Dine-In

Shinji was tired, but it was worth the effort. While today was a school day, Shinji had been extensively planning for the day and he would see what come out of his preparation.
Today was Misato's Birthday and he wanted to show his appreciation to her for everything she'd done for him. This included pooling in a lot of his savings, and strategically opening his schedule. It also helped that Asuka would be spending the night with Hikari which meant she would not be interfering.
With the majority of Shinji's pre-requisites finished, the only thing that eluded him was asking her out. He had thought hard about how to bring the topic up and simply could not decide on anyway to do so, although thankfully he wouldn't have to do it.
"Shin-Chan! Would you come out here for a sec?" She called out to him. Shinji then exited his room, finding her in the dining room.
"You know how much food we have left?" She asked, simultaneously popping open a can of Beer.
"Uhm, not much if I remember...I'll have to run by the stores tomorrow," He said, going through the mental checklist of their remaining food supplies.
"Huh, so do you have anything, in particular, you want for takeout?" She asked and Shinji's mind instantly clicked, Now would be a perfect time!
"I actually tho-thought it would be nice t-to take you out to dinner?" His voice barely over a whisper. Misato on the other hand, had a thoughtful look on her face as she considered the proposal given to her. After a few tense moments, she answered, "Sure, only on ONE condition though" She exclaimed.
"Sure?" He said, confused.
"We split the bill" She declared and this had Shinji contemplating since the whole point of this was treating her. Eventually, after some back and forth, they settled on 65-35 with Shinji paying the majority.
"Shinji-Kun, I just want to check before we leave, you have enough to pay your side right? I can always bring more" She said before she went to her room to change.
"Yeah, I was actually planning on paying the whole fee myself so it's fine," He said waving her off.
"Alright then, I'll be out in...Twenty Minutes tops? And then we can go" She said, winking at him before heading to her room for changing.
Shinji also went back to his room, rummaging through his wardrobe. Contrary to popular belief, his selection of clothes had some variation to them, albeit limitedly. He picked out a pair of Denim Jeans and a dark Red Polo shirt.
When he came out, Misato had yet to finish dressing so he sat on the couch. He counted how much money he would dedicate to tonight and reasoned that Thirty-Thousand Yen should be enough to last the night. Just as his previous train of thought ended, he heard a door open and close and when he turned around, his heart nearly stopped completely.
Misato naturally looked pretty but this, this was on a whole different level.
She was wearing a Velvet Dress that looked a lot like her work uniform, and reached just beyond her knees and accented and highlighted her gracious curves. Her Boots just added to the sexy vibe and she also had her signature cross.
"Watcha' looking at there Shinji-Kun?" She teased.
"I-You look really pretty tonight Misato-San" He stammered out, his face bright red.
"Aww, thanks Shinji, but we really should be going," She said and Shinji followed her out the door, making sure it was locked before joining her in the Elevator to the parking lot.
"So where exactly are we heading to?" She asked as they seated themselves in her car.
"It's a few blocks away...actually, here's the address," He said, handing her a slip of paper. She studied and before they knew it, they were on their way.
The only delay they experienced was some Traffic and Construction but aside from that, the ride was relatively uneventful. When they got there, the address Shinji had given led them to a small side restaurant that served all sorts of food.
"Reservation for Ikari," Shinji said when he walked up to the waiter at the front.
After flipping through a logbook, he asked, "A table for two?" And Shinji responded with a nod.
"Alright, your table is by the window," He said, pointing at where they would be eating. It was also at this moment Misato appeared after parking her car. Bidding the waiter their thanks, they headed over to the table where the Menus were prepared.
"This is really nice...How'd you find this place?" Misato asked, temporarily pausing skimming over her menu.
"Well, I was just walking around the area and I just stumbled upon this" He explained.
"You know, I wouldn't have minded you cook something at home?" She said.
"Heh, I know but I guess I wanted to treat to something...different" And she warmly smiled, appreciating the effort. The pair sat in silence for a few moments before they hailed a waiter to take their orders.
"So, I'm kinda excited to see what the food's going to look like, it seemed good on the menu at least," She said and Shinji nodded in agreement.
The two exchanged conversation and banter until the food arrived, which would have Shinji blushing from ear to ear and Misato chuckling wildly. Though they did calm down somewhat when their dinner arrived although Misato did start something that would occur regularly whenever they were to eat out.
"You know Shin-chan, as much as I like your food, these noodles have something different about them, Ya know?"
"Yeah, I wonder what did they use here...THAT'S HOT!" He suddenly shouted, he had ordered a bowl of Spicy Ramen but he didn't expect it to be hot enough that it would burn his tongue. Misato, who had been drinking her water, nearly spat it back out as she began to laugh, causing a few people to turn their heads.
"You should be careful of what you order" Misato chided, to which Shinji pouted at.
