Lmao, I'm happy to know I've touched so many hearts with this fic. Also, I definitely won't be abandoning this story. The only thing that throws me off is so much overtime at work thanks to COVID so I'm always tired, but I don't let it get the best of me.
I do have plans for a nice sequel. I just need to see how this pans out on its own. Anyway, I had fun writing this chapter. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I had proofreading!
The night went by peacefully for once. Subaru was living a perfect life of his favorite girls in a perfect future where Emilia was queen while he was her muscular and honorable knight. Also a king at the same time if that makes sense. It's his dream.
With a kiss on his cheek, she waved to her beloved farewell for the day. This was in a world where racial equality exists. To be her most loyal and trusted companion was a dream and when the day ends, he returns to his huge mansion next door with his loving wife, Rem. His two children greet him as he unholsters his mighty sword and carries them on his shoulders. Life was perfect until he heard a sound.
He opens his eyes wide and on his side. His arms were outstretched with his hands hanging off from the bed. He sits up and stretches his arms wide while yawning.
He looked to the other side of the bed and noticed the blankets were uncovered to its side. Subaru was the type to move around a lot in his bed, but this form from the wrinkles of the sheets looks to be of another person.
After some speculating, he tugs and sniffs his shirt. It smelt sweet of lavender. Probably from the use of soap. He didn't use the bath last night. Finally, he comes to a conclusion.
Subaru: So you really can't sleep by yourself now...isn't that right, Rem?
There was no other way to explain it. Rem came into his room last night and slept in his bed...again and left early in the morning. He sighs, then he gets up out of bed.
He was putting on his sneakers when he heard a noise outside and decided to look out the window. Roswaal, Ram, Rem, and Emilia were outside with a dragon carriage. Ram gives Rem a big hug then hops onto the driver's seat. Roswaal was talking to Rem a little more then he walked into the carriage and Rem closed the door for him. With one whip of the reins, the carriage starts moving.
They waved goodbye at the two while they gradually made their way outside the gates.
Subaru: Is it that time? It is pretty early, but I guess it can't be helped. It must be that urgent.
The rays of the sun hung over the sky so bright and the trees were at full color. It was a warm and calm day. Nothing out of the ordinary.
He puts on his track jacket and walks out of his room. He made his way outside to greet the two as the carriage was already outside the gates and out of their vision. He yawns as he makes his way downstairs.
Subaru: Good morning, Emilia-tan! Rem!
They turn their heads to face Subaru. Both smiled and walked towards him.
Rem: Good morning, Subaru-kun. How did you sleep?
Subaru: Ah, finally I get a good rest without waking up sweaty. It's nice for a change. Anyways, how did you sleep, Emilia-tan?
Emilia: I slept well. Nothing interesting, I suppose
Subaru: Oh, I see. That's great news! How about you, Rem?
Rem: Rem slept very lovely...
She cups her flushed cheeks in thought of the night before. She was too embarrassed to talk about it in front of Emilia so she left it as that. Subaru could kinda understand what she meant so his cheeks turned pink from embarrassment. He scratches his cheek.
Subaru: That's...good...I guess. Anyways, what was Roswaal talking to you about?
Rem: My apologies, but Roswaal-sama has instructed me not to tell you, Subaru-kun.
Subaru: Not even me? You know you can tell me anything.
She puts a finger on her lip in thought. Should she listen to her promised husband or her master? It was pretty obvious.
Rem: Yes! Roswaal-sama has instructed Rem to keep a close eye on Subaru-kun. He is afraid you might damage your gate even further.
Subaru opens his eyes wide. To Subaru, Roswaal was a mysterious clown that always put his business first of all things so hearing that that clown was worried about him was unusual. Actually, now that he thinks of it, what kind of business is Roswaal running?
Subaru: That's a bit odd, but it makes perfect sense. I should think of Ros-chi differently...
He still thought about it some more, but then he decided it was pointless to keep thinking about it. He turns and walks towards Emilia.
