Seth
Atem was approached by Imhotep, the High Priest of Ra "This day, is blessed by Ra, Atem, son of Akhnamkanon, has been chosen to lead us, to glory, to peaceful times, to the Gods.". Seth, Shimon, Karim, Shada and Isis took their places on the left and right sides of the throne.
And the Coronation began. Imhotep held a speech, of how blessed this day was and which glory the people of Egypt will achieve with Atem as a Pharaoh. He talked about times in peace and prosperity, times where nobody will ever suffer of hunger or unemployment. He spoke of Akhnamkanon, as a kind and just Pharaoh… he spoke of Seth in a similar manner, Atem had actually turned to him, while the speech was going on. The shorter man smiled at him, his crimson eyes danced in the torch light.
Imhotep finally finished his speech, as the double crown was brought to him "Atem, You are blessed by Ra, to be our Pharaoh…" and right at this moment the sun has risen. Its golden rays bounced off of Atem's oiled skin, making it glow godly. The people cheered and as the crown was put on his head, the cheers turned into load roars. Flowers and crops and ribbons were thrown in the sky, faces turned red with happiness and they sang once more.
Atem stood there, his head lifted up, his noble features stern, his lips slightly curled up, his eyes steady and observing his people. Seth actually held his breath, he was just looking so royal, so proud, in his festive clothes with the crown on his head, it felt like nobody can ever defy him… as if nobody would ever dare to stand against him, strong, unbeatable, untouchable.
The Pharaoh smiled at his people and spread his arms, as if he wanted to embrace them and they listened "my people, I promise, I will do everything in my power to grand you your wishes." his voice thundered deep and steady. Every face was turned to him with widened eyes with opened mouths. And as he finished his sentence, the singing started again.
"My Pharaoh… " Atem turned to face him "it is time to return to the palace and the celebrations will begin.". The shorter man observed him, his lips still curled up in a smile "of course, Seth.".
They drove back to the palace by the same vehicles, still guarded by Qareh's soldiers. The people followed them, the whole time singing and cheering, calling Atem, begging him to bless them, to touch them. But the Pharaoh just smiled to them – how quickly did this man accommodate to the situation. Just hours ago, he looked overwhelmed with the whole situation and now, he was playing the King, as if he had never left. Seth pressed his lips together. He couldn't invert his eyes off of Atem, his appearance was … breathtaking.
Once back at the palace, the throne hall was festively decorated, a huge table with space for maybe at least fifty people was in the middle of it, full of food prepared in every way imaginable, decorated beautifully. Atem was the one to lead and as he climbed to his throne, which was now back at its original space, his voice thundered through the hall "let us celebrate!". The Pharaoh sat on the golden chair and observed his people with a smile.
Atem
As the crown was put on his head, he had realized that this was all real. He was back in his old life and he was the Pharaoh now, so there was no point in being shocked, or scared, he had to deal with the situation as it was. So, he had straitened his body and accepted his fate, no matter, of how surreal it felt at the moment. He was going to rule this country and he wanted to be a good king, he was determined to succeed in it.
He sat on his throne and looked around – the hall was full with soldiers, consultants, ministers, dancers, musicians, artists, people… everybody enjoyed the food and the entertainment. "My Pharaoh …" he turned his head to face Shimon "how long will be this celebration?" the old man cleared his throat "5 days, my Pharaoh." Atem's eyebrows rose up "I guess, we have time to celebrate, before life obtains us again.". Shimon laughed "yes, my Pharaoh. Now that You are officially our Ruler, You will be officially congratulated.". He inhaled deeply "I see.", "we will start with Karim.".
The Minister of Justice came to him with bowed head and gave his congratulations, wished him all the best and left a small chest with a gift inside. Shada, Isis and all his other consultants did the same. And finally, Seth came.
