Chapter 8

Oh my god! What the hell just happened? Fallon's mind was racing with thoughts as she came to. Eventually, after several moments, she finally realized what was going on. She was in a flipped over SUV. She looked over and saw Paisley dangling from her seat, luckily strapped in by her seatbelt. She looked to the driver's seat and saw Beck was through the windshield. He hadn't put on his seatbelt. He wasn't moving.

"Paisley, wake up, sweetie. It's time to wake up, now." Fallon urged, as she reached over and lightly jostled Paisley.

Paisley didn't move or react to Fallon's touch. Fallon tried not to panic, but it was becoming increasingly difficult. Luckily for everyone, sirens could finally be heard. Help was on the way.

"Come one, baby, please wake up. I really need you to wake up. Let me know you're ok." Fallon tried again, but her efforts laid futile.

Within another minute or so, a paramedic and firefighter were rushing to the car and springing into action.

"Can you hear me, ma'am? My name's Julian. I'm a paramedic. I'm here to help." The paramedic said, as he laid down on the ground next to the upside down vehicle on Fallon's side.

"Yes, I can hear you." Fallon creaked out, trying to be loud enough for the paramedic to hear her.

"Ok, are you having any pain?"

"Um, no, but I'm 10 weeks pregnant with twins. I really need to go to the hospital."

"Ok, well it's good that you're not having any pain. We're going to get all of you out of there as soon as possible. There firefighters are going to have to use a big saw to get the door open. Is anyone else in the car conscious?"

"No, I tried to wake up my daughter, but she didn't respond. As for the driver, I think he might be dead."

"Is there any relation between you and the driver?"

"He's my ex and my daughter's father."

"Ok. I promise we're going to do everything we can to help you."

"Ok. Please help my daughter first. I can wait."

"We're gonna help all three of you. My partner, Kelsey, is gonna check on your daughter. What's your daughter's name?"

"Paisley. Her name's Paisley."

"Ok, Kelsey's gonna help Paisley and I'm gonna help you. Now, can you put these on your eyes? The firefighters are going to start using the saw." Julian handed Fallon a pair of safety glasses. She put them on and then took a few deep breaths as she heard the saw start up.

Five minutes later, she was being carefully taken out of the car and strapped onto a backboard. She had a neck brace strapped to her neck. She was lifted off of the ground and onto a stretcher and then taken into the ambulance.

"Is Paisley ok? And Beck?" As mad as Fallon was at Beck, she didn't want him to die.

"Paisley's being worked on by Kelsey, and the firefighters are working on the driver. His name is Beck?"

"Yeah, Beck Oliver."

"Ok. Right now, I know you probably want to wait for your daughter, but we really need to get you to the hospital."

"No, I'm not letting you take me anywhere until I know Paisley's ok."

"Ma'am, we really need to take you to the hospital. There's only so much we can do with the supplies we have in the ambulance."

"First of all, don't call me ma'am, it makes me feel like I'm a middle-aged woman. My name's Fallon. Second of all, I'm not going anywhere until I know Paisley's ok. Once she's out of the car and on a stretcher, then I'll go."

"Ok, but we're leaving immediately after she's out and on a stretcher."

They waited a few more minutes, and before Fallon knew it, Paisley was out and on a stretcher. Much to Fallon's relief, she was now conscious and moving around.

"You're gonna be ok, baby. Let the nice paramedic take care of you, ok?" Fallon said to Paisley, secretly hoping for a response.

Paisley gave a small groan that Fallon took as a response.

"Luckily for you, the ambulance is a two-stretcher ambulance, meaning we'll be able to take both you and Paisley at the same time." Julian said to Fallon.

"Ok, we can go now." Fallon said, as Paisley's stretcher was loaded into the ambulance next to her.

Kelsey continued working on Paisley, while Julian worked on Fallon. Beck was going to be transported in another ambulance.

"How old is she?" Kelsey asked Fallon, referring to Paisley.

"She just turned nine earlier this month." Fallon responded.

"Is she allergic to anything?"

"Um, I don't know."

"What do you mean you don't know?"

"She just came back into my life. She's lived with her dad for her whole life. We just reconnected earlier this month. I don't know if she's allergic to anything."

"Is there anyone we could call to find out?"

"Her dad's parents. They should know. I don't have their numbers, though."

"Ok, well, I'm going to give her some saline and Tylenol via IV. If she has an allergic reaction, we have epinephrine. Are you allergic to anything?"

"No, but I am pregnant."

"Ok. Are you in any pain?"

"Not particularly. I'm just kind of numb."

"That's the adrenaline. Once it wears off, you might start feeling some pain. Other than a few lacerations and contusions, you don't have any injuries. At the hospital, they'll perform an ultrasound to not only check for internal bleeding, but also make sure your babies are ok." Julian explained.

"Ok."

They got to the hospital within a few minutes, and were immediately seen by doctors. Fallon was taken into one room and Paisley was taken into another. As Fallon laid on the stretcher, she noticed Beck being rushed in. A doctor was on top of him, performing CPR. Was he going to die? Was he already dead?

"Is my daughter ok?" Fallon asked, to no one in particular because none of them were really paying attention.

"Is your daughter the girl you were brought in with?" A voice asked from behind her.

"Yes. Her name's Paisley Oliver. She's nine."

"The doctors are working on her. We don't know the extent of her injuries. Why don't we focus on you right now. The paramedics told us you're pregnant. Do you know how far along you are?" Another voice said, this time it was one of the doctors that was standing over her.

"10 weeks with twins. Are they ok?"