Subaru: ...So do you have any plans today, Emilia-tan? After me and Rem are done with household chores, I can tell you some stories if you'd like?
Emilia: That sounds nice. I'll be very busy today with my studies and Puck will be with Beatrice most of the day so... umm, aren't you a bit too close?
He realizes he was really close to Emilia. Almost close to each other's breath. He immediately jumps back and scratches the back of his head in embarrassment.
Subaru: M-My mistake! I didn't realize my Emilia-tan was so cute it was mesmerizing!
Emilia: There you go claiming me again. It's not right to take someone as your slave, you know. I really disagree with that sort of thing.
She really doesn't get it. Since Subaru and Emilia became like best friends, Subaru has been a little bit closer to her now and she didn't mind. He was somewhat special to her, but of course she had boundaries. It wasn't that long for her to develop that kind of trust. He waved his hands frantically to avoid this misconception.
Subaru: It's not like I agree with that stuff! I'm very much against slavery as much as you do! I just feel so close to you now that we can call each other our own!
Emilia: Hmm, I'm not too sure, but if you put it like that...
She thought about it some more. It really doesn't sound so bad if you put it that way, but in a way, it sounds like he's tricking her.
Subaru: Trust me. It's like how I dub you that pet name, but now it is in return to me!
Emilia: It does sound pretty fun, but I'm still not sure. Are you really ok with this?
Subaru: Yes! It would be a complete honor for Emilia-tan to call me her own! What do you say, Emilia-tan?
He bows and extends his hand out to her in a way that says I'm offering you all of me. To become one with Emilia was a dream to Subaru. With a short inhale and a hand to her chest, she makes her decision.
Emilia: Alright! From now on, I will claim Subaru as my trusted helper!
He slumps down in disappointment. She really didn't get it, but it was kinda cute to see her this clueless. Even though she claimed him as a helper, he decides it was best since he could be closer to Emilia. They were just playing around.
He stands upright with his fists to his sides and his chest sticking out.
Subaru: It's not exactly what I meant, but that's totally fine! I'm now Emilia-tan's most trustworthy helper so no one will ever get in between us! Except for Rem of course…
Rem makes little claps to praise Subaru for his little achievement. Emilia smiles. She was glad he was so energetic this morning.
Emilia: Well, since that's over with, we should probably go inside. I need to start my studies.
Subaru: This early? It's best to eat a balanced meal before your day starts! We wouldn't want a lazy Emilia-tan this morning! As your most trusted helper, let me seat you to your chair!
He gestured her to the door to let her know he'll actually be a gentleman and pull open her chair. She tilts her head in confusion.
Emilia: Umm...Subaru? It's actually noon. You overslept.
Subaru's eyes open wide as he realizes that it was actually past noon. Everyone else in the household had already eaten except for him which explains why Ram and Roswaal left at around this time, but there was another reason why he was upset.
Subaru: Ah! I completely forgot I had a date with Emilia-tan this morning! I'm such a complete idiot! I'll gladly walk over a floor of fire or jump off a cliff for an apology! Please forgive me, Emilia-tan!...
He pulls on his hair and makes a bow in apology. For him to forget something as important as this was unforgivable. Especially when she already postponed it for him before. Also since she just made him a helper. She looks at him worriedly and gestures with her hands to calm him down.
Emilia: Subaru, calm down. We can go tomorrow if you'd like? I know you and Rem have a lot of work today so it's completely-
Subaru: Wait! If we go right now, we can still make it back before lunch!
Emilia: It's ok! You don't need to overwork yourself again-
Subaru: -We can still do radio calisthenics with the village and pick all of the pretty flowers in the field!
Emilia: Subaru, please listen-
Subaru: Just the thought of me and Emilia-tan in a field together!-
He wasn't listening. She shuts him up by putting two hands on his cheek which made him pucker his face and lips. It wasn't often she laid a hand on him. She probably thought it was okay since they're good friends now and he didn't mind. He was just too shocked of the sudden reaction. She stared down his yellow eyes while furrowing her brows. He thought it was cute when she acts assertive. Pretty much anything she does looks cute to him.