Atem shifted on his seat. He was accompanied by his wife, who was holding a child by the hand. On the other side of the former Priest was an elder man. Seth himself was carrying a small girl in his arms. Those were his children – Amenhotep and Amenirdis. The girl had exactly her father's features, her face was a stone mask, her deep-blue eyes observed him calculatedly. Amenhotep on the other hand was like his mother – he was older than his sister, but he didn't seem to care, where he was or who was in front of him. He looked around and pulled constantly at his mother's hand.
The elder man on Seth's side approached him and bowed his head "my Pharaoh, I finally have the pleasure to meet You in person. I am Djedephor, the Minister and Grand Advisor for Lower Egypt, Seth's father in law, Takhat's father and what a glorious day it is. I congratulate You and wish You all of Ra's blessing, while You rule. Please accept our humble gift for You.". Two servants brought a huge chest and placed it in front of his feet. Atem stood up "thank You all, I am indeed blessed to have You all as my Advisors and Ministers." Djedephor looked at him and smiled "thank You, my Pharaoh.". Atem nodded and his eyes inverted towards Seth. He was standing next to his wife, his child in his arms, his face dark, his eyes cold as ice. His jaw was twitching, while he was observing his father in law. Once the elder man left, he approached Atem "my Pharaoh, I am most honored to have You back as our Pharaoh." and bowed his head. The shorter man smiled "thank you, Seth. Are these your children." He reached to touch the girl, but she pulled back and her eyes pierced him – Seth's daughter indeed. The taller man lifted his head up "I am very sorry, she is a bit shy. This is Amenirdis and that is Amenhotep.". Takhat approached them and bowed her head too "my Pharaoh… " she turned to her son "be polite, Amenhotep, and bow before your Pharaoh.". The boy turned his attention to him and blinked several times to finally bow clumsily with his curious eyes still placed on him.
Atem laughed "please, there is no need for that.". Takhat cleared her throat "if You would excuse us, the children have to eat, they are a bit exhausted from the whole ceremony.". He nodded "please, help yourselves." She nodded and walked away with her son. "Thank You, my Pharaoh" Seth looked at him one more time with his cold eyes, his daughter did the same and they left him.
So that was his family. Djedephor, the Minister and Grand Advisor for Lower Egypt… and his daughter Takhat. She had her looks probably from her mother. Seth's children were adorable and very pretty. It seemed that Amenirdis was just as her father, cold and preserved, always calculating her surroundings with these blue eyes. She was just two years old and he could already tell, that she would achieve great success in her life. He knew, that she would earn respect and be in a high position, once as a grown up. And Amenhotep, well… he was as it seemed, like every normal child – playful and curious. He leaned on his throne, just the image of Seth holding his child in his arms was so unreal to him. He had grown up with him, he knew him as a teenager and he knew him as his descendant and he would have never imagined this … this proud and und stubborn man to ever have children. For this he had to sleep with … his face flashed red and he covered his mouth with the back of his hand – what was he thinking of just now, in the most crowded hall he had ever seen.
"My Pharaoh…" Shimon's voice brought him back to the present and he was so glad of it. He inhaled deeply and turned to look at his Advisor "You should eat and drink something.". He nodded he was actually very hungry, how didn't he feel it till now? It was late in the afternoon already and he hadn't put any food in his mouth till now. It was probably the whole excitement that kept him from getting hungry.
He stood up and climbed the stairs to the huge table. He observed it, it was so much on it, so many different dishes and delicacies – he didn't know where to start. Before he could decide, he wanted to drink something. A man approached him with a huge smile on his face. He was dressed completely in gold woven linen and cotton with many, many jewelry on his fingers, arms, legs, chest, ears. He bowed his head, with grin still on his face "my Pharaoh, such an honor to meet You.". Atem nodded "I am sorry, I don't …" the man interrupted him "I am Nebet, the Royal Treasurer.". He smiled politely "I am pleased to meet you, Nebet.". The Royal Treasurer grinned at him, he was quite handsome - he had a long, dark brown hair, beautifully pulled together, his eyes dark green, shaped as almonds, his skin caramel like. His body quite well-shaped, he was taller than him of course and his smile charming. "Would You like to have a drink with me?" Atem arched an eyebrow up "of course, can you recommend something?". The taller man smiled again "yes, only the best for You, my Pharaoh.", he spread a hand "just follow me and we can find a comfortable place to enjoy it.".