"We're going to perform an ultrasound soon."

"Can somebody call my husband? He's listed as my emergency contact."

"I'll call him, ma'am." The voice from behind her said.

The doctors continued to work on Fallon, and then she was taken up to get a CT scan. Usually pregnant women weren't supposed to get CTs, but it was necessary in this case. Fallon turned out to be extremely lucky. She didn't have any fractures, internal bleeds, or other internal injuries. After the CT, she was taken to L&D for an ultrasound.

"Hi, ma'am. My name's Dr. Castillo. You're 10 weeks with twins, right?"

"Yeah. Are you gonna do an ultrasound?"

"Yes, we are. Have you had any complications thus far in your pregnancy?"

"No. My doctor says me and the babies are both healthy."

"Ok, that's good."

The doctor squeezed the cold gel onto Fallon's stomach and then placed the wan in the gel. Almost instantly, a steady whooshing sound filled the room.

"Here's baby B. Healthy and a strong heartbeat." The doctor moved the wand around a little to find baby A. Another whooshing sound filled the air. It was almost identical to the first one. "And here's baby A. Both heartbeats are strong. Your babies should be fine."

Upon hearing that relieving news, she blew out a breath she didn't even know she was holding. Now she could completely focus on Paisley.

"Can I go back down to the ER to see my daughter?" Fallon asked.

"Not yet. You will be moved to the recovery ward. What I'm recommending is no walking for at least 24 hours."

"Ok, so get me a wheelchair. I want to see my daughter."

"Ma'am, I highly advise against that. What I can do, is I can go find out your daughter's condition. I strongly advise against you visiting her, though. While you seem to not have any injury, you're not out of the woods. Any strenuous activities, even walking, could cause the babies to go into distress. With as early as you are, if that happened, there wouldn't really be anything we could do."

"Fine, I just want to know how my daughter is. And did someone call my husband? It's going to take him a while to get here because he's in Miami right now."

"I will go check on the status of your daughter, and then I will check to see if your husband's been called. Is he listed as your emergency contact?"

"Yes. Liam Ridley."

"Ok, and what's your daughter's name?"

"Paisley Oliver. Her father's here in the hospital, too, but I'm assuming I can't have an update on him."

"Unless you are directly related to him, no, I can't give out any information on his status."

"Can you at least tell if his parents have been called?"

"I can ask while I'm down there. I'll be back soon. Sit tight."

Fallon muttered a 'thanks' as the doctor left the room. Soon enough, Fallon was all by herself. It gave her time to reflect on what had happened. She didn't expect the reunion to go the way it did. She enjoyed talking with Cat, that was nice, but overall, the night was shit. She'd been criticized by Vega. Who the hell was she to talk? She had no idea what Fallon had gone through. She had no idea what it was like to be barely 20 years old and have this new life that was supposed to depend on you for everything. She had no idea what it was like to live a double life. Tori Vega had no fucking clue and she had no room to judge Fallon. Then there had been Beck. She didn't know what the hell was on, but she knew it was something. The Beck she knew would never act the way he had. He would never threaten her, and intimidate her, and willingly scare her, and he sure as hell would not have slapped her. That had shocked her the most. He slapped her. His open palm connected with her face. What the hell was wrong with him? She'd done a lot of things while they were dating, but hitting him was not one of them, at least not with malice intentions. She'd never used her hands or feet to hit him with an intent to hurt him, and until today, neither had he. Fallon supposed maybe the Beck she remembered was gone.

Fallon was quickly pulled out of her thoughts when the doctor came back into the room.

"So, I got an update on your daughter from the ER doctor. She's stable, and awake. She has a broken leg, and a dislocated shoulder, and a broken nose, but overall, she's in good condition. She has a long recovery ahead of her, and she's not out of the woods yet, but she's stable. The doctor told me they'll be taking her up to the pediatric recovery wing soon. Maybe tomorrow, once you've slept, I will allow you to go see her, but for right now, I would advise you to stay in bed."

Fallon let out a sigh of relief as the doctor explained Paisley's condition. "That's really good to hear. Have her grandparents been called yet? I'd like for somebody to be there with her."

"They have been. They're on their way. And your husband was called, as well. According to the nurse who talked to him, he's hopping on the private jet and rushing straight here."

"Ok, good. Thank you so much, doctor."

"Of course. A transport team will come to take you to the recovery ward soon. If you need anything, don't hesitate to press the call button." And with that, Dr. Castillo was gone.

Fallon was again left to her thoughts. She thought about the car accident. This was the first car accident she'd ever been in. She'd been in a few close calls. Her most recent and memorable had been about a year into her thing with Culhane. She was sitting in his lap, stupidly, and basically dry humping him. Of course, like any normal person would, he got distracted. He swerved a few times, and nearly ran into a tree on the outskirts of the manor, but he eventually pulled over and they continued their thing. The first time had been when she was 10. She went along for one of Blake's joyrides. They hit a wet spot on the road. They swerved a few times, but Blake was able to get control of the car. The next few close calls Fallon had had were all her own fault. They had either happened when she first learned to drive, or while she was slightly tipsy. She'd never been in a full blown car accident, though, at least not until tonight.

Tonight had changed everything. Everyone in that car could've died. Beck might be dead, Fallon had no idea. Her daughter could've died. Fallon had no clue what she would've done with herself if Paisley had died. She'd just gotten Paisley back into her life, and she'd be damned if Beck's messed up ways took her again. Fallon could've gone from being a mother of three, to a mother of none tonight. Beck could've cost her everything. It was his fault. All his fault.