Emilia: Subaru, it's fine. We can go tomorrow if you'd like, but for now, you should help Rem with your duties. Is that understood?
He nods while her hands are on his cheek. She nods back and lets go of him.
Emilia: Good. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to study.
She walks past him and he turns around while watching her back as she leaves. He puts a hand on his cheek, feeling the spot she touched him. Rem walks next to him.
Rem: Is something the matter?
Subaru: No...it's just…
With another thought in mind, she looks at him as he watches Emilia walk inside. Their talk just now worried her a little bit.
Rem: You still love her? Even though you said you love Rem?
He turns his head with his hand still on his cheek to face her. It still felt different to him to have these two girls in his heart even though it was just yesterday he figured out his feelings, but it was great. He was now closer to most of the Roswaal residents thanks to them.
Subaru: Are you perhaps jealous of Emilia-tan?
She looks down with her hands at her front in thought. There wasn't much jealousy. She was just feeling a bit of a burden to Subaru's heart. Even though she wanted to be with him, he still was in love with Emilia. I mean, what will happen if Emilia liked him back? Will he forget about her? He said he loved Rem, but she didn't know if he would change his mind. All of these thoughts scared her.
He turns the rest of his body to her face to face and puts his hands on her waist and lifts her up in the air. She immediately blushes and wiggles her legs in shock.
Rem: Eh?! S-Subaru-kun! What are you?!-
She stops mid sentence when he starts to twirl her around with a wide smile on his face. He stops and hugs her tightly with his cheek pressed against hers.
Subaru: No matter what, I love you and Emilia-tan equally so that means you are my Rem. Is that clear?
He puts her down with his hands still on her waist. Her once frightened face completely turns cheerfully and hugs him back.
Rem: Yes! Rem is Subaru-kun's Rem!
She nodded while her cheek was against his chest. He caresses her hair while she hugs him. Those thoughts she had before were completely gone. To be there for each other no matter what happens. It was their promise from that morning.
She opened her eyes when she heard a growl. She pulls away from him and realizes it was Subaru's stomach grumbling. He was hungry. She looks up to him and smiles.
Rem: Please allow Rem some time to prepare your meal...honey.
Subaru: Yeah...I'd like that.
They both giggled a little bit and walked inside while holding hands.
Time went great for them. Rem cooked some omelets for him with a side of cut potatoes. She fed him while he ate. It felt weird at first because she made it seem like she was feeding a child, but he grew into it. He was happy. He told some jokes that made her giggle and they talked about each other, but then she realized it was late and they had to get back to work.
There wasn't much to be done since Subaru did a lot of it the day before. He pretty much just swept aside some stuff that didn't look like it needed cleaning, but Rem seemed to be super focused to get it done. It probably was just because Ram was gone for the day so she thought she could spend more time with Subaru.
Anyway, the workload was nearly done thanks to the two and now it was already afternoon. Subaru was waiting in the parlor room sitting on a couch with a teapot and teacups sitting on the coffee table. He reaches for the saucer with the teacup filled with tea. He takes a small sip of the tea and sticks his tongue out from its flavor.
Subaru: Still tastes like leaves…
Tea was mostly his beverage since he came to this world. He still wasn't used to its flavor because it literally tasted like leaves. Expensive ones too.
Roswaal had his own set of premium tea leaves and some for guests or other residents. Rem decided to take some for Subaru because it was a 'special occasion in her perspective. It wasn't the first time she's done this. As long as it's for Subaru.
He puts the teacup and saucer back on the coffee table and taps his knees as he waits. It hasn't been too long since she left.
Subaru: ...I'm not too sure what Rem had in mind this time, but judging from her smile, it might not be so bad...
Rem managed to make some time for herself and Subaru so she decided to treat him. She really enjoys doing things for him. Also doing things with him in general.
He heard a knock on the door and positioned himself properly with his back straight and his hands on his knees.
?: Subaru-kun! May I come in?
Subaru: Y-Yes!
