and ran at Joseph too as they locked blades with each other once again. Joseph was having a difficult time keeping up with Simon as the pain in his right eye was still killing him. But Joseph decided to go for a strategy that worked last time. As soon as their blades were locked together good enough, Joseph kicked Simon hard in the groin. This caused Simon to drop his Frost Blade. Joseph took this opportunity to land a nasty cut on Simon's hands, cutting the palms badly. Simon held up his hands in pain as he began bleeding from his palms. Joseph then lunged forward and stabbed Simon through the middle of his chest. Simon froze and stared at Joseph. Joseph thought he finally got Simon, but he was surprised and frustrated when Simon's body suddenly turned into ice and then his whole body shattered into piece once again. Simon had used his Ice Clone again.
Simon then appeared from behind Joseph and tried to tackle him to the ground. Joseph had seen this coming as he sidestepped out of the way, causing Simon to fall on the ground face first. Joseph then jumped on top of him, grabbed Simon by the back of the head and then started smashing his head against the ground. Joseph did this a few good times before turning Simon over and then started punching him in the face. As Simon was getting his face beat in by Joseph, he kneed Joseph in the crotch. Simon then shoved Joseph off of him and picked up his Frost Blade. Joseph crawled over and picked up his sword, just in time too as Simon was swing at Joseph while he was down. Joseph had no time to stand so he had to block Simon's Frost Blade while crawling backwards. As Joseph was crawling and blocking for his life, he noticed two things; Simon was holding his Frost Blade with a very poor grip, no doubt due to Joseph cutting his hands earlier. He also could feel that Simon was not swinging his Frost Blade very hard either. As Joseph kept crawling back, his left hand grabbed ahold of a rock. Joseph then blocked Simon's blade with his sword in his right hand, and with his left hand, threw the rock, hitting Simon right in the forehead. This caused Simon to stop completely, giving Joseph the perfect opportunity to strike. Joseph did not waste this as he got up quickly and jammed his sword through Simon's stomach again.
And of course, just like the last two times, Simon had used his Ice Clone to avoid death. Joseph knew an attack would be coming from behind so he turned around fast, swing his sword, expecting to hit Simon, but Simon wasn't there. Then Joseph heard the sound of ice breaking from above him. Joseph looked up and was then kicked hard in the face by Simon, who had appeared above him instead of behind him like he did the first two times. Joseph slid across the ground from the impact of the kick and slammed into a tree. Simon landed om the ground and watched as Joseph got back up and started running at him again.
Simon was starting to get weaker as this battle went on. Unbeknownst to Joseph, while the Ice Clone Technique was powerful, it takes a massive toll on the body. Simon could feel he was slower and his magic wasn't as strong as it was when the fight started. Simon had to make sure he didn't let Joseph get close to him since if he needed to use his Ice Clone again, it would take time to charge up again after being used so many times, therefore it would be ineffective. So Simon just fired his Ice Beam at the ground near Joseph's feet, trying to either freeze him or make him slip again. Joseph avoided the Ice Beam and kept running. Joseph then started to run to the side, trying to close in on Simon. Simon just kept on firing his Ice Beam until eventually, Simon found that he could no longer use his Ice Beam anymore.
Joseph saw that Simon had stopped attack, so he took this opportunity to charge full speed at Simon. Panicked, Simon began firing his Ice Balls at Joseph. But because of the effects of using Ice Clone too much, the Ice Balls were no bigger than a golf ball. Joseph just kept running, deflecting the Ice Balls as he got closer and closer to Simon. Simon was terrified as Joseph finally made it to him. Joseph then sliced off Simon's hands and then with one good slice, chopped Simon's head clean off, decapitating and killing Simon.
"Alright, Ice Clone, come on, I know your tricks, Simon." Joseph said as he waited for the body to turn to ice, but it didn't.
Joseph suddenly froze in shock as he watched Simon's body fall to the ground. Joseph then slowly looked over to where Simon's decapitated head was laying and gasped as he was met with Simon's last look, a look of pure fear. Joseph then realized... he had actually killed him.
"What? N-No, what have I done?" Joseph asked as he started into the eyes of Simon. "Oh god, Simon, I-I, I'm so sorry. DAMN IT! FUCK! NO!" Joseph yelled as he fell to his knees as he fell to his knees.
Joseph felt so terrible as he realized he had done. Now there was no way for them to save Simon. Now that Simon's Corrupted was dead, Simon was gone forever. Before Joseph could continue to yell at himself for what he had done, he overheard the sounds of Silky battling against Angelica. Joseph turned to look at their battle and was horrified as he saw Silky getting beaten up badly by Angelica's Ruby Fist. Joseph then turned back to Simon's head and stood up.
"I'm sorry Simon. I still have hope for you. If we're lucky, Cartaphilus will just revive you and then we will have a second chance to save you. For now, rest in peace. May God have mercy on you, Simon." Joseph said as he did the sign of the Cross and recited a quick prayer for Simon's sake.
Once Joseph was done, he looked back to Silky and Angelica's fight, only to see Silky fall next to Angelica. Joseph feared the worst as he watched Silky fall. As Joseph saw a group of skeletons approaching Silky and Angelica's bodies, he was fueled with rage.
"SILKY!" Joseph yelled as he ran full speed to Silky's aid.
And that was chapter 15. How did you all enjoy the fight between Joseph and Corrupted Simon? I hope it was enjoyable. As I said previously, this fight takes place at the same time as the previous 2 fights took place. All 3 end roughly at the same time too. Next chapter will be Chise and Ruth battling the Spell-Breaker's army. That fight will also take place at the same time as these 3 fights did. I hope you all enjoyed and I'll see you all next time! :)