Atem followed the Royal Treasurer to one corner of the hall, where cushioned benches where placed with small tables in front of them. Nebet invited him to sit on one of them "I will bring the drinks, just a minute my Pharaoh.". Atem relaxed on the bench and looked around, he had noticed, that he was followed by four soldiers and his Servant. "Bunep…" the boy quickly kneeled before him "my Pharaoh, what is Your wish?", "who are the soldiers following me?". Bunep looked up "these are Your Royal Guards, my Pharaoh, they will follow You everywhere and will die for You, when necessary.". he furrowed his eyebrows "and what are their …". At this point Nebet came back with three servants following him. The grin on his face widened "I thought, You are hungry too, my Pharaoh, so I brought food with the wine.". Atem was actually glad, he was starving now "thank you, we will talk another time, Bunep." The Servant nodded and stepped aside.
The food was placed on the small tables before them and Nebet sat himself next to him "wine from Kush, only the best grapes were picked up here and this Rubin-red wine was made.". Atem took the offered cup and tasted the praised wine – it was delicious. And so, they enjoyed the food and the wine, they talked about Egypt, the people. Nebet talked of some political issues, that concerned him, but since Atem couldn't read all the papers, he was not familiar with all of them. He actually enjoyed the company of the Royal Treasurer.
Nebet entertained him the night through, they ate and drank and drank, till the point of Atem feeling dizzy in the head. Everything was lightened by candles now and the light from them were bouncing off of jewelry and dishes. Everybody was having a good time, the music was playing and people laughed and danced.
At some point Nebet stopped talking and Atem turned to look at him, it was just too unusual, he had talked through till now. The royal Treasurer's face was stern and turned even dark, his eyes narrowed and fixated on somebody, who was it? He followed his gaze to that person – Seth. The former Priest was standing tall and proud in front of them "my Pharaoh, … I am sorry, but my family and I will return to our chambers to rest for tonight.". Atem blinked several times to focus his eyes on the taller man, but before he could answer, Nebet took his word "already going, Seth, how unusual.". Seth's face got darker, as his jaw twitched "Nebet, I see, you have met the Pharaoh, finally.". The Royal Treasurer's wide smile appeared on his face once more "yes, I great pleasure.". The former Priest pressed his lips together "yes, but don't try to make his decisions for him".
Now Nebet stood up, his hands were curled up in fists, he was several centimeters shorter than Seth "watch it, Seth, you are not the Pharaoh anymore, you can't order around anymore" his words were spat at the taller man's face. The former Priest frowned "and yet, I want to keep our Pharaoh from bad influences.". Nebet inhaled sharply and he leaned towards the Brunette, he whispered something in his ear and pulled back with a smile on his face. Atem was drunk and couldn't really tell, what was going on. He observed the former Priest, his body had stiffened, his face got pale and his lips were pressed into a small line, his eyes widened and staring into nothingness. Nebet sat himself next to him "have a good night, Seth, I am sure, you are going to sleep just fine today.". The taller man shifted his eyes on Atem and his usual face mask covered up quickly whatever had shocked him. "Good night, my Pharaoh." He bowed his head and turned on his heel leaving him with the Royal Treasurer.
Atem observed the man next to him from the corner of his eyes, what was going on here? Did they hate each other, or did something severe happened between them? Maybe they had a fight, while Seth was a Pharaoh? Fighting over budget was something very normal in politics, but this seemed to be personal. Atem rested his head on his hand, he was so drunk, he had to probably go to bed. "Nebet, I will be going to rest now, I am quite tired myself." The handsome man turned to him "such a pity, but I am sure, once You are rested, my Pharaoh, we can continue tomorrow.". Atem smiled at him and stood up, his head spun, so drunk indeed. Bunep quickly took his side "my Pharaoh, I will escort You, to Your chambers." He was glad, the boy was there.