She peaks in her sapphire eye to him and pulls in a cart. It had a silver serving tray with a matching lid over it. She parks it next to the coffee table and removes the lid. What was under it seemed to be a sort of paste or custard looking dessert in a small bowl with what seems to be a stack of wafer crackers on the side. A butter knife was laid on the side with some embroidered napkins and mixed fruit in a bowl.
Subaru: Uh, Rem? What is this?
Rem: Rem is simply treating Subaru-kun for his hard work.
Subaru: ...Oh...I see…
He raises an eyebrow as he watches her prepare the tray while she hums a short tune then she seats herself right next to him and reaches for a cracker and a butter knife. With the knife, she scoops some of the creamy paste and spreads it onto the treat.
It did look pretty good to him. The paste kinda reminds him of something. It was thick and gave off a sweet scent. It seemed pretty mouth watering from the looks of it, but the cream color of it, it sorta looks like…
Rem: Now, open wide so Rem can properly feed you.
She sways the treat in front of his face as she offers it to him. He looks at it still unsure of this unusual aroma it gave off. He darts his eyes at her and back at the treat. After a bit of thinking, he decides to trust her on it and opens his mouth wide to accept it. She dangles half of it in his mouth then he bit down at it.
Instantly, he was transported to an unknown world, floating in a river of mayonnaise blissfully. The ground and the mountains nearby gave off a sweet and ginger scent of the wafer crackers that completely overloaded his nostrils. The river he tasted was sweet and tangy. To think of these two flavors combined into one daring taste as the milky texture completely envelops his entire mouth. It was...otherworldly.
Next thing he knew, he was back in the room with the blue haired maid staring at him worriedly. She stared into his eyes face to face, trying to get his attention by brushing the side of his cheek.
Rem: Subaru-kun?
He stares at her blankly from complete shock of this new taste. Slowly, he snaps back into reality.
Subaru: "Rem…", he says softly.
Rem: Yes? Are you feeling well?
Subaru: Rem…this is...AMAZING!
Immediately, he hugs her tight, picks her up, and stands then he twirls her around and around in complete joy.
Rem: E~h E~h!? Su~ba~ru~ku~u~?!
He twirls her all over the room in complete happiness of this delicious treat. Her cries reverberates across the room as he yells her name over and over. He wraps her in tight like if she was a doll. Her feet are still wiggling in the air, completely frightened by this sudden reaction.
He became dizzy from spinning so much that he lost track of direction and caught his foot on the leg of the coffee table.
Subaru: …!
Rem: …!
He trips backwards and falls on the floor with Rem laying on his stomach. Steadily, their eyes adjusted after that dizzy feeling started to fade away. She pulled away from him and the two looked at each other while he still had a grip around her waist.
Rem: S-S-Subaru-kun! Is something the matter?!
He gazes at her worried face and laughs. He still couldn't get out the happy sensation he was feeling. It was still unbelievable that she could make something so nostalgic from his own world, but more upgraded.
Subaru: "Hehe, nothing is wrong. I was so mesmerized by this new sensation, I forgot where I was! What was this?", he says happily.
Rem: If it is Subaru-kun's request, Rem used the mayonnaise recipe and made some minor adjustments to make a delightful desert.
Subaru: -Wait, you managed to make mayonnaise into a dessert?!
Rem: Yes! Was it to Subaru-kun's liking?
He pulls her in tighter with a big smile. Their cheeks were rubbing against each other and she smiled with upturned eyes from this loving affection.
Subaru: It was delicious! It felt like I was a kid slurping mayonnaise for the first time! It's almost like eating a mayonnaise flavored cake!
Rem: "Subaru-ku~n, you can be embarrassing sometimes", she says playfully.
She pulls away from his cheek and stares down at him. His smile was bigger than ever from this feeling.
Subaru: If it's embarrassing to show appreciation to a girl I like, then it's ok! Isn't that right?
She immediately embraces him with her cheek on his chest.
Rem: Yes! If that's the case, then Rem doesn't mind either!