The next thing she bit into was their Barbeque and her face immediately soured, "Yuck, what did they put in the sauce of this?" She questioned, putting it under her scrutinizing glare. Shinji decided to have some fun as well and imitated "You should be careful of what your order" and to that, they had a good laugh.
"You should take notes, like of what you think they put in, or something like that, I'm not a culinary expert," She said, exasperated.
"That what I'm doing actually, by the way, what are going to do with the Barbeque? Since you don't like it"
"We can give to Pen-Pen, maybe he'll like it"
The pair would then go on to have the rest of their dinner, well at least the decent dishes. They thoroughly enjoyed their dinner and soon it was time for them to pay the bill.
"Oh hey look at that, only Twenty-Two thousand, how much do you have with you now Shinji?" Misato asked.
"I can pay for it completely, I have Thirty Thousand with me," He said, and Misato was temporarily taken aback.
"Where did you get that much money?" She asked, slightly incredulous, mostly confused.
"Well most of it from my savings, and I do get mail with money sometimes since I'm a pilot," He said, rubbing the back of his neck.
He get paid by other people out of thin air?! She thought, wondering how come that didn't happen to her.
"Uh Misato, you kinda zoned out there," He said, shaking her out of the trance she was in.
"Huh? Oh yeah, let me pay, at least some of it" She requested.
"But I can perfectly pay for all of it and still have change" He countered.
"Yes, but I have a job and earning money, I can't let you pay for that on good conscience Shinji" She reprimanded and Shinji sighed in defeat. Throwing out their initial deal, Misato paid with Ten Thousand and Shinji Fifteen, after getting their takeout they made their way to the parking lot and to, where Shinji thought, would be back home. He was incorrect.
Misato took a few turns and soon they had entered open grounds with trees dotting the landscape and rolling hills.
"Uhm, Misato-San, Where are we going?" He asked.
"You don't recognize the route? You'll just have to wait and see then" She teased and Shinji tried to remember where exactly, but the surrounding terrain just did not give enough detail.
Eventually, Misato had eased the car on the side and then beckoned Shinji to come out. When he did, he was instantly hit with one of his most present memories of Tokyo-3. They were atop the hill she had brought him to after the battle against the Third Angel.
"So, I wanted to show you my thanks and I thought about bringing you here again...especially since it's been some time" She explained.
"I see, thanks Misato," He said and Misato shook her head.
"Nah, thank you, Shinji, today wouldn't have been as fun as it was if not for you," She said and began to approach him. Before Shinji could make any retort, she kissed him.
She kissed him.
Shinji's mind just went blank then shut down completely. It was just on the cheek, it was short by in those few moments, he felt the affection she held for him. When she pulled back, his face was as hot as the Volcano he saved Asuka from, it was a miracle he was still breathing and hadn't passed out on the spot.
"You seemed to have enjoyed that Shinji-Kun" Misato teased, her face was as bright, if not brighter, than his, even under the Night sky.
"I-Uh-well...ye-yeah" He sputtered out.
"Heh, you want to stay here for a bit? We can go home if you want-" She was cut off by him, "I'd like to stay here for some time if it isn't too bad?" He answered.
"Sure…" She said her eyes darting off and then settling on a patch of grass, "We can sit over there" She pointed and they walked off. The pair got themselves comfortable, with Shinji ever so slowly setting his head on her shoulder, to which she wrapped an arm around him.
Time passed quickly while they sat there, admiring the city they were working so hard to preserve, as well as each other. The only thing that prompted them to head back was when they simultaneously yawned, earning a pair of giggles from them.
"We should head back home soon," Misato said, beginning to dust off herself.
"Yeah, we probably should," He said, especially since he felt sleep beginning to take hold of him.
The two went back to the car and after entering, Misato began driving back to the apartment. Thankfully, the traffic was light, and in minutes they were back.
"Do you want to take a bath first or-" Before he could finish Misato had pulled him onto the couch and enveloped him in her arms.
"We can take a shower in the morning, sleep is the priority" She declared, muffled into the pillow.
Considering his current position, Shinji decided to accept the situation, especially when struggling against her arms could annoy Misato.
"Night Misato"
"G'night Shinji…" And he could have sworn he even heard a Love you before sleep and warmth overtook his already tired senses.
The Next Morning
"HENTAI BAKA!"
WHACK
Thump
"Urgh, A-Asuka?" Shinji said, rubbing his eyes as they readjusted to the light, also rubbing the sore part Asuka had just recently smacked.
"I would like to know why you two were sleeping and no less, cuddling!" She shrieked, which warranted Misato to also wake from her slumber.
"Asuuukaaa, why'd you take Shin-chan?" She complained, one eye slightly open.
Even though he was in the middle of a possible warzone, Shinji didn't mind that detail, it was more of the fact that Misato wanted him back and, apparently, cuddling her.