Subaru: Hehe, I can't wait until Emilia-tan tries it! I can't imagine how she'll react.
Emilia, along with the other residents of the mansion, really enjoyed mayonnaise. Not so much to Rem, but if Subaru likes it, then she doesn't mind.
He loosens his grip around her and she pulls away from his chest. They stare down each other's eyes in loving affection for one another.
Rem: I'm very certain Emilia-sama will be delighted as well…
Subaru: Yeah...she'll love it...
He gazes upon her facial features from her pink soft lips to her sky blue eyes as he felt that warm flutter in his heart. She truly looked beautiful.
Subaru: Hey Rem?
Rem: Yes?
Subaru: Have I ever told you how cute you look?
She blushes and rests her chin on his upper chest. Close to his face. He has told her rarely, but he mostly talked about Emilia's cuteness. It wasn't often he admired her face.
She kicks her legs in the air from side to side as she completely rests her body on top of his.
Rem: Not so often...Has Rem complemented Subaru-kun's good looks?
Subaru immediately blushes. Because of his ominous yellow eyes, he didn't look that attractive to other girls, but Rem saw otherwise. She saw something in him that no other girl saw.
Subaru: Umm, N-No...I-I don't think you ever called me cute before so this is news to me!...Good news as a matter of fact!
Rem: Then allow Rem to elaborate...
She supports herself on her elbows on his chest and extends her hands to brush the sides of his cheek and hair. She admired his light amber eyes and his spiked up hair.
Rem: ...Your eyes look so menacing…, yet you are so kind and generous of others...
She thumbs his cheeks. To think that a boy's skin feels so hard, but as smooth as it would look. It was intriguing to her.
Rem: Your cheeks are so smooth, yet...so firm and supple…It still amazes me how soft it feels...
She brushes the sides of his hair. They feel dry, but oily. Must be from the lack of shampoo and conditioner, but it still stands without any gel or moisturizer.
Rem: Your hair is so dry, yet fuzzy. With proper care, it will last as you age…
Her entire body was pressed up against his. Even with his tracksuit on and her maid outfit, she could feel his muscles underneath. It aroused her when they were in this position. She blushes in thought of seeing him nude again.
Rem:...Even though you are physically weaker than Rem, Rem can still tell you are strong by your muscle tone. It makes me feel safe and protected.
Their faces were close enough to feel each other's breath under their noses. It tickled, but it was fine. It only enhances the moment.
Rem: I can very well admit that Subaru-kun is cute indeed...
His breathing became heavier. He lifted her every time he inhaled. It was probably because she has been on top of him for awhile now, but it didn't bother him. He liked it.
He never really heard this much appraisal towards him before. This girl truly admired him so much, it's like falling in love all over again.
Subaru: "Do I really...mean that much to you?", he says very softly.
Rem: Yes...It is what I love about you, Subaru-kun. There is still much more that Rem would like to mention, but Rem believes it is enough for now…
He starts to rub the lower part of her back gently. His hand against her curves excites him in thought of her nude body. He really wanted to ask her if she was okay to do it again, but he really didn't want to upset Beatrice. Also, he was nervous about asking...
She cups his cheeks softly and inches closer to his face. Both of their cheeks were red and they closed their eyes from anticipation of what's to come.
Subaru: "Rem…", he whispers.
They felt their breath on their lips so close to one another. The closer she came to him, the hotter her breath felt to him.
*knock *knock
*knock
She stops and they both open their eyes wide from the sound of knocking on the door. She immediately sits up on top of him and they both look at the door.
?: Subaru? Rem? Is everything alright?
They realized it was only Emilia So they both looked back at each other and smiled. They were a bit disappointed that they were interrupted, but it was fine.
Rem: Please excuse Rem…
She gets off of him and pads her skirt from any wrinkles. Subaru gets up from the floor and seats himself from the couch. She faces the door and opens it to reveal Emilia standing on the other side almost worried of something.
Rem bows to welcome her.
Rem: Good afternoon, Emilia-sama.
Emilia: Afternoon, Rem...Subaru. I finished studying for the day and Puck is still with Beatrice so I came by to look for you two. Am I interrupting something?
Subaru: No, we were just having some afternoon tea! Now, please come in and sit next to me Emilia-tan!
Emilia: No thanks. I'll sit over here…
She walks in and sits on the couch on the other side of the coffee table with her hands on her lap and her knees together. Subaru noticed her worried look on her face.
Subaru: What's wrong, Emilia-tan?
Emilia: It's nothing. I heard yelling so I thought it might be you two arguing again, but I see it must be some sort of misunderstanding...
She knew she shouldn't intrude into someone else's relationship problems, but if it's for her friend, she felt she had to do something. She still was nervous about it.
Subaru looked at her confused, but then he realized what she probably meant.
Subaru: Ah, my mistake. You see, Rem made this delicious paste and It was so delectable, I almost went into a mayonnaise coma!
Emilia: I'm so relieved. Subaru, I was so worried about Rem...you should know better than to make her cry.
Subaru: Ok! I get it! No need to blame me for it!
Rem seats herself right next to Subaru as usual. Emilia looks at her a little concerned about how close she was to Subaru, but she decides it was fine.
Rem was happy to know that Emilia cared about her, but a little annoyed that she knows of their little dispute. She ignored those feelings for now.
Emilia:...So, Rem made something yummy?
Rem: Yes! Rem remade the mayonnaise recipe into a dessert for both Subaru-kun and Emilia-sama to sample.
In reality, Rem actually made it for Subaru, but she knew Emilia liked mayonnaise too so she knew Subaru would definitely introduce it to Emilia. It couldn't be helped.
Emilia inspects the assorted tray in front of her, clueless. Rem bends over and grabs a cracker and a butter knife.
Rem: Please allow Rem to prepare yours, Emilia-sama
Emilia just watches as Rem spreads the custard over the cracker evenly and she hands it to her. Emilia still looks at it clueless of its looks. She looks at both Rem and Subaru then decides to try it. She took a small bite.
Instantly, she nearly jumped up from its unusual taste and her face completely brightened.
Emilia: mmm, Rem! This is so yummy! It's crunchy, but feels so creamy!
She took in another bite of the delicious treat and she nearly jumped out of her seat again. Both Rem and Subaru smiled from seeing her reaction. Mostly Subaru. He was having the time of his life watching her eat the treat. She looked like a child eating ice cream for the first time.
Emilia: mmm, So good!
Rem: Would Subaru-kun like another?
Subaru looked at Rem and nodded with a smile. She prepares another one and dangles it into his face. He gladly accepts the whole thing in his mouth and squirms in his seat from this intense sensation. He hugs her tight and pulls her in closer.
Subaru: So tasty! I feel like I can hug you all day just to show you my appreciation!
Rem: ...and Rem very much appreciates Subaru-Kun's appreciation!
She giggled as he held onto her. Emilia just stares at the couple with a bit of red on her cheeks. She was a little confused by the fact that Rem just fed him and he embraced her, but she smiled. She was happy their relationship was doing well.
Subaru stops and lets go of Rem when he notices Emilia sitting there, staring at them with her flushed cheeks. It was something a bit obscene so he scratches the back of his head in embarrassment.
Subaru: Oh, sorry you had to see that. It must be difficult to process for you, is it?
Emilia: I still think hand feeding you is weird, but I'm glad you two are getting along so well...
They look at each other from across the table. It was nice to have days like these. To have tea with the people you love and without a care of anything else. He was still a bit annoyed by his forgetfulness of his date with Emilia, but this somewhat makes up for it. He had a free day to spend time with her and Rem so he forgave himself. He just needed to try harder tomorrow.
Subaru: Yeah...I'm happy too...
Alright! Chapter finished! I'm not sure if I'm going off track with characters or it might be character development, but I feel like it's different from earlier chapters. Anyways, I originally wanted to make a double chapter weekend, since chapter 9 is pretty easy, but some things happened so I'll upload on Thursday for thanksgiving. I know most of you will really like it!
